It was a hot and rainy day in K9 today with the sound of thunder bellowing through the city. It was of little worry to the humans who could easily shelter themselves in the buildings and stay warm with food easily accessible to the them, but it was hard out their for a cat.

The sound of barking could be heard in the alleyways of the city moving from the west side to the east near the bay side. There were groups of dogs all following the same thing, a cat. Why? Well it could be the stereotypical reason that dogs love to chase cats, but the other reason could be the fact that the cat had stolen a whole quarter ounce of steak that the butcher had gave the pack because of his love for dogs.

"Tabby you outdid yourself today!" She said thinking about how smooth she was by distracting the big dogs from the steak by turning on an old thrown away radio she found a few inches away from there hideout. They left it all alone for just a few seconds, which was enough time for her to sneak in and run off with it, the bad news is her getaway failed as she slipped off a trash bin and made a big scene. Hence why the dogs were chasing her. It was time to get them off her trail though.

She made a great leap up to one one of the escape ladders leading up to a vacant apartment building with the steak in her mouth. She then jumped from rooftop to rooftop towards the docks a few blocks away. "Piece of cake." She muffled as she was pretty much smooth sailing to her home.

At the docks, there was an old abandoned freight container that she had been recently housing in. The best safe spot for her now. "Home sweet home. . ." Tabby said as her spotted body slid through the doors of the freight's doors out of the storm. She perked her ears up as she listened for any dogs, but of great relief, none were around. "Stupid dogs, probably still on their way downtown by now. " She said in a stuck-up way as she dropped the steak on the floor, ready to dig in. "Now let's eat our reward, thanks for the meals boys." She said with a chuckle. .

Light leaked dimly from the light post overhead onto the wet, foggy cement. It had been a very long day for Roxy having to put up with her packs constant complaining and whining. The other four were complaint about the most ridiculous things like 'who took the biggest bite' and how 'they hated the smell of rain'. It was so trivial Roxy couldn't take it anymore. Wheeling herself she let out a great bark, "Could you all just shut up! Don't cha hear yourselves? You sound like a bunch squawking old ladies. We're a family and we will share equitably. Each of us takes a portion that reflects our body size. It wouldn't be very fair if Rosco, who is a Great Dane got the portion of Wheeze, a Chihuahua now would it? So shut your bickering and I don't want to hear anything else about it!" The pack grew quiet after a few mumbles of 'sorry Roxy' were said. They were stood in the back alley of a butcher shop awaiting their regular meal from the shop owner who gave them steak. Steak! And they didn't have to wait too long either. He came right out, pet each on the head and threw them the steak before heading back inside.

The group had begun to celebrate their long awaited meal when a sound distracted them, What on earth is that? Roxy thought as her and her pack crouched and began to creep near it, her muscles slightly bulging and rippling from being pulled taut and ready to strike. Just as they near the sound, a loud clang came from behind and she saw it. A freaking cat with their steak. Number one rule of the street: never trust a cat. Ever.

Teeth bared the dogs chased the cat. They were all right on its tail until it made that jump to the roof. While the others stood barking and trying to claw their way up, Roxy went around. She wove in and out of sidewalk traffic, not missing a beat as she kept eyes on the cat. That steak was hers and she was gonna have it with or without a side of flayed cat. The pit-bull watched as the Tabby slinked into a metal bin, Bad move kitten, there's only one way in and out of there, she thought as she stalked closer. Soon she was at the entrance and moved herself fully inside. "Here kitty, kitty, kitty," she husked out. She licked her jowls once, twice, three times before speaking, "I think you have something that belongs to me."

Tabby was about to sink her teeth into her prized steak, but instead her heart began to when she heard somebody else was in the freight with her.Who in there right minds would be able to keep up with her from the rooftops and the rain covering up her scent? "Who's there?!" She yowled as the fur on her back stood up in both fear and annoyance. She wasn't the fighting type when it came to being confronted, but she hadn't thought about if somebody had found her.

She could see a shadowy silhouette from the other end of the freight, causing her to wake. "Wh-who are you? You one of those boys from that chase back there?" She had a thick Brooklyn damsel accent that she had picked up from her owner that started to show up. "I'll give you props for keeping up with me after that hunt. I was sure I lost you bunch. But I guess you stand out from the rest, if you could follow me after I disappeared on the rooftops." She couldn't hide the fact that she was scared out of her mind right now. She was forced back against the wall of the freight. That voice was so intimidating and demanding by the sounds of it and all she had to offer was a steak.

She shifted into her human form as she handed out the steak as the character got closer. "L-l-listen buddy! I won this fair and square. Me against the whole bunch of ya." She tried using that as an excuse. But by how big the dog looked she was willing to give it up. "F-f-fine eat it will ya! I don't want it anymore! Just please don't kill me!" She begged as her ears flattened on top of her blond haired head while her tail frizzed out. Tears were beginning to streak down her pale cheek from her big blue eyes.

Roxy just eyed the girl slowly as she stalked forward. The cat looked fairly young, younger than herself and seemed too sweet or innocent to be a stray. She didn't have the set in down-and-dirty look. Her face was smooth and her hair, though a bit messy, still seemed to shine and seem silky. Zoning back in on what the cat was saying Rox pouted a bit. Man did this kitten have a mouth on her. Her accent was uptown Brooklyn area which was pretty adorable.

As she sat right in front of the now terrified cat, Roxy just stared and let her finish her tangent before she changed into her human form crouched before her, almost nose to nose as she sniffed her, took the steak and sat back making sure to put herself between the cat and the exit. "My name is Roxy and yeah, those are my boys. My boys and myself that you took advantage of you clever kitty," she sighed out, her voice smooth but strong and made sure to put emphasis on the word kitty before sighing inwardly. She had already scared the piss out of this girl so she'll cut her a break this once. She hadn't meant to make the girl cry and now she felt like trash. How could anyone be mean to a girl when she's crying and begging for her life. "Hey, hey, hey! I'm not gonna kill ya. Just calm down. I ain't a murderer. I just want to ask you something." Roxy leaned her elbow on her knee as her tail laid relaxed behind her and her ears were alert, "What the hell are you doin in a place like this taking on dogs? You are obviously a lappie, someone's pampered little angel. You should go home before ya get hurt." Roxy wasn't a monster; she cared for the meek, those who were small and couldn't help themselves but tried anyway. This cat didn't belong her world and she needed to get her out before something bad happened to her.

Tabitha did a double-check as she heard Roxy point out that she wasn't going to kill her and that she was a female at that. She felt her whole body get goosebumps in relief before falling to her knees to the floor of the freight. She held her chest as her heart was still beating at about a thousand beats a minute before it calmed down. "Oh boy. . .don't give me a heart attack like that. . .I thought I was a goner there. " She said as she looked the girl up and down as she stood in front of her. She was a little confused right now as to why this girl was being friendly to her, but she definitely had to deal with it with the predicament she was in.

She ruffled her hair as she tried to compose herself again and look good like the classy girl she was. She perked her ears at the sound of Roxy's question of why she was there. "Hmph. . .you're definitely smarter than those boys of your's." She huffed as she looked up at the white hair vixen, "I ain't got no home no more. Got burned down some time back ago. Haven't seen my lady since." She said thinking about her owner, Adrianna. The middle-aged dame, was probably gone for good now and the thought of it made her sniffle some. "So now I got to strive to get some food from those mutts. Sorry." She apologized forgetting she was talking to a dog. "You're not like those other boys. You're definitely different. I got barked at just for walking on the other side of the street! What? Is all you dogs ever thinkin' about is chasing me down? " She said letting out a little steam.

Against her own will her body released a sort of snort laugh at the girl. She was ridiculous in a funny kind of way. Roxy found this was a good time to tease the poor kitten, "I thought about eating you, but you're way too skinny," the dog released a low chuckle. She hadn't actually laughed in a while. It was surprising to say the least that a pampered kitten made her laugh. Roxy held back the urge to growl, "Hey, they may not be the brightest but they got heart, a lot of it. And they're family." her voice was strong as she defended her brothers. They were all she had. She didn't know where she would be without them. Then she look at the girl in front of her, I'd be alone, just like her.... Roxy felt a twinge of pity for the girl. She was young, way too young to be out here like she was. She didn't belong. She wasn't even accustomed to the rules of the street yet. "None taken. Some of us are mutts, Can't exactly pick your parents." The young pit-bull raised her brow in silent question, "I'm no different. I just learned the law of the land a bit faster." The dog grinned at hearing her small rant, "You really are brand new on the block. You ever notice how most stray cats stay to counter tops, ledges and fire escapes? Its cus we rule the roads and alleyways cus we're faster and stronger. We can't climb as well so cats stay high. You ain't supposed to be on the sidewalk sweetheart. As for the reason we chase you... cats are sneaky and deceptive. You guys constantly take kindness for weakness and exploit it. You take all you want without so much as a thank you. Rule number one of the street, NEVER trust a cat."Roxy heard her stomach growl then remembered the steak in her hand. She looked at it, at the cat, then the small makeshift home in the crate. 'You're really hungry aren't you? When was the last time you've eaten?" she asked scrutinizing the girls thin frame.

"Bruno never said nothing about no rules. The big lug. . ." She thought quietly as she took in Roxxy's words of wisdom for her to take. Bruno, there was a dog she missed. So nice and asking her how her day was with that tongue of his all out over the place. Gone like that as well to leave Tabby out in the big world. That big coat of fur he had that he'd let her lay all over when she was tired. Roxxy was acting just like the brute the way she was being so kind to her. And while Bruno was handsome, Roxxy had a gorgeous coat for being a dog of the streets .She was even more gorgeous in her human form, she'd never seen Bruno's due to them being in the presence of human's.

She then smirked at Roxxy's last question. "Pfff! Eaten!?"Tabby retorted in amusement, "I can't even remember the last time I had an actual meal. I'm kind of surprised myself I've lived for this long. I live this close to water and you'd think the humans would reel in some Salmon or something. Nope. . .nothing!" She ranted not afraid to complain about how hungry she was. Her stomach growled right after Roxxy's rung a tone. She looked at the steak and then back at Roxxy. "Look; take back that steak to those hounds of your's. More of you guys then there are of me. I can go find some other big ol' piece of meat on the street. " She lied as she practically had disappointment written all over her face. After she tried so hard to get that steak, she hadn't eaten in days and her stomach was telling her that. For all she could know, it might be another night of tossing and turning in discomfort while she tried to sleep through the night.

Roxy found herself, once against her will sympathizing with the girl. What had gotten into her? She didn't sympathize with cats! She was supposed to be a ferocious beast that struck fear into the heart of every feline that dared looked upon her. Yet, here she was, looking at this kitten and saw herself in those sad eyes. She remembered what it was like to be weak and hungry and so very tired. She remembered being on the brink of death. She would've died if it wasn't for Clyde. He was the father she never had. He showed her the ropes right up until he was struck down in his prime. She realized the girl in front of her didn't have someone like that either. Roxy decided in her heart she would do that for this cat. Why? Hell if she knew, she just knew she couldn't let her die. Everyone deserved a chance at life. Not only that buy she was drawn to her, like she needed to protect her. But what would her gang say? Roxy was breaking rule number one; she was trusting a cat. She could end up a laughing stock. Was she even ready to lose her street cred? She'll just cross that road when she got there.

The pit-bull smiled at the girl's spunk. She sure can talk big but does she really have the bite to back it up? Rox thought while she looked at the steak in her hand. Taking a large sigh, mouth drooling slightly she used her claws she ripped a chunk off, her own portion, saving the rest for her pack, and handed the smaller piece to the tabby cat then ruffled her orange hair playfully, slightly scratching her ears, "Eat up alright. You're gonna need your strength," she said as she watched her, "And I could teach you how to get more." she spoke smirking at her. "Of course all goods obtained is shared among the pack. You're very dangerous to have around... but you're lucky I like danger. Wanna join my pack... uhhh... what's your name?"

Tabby nearly skipped a beat at Roxy's paw going through her orange hair and almost backed away from it. She thought it might skip again when Rox gave her a piece of the steak. That sensation though of someone running there hands over her was phenomenal. She hadn't felt that in awhile and it almost caused her to blush in embarrassment at how she fell head over heels for affection like that. So much that she almost ignored the steak Roxy had handed her. This dog was definitely something else and she knew it by the way she could make Tabby purr.

When she heard her offer she looked up in surprise as she finished up her piece of the steak. "R-really?!" She said as she held onto Roxy's hand in joy of her offer. Tabby looked so happy to hear that offer come from Roxy."Rox! You'd make me the happiest gal alive!" She said with glee in her eyes. She was happy, not to have food, but to hear somebody actually wanted her. She wasn't getting noticed at all out here in the streets and to hear Roxy wanted her was almost like bells ringing in her ear.

"Wait!" She exclaimed as she kind of back down and fiddled with her fingers. "There ain't no way in hell your boys are just going to let me walk in to your pack with you. Won't. . .you know. . .loose some rep for walking around with a prissy dame like me? Didn't you just say the number one rule of the street was. . .to never trust a cat?" She said as she realized she was getting her hopes up for nothing. She wanted to see if Roxy was just joking with her to get her into some kind of scrap or if she was being serious about this. Her ears flattened back down on her head and she was looking back down to the floor of the freight. There was no way a dog would give up there cred, it was unorthodox.

Roxy thought back on her crew. They had been together for a while now and had shared their stories. They were all abandoned and unwanted; they all had their own battle scars. But what they shared the most with each other was their love. Not the romantic kind, the familial kind that grows bonds that lasts lifetimes. She trusted them and they trusted her. They followed her in faith and rarely questioned her. Surely they would understand why she was doing this.

The young dog looked at her seriously and tilted the cat's chin up so their eyes met, "Hey, hey. My boys, are my boys. I'm leader and what I say goes. If they don't like it they can leave the pack. But my guys, they know how to treat a lady and if I say you're special, you're special. That's the street rules but I didn't tell you about Roxy's rules. Rule number one don't question Roxy, rule number two, what I say goes. They don't have to trust you if they don't want to because they trust me. And I trust you because I know how you feel. You're not alone and if you don't let me down, then I wont let you down, its as easy as that. The grey-haired girl let out a small sigh as she looked at the ground for a moment, "Yeah I could lose my street cred, I could lose all respect I've ever earned in my very short lifespan," she pawsed((XD)) as she thought back on something Clyde told her, "but what is the use of the appreciation of a stranger compared to the distrust and scorn of a friend?" she spoke quietly. She seemed to be momentarily lost in thought. She was crossing a line that, as far as she knew, had never been crossed for this one little cat. She was confused but as she soon as she looked into those sad eyes of hers she knew that she had to do something.

Slowly standing and stretching her knees, Roxy looked at her, "You better eat that quick, the guys are waitin for us. I'm sure their lookin for me. You ready to be the happiest gal in the world?" Roxy extended her hand to the kitten, "I never got your name catnip."

Tabby was losing her mind right now with the way Roxxy was sounding so confident and strong. She was just looking into this woman's eye and the way she was caressing her chin made her feel even safer. Like she didn't care what would happen as long as Roxxy was there for her. She was risking everything for her, even her title as leader. Was she going to doubt someone like that? Not at all. She quickly accepted everything leading up to this point and putting all her faith into this dog. If Bruno was a good dog, then she could believe that Roxxy was another one of those kinds of dogs. She chowed down on the last of her steak and licked her lips in content of a fine meal before giving a stretch to warm-up.

"O-okay. It's Tabitha by the way, but you can call me Tabby for short. Whichever you like." Roxxy could do whatever she pleased with her honestly. As she had already brushed this kitty the right way. "Whatever happens to me now; I put my life in your hands. . .Roxxy." She said giving her a bright smile that showed how happy she was to finally meet a kind soul in this city of dogs.

Roxy smirked a bit as she looked at the very thin cat, "Then I won't let you down kitten. You have my word." Taking her hand she led the girl outside the freight, Now to just find home. Luckily the rain had stopped but moisture was still in the air. This was good because the water particles helped enhance the sense of smell. Taking a big lung full of air she looked off to the right of them a bit before sniffing furiously. She easily caught the scent on the light breeze and noticed that it wasn't as strong as she liked. This meant she was a good distance away and knew she had to hurry back. Roxy looked over at Tabby's small, almost frail frame. It didn't appear as if the girl could make that run. Sighing a little Roxy put the steak in Tabitha's delicate hands, 'Don't eat that ok? And hold on tight, we're going home." Roxy effortlessly lifted the cat bridal style, holding her close to her body. She had convinced herself it was just for safety but the heat making its way up her neck and to her cheeks said otherwise. The girl was soft, and warm, and felt really nice. It made Roxy's insides do weird things that its never done before. She gulped a little and tried to calm herself.

Taking another large breath she immediately turned to where the scent trail was coming from and took of running as fast as she could. Her hair was flowing in the wind as the damp rushed past her face and stuck to her skin. She dogged trash cans and dumpers, jumped over boxes and piles of filth. The sound of her wet feet echoing off the walls. The bottom of them were very rough so must things didn't hurt them. She just had to be careful even though it was hard to see in the dimly lit back streets. The dog rounded corner after corner as the scent got stronger, bolder, and more defined. She could smell all four of her comrades now and smoke from a fire. She was ready for her warm bed and a good night's sleep. The dog finally slowed down and let out a sigh of relief after running full speed for almost 15 minutes straight when her home finally came into view. It was a large abandoned warehouse in the middle of the steel district of K9. "Welcome home Tabs," the dark-skinned girl said smiling down at her newest companion, "Just follow my lead."

Tabitha nearly lost her mind when Roxxy had picked her up. She wanted to pull down on her skirt as the Roxxy's hand were riding up her legs, but she had to hold on to the piece of steak. The way the girl held her closely allowed Tabby to smell her scent which smelled of freshly cut grass that she perhaps laid in earlier today, it was a great fragrance. The way Roxxy's hair flowed and her skin shined from running through the damp took her breath away. Her face was blushing a new tone of reddish-pink and her grip tightened on that steak trying to control these feelings she was getting.

When they arrived the destination, Tabby's heart started beating a rhythm similar to when Roxxy had her cornered. The building was intimidating. She wasn't sure if it was just how big it was or if it was because she was going to be surrounded by more dogs. "Wait, Roxxy. . ." She said as she grabbed a hold of her arm and looked up at her. "Then I won't let you down kitten, you have my word." Why was she having second thoughts when this woman made a promise like that? She had faith that she would protect her if anything wrong happened to her. "N-never mind. . ." Tabby said with a smile as her face blushed once more. She brushed up against Roxxy's body and let out a purr.
