Sometimes you needed to get away from family. Chris detached himself from Chel and picked out a mist trainee that didn't seem to be otherwise occupied.
"Hey, they want us to go set up a location with barrier daggers. Want to team up?"

It had been quite some time since the mist trainee has seen some fieldwork, having spent the last few years doing menial chores at the facility. It seemed as though someone finally decided that he was disposable enough to send on an S class mission, and well, he wasn't feeling all too good about anything at all.
"...Sure," Dillon obliged the fellow trainee, though really they didn't have much of a choice. Gearing up with goggles and protection, the trainee picked up a set of daggers and got ready for the mission.
"Ready to get going?"

Chris nodded and they set out to the first ruins site Chris has been to since starting this mission. It was eerie and empty, with huge pillars fallen to the sand or crumbling where they stood. He whistled lowly as he hopped over one of the downed columns and walked to the center of the site.
"Temple ruins, maybe? Crazy s**t." He wasn't even paying much attention to where they were supposed to be placing daggers. He was a little entranced by the view.

"Hm," he responded distractedly, scanning the area for to see if there have been barrier daggers in place. There hadn't been one in the vicinity yet.
Dillon drew out one of the daggers he'd brought and carefully activated it, planting it into a discreet spot between two fallen columns. The mist trainee stepped back and brushed himself off, turning to shrug at Chris.
"Yea, let's keep moving." He was certain neither of them wanted to be staying out in the desert for too long.

Chris allowed himself to be nudged on, but reluctantly. He just thought the etchings in the pillars were really cool, okay? "How can you be so aloof about this? This is rad as hell."
He nearly tripped over a crumbled bit of stone, but he totally caught himself.

Dillon turned to look at Chris with a tired expression.
"I'm hungry." And tired. And facing imminent doom as always.
"It's great and all until you figure that it's stuff built to kill you," he replied, giving the temple ruins a proper once over. "Watch out for any traps," he cautioned.
They've moved along for a while and there have been no barrier daggers in sight. The mist trainee decided to stop for a while to plant the second dagger at the foot of a still standing column, before returning to his partner.
"You like history?" he asked, trying to keep the conversation light.

Now that he mentioned it, Chris hadn't eaten since before bed. That was hours ago. Aw man, he was hungry too. He frown as he watched Dillon fiddle with the daggers. "Hasn't killed us yet, so at least we're lucky so far."
When he left to go plant another dagger, Chris saw one out of the corner of his eye. He went and checked it's progress, recording it dutifully before meeting back up with Dillon.
"It wasn't the most awful subject, I guess. Learning about old mythology was the best part though. People believe crazy stuff."

They were nearly done with the mission, which made Dillon lighten up a bit. Yes they've been rather lucky so far, better not jinx it.
"Probably not all that crazy," he said, scratching the back of his head as he kept a lookout for more barrier daggers, "Seeing is believing, and I've seen a lot of messed up s**t around here."
"Dillon Avery, nice to meet you."

Chris hummed in agreement. That was probably true. How many civilizations were madly worshipping some of the very same crazy s**t they were fighting daily? A lot, probably.
He snapped out of the inner thoughts with a quick, "Oh s**t, yeah. I'm Chris Axten. I probably should have told you that when I asked you to come along with me."

The trainee let out a frustrated sigh as he scoured the ruins, unable to find anything. Kicking a piece of rubble away, Dillon hopped off the crumbling stone slabs and landed back onto the ground.
"How's Deus been treating you so far?" he asked casually, moving to observe some of the symbols carved onto the columns. "Cafeteria's always lacking some decent sandwiches."

They didn't technically need more daggers down, but Chris placed one anyways just to be safe. He didn't take much time with it. Just shoved it in place and moved on.
"It's been alright. Better than the army, in my opinion. And the food's no worse or no better than military rations I guess. I really miss good greasy food though, you know?"

"The army huh?" Dillon stopped to look at the other hunter for a moment, re-evaluating his opinion of him.
"Well, there are ways to get some things in Deus," he paused, scanning the area for daggers, "provided you could pay for it, I mean."

"On a trainee salary?" Chris laughed, shaking his head. "I'll deal with subpar for now, I think."
He almost walked by a dagger already set, but caught it just in time. "Hey here's the last one. Looks like it's good to go and we're clear to head back."

"Great, let's get going then," Dillon grinned, taking a stretch and shaking off the sand that had accumulated on his clothing.
"Hey, see you back at Deus yea?"
