Personality: Leon is happy to the point of obliviousness, with the immaturity to match. Combine that with a seemingly endless amount of energy and you get a man that's just bursting with joy. He can hardly sit still for more than a few seconds, leaving him either chatting with someone or pacing around. But despite his energetic nature, he's capable of having mature conversation-as long as it holds his attention. With an attention span of less than a second, one would have to physically hold him down to keep him from wandering away from the next thing to catch his eye.
However, if there's one thing that holds his attention, it's animals. Nothing delights him more than a conversation about animals. But be warned-if it comes up, be prepared for a barrage of facts and puns. It would take a considerable amount of effort to stop that constant river of words.
History: Leon was born to be a wanderer. His parents lived in boxcars for most of their lives, and he was no different despite his sickly appearance growing up. Scrounging was no way to live, but they weren't exactly in a position to do much else. But little Leon ended up being more of a boon than a burden, putting his small size to work by pilfering little objects to sell and easily reachable food. It wasn't until his late teens that a fateful stop in a crowded city forced them to separate, leaving Leon stranded in a strange new place as the train pulled away.
Having been taught to be nothing more than a common thief got him by for a while, but without a train car as shelter he found himself subject to the elements as winter hit. Desperate for a place to stay, he took a job running a pound, sleeping amongst the animals that were left behind much like he was. Over time he grew to love the animals the catchers put away, and spent every waking moment playing with them and giving them the love they weren't getting in their steel kennels. After losing one family, he found himself surrounded by another.
But this joy would be short lived as on the eve of his birthday, a carelessly left lantern was knocked over, and a small desk fire quickly turned into a terrifying blaze with Leon caught in the middle of it. Doing what any sane person would do, he attempted to save his family by yanking open every cage and carrying them to safety. Unfortunately for him, he would never escape the fiery death trap, and it was only an hour later that the inferno was doused. The night was filled the howls and cries of animals all over the city mourning the loss of their caretaker.
From the rubble arose an unscathed Leon, who was both bewildered and excited that he hadn't perished in the fire. He could see the animals he had released scattered through the cobblestone streets, and he instantly swelled with pride knowing that he had saved so many lives. He might have lost his only source of income, but at least he had rescued his family. But as he attempted to step out of the wreckage, he found himself tethered to the spot by a heavy chain that attached him to the smoldering remains of his body. For the first time in his life, Leon was struck with silence.
Leon must have stood there for hours coming to grips with the fact that he was, in fact, no longer among the living, yet he was still standing around like he was. Not only that, but he couldn't leave the building's charred, collapsed structure due to the fact that chain kept him from moving too far. Thought to be stuck between this life and the next, the man began to panic, yanking and straining against the chain with all of his might in an attempt to break free. It wasn't until he began to shout for assistance that a Soul Reaper calmed him down and explained what lay waiting for him on the other side. But instead of asking what he was supposed to do with this next phase of his life, Leon's questions turned to the snazzy uniform she was wearing. He had never seen anything like it! Compared to the dingy rags he was wearing, he might as well have been wearing...well, rags. While not quite the line of questioning she was expecting, he got the answer he was looking for-the Soul Academy.
Fresh from earth and now clad in his new far better looking (and better smelling) clothes, Leon had found himself a home where he could put his thieving little hands to good use.
Zanpakuto Information
Name: Dōbutsu no ikari (Animal Fury)
Sealed Appearance: The blade of Leon's katana is a mere 20" as opposed to the average 23 1/2" long, his shorter blade making it easier for him to handle more quickly. It's thinner blade is more susceptible to regular wear and tear, but glides through flesh and bone like it's nothing at all.
Release Command: Know the power of those left behind, Dōbutsu no ikari!
Shikai Appearance: The appearance of his Shikai depends on the spirit he most recent spirit he channeled.
Shikai Techniques/Abilities
-Tori: Channeling the spirit of birds, Leon's leg strength is enhanced to the point that he can jump twice his regular height, and is granted the ability to glide as far as 40 feet before he grows tired and is forced to land. In combat, he fights through kickboxing instead of with a sword, spiritual energy creating shoes with three short blades attached to them acting as talons.
-Neko: By channeling the spirit of the feline, Leon is graced with quicker on foot movement that is limited to him running on all fours. He has a heightened sense of hearing and smell, making him more alert to his surroundings. He fights with his hands, spiritual energy creating clawed gloves that he can used to cling to surfaces or slash at enemies.
-Tokage: The spirit of the lizard grants him a layer of steel scales that grant Leon extra defensive capabilities. They will not completely stop a blade, but it will be far more difficult to cut his flesh. Leon is also given limited regeneration of minor injuries (small cuts, bruises and the like). In this form his offensive capabilities are limited, as his body is weighed down by the metal that encases him, making his movements significantly slower. However, being in direct sunlight while in this form does slightly hasten his actions, just as being in shade or away from sunlight makes him sluggish and more prone to being tired.
Leon must wait around 15 seconds before he can change forms, making rapid spirit switches impossible. He can also cancel each form and return to using his sword, but it takes 20 seconds before he can channel another animal spirit if starting from neutral.
Bankai Status: Achieved
Bankai Name: Mure no rīdā (Leader of the Herd)
Bankai Appearance: Just like his Shikai, the appearance of his Bankai depends on the spirit he most recently channeled.
Bankai Techniques/Abilities
-Fenikkusu: Leon channels the spirit of the legendary phoenix, further increasing his jump height and glide height. With the spirit of the phoenix behind him, he radiates an immense amount of heat, and his spiritual energy fabricates a pair of majestic fiery wings. When he swipes with the talons on his feet, Leon shoots out a streak of flame, slightly increasing his attack range and burning those that are unfortunate enough to be within range.
-Tora: Through the spirit of the tiger, Leon's strength is further enhanced, along with far longer claws with serrated edges, meant for ripping flesh for agonizing wounds. Leon's appearance is far more bestial in this form, with his blue eyes glowing and his teeth sharpened to fine points.
-Kame: Empowered by the spirit of the tortoise, Leon's skin becomes extremely thick and difficult to pierce through normal means in exchange for slower movements. His spiritual energy manifests itself in the form of a large shell on his back that he can use to shield himself or others from attack. It is not, however, impenetrable. If the shell comes under too much stress, it will crack and eventually break. The shell breaking keeps him from using any of his forms for a significant period of time.
Combat Information
Specialization: While not specialized in any one style of fighting, Leon employs various techniques in combat. However, he is most known for using his sheath alongside his sword seamlessly in combat.
Known Techniques/Skills
Hakuda: While certainly not an expert, he could be considered above average in hand-to-hand combat, fighting with a bit more finesse than the standard Soul Reaper.
Zanjutsu: Swordplay is what Leon enjoys the most. He is in no way a master, but with his short katana and steel sheathe, he typically relies on parries and swift dodges, making him a more difficult target to catch.
Hoho: His small stature forced him to grow adept at evasion to keep himself from getting absolutely decimated.

Other Information:
-Leon doesn't go anywhere without his brown scarf. He might've lost it when he died, but a seamstress in the Soul Society was able to re-knit it without an issue. It's his most prized possession, and couldn't imagine life without it.
