Out for a walk with Direk in northern Sauti reminded him of Zena, and he was impatient to be home. It was summer, but there was just barely enough snow on the peaks to give him some sense, some scent, of home.
He couldn't - or almost couldn't - wait to show Iroia around Secer. He had a sense that she would like the Raptrix - she was the kind of girl that would like raptri.
He'd have to get his battle partner there first, though, and that meant making sure that the treacherous pass was clear, as in, slightly less than treacherous this time. Last he'd left, it had been clogged with snow - not much he could do about that, nor did he care to. Winter was a harsh force, and closed off many things.
He'd left Zena through the usual, better kept passes, but he didn't really want to see the city. He'd rather be home in the wild lands than in that stupid forest of stone and people, and he bet that Iroia would prefer it too.
Not that he really understood her as more than a travelling companion who was like him in all the best ways. He had no idea. He was just guessing.
He was on a ledge, trying to get a look at the pass, when his feet brushed something.
He looked down to see a well-camouflaged oblong orb roll gently until it hit the lip of a woven nest. Slowly, he looked up as the shrieking began.
Oh, just frosting wonderful. he thought unhappily,
Sailscales.(269/1000)

Ogbonna had been out training on his own upon the slopes that morning and had worked up quite a sweat. The young guard paused, for a moment, to wash his face and arms in order to cool off, and ended up dunking his whole head into the pool. The rush of cold water was just the sort of relief he needed before he set off for the cliffs closer to his home. Training was hard work, espescially during the summer, but he knew he needed to do it. Bulking up like this would only do him good in the long run, a fact that kept going through much of the harder exercises.
"What was that?" He gasped, his head whipping towards the sound of the shrieking. Were those Sailscales? He quickly squeezed the remainder of the water out of his hair, refastened his gauntlets, and sprinted off. Had someone disturbed a nest? Was someone trying to steal eggs? Either way, he had to make sure there wasn't anything dangerous going on, that was his job!
"Hey! Are you alright?" He called to Ruelash as he skidded onto the scene. Sure enough, an egg had been disturbed from the nest, causing the resident Sailscales to become upset and scream. He knew all too well how protective these things could be, and when four of them spun around to hiss at him, he braced himself. "Looks like they're really mad! Don't let them bite you if you can help it! They've got really sharp teeth!"(254/1000)

Ruelash had very little warning other than the loud flapping of wings and the whooshing of wind before tiny, shart claws tangled themselves in his hair. Ruelash flailed out at them, growling angrily, slapping away the claws as he danced around on the ledge. "Git... outta... my... hair!" he snarled, shoving at them. They flew away, but he knew he had only fended off the first wave of their attacks. He could see them circling above him, shrieking to each other. The little beasts would be back soon to try to get their pint of blood. Or chase him off - whatever.
He had no intention of letting them do so. He hated the little beasts. If they wanted his blood?
He'd have their heads, and sell their bodies for good coin so he could buy Direk something nice.
Speaking of... he heard the clopping of hooves, and saw her walking away. He glowered at his spoiled aldabuck, but he really couldn't blame her. She hated the damn things as much as he did. She'd be back, and they could enjoy the aftermath together.
But she was not getting a treat for this abandonment.
He glared back up, seeing that the circles the sailscales made in the sky were tightening. They'd be back again soon. He drew his blades, his face grim and intense as they dove at him.
It was like being surrounded by a sandstorm, except it was shrieking and full of little sharp teeth and claws and wings. He felt their little teeth tear into him, and was buffeted by their wings and stung by their tail as he was forced to move by the sheer momentum of their attack. He lashed out, feeling his blade slice flesh and a warm spray of blood as the storm receeded back to the sky to circle and plan - he swore the little beasts could plan - a new angle of attack.
He looked down to see a twitching sailscale body bleeding out on the stone. Good. One less of those horrible creatures in the world. Not that there weren't a whole swarm more up above...
He also noticed just how close to the ledge he was - one step more, and he'd be dead...
A voice. Ruelash looked up from his contemplation of just how far he'd fall and regarded the young man who skidded energetically onto the ledge. "I'm fine!" he called back For now
He looked down at himself and at the scratches and bites that now marked his skin with the bright red of his own blood, and tore into his clothes (he'd need to repair them, wonderful... just wonderful) before looking back at the newcomer.
"Yeah." he said, "I notieced."
He grimaced and looked up as the Sailsacales' shrieked again, "I think they're comin' in for another go! He warned, bracing himself for another whirlwind attack...

Ogbonna watched Ruelash flail and struggle with the Sailscales he was fighting, his attention fully diverged from the Sailscales that were approaching him. Somewhere, in the back of his mind, he recognized Ruelash... Wasn't he at that tournament a few months ago? He blinked idly and shrugged, before getting a n** to the ankle.
"Hey! I'm not food!" He bellowed, slamming his fists after the Sailscale that had bitten him. "Go nibble on someone your own size!"
He lunged forward to pin it down and struck it furiously, before hopping upwards to avoid the attacks from the other Sailscales. He landed upon a nearby rock and cocked his head towards Ruelash as he warned him of another attack.
"You have a plan, dude?" He asked, with all sincerity in his voice. "Or are we punching with no plan at all? Either is cool with me! I like punching things for no reas-YOW!"
A Sailscale had leaped up and bit him on the elbow as he was shouting, causing him to wobble a little and growl. Sailscales with pretty, and pretty annoying! He leaped from the rock and flailed his arms about in retaliation.
"Hold still, you stupid thing!" He cried.

Plan? Ruelash had no plan. He just hit things, and that was what he continued to do. First, though, he dived and rolled away from the edge of the ledge, staving off painful falling death for another day.
He rushed towards the boy, lashing downward with his sword as the sailscale spiraled away, screeching. "Git back here!" he snarled, as it flew away to regroup with its flock. He, briefly, wondered if the boy was allright and was contemplating - in his usual not - really - very - contemplative - at - all way, whether to ask, when his thought was arrested by the sailscale's reforming and returning.
Wait... he thought, as the whole flock dived at him, I take that back... They could stay where they were.
Soon, though, they were at his face, clawing at him, their needle claws drawing blood from his weathered, blue, grimacing face. "Gnuh!" he grunted, swiping at them with an open palm as one of them slashed the top of it, causing one of his swords falling to the ground. The other sword, gripped tighter, slashed through the air between the beating wings and, hissing with movement, through a wing itself.
The sailscale crashed to the ground and struggled to right itself on only one wing. Ruelash stabbed down, putting it out of its misery with a mild shriek and the refreshing feel of sharp blade going through annoying flesh.
He retrieved his other sword, gripping it tightly, almost reassuringly. "I don' think they've given up yet..." he grunted, watching them, "So I guess ye just punch 'em then."(1018/1000, 2/3killed)

Ogbonna nodded to Ruelash. Punching was what he was made to do, it was innate, and coursing through his blood. He clenched his fists repeatedly as the next swarm moved in and flung himself forward, flailing his fists wildly as he moved. He missed every tenth swing, mostly because he kept looking to see where Ruelash was standing just to ensure he wasn't going to accidentally clock the other man in the face while he attacked, and ended up resembling a disgruntled Kinfa being swathed by hunters. It was a fairly amusing display to anyone outside of the pair who could've seen it, even if they were far from any sort of gathering space, and clearly not as effective as Ogbonna would've liked it to be.
"This is the most difficult thing I have ever done!" He exclaimed, growling as he missed another blow. "Aside from that tournament thing, that was hard too. I almost won!"
Another sailscale geared itself up for an attack as Oggie chattered on and lunged forward, sinking it's jaws into his leg. The guard shrieked from the pain and smashed his hand into it's jaw, causing it to fly backwards and lay flat in shock. However, before it could dream of ever getting back up onto it's feet again, Ogbonna came swooping in with a trial of punches, leaving it motionless, and, ultimately, dead. He snarled down towards it and spat, before flipping his head backwards to face the remaining onslaught. Augh! There were so many of these stupid things left to punch and fight off! He would never be home in time for supper at this rate! He grit his teeth and heaved a heavy sigh.
"Let's corner them against a rock and beat them up!" He announced, racing towards the swarm. "I don't want to miss dinner! We're having Mammu and I can't be late! My uncle always steals the best bits for himself!"

Ruelash, communicative as ever, grunted at the boy, swords ready - and firmly gripped - for the next wave. "Nice... hits." he acknowledged, appreciative of the violence behind bludgeoning a small annoying thing to death. In fact, as he glanced at the broken body of the sailscale, he thought it looked kind of fun.
Maybe later, he thought, when he had one of the little monsters bound and helpless or something - not flying and scratching and horrible. He watched as the sailscales, dark against the Sautian haze, began to come around, shrieking, for another go.
"And y'know," he said, as an almost grudging afterthought, "I almost won that tournament too." only to get beaten by a Shifter with a shield.
The sailscales came for them like the wings of judgement, and he sliced into them with a neat double slash, feeling the familiar and fond sensation of rending flesh and the sounds of dismayed screams.
The hoarde flew away frantically, screeching, many of them injured by his attack- they were too decimated and hurt to continue fighting. It wasn't worth it - their colony needed to survive.
He smirked, looking down at the one that twitched, freshly dying, on the stone.
Smart beasts.
"And it weren't that hard." he added, shaking the blood off his swords and sheathing them.(1238/1000, 3/3killed)

Admittedly, Ogbonna was a little disappointed that the sailscales had decided to retreat. A part of him wanted to continue thrashing about like a lunatic and smashing their wings off, but, alas, it was not meant to be. Maybe he could come out and disrupt a nest of his own tomorrow and have another rousing joust against the sailscale horde? Mm, no, that seemed a little stupid, even for him. Maybe he could ask his father or Rastian to spar with him instead? Or Aaran, he had mumbled about wanting to practice... The guard nodded to himself and smiled, before turning his attention to Ruelash.
"Oh? It thought you looked familiar!" He exclaimed, bounding towards the other man. "How far did you get? I got beat by a guy with a trident, but we fought all the way up until we couldn't stand, so, it was a nice battle. I think he was named Rayolun"
He watched Ruelash as he shook the blood off of his swords and glanced to his fists. Mm, his gauntlets would need a good cleaning and a polish when he got home if he wanted to use them again tomorrow. He pursed his lips and made a popping sound.
"Soooo, I'm Ogbonna." He said. He removed one of his gauntlets and extended his hand out to shake. "You know how to deal with these silly sailscales pretty well, have you been here before? I've never seen you around."

”Beat up a bunch of Alkidike. Lost in th' Semifinal.” he grunted, ”Next time...” Chi's frigid breath, he hoped there was a next time, ”I'll win.”He stared at the boy as if he had three heads then, grudgingly relenting, he started gathering up the Sailscale corpses – good eating, definitely. ”Ruelash.” he muttered, as if giving his name was an imposition – and it sort of was: He rarely gave his name to random people he met. ”An' I'm just passin' through on the way home.”And he was glad he was – then he could show Iroia the Raptri, and she could learn how to survive in the tundra, and then they could have fun sparring and hunting down people. Chi, Ruelash hated other people. Then again, the boy wasn't too bad – he had, indeed, smashed a Sailscale to death. Ruelash offered him one of the carcasses. ”Here.” he said, slightly embarrassed, as if the act of gratitude and generousity was alien and disgusting to him, ”To go with that mammu.”
