Personality:
Desdemona has always been a hard-working individual. As a child, she would try to go above-and-beyond what people expected of her, but her efforts never really got her very far, as she was always overlooked in favor of her brother. The young woman disdains any sort of favoritism or preferential treatment that she received, and as a result, does not expect nor desire any such thing now that she is fully grown. She expects to be treated just as anyone else does, and it really bothers her to see others getting ahead due to their connections or what have you. Despite being hardworking, Des has a tendency to throw herself into things a little too much at times. This leads her to work herself to the point of exhaustion or getting sick, much to her disdain. She hates it when she does this, but every time she says it won't happen again, it usually does. Old habits die hard, after all.
Desdemona is a bit on the fence when it comes to rules or authority figures. She doesn't mind being told to do something, but don't expect her to take things too well if she is babied or constantly reminded of what needs doing. Telling her once is enough, and she is good to go with whatever the task is. If people are insistent anymore than that, chances are you're going to get a sarcastic, irritated response in return. She is good at following the directions on her own time and in her own way, left to her own devices. The last thing that she wants or needs is someone constantly hovering over her shoulder.
The young woman comes from a family where people were good at talking and getting their way with things. This, however, didn't seem to be inherited by Des when she was born. She is a child of few words, but if she has the urge to talk, she will not hesitate to speak her mind openly and regardless of how harsh it might sound. She is not in favor of sugar-coating things, even if it means hurting people's feelings, as she feels it's better to be honest than to lie. She expects people would do the exact same for her. It's better, in her mind, to be honest than to be fake. Leave that sort of attitude for the politicians and law-makers: she is a soldier, first and foremost, and that is the last thing that she feels the military needs.
In terms of her hobbies, Desdemona is fond both of blacksmithing and in baking -- two things that she picked up upon after her parents left her with extended family. She enjoys things that allow her to work with her hands and actually make things, rather than writing or performing or anything of that sort. These are things that she tries her best to do in her spare time, and they come in handy. Her background in blacksmithing is useful for repairs on any of her gear, and baking is useful in lifting the spirits of those around her. Who doesn't love a treat now and then, after all?

History Desdemona was born into a wealthy, noble family within the safe-haven of Wall Sina. Her father, Calix, is an influential baron who is quite popular in the territory in which their family lives. Her mother, Briseis, is a well-educated and no-nonsense woman who has high hopes not just for herself and her husband, but for her two children as well. Desdemona is the younger of the two Nevrakis kids, and her older brother is named Euclid. From the time they were born, everyone had high hopes for Euclid -- he was to follow in the footsteps of his father and become a baron just like Calix was when the time came. Since the family had such high hopes for Euclid, the same high expectations were thrust upon Desdemona from the time she was a small child.
Due to being born into a life of privilege, Desdemona was offered basically every opportunity a child could have. She and her brother had a beautiful home, all the toys that they could ever want, and the best education that their parent's money could buy. While Euclid flourished under this sort of environment, his sister did not seem to follow suit. Quite the contrary, in fact: she resented being pampered and having things simply given to her without having to earn it. Nothing was worthwhile, nor was she motivated to exceed in much of anything. This led to much tension between the young girl in her parents: not only would she frequently disobey her tutors and nannies, but she ran away at least a handful of times during her youth as well.
Fed up with their daughter's disobedient and ungrateful attitude, both Calix and Briseis finally were at their wits end. They sent a then fifteen-year-old Desdemona to live with her extended family in the middle-class area of the Utopia District within Wall Rose. It was there that Desdemona was taken in by her "Uncle" (who, in actuality, was a second or third cousin) Nikkos. Nikkos was a blacksmith by trade and his wife, Tanith, was a baker. The couple wasted no time with the unruly teenager, and they ended up putting her straight to work learning both crafts. Little did they know that this sort of thing was exactly what Desdemona yearned for, and thus she excelled.
As she grew older, and although she loved doing both baking and blacksmithing with her new family members, Desdemona decided that she wanted to make a name for herself. Her hobbies were fun and enjoyable, sure, but they weren't things that she wanted to do with her life, specifically. They were things that she did for fun or to relieve stress. Ultimately, she wanted to do more than just that. She wanted to help people, and the military was the best way to do that. It was the desire to make it out on her own was what led her to join the military, in hopes of joining the ranks of the Survey Corps or the Garrison. She has since joined up as a trainee. She is determined to help others in need, be it in defending or maintaining the wall, or in combating the Titans as much as possible.

Family Relationships Calix Nevrakis - Father; Baron; 45 (Alive)
Outgoing and eloquent, Calix is quite popular in the area which he calls his home. This is rather surprising, given that the lower classes generally are wary of the nobles, at best. The Baron does his best to keep up appearances and to make sure those who live within his jurisdiction are well taken care of. To the public, he appears to be a loving family man, and he makes quite an effort to show these relationships outwardly to keep up appearances. In truth, he is rather conservative in his beliefs, especially when it comes to family. He feels his wife should stay at home and take care of the house and children, that his son should follow in his footsteps, and that Desdemona should get married and start a family. These views conflict with Desdemona's own desires, which ultimately led to a strain in the relationship between father and daughter. Calix was, frankly, upset when she decided to join the army, believing someone of her standing should not trifle with such things. Since she joined up, however, he hopes to convince her to join the Military Police, as it is the most prestigious of the military corps.
Briseis Nevrakis - Mother; Baroness; 45 (Alive)
Briseis is a very intelligent and well-educated woman, and she seems to fit right in to her position as Baroness. She is a no-nonsense woman who took a rather strict approach to raising her children when they were growing up. Much to her dismay, however, it didn't seem to work with Desdemona. When her daughter was young, she seemed to rebel at every opportunity, even going so far as to run away from home at times. This left Briseis not only worried for her little girl's safety, but exhausted when she would finally be returned home. Over time, the Baroness seemed to have little patience for Des' antics, and when Desdemona was fifteen she grew tired of them entirely. She sent her daughter to live with extended family as a result. Briseis and Desdemona's relationship is rocky, just as it is with the girl and her father. Although she would never admit to it openly, the Baroness much prefers her son, Euclid, often showing him favor and preferential treatment. She doesn't expect much of her daughter anymore, but she has the highest hopes for her son.
Euclid Nevrakis - Brother; Aspiring Politician; 21 (Alive)
Euclid gets his extroverted demeanor from his father, along with his popularity, it would seem. The young man is well-liked among his peers and quite popular among the ladies, too. From his mother, he gets his penchant for education and his intelligence. An aspiring politician, Euclid studies politics quite rigorously, along with a other subjects he takes particular interest in, such as art and music. In terms of his personality, Desdemona's brother is a bit entitled and rather pompous. He thinks very highly of himself, and his attitude is always something that clashed with Des. The two never really got along, and he would often blame her in their youth for things that he did, on top of things she already got in trouble for. He was quite relieved and happy when Desdemona went to live with other family members, mainly so he wouldn't have to see her or try to be civil toward her. The feeling, it would seem, was mutual on her part as well.
Nikkos Matraxia - "Uncle"; Blacksmith; 45 (Alive)
Although Desdemona calls Nikkos her uncle, he is actually her second or third cousin. When she moved in with his family, they figured it'd be easier for him to just call him that. Nikkos is a blacksmith by trade, an honest and hardworking man. He can be a bit gruff at times, which probably stems from his brutal honesty. He isn't afraid to tell it like it is. Having said that, he seems to have a warm sense of humor and loves being silly from time to time. He is caring when it comes to Desdemona, as he wanted to give her some direction in her life where she could do things on her own. Basically, the two of them have the father-daughter relationship that the soldier seems to lack with her biological father. Nikkos was proud when he heard the news that she signed up to join the military, though he is a bit wary, too. He knows the dangers that the soldiers face, and he does not want to see Desdemona get hurt or killed in action.
