For a 78th district, Inuzuri was a prosperous haven for the weak and the old at least in comparison to the other 78th districts. As rundown as they were, the housings were still functional and capable of offering shelter against most of mother nature's whims. Hollow activities are also extremely scarce. Unlike other districts, the ratio of souls with powerful spiritual presence is extremely small, making the district attractive only to the weakest Hollows as the stronger ones favor other districts for their ventures and hunts because they yield meals that are more rewarding to the power hungry beasts. The land is slightly more elevated compared to the other districts of Southern Rukongai, granting the Pluses that live in one of the richest slums an impeccable view on earlier districts and the walls separating Seireitei from Rukongai.
Posted: Mon Sep 15, 2014 8:24 pm
One would think that the Seireitei would be allowed some peace after the series of invasion it had barely managed to fend off. Unfortunately, that would not be the case. Right over the district's main street, what appeared to be the image of a white desert under a black sky slowly swirled into existence. It grew and grew, losing in opacity shortly before gaining it back just as quickly, until it was 10 feet wide and floating 15 feet above ground level. Then, a trickle of sand poured out of it until it became a veritable downpour of sand that threatened to bury the whole district.
The Pluses that were nearby immediately took off, trying to flee the dangerous phenomenon, but the sand by itself was not the main threat. The wormhole was, unfortunately, connected to Hueco Mundo and the sudden displacement of so much of its terrain had attracted unwanted attention, not to mention the numerous critters that lived in the sands.
One after another, hollow heads poked out of the growing mound of white sand. They were for the most part rather small critters that could be easily dispatched by a group of organized Pluses when alone, but the latter was not the case. These Hollows appear to have been travelling in small colonies lead by a couple of bigger, nastier Hollows that quickly leaped away from the group and started assaulting the inhabitants of Inuzuri. Though all of them possessed the power to create portals and travel between worlds, what had brought them to Rukongai had not been the Kumons they were used to. The strangeness of the situation and the proximity of weaker creatures around them had sent them into a bloody frenzy. What was even more worrisome was the potential of more Hollows appearing in Rukongai should the wormhole not be dealt with. However, an opportunist may see this as a marvelous thing: the wormhole appeared to have completely bypassed the defense mechanism of Hueco Mundo...

Following the sounds of screams and panicked footfalls, Captain Morrision found himself in the middle of what was slowly becoming a battlefield. He bobbed and weaved through the crowd of pluses so as not to lose speed as he made his way through the frantic civilians. Up above, he could see just what they were running from-the mound of strange, white sand that was spawning smaller hollows. Not only that, but a few of the larger hollows strayed from the original pack, cutting down unlucky Inuzuri inhabitants that had the idea of either staying to defend their homes or were simply too slow to escape the ravenous beasts that were besieging the rundown district.
"Know the power of those left behind, Dōbutsu no ikari!" Leon wasted no time transforming into his shikai, using the added speed from his new-found feline abilities to rush down a larger hollow clawing away a woman who was trying desperately to break free. Leaping into the air, Leon dove claws first into the hollow, knocking it onto its back and getting in a few quick strikes before ripping it apart savagely. Leon could hear the screeches of other hollows not far from him, but heput top priority on rescuing the wounded woman. He scooped her up and dashed away, leaving her in the arms of a burly plus that was willing to help him save her.
"Hurry. She doesn't look like she's in good shape." The captain spat quickly.
The man nodded and carried her away, putting the young captain's mind at ease, if only for a moment. His attention turned back to the mound of sand he had left behind. Small hollows continued to dig their way out of the sand like roaches, and there were still a few more of the larger hollows that he had yet to exterminate. If he was going to keep the district from being destroyed, he would need to work faster without being overwhelmed, a task that seemed near impossible to do alone...

Jack Mallory, Archer of Death and Captain of Division Three, skidded to a stop over Inuzuri. There was white sand and Hollows everywhere. This certainly counted as an emergency. Jack spotted Captain Leon Morrision of Division Thirteen.
Jack shouted cheerfully at him, “Hey! Leon! How are you gorgeous?” Jack placed a hand to her hip and pushed it out, “Looks like you could use some help!” Jack wasted no more time before drawing her Zanpakutō, “Stain it red, Chimamire no Yuki!”
Jack wakazishi transformed into a bow that was 40 centimeters long. The bow was white wood and, the lower arm sported a blue-white ribbon with red spots. Jack started grinning like a maniac.
Jack brought the bow up and, pulled the bowstring back to her ear, “Ya no Kōri!”
Jack sent a singular bolt of ice at the swarm of Hollows to see how they would react. All but one of them scattered. That one was skewered and, disintegrated in to spiritual pressure.
Jack muttered to herself, “This could take a while.”

A broad grin spread across Leon's face as a familiar voice hailed him before skewering a single hollow. Knowing Jack, she wouldn't be happy that she did so little, but every enemy slain was one less to deal with, making her contribution just as important as his.
"Hey hey! There's that sexy archer I know and love! Good to see a friendly face!" Captain Morrison called back before proceeding back into the fray. He had his eyes set on a larger hollow that was mindlessly causing destruction in the stalls, tearing down the ramshackle homes that these poor pluses had spent their lives building and maintaining. Leon couldn't tell if it was looking for something or not, but its motivation mattered little to a man whose entire purpose was to eliminate them.
Moving through the sand on all fours was far easier than that it would be trying to walk through it upright, with clouds of sand kicked up behind Leon in increasing intervals as he picked up speed. Before too long the man's rapid gallop had caught the attention of his target, but it was entirely too late for the beast to react. The man walloped the hollow with an momentum-charged uppercut, sending the beast spiraling away further into the district. He quickly followed up his assault by bounding onto the rooftops to pursue his target. Leaping off of the rusty tin roofs, the young captain dove down claws first, embedding his claws into the hollow's mask and tearing it in two. That was two down, with plenty more to go.
"Jack, how's the district looking? Have all of the pluses been evacuated yet? We have to make sure we save everyone we can so we can avoid collateral damage!" Leon called to his partner, ensuring that she knew what was top priority in this situation. Hollows could be easily dealt with; losing innocent lives was no so easy to handle.

Jack called out to Leon, “Everybody’s out of the immediate area. They are evacuating the surrounding area as we speak. The sooner we get this done the better.” Jack paused for a moment to ask, “You didn’t see any weird pillars did you?”
Jack was speaking of Komiguchiku. Leon and Jack had been the first and only responders to that disaster. Disaster was too small a word. So was catastrophe. There had been four pillars there and, they had only managed to destroy two. Jack didn’t want to repeat that experience.
Jack pulled her bow back, “Ya no Chi!”
Four bolts the color of blood sank into one of the bigger Hollows. It howled as is evaporated into spiritual pressure. Jack grinned in triumph. They were making progress.
A Hollow rushed Jack and she somersaulted forward. She came up on one knees and, aimed her bow at the monster that dared to attack her. With a verbal command she sent another blood color arrow at it to dispose of it. She flipped around and, sent another one at a Hollow that was about to attack Leon.
Jack hollered out, “You owe me a kiss!”
She then looked around for her next target. She could afford to waste time. She needed to end this quickly or it would become worse.

伊藤 斑鳩 -- Itō Ikaruga
Ikaruga, 'feisty' young lieutenant that she was, was sprinting with all her might to the seventy-eighth district, trying to find her way through the alleyways before she could finally hear the frenzied screams and anxious hollers of frightened pluses. She saw it as a good sign; even though it obviously wasn't. At the very least - it meant she was going the right way. The spiritual pressure she felt coming from the area was fairly intense, but it wasn't from the enemy... Well, they certainly added to it, but not like this. Captain Level Reiatsu filled Ikaruga with a vigor you only experience when fighting alongside these behemoths of energy and power. One of them felt familiar... Her captain? Most definitely. His pressure was, for lack of a better word, 'erratic'. Beast-like. That's how it was to her, anyway. It either felt like a rabid wolf or playful puppy.
The other was slightly harder to place, but still highly recognizable. Captain Jack Mallory, head of the Third Division. Something Ikaruga prided herself on was recognizing her comrades. Of course as of now she was doing her best to focus on them both... In any other situation she'd probably excuse the Reiatsu and find out who it belonged to later.
She shook her head, realizing that she was beginning to space out. She tended to do that after a night of no sleep. Eventually Ikaruga got the led out and found herself in the midst of quite a peculiar site. The report wasn't wrong: sand was indeed everywhere. When she finally came to a stop, the poor girl was doubled over and breathing heavily... She completely forgot that she could have just Shunpo'd over here, which would have saved her a considerable amount of time and probably energy.
"Captain," she breathed, planting her hands on her knees and giving a hearty 'whoo!' before wiping her brow. "I came as soon as I heard!" She didn't bother with the whole 'I sort of just ran here!' bit, as it was more than likely blatantly obvious.
When she finally regained her composure (and dodged out of the way of a hollow or two) she drew her blade, eyeing a few more of the beasts that rose out of the sand.
"Cleanse the wicked, Amayako!" She cooed. Amayako's blade grew teeth, and the gentle sound of rain in the far off reaches of Ikaruga's mind indicated the pattern upon the umbrella was changing.

Captain Leon Morrison Captain of Division 13: Hollow Extermination
"Pillars? I don't remember seeing any..." Leon called back. His mind was racing at a million miles an hour, making it difficult for him to stay focused on any one moment in time. Combat always muddied his mind ever so slightly; it was a weakness that Leon never realized happened until far after the engagement, and couldn't seem to shake or improve. He was better off focusing on the task at hand, anyway. There was no reason to dig up past failures...
The captain could hear his partner sniping hollows not far from him, and the presence of a ranged comrade instilled confidence in him. He wouldn't have to worry so much about being overwhelmed. In his new-found boldness, Leon found himself rushing the pile of white sand with the intention of picking off a few stragglers that had yet to leave the comfort of their sandy way in. Unfortunately for him, as he reached the apex of the pile, several hollows emerged from beneath the dune to ambush him.
He cursed his luck, bearing his claws menacingly as he attempted to find a way out that would cause him minimal bodily harm. Suddenly, the sound of a hollow dissipating caught the sound of the small hollows, giving Leon the chance to knock one down the hill and leap after it in pursuit, breaking free of the circular ambush.
"I owe you plenty more than a kiss, Jack! But that's a good place to start!" He turned to see if any of them decided to follow him and flash Jack a smile, but instead found that their attention had turned toward his second in command, who was mid apology before she evaded a couple of hollows.
Another friendly face was always appreciated, especially in the case of his lieutenant. Itō had difficulty sleeping on a regular basis, and they often spent the nights she was awake together, filling their time with whatever came to mind-typically the paperwork that Leon had put off from days and days ago. What impressed him the most was that the lack of sleep did nothing to her technique or her personality. She was a unique woman, to say the very least.
"Itō!" Leon cried happily. "Don't apologize for being late! I'm just glad you made it at all! Did you get any rest before you made it over?" He asked as he punted the hollow off of the sand hill, like a cat playing with its prey. Once it collided with the pavement, the young captain was there to deliver a swift stomp to the mask, shattering it and erasing it from existence. One more down.

Jack smiled at the new comer, “Hello Lieutenant Ikaruga! You are certainly a sight for sore eyes! How are you?”
To say that Jack was being cheerful and chipper was like saying the ocean was big and wet. There weren’t any pillars and, it didn’t look like things were getting too bad. Surely three Officers could handle on horde of Hollows.
Jack took aim at a Hollow that was trying to leave the area, “Ya no Kōri!” Three of the ice bolts went soaring but Jack didn’t pause before aiming at another one of the big Hollows, “Ya no Chi!”
Three of the blood colored arrows raced towards that target. Jack flipped her head back to see that her Ya no Kōri attack had made contact. That Hollow screamed as in collapsed into nothingness. There was another scream and, Jack turned to she that her Ya no Chi had made contact as well.
One of the smaller Hollows tried to attack Jack from behind. Jack spun around and hit the creature with a Hakuda fueled kick. This one screech hurt her ears as it became spiritual pressure. Jack scowled; she hated hand t hand combat.
Then she cheerfully called out, “We seem to be doing well my Division Thirteen lovelies! Wouldn’t you agree?”

伊藤 斑鳩 -- Itō Ikaruga
Poor Ikaruga was busy jumping out of the way of the claws of her adversaries whilst trying to even comprehend what the two captains were saying. She deftly sidestepped a hollow and brought her blade upward from its side to the top of its head, slicing it neatly in two.
Well, considering her own captain took presedence, she replied to him first. "No," she answered exasperatedly. "I managed to finish a bit of your overdue paperwork, though!" She added, trying to sound just a little less useless. Another hollow came up from her side, but she pivoted on her foot and spun around her target, bringing her blade downward from the back of her opponent, cutting through to the base of the skull. The 'fshhh' the Hollow made upon its death was music to the lieutenant's ears.
Next was Captain Mallory. Ikaruga always enjoyed being in her presence. Jack's good mood and peppy attitude were contagious. The 'young' lieutenant managed to feel a little less weary when her senior member's voice rang out over the ensuing battle. "The same as usual, Captain!" She answered spiritedly. "Dead tired and horribly stiff around the shoulders. Nothing a little scrap like this won't clear up!" The young lieutenant smiled warmly as she brought Amayako down onto another Hollow, this time cutting it in two from the top down. She appeared to be in top form today! That was something, right? "How long has this been going on? I'm afraid I missed the skirmish earlier..." She shot an accusatory glance at her captain, considering she was doing paperwork at the time... His paperwork.
Feeling pleased with herself, she gave a little flourish of her umbrella and thrust her arm outward, unfolding the gorgeous canvas that made up the pattern itself... With a sickening pop? Ikaruga quirked an eyebrow before looking past Amayako's other half and saw the source: a hollow with a cylinder carved neatly through its head, right between its eyes.
"Oh dear," Ikaruga said softly, covering her mouth with her hand.

Hollows fell left and right between the two women in Leon's merry band of shinigami, and before his very eyes he could see the numbers thinning. Each destroyed hollow reinvigorated the captain, and before long he was back on all fours, sprinting at near breakneck speeds. He could completely rest when the area was clear.
"Keep it up! Jack's right, we're doing a great job!" Leon called out like a battle cry, spotting a pack of hollows that were attempting to flee and cause destruction elsewhere. His eyes narrowed and he turned on a dime, determined to capture his prey.
He could hear Itō filling him in on how she was doing, but he was far too absorbed in the hunt to acknowledge her. Leon had shifted into the mindset of the predator, like a feral cat ready to kill. He simply made a point to treat her to dinner for, essentially, being the captain for him.
Kicking off of his back foot, Leon launched himself forward, sinking his claws into an unlucky hollow that had lagged behind just a bit. They tumbled together at a high speed, passing up the other hollows it was traveling with as he wrestled with the monster, jabbing wildly at its side before kicking it away to die slowly, the beastly fighter rolling to a skidding halt and cutting off the group of fleeing hollows.
"Ohhhhh you little jerks are in for it now..." Leon grinned menacingly. The hollows took the man's smile as a challenge shrieking at him before charging forth. Unfortunately for them, the captain was in rare form today. The first of the remaining hollows was met with a mask shattering punch, sending it sailing away, never to be seen again. The next two got the chance to attack, but were swiftly parried before being grabbed by the arm and smashed together before being tossed away like rag dolls. Another that lunged at him was met with an uppercut that hit hard enough to sound like thunder itself and sent the hollow staggering backward, leaving it open for Leon to cleave in two with his claws.
The final three seemed wary of the man that just slaughtered their comrades, but Leon wasn't about to let them figure out what to do next. He swept a hollow's legs out from under it before grabbing it and using it like a crude bludgeon, beating down the remaining hollows in a ferocious, blind rage. He had abandoned all technique and style in lieu of decimating his opponents. When he was finally finished, he found himself exhausted. His hair was a mess, his scarf was askew, and he looked strangely reminiscent of a wild animal. He was still save for his heaving chest, taking in deep breaths as quickly as he could.
"Thank you for...doing my work, Itō." Leon nodded between pants. "You're a good lieutenant! I really appreciate you picking up the slack for me. Remind me after the battle to treat your or something..."

Jack cheered cheerfully, “Way to go Leon! Show us how it’s done.”
Leon’s awesome display of amazing power had scared a Hollow. It was running as fast as it could away from the Captain whose specialty was Hollow extermination. Jack gave a verbal command to send a Ya no Kōri at the terrified creature. There wasn’t a sound as it disintegrated into spiritual pressure.
Then a Hollow flew straight passed and, Jack’s eyes narrowed. It appeared that size did not equate speed. Or it least it didn’t right now. A winged Hollow was flying away from the scene of the battle. It was almost out of Jack’s range. Even though Jack was standing in the air she dropped to one knee. She took a deep breath and the world condensed down the bow in her hand and the target. Jack pulled the bowstring back towards her ear. The bolt of blood-colored energy formed as Jack took careful aim. The less arrows she sent the higher her accuracy was. So this time she was sending on arrow and one arrow only. Jack had to send it now; the monster was almost out of range.
Jack told Chimamire no Yuki, “Ya no Chi!”
Jack released the bowstring and the attack flew. Jack kept her eye on the target and, saw the arrow flying in her mind’s eye. The Hollow’s screech was signal enough that Jack’s accuracy had not faltered. Jack smiled a small smile of sadistic triumph. She truly was an Archer of Death.

伊藤 斑鳩 -- Itō Ikaruga
Ikaruga had dodged out of the way of another hollow before she deftly brought up her umbrella and blocked an incoming blow from one of the smaller beasts darting about. The sound it made was not unlike steel scraping against steel; another noise that was pleasing to the ear. After this she would probably go take a nap, even if she didn't want to. What her captain could treat her to was a comfortable bed that made her welcome sleep... Not the lumpy old thing in the barracks. She gave a soft giggle at the notion before she side-stepped a hollow and brought Amayako from the side of its face, cutting its head like a cantaloupe.
Ikaruga gave a sigh before finally responding to her captain. "Don't be an idiot," she said sternly. "It's part of the job." This wasn't really a lie. Her duties were to assist her captain in whatever he needed as long as it pertained to Shinigami work. Technically, doing his paperwork was well within the parameters of her duties as lieutenant.
"I appreciate the sentiment, though," she continued. "And I would appreciate it if you made me tea later." Her face went slightly red. She felt like she had asked too much. "If it isn't an inconvenience." She added hastily.

Captain Leon Morrison Captain of Division 13: Hollow Extermination
The hollows had thinned out to the point that the remaining four were all attacking in coordination, chasing down a poor plus that had crawled from the wreckage of his hut in an attempt to flee. Sure the man was a bit late on leaving the scene of the attack, but Leon couldn't blame him for wanting to stay. That shack was everything he knew, and he couldn't risk losing it, since losing it meant being homeless once again.
"I've got these last four! You guys start investigating and seeing if this was just a random attack!" Leon barked orders out as though he were in situational command, pursing the final beasts with vigor. He could practically taste the victory.
Catching up to the group was fairly easy in his cat form, his dramatically increased speed giving him the edge in pursuits. He swiped the slowest hollow's legs out from beneath it before trampling over it and crushing it entirely. The other two he nudged to knock over, and the final one he yanked and tossed behind him like a pebble in his way. The dust-covered man hurried away, shouting a thanks over his shoulder. Leon didn't expect him to stop and properly pay his respects; this was a life or death situation. He was better off away from the scene.
As Captain Morrison slowed and turned himself around, the remaining hollows were recomposing themselves to face down the shinigami. But he wasn't about to give them a fighting chance. Rushing down the first hollow, Leon battered it with a flurry of punches before knocking it into the pile of sand from whence it came. The other two attempted to attack him, but the most one of them did was shred a small portion of his uniform as he evaded the wild swipes and strikes. With a flick of his wrist, he deftly deflected a blow from one hollow, allowing him the chance to counterattack with his opposite claw, digging into the hollow's mask before kicking it away, sending it sliding away as it slowly disappeared.
The final hollow tried its best to defeat the fearsome captain before it, but its attacks were parried nonchalantly, as if Leon was using it for practice until he cut both of its arms and sliced it in half, felling the last hollow with ease.
"Consider this battle over. Jack, Itō...great work." He reverted to his original, sealed form as he nodded to the two of them, a broad-if somewhat worn out-smile on his lips. "Itō, I'd be honored to make you some tea. That's all you want? I owe you plenty and all you want is tea? I'll have to keep that in mind for the next time I want you to do a little work for me..." He mused with a chuckle as he sheathed his zanpakuto. Its day's work was finished now.
Jack scoffed and called out to Leon, “I don’t investigate. I shoot things!”
However Jack did jump through the air and, landed at the pile of sand. She picked up a handful and, ran it though her fingers. It was bone white. Jack would know; she had seen her own bone enough times to be sure. She had read reports that said the sand in Hueco Mundo was this color. Why would Hollows bring sand with them if they decided to attack the Soul Society? Answer: Hollows wouldn’t; they weren’t smart enough to plan for traps or tricks. However Arrancar were plenty smart to trick and trap. So if this was an attack Arrancar were behind it. Jack scowled at that thought. Arrancar were sure to make things difficult.
Then Jack smiled and turned to wave at the members of Division Thirteen, “Captain! Lieutenant! Come over here so that way I can flirt with you while I think!”
Jack didn’t wait for an answer before using Shunpo to flash over to them. Once there she gave her bow a flick to seal it. With a practice move Jack slid the Zanpakutō into the sheath on her back.
Jack promptly began flirting, “Itō! Your eyes are beautiful and, your skills are breathtaking!” Jack turned to Leon, “My dear Captain! As always you’ve impressed me! Need I say more?”
Jack was not a liar. She saw beauty in everything. It was one of the few things good about her. Jack had cultivated that talent for a long time. She prized it highly.
