Lock had returned to the building, not to do more work but to investigate. Something wasn't right with the fact that there was a building in the middle of the desert. Not right at all.
Instead he was whisked into another job. Was his grumpy face showing? It was probably showing.

Taima had already been put back on coffee duty, and she was spending the downtime between customers trying to figure out what all of the buttons on the coffee machine did. Really, why did they need to make coffee so complicated? Measure, brew, pour, done--that should have been it.
She looked up as someone approached. It was a reaper, but they didn't appear to be in any hurry like some of the ones she had served coffee too. "Hello," she said. "Are you an intern, too?"

Lock looked up at the ghoul that had joined him. Very pretty, the wings being the best part. "iNo. I ... Well maybe." Lock slapped his forehead. Maybe he was an intern at this point, he wasn't really sure. All he knew was that he was being asked to brew coffee and he didn't really seem to have a choice in the matter.
"Please tell me at least you think it's strange we're brewing coffee in an office building in the middle of a desert?" he pleaded. Why did nobody else find this strange? Why was life so hard.

"Yeah, I guess it's kind of weird," Taima agreed. "But there are stranger things. Out of all of the things we could be doing, making coffee is relatively benign."
As if on cue, a demon strolled up to the counter, eying the two interns with disdain. "What happened to the last interns? Whatever. Give me a latte with two shots of ichor."
Ignoring the demon completely, Taima asked her fellow intern, "Do you want to make the coffee, or do you want to deal with our wonderful customers? We can get rid of them faster if we divide up the duties."

"But ..." Lock gave an angsty sigh and decided to drop it. "Just forget it. You're all batshit insane."
Then again, he wasn't one to talk as he was asked for a slime latte. He said nothing to Taima about which choice he wanted, merely turne to the machine and began trying to figure it out. Now Lock had never used a coffee machine, but he certainly enjoyed coffee from time to time so he knew how it was supposed to look.
With the way the machine was whirring and clicking, Lock was worried.
It did not come out the way it was supposed to look.
"Here one ... whatever it was supposed to be."

"Oh, you must be new if you think this is crazy. I could tell you some stories." Taima wouldn't, though, not as long as there were customers to serve. She found the right button and made the demon's drink, adding an extra extra shot of ichor and charging him double for it. To her surprise and delight, the demon paid without complaint.
She eyed the drink the reaper boil was making, wrinkling her nose in distaste. She wasn't sure what it was supposed to be, but it looked gross. "I didn't know there were so many ways to make coffee," she commented as she took another order, making it with brisk efficiency. "My coffeemaker just has one button: the power button."

Lock shrugged a non-committal gesture. "It's not my fault. This machine doesn't have any labels." Just weird symbols and something that DEFINITELY wasn't in any language he knew.
Luckily it seemed like the coffee grubbers were gone. "Tell me your stories later. I'm trying to get to the bottom of this one now." And with that he walked off.
