Quote:
[ Quest 2: Scavenging Team: ] You are asked to search the tower ruins for any weapons tablets.
- The tower ruins is a large, clay tower that seems to span still to the sky, crumbled for the most park and caked in a strange burnished substance. The outskirts of the tower is infinitely long, the inside is barricaded and you cannot enter. Around the outskirts you can see the remnants of a battle, and bloodstains that still look somewhat fresh . Occasionally a weapons tablet is poking out.
- Create a PRP thread and title it [QUEST PRP ] Scavenging Team (PLAYER NAMES HERE).
- Next, write your introduction posts to your team having gathered their wits and gotten ready to do the process. When you are ready, have your team start searching by rolling 1d10. There are lots of unusual shaped fossils to encounter, mostly blackened masses with mutated skulls, but none of them radiate Fear. If you roll a 10, you encounter a weapons tablet to bring back. When a 10 has been rolled 2 times your lime limit is up and you can head back. The quest is considered COMPLETED. Mark the title of the thread as so.

Their orders were simple enough. Head over to the nearest tower and look for tablets. A clear goal. That much was nice. Especially since it didn't seem like enemies were the biggest threat right then. Or that could just be Sherry and her wishful thinking.

"I don't like this," she said, continuing her train of thought out loud, "retrieval missions don't need the kind of urgency this one has. Or the numbers." She trudged through the sand, and fought the urge to shrug off her coat, hot as it was.

"What do you think?" She turned to look at Jake through her goggles.

Jake squinted through his goggles, wishing he didn't have to bother wearing them in the first place, but he really did appreciate having his eyesight. As it was, he'd probably need it to find whatever they were looking for. Weapon tablets.

He vaguely recalled a "talk" he had with the death lead a few months ago, and how he had ended up getting sucked into a specialization he hadn't even asked for. Tablet retrieval. It was a painful realization to a hunter's end, that that would be all that would be left behind. He almost didn't want to think about it, didn't want to remember, but it wasn't something he could run away from.

"Neither do I..." he mumbled, half out-loud and half to himself. "But nothing we can do about it, I suppose..."
He lifted his head, gazing at the tower towering above them, and sighed.

"Might as well get started.

Sherry was also looking up at the tower. It seemed to loom as it baked in the sun, the also baking battle remnants doing nothing to improve the atmosphere. It was almost odd, though, having blood and weapons out under such a bright sun. Usually such things were found in the dark. This damn desert was an exception.

"Ok. I think..." Sherry looked around, "This way." She started moving towards her left. "If you wander off, please don't wander out of sight. I'd rather not be left alone out here." She kicked at something that might have been a broken spear, the wood still fresh enough to not have been bleached by the sun.

"It's a shame we missed breakfast."

Letting out another sigh, his gaze returned to the ground, eyes darting back and forth to see if he could catch a glimpse of a stray tablet jutting out of the sand. Mostly it seemed to be just debris from a battle once fought, and he grimaced slightly at the remnants, averting his gaze from a particularly fresh-looking bloodstain.

Rather than wander off, he decided to follow close behind Sherry instead, letting out a small laugh as his boot scuffed the ground.
"Sorry about that. I, uh, have a granola bar if you want."
He pulled out a crumpled rectangular-shaped wrapper from his pocket, and tossed it at her, though not before accidentally kicking something, making it land in the sand instead.

"... oh. I found one."

Sherry shrugged at his apology. Really, there hadn't been time for breakfast, even if she hadn't had to spend a few minutes waking him up.
"Oh? Sure I'll-" She turned just in time to see it land in the sand. Half of it rested on some drying blood.

"Good," Sherry said without an ounce of sarcasm. "It would suck to return empty handed." They'd likely get scolded. "But do be careful. Who knows what's in all this mess." She bent over as she spoke, picking up the granola bar. It was in a wrapper, ok, crinkled or not.

"Want some?" She was already opening it, being careful to catch any crumbs that might fall out. She'd been hungry enough times before, she'd rather not be right then.

Jake grimaced as he saw Sherry pick the wrapper up, as he hadn't noticed it had fallen in... something else at the time.
"...Sorry."

He only shook his head at her offer, bending down to pick up the tablet.
"No, it's fine. Hopefully we won't be here TOO long..."
He was just really hopeful ok.

"M-kay," she said. Yes, she was talking with food in her mouth. Yes, it wasn't ladylike, but really, this was not the time to be ladylike. Besides, she was sure she did it in a cute manner. Maybe.

"We," she said, swallowing, "can hope. Off to a good start, though." She nodded at the tablet he had. "And it looks like there's a good chance there are a lot more." She didn't want to think about why there would be so many.

Sherry kicked at some other broken bits of things, before turning to look at Jake again. Silly goggles made sideways glances a bit difficult. "So, um, have you given any thought to the whole moving in together, thing? Not just... having two rooms."

Another piece of granola bar was popped into her mouth to keep her from asking more. She wasn't even sure why she brought it up right then. Nerves? Something else to think about? Sherry could kick herself as she chewed.

It's ok, Sherry, you were always cute in his books.

He nodded absent-mindedly, looking at the tablet in his hands. Part of him wondered who the tablet belonged to, how they died, what they were like, and what their partner was like. He couldn't help but pity the hunter and sighed, lowering his hand before he decided to give it too much thought.

Sherry's question made him lift his head, a slight flush creeping over his cheeks. Or perhaps it was just the wind and heat.
"Um..."
Jake found his gaze wandering back to the tablet.
"I... have."

Sherry looked away as he looked back down, and between the goggles and the sun she'd completely missed him flush. She had not missed the tone of his voice, even if she didn't know what it meant. Oh, yes, perfect time to talk about such things. Good job, Sherry.

Armagnac rumbled in her mind, but the meaning behind it was lost to Sherry.

Instead she was focused on Jake's response. So he had thought about it. Okay.

She knelt down to poke at something that might have been armor at one point, making sure to keep the granola bar away from it. "And um," she was trying to seem aloof, as though she were not emotionally invested in his answer. Even though last time she'd asked it might have been a little obvious. "What have you decided?"

He remained quiet for a bit, seeming to squint at something in the sand, and decided it wasn't worth his time kneeling to get a closer look.
"I..."

There was a dull thud as he kicked at something.
"I'm... ok with it. I mean, I think you were probably hinting at it for, um, quite some time. I just... never really... understood the implications behind it."
And perhaps never would have until Sherry told him. Or Chester. But the latter had had faith that Jake would realize sooner or later. Perhaps too much faith.

Sherry was doing a pretty fail job of looking for tablets, but she did manage another bite while Jake took his time responding. She turned to look at him when he made a sound though. Kicking things? From the look of it, yes.

"Okay with it?" She repeated his words as a question, no hint of annoyance behind it. "Well, um. I was... I mean. I was definitely hinting at..." The sun was clearly behind the color in her cheeks. "You don't have to say yes for my sake. If um, the implications too..." She swallowed, fumbling for the words she wanted. "No one should be uncomfortable in their own room, Jake. Sometimes," and she meant every time, "I get dressed in the middle of my room."

Now she turned to look at him. "And, um, the other implications are not, um, a requirement. If you don't want." She looked at the ground near his feet, even though she knew there were no tablets there. "I just...wanted to make sure you were still thinking it over. It has to be something you want, too. The moving in... all of it."

Yep. Sherry regretted bringing it up right then.

It didn't seem like either of them were focused on the task at hand anymore.

Jake mentally kicked himself for his choice of words. Even if she didn't show it, he knew it probably hurt her feelings. Here she was, bearin her would to him and he was just... okay with it? He really had no experience in this whole dating thing.

"No, I just..."
He couldn't hide the blush when she admitted she changed openly in her room, after she said she'd like the two of them to share a room, AFTER the fact that she told him she had wanted... to...
Wow, Jake, so many signs and you missed all of them.

Part of him just wanted to run and hide. Why did he find fighting and risking one's life on some god-forsaken mission easier than admitting to his girlfriend that he had never...

"N-no, it's fine, I'm just..."
He sighed.

"I'm not very good at this, am I?"

His words of denial that it bothered him did little to ease her discomfort. Sherry was too busy kicking herself. There were proper times and places for these matters. And at the base of some creepy ruins in a dangerous desert while hunting for the remnants of dead comrades was not the place or the time.

Sherry shoved what was left of her granola into her pocket as she stood.

"No, no, I'm the one that's not very good at this. I'm being pushy about it. I... don't mean to be. I never wanted to be the clingy girlfriend." She looked at him and smiled. "You're fine. I'd rather you take your time with a decision than rush into it and hate me for it later." At least she wasn't likely to cry...unless he said no flat out.

Armagnac was growing annoyed by the distraction of feelings.

Though her words said one thing, her expression said another, and he could tell that while she tried not to let it show, she was hurt by his hesitation.

"Sherry."
Search completely forgotten, he marched over to her, taking one of her hands.
"It's not your fault, and you have nothing to apologize for. If anything, I'm glad you told me. I'm sorry for hesitating, and I'm sorry for hurting your feelings. You're not clingy, and I love you. If I didn't, I wouldn't have gotten you a couple ring, nor tried to patch things up after I... stupidly messed them up. Let's... after all this, let's get it all sorted out."
