After a good nights sleep in my new secret lair, I wake up and decide to set out and tame the first creature to help me guard my lair. I figure that I should first try capturing, alive and unharmed, something that I could normally defeat just to be safe because I’ve never had to tame anything before. I’ve always simply killed and eaten the smaller creatures. I will attempt to capture an Alkara first, I saw signs of them yesterday on the top of the rockwall. This will be exciting. Looking around my hidden island, I decide to make one of the smaller caves into a cage to hold an Alkara. When cleaning it out of all the random debris, I discover that the floor is a rich type of soil, and that the cave maybe too small to be comfortable for me, but it is set into the shallowest part of the enclosing rock wall, making the cave is only 10ft deep and filled with berry bushes and a small puddle from rainwater falling through cracks in the outer wall and ceiling. The puddle tastes clean and attracts insects so hopefully an Alkara will have enough food. This looks like a perfect place to hold a bird while I attempt to train it.

The next day, I finish the work on the cage “door” a weave of wood and stone that should be strong enough. I stretch my wings and then go back into the cave to make sure it is all set. I am about to head back out when movement outside my island catches my eye. Its an Alkara, a pretty blue one flying along toward my island! its the perfect opportunity!

I quickly and quietly leave the cave and use strong jumps to quickly scale the walls. I head to the edge of the wall and settle down in the thick undergrowth, waiting for the Alkara to fly up to me. Soon I spot it as it circles upward, catching a draft from the warming ocean surface. Right as it reaches the top of the wall and starts to land, I launch myself out of the growth and pounce on it. Success! I have captured an Alkara! its a pretty blue on too. Now all I have to do is restrain myself from eating it and get it into the cave. I attempt to gently grip it in my mouth and hold its wings with my front claws as I fly back to the small cave. It goes completely still and I can feel its hamming pulse against my tongue. Lucky bird, I’m not going to eat you today. I put it into the cave and raise the cage door.

Happy to have found an Alkara so quickly, I sit and watch it inside of its cave-cage. I could watch him all day except that I really need to eat, my stomach is rumbling. Opps, I should go get something to eat and then come back with some food for the Alkara. I need to get it to think of me as a food source not a threat. So I leave my newly captured Alkara in its temporary home and head out to find some food for breakfast. That morning I had swim farther than normal to find food so it took longer than I wanted to. I surfaced after returning home and got out of the water shaking myself as I turned and looked at cave…..where the gate had been pushed down. Drat, I knew taming creatures wasn’t going to be easy. I sigh and wander over to the now empty cave. Looking inside, I see that certain of the plants have been eaten. At least I know some more about what it eats. I return to the gate and am thinking about how to properly keep it in place when I hear the sound of feathers. Looking over, there is the blue Alkara. I twitch my tail and it flies to a perch further up the wall...but it doesn’t leave… I sigh and go back to fixing the gate. There is no point in catching the thing if I can’t keep it caged. But it had stayed around… maybe it was curious. If I can get it to stay until tomorrow, maybe I could try and catch him again? I shall do my best to finish the new gate before night hits! Now how to do so…. Well the gate was pushed down, not destroyed. So it must be heavier at the bottom, or be tied into place. I can do that.
