Not soon after attempting that dreaded machine, Maple had been found by some sort of higher up.. or their secretary, she wasn't exactly sure and wasn't one to ask positions really as if to seem rude - what if she insulted them? - and was given another task. They didn't even seem to care that she might have been covered by some sort of substances that belonged int one of the mini kitchens. No, didn't even give her some time to run to the restroom and clean up just a little bit.
The witch was handed a large stack of reports and given some vague directions of where to head, sort of told which portals to take and a sort of sequence was rattled off to her. Some of it was remembered and when she actually asked for a refresher, the one in charge had vanished. Literally, in a puff of smoke. Gone. And she was alone again.
Maple made her way towards her destination.
And of course got lost.

The desert was indeed a vast and huge place. A terrible destination for someone who was timid like Maple and so lacking in self belief. How many wrong turns could she make? How many portals would it take for her to give up on this task she had been given and then just hole up in a closet somewhere? There were so many chances to mess up, so many mistakes that could be taken, so many -
Oh wait a minute. Maple glanced at the name upon the door that she had been transported to on a whim, on a random chance really (having followed the instructions as best as she could remember, they had been so confusing). But the name she was looking at looked just like the one written upon the sticky note on the documents in her hands.
For a minute there, the witch thought it too good to be true, to easy that she had actually managed to find where she was supposed to go without getting that horribly lost. She had only managed mildly lost. Still though, she knocked on the door and waited until she heard a muffled 'come in' from the other side before she opened it and stepped inside.
The demon there didn't even look up from the paper work he was going through, pages upon pages on his desk. "More?" He asked, still not addressing her.
"Y-yes..." She squeaked out and hurried over to the side, holding the paper clipped pages out towards him. He didn't take them.
"Any idea what they are?"
Maple pulled them back and dared to look at the contents, she hadn't earlier given her lowly position. It didn't seem.. right. But they didn't seem like it would get her in trouble for looking over, she realized as she skimmed the header. "J-just.. some ar-rticles t-to b-be proofr-read..." She stammered.
He sighed, then waved his hand towards one of the many piles already on his desk, "alright, just put them over there and you can go."
The witch squeaked out a 'yes' as she hurriedly placed the copies on the shortest pile she could find on the large wooden desk. With a small farewell, she left the demon at his desk and closed the door.. and hurried off.
