Imoogi is attempting a second attempt on capturing-taming-training an Alkara

That afternoon after my captured blue male Alkara escaped, I remade the cave-cage door so that hopefully it would be heavy enough to not be knocked over. The entire time, that Alkara kept hoping down and stealing my materials. Now that I had remade the door, it was time to go catch that bird! Looking around as I settled the door by the cave entrance, I spotted him. He was preening himself on a rock halfway up the wall. Spinning abruptly, I launched myself into the air straight at him. Sadly, I forgot how fast they were….. He darted away when I was a full body length out form him and escaped. That was the start of hours of work for me. I swear he thought we were playing tag, the cheeky bugger.

He was much faster than me, he had a sharper turning radius, and he could gain speed easier too. He would dart around me and zoom close to walls, before perching on a branch or rock outcrop to wait for me to catch up. I would chase him around and around the enclosure. This really really sucked. He could fly between trees and close to the wall, while I had to avoid them unless I wanted to destroy my nice new home decoration or hurt myself, neither of which was a good choice. After the first thirty minutes, I was pretty sure that the bird was making fun of me, but I was never one to give up easily. When I would land to let my wings rest and rethink my attack, he would land just out of reach and preen…… Go ahead little bird, I’ll get you eventually….Again I launch myself and again he avoids me. The sun began to settle on the horizon and my stomach growled loudly, startling the Alkara. This was a bad situation, I wanted to catch him alive and unharmed, but on an empty stomach I would eat him first.

My stomach waking up and the sun going down meant that our little game of tag would have to wait until tomorrow. I certainly wasn’t going to try and catch him at night; I’d end up breaking something.

I looked at him and growled “Don’t think this means you’ve won, I’ll try again tomorrow” and gently fly out to the ocean, diving under the surface to go find food that didn’t fly. It was a good thing I tended to eat seafood and not birds; I wouldn’t have to change my diet by that much. As I dove under the waves, I might have spotted him soaring on an updraft, but that might have been my imagination. Hopefully the feathery fiend would hang around tomorrow so that I could try and catch him again. Maybe I’ll be sneaky about it and wake up before first light, go hunting and come back and grab him while he was still asleep. That might work better than trying to outfly him in an enclosed area.
