It was hot. Very, very hot. Well, it was summer, after all, but the north was so much more humid than the more southern areas Gamma was used to roaming at this time of year. What he wouldn't give to be near the mountains. At least they wouldn't be as blasted hot as these plains were. Sweat poured down his green frame as he trudged toward the nearest source of shade, which was too far away for him to be happy about spotting. Grumbling, he could feel his mind wandering into some odd thoughts. This heat was reminding him of something. That's right. Eta was abandoned on a hot day like today, wasn't she? Her and Zeta. The weight of the guilty thoughts that followed that musing slowed his progress further. Instead of quietly sliding into the shade of the tree he'd found, he all but collapsed at the tree's base. He shook his head once to get at least some of the sweat off, but most of it clung persistently to his skin and mane. Letting out a huff, he gave up and laid his head down. He started to close his eyes, but then he thought he saw something. A splotch of bright color. Was he hallucinating, or was something really there?

Alyssa looked up at the sky as the sun was so hot and high in the sky. She didn't mind the heat but sometimes it was nice when it was colder and the clouds covered the sky. She also enjoyed the rain but the sun and cheer it brought was her favorite. She caught sight of a green male walking towards some shade and stood there to watch for a bit. She had never seen him before and she wasn't sure if he would be ok with being disturbed. Some hated to be approached by strangers Especially out on open planes like this. She continued to watch him walk to the shade and wondered who he was. He was a pretty color and his mane and tail caught her eyes. She stared in shock as he collapsed next to the tree. She raced over to him worried. The last time she had met someone new they had been collapsed too. She had to stop meeting people like this. It made her so worried. She saw his head drop down. She sprinted over to him and looked down at him. "Are you ok? Is there anything I can do to help you? Do you need some water or food?" She stood in the shade next to him and swished her tail so it would make a breeze and tried to cool him off. She hoped he was ok. She frowned really worried about this guy. Was he from around here? Maybe not. Maybe he just wasn't used to this much heat and sun. Some would push themselves too far if they weren't used to it.

Gamma's eyes had slid closed briefly when he heard quick footsteps. He forced his eyes open again as a voice asked him rapid-fire questions. At least, he assumed they were addressed to him, since he was the only one around to his knowledge. His gaze focused on coral-colored hooves, a sand-colored flash going back and forth across his vision. The voice sounded feminine. A mare, then? There was a nice breeze falling on him now, too, which helped the shade take the edge off the heat. Deep pink eyes lazily shifted their gaze upward towards the mare's face. "You talk fast," he mumbled, unsure if he should bother talking to her. After all, he was half-convinced that he was hallucinating. But if maybe talking, even to a hallucination, would be relaxing. Or just tiring, like it usually was. "Who are you?" he asked after he found the energy to speak again.

Alyssa looked down at him really worried. She hoped he was ok and when he didn't answer she got even more worried. What could she do to help him out? Was there anything she could do if he was really badly hurt? She saw him open his eyes and waited for him to say something. She kept swishing her tail and looked into his pink eyes. She relaxed as he spoke. "Yeah that happens when I get nervous, scared, excited or some other emotion like that. Sorry." She looked down at him and waited for him to say something else. She smiled when he did. "I'm Alyssa. Who are you? And are you ok or not?" She really hoped he was ok.

Gamma's vision was quite a bit fuzzy, but the mare seemed to change posture when he spoke. Her apology almost made him crack a smile. His sister Beta would have simply rolled her eyes at him and kept talking happily at her lightning-fast pace. "I'm Gamma. And I'll be fine... just hot and tired." And possibly hallucinating the mare he was talking to. He was almost tempted to say it aloud, but he decided it wasn't worth the energy he'd have to spend to do so. Though he wanted to say something else, he really wasn't sure what to say. For all of his intelligence, Gamma was almost void of knowledge concerning socializing--even just idle banter. How did one start a conversation? Beta would just jump right in, but Gamma was nothing like his sister. What did he say? His tired mind gave him no good answers, so he just watched Alyssa's tail swish back and forth.

Alyssa watched the stallion as he just laid there. He was making her worry so much. She really needed to stop meeting new people like this it was not good for her heart. She relaxed a bit and kept using her tail as a fan for him as he spoke. "It's very nice to meet you Gamma. Would you like me to get you something to eat? That might help you." She continued to watch him it really looked like he needed some help and like he was dehydrated too. Maybe if she brought him some juicy fruit that would help. She moved her tail faster to make more of a breeze for him as he watched her tail swish. He was such a strange guy. "Where are you from if you don't mind me asking?" It didn't seem like he was used to the heat here.

"Is it?" Gamma mumbled at the first comment, more to himself than to the mare. Was he truly a nice person to meet? Possibly, if only because mares kept meeting him on days like this where his gloom could be mistaken for exhaustion. He gave an unenthusiastic shrug of his shoulder to her first question. "I suppose food would help," he replied. Whether she wanted to get him something was up to her, though. He blinked slowly a few times as the sand-colored tail accelerated in its swishing, pink eyes now having a harder time of keeping up with it. But it also pulled him out of his heat-caused stupor a bit, and the breeze was god-sent on a day like this. A pink eye attempted to look up at Alyssa's face when she spoke again, but his blurry gaze couldn't make out much so he defaulted back to watching the tail. Where he was from, huh...? "Nowhere in particular," he replied. "I'm staying with my younger sister and her adoptive family, but only temporarily."

Alyssa nodded her head. "Yes. Or at least I think it is. Why?" She thought he seemed nice and it was always a pleasure to meet people. She smiled when he said he would like some food. Then she would go and get him some food. This was the same as the last person she met. Going and getting food for someone who looked like they were about to pass out. She stared to think about what she could get him. She had no idea what he liked but he didn't seem to be in a mood where he wanted to make many decisions so she would just have to get him somethings she thought would help. She watched him blink so slowly. He really looked like he needed something cold. She looked into his pink eyes and frowned. He really didn't look good. She kept her tail moving at the much faster speed to keep the breeze much stronger. She smiled as he tried to look up at her. She tilted her head and hoped that he was ok. "Everyone is from somewhere." She smiled. "Oh that must be nice to be staying with family. I'll be right back."
She turned and raced off to grab some fruit. She returned and placed all the different fruits down in front of him. Then she went back to swishing her tail quickly in front of him. "Here I hope you like those. I don't know what your favorite foods are but I do hope you like those." She beamed at him.

"Because everyone who meets me seems uncomfortable and adamant to 'fix' my apparently infectious gloom," Gamma replied unenthusiastically. Except Kadenza, but she'd also not noticed him at first--and sat on him as a result. He thought on Alyssa's next words as she went in search of food. Everyone is from somewhere. But where was he from? He didn't know how to reply to it; he'd been traveling since he was old enough to walk, and didn't really remember where he was born. He wasn't like Beta, who'd found a place to settle. He was still roving around, loosely anchored to his sister's home.
As for it being nice to stay with family, Gamma wasn't so sure. Yes, he loved his sister and was protective of her, but he was also easily annoyed with her. She was loud and seemed really happy, but occasionally a silent sadness that hung over the mare when she was by herself. Plus, her adoptive family was huge. It was suffocating at times to be around so many Azreins, as well as several humans. He didn't have anything against humans, but they tended to make him uncomfortable.
His thoughts were broken by the quiet thumps of fruit being piled in front of him. The heat-reducing breeze returned too, followed by Alyssa's voice. "I eat whatever is edible," he replied simply. Then, as an after-thought, he added, "Thank you." He couldn't see her smile with his currently limited sight, but he could practically feel the sunshine coming off of her. He munched on the first fruit, recognizing the color and taste. An apple. He'd had a few with his sister. The next was a shape he recognized, but had never had before: a pear. It was... interesting. The third he had to inspect for a moment or two, as it was a similar color to the hooves not too far away. This fruit was different from the other two. It wasn't--when he finally confirmed that it wasn't part of Alyssa--hard or crunchy; it was soft, juicy and sweet. It was also slightly fuzzy on the outside. The taste was very different from what he was used to. He devoured the peach eagerly, then went on to the other fruit around him. They were all good and much better than his usual diet of grass and the occasional patch of clovers, but the fuzzy pink fruit had been the best.
When he finally finished, his pink eyes lifted to look at the mare. Though still unenthusiastic, his gaze was sharper now, more aware of his surroundings. Alyssa's face finally came into view, and he inspected her purple eyes thoughtfully. He wasn't sure what to think of her. She was nice almost to the point of being naive, but she wasn't as loud and... well, overly enthusiastic like his sister and Kadenza were. How strange. He couldn't recall meeting someone with a personality like this before. Haides mate and Beta's adoptive mother both came close, but neither were quite the same as this mare. For some reason, he found himself a bit curious. Unfortunately, that likely meant she was equally curious about him, and he probably didn't have the answers to the questions she would ask. An aimless, cowardly, life-long wanderer like himself wasn't very interesting.

Alyssa frowned when he spoke about his infectious gloom. She hadn't seen gloom from him but then again he looked so dehydrated and as if he was about to pass out so it was easy for her to not be able to tell what he was like. "I'm sorry that others are uncomfortable around you and try to fix who you are. There is something good and interesting in everyone. People just need to learn how to see it."That was what she believed but she knew that not many others saw things the same way she did. She really wanted to get to know this guy better but would let him rest and get better. No need to pester him with questions when he was having a hard time focusing on anything.
After she came back with the fruit she watched him. She giggled when he inspected the peach and looked at her hoof. Yeah it looked a bit like her hooves but it was a fruit. And then she saw him take such delight in eating it. Ok he loved peaches that was good to know. Had he ever had a peach before? She nodded. "You're welcome. I'm just really glad I could help. Seems you really loved that peach. Would you like me to get you some more peaches?" She liked watching him look happy. It was so strange she had never seen anyone take so much pleasure in a peach before. And she had never been so happy to see someone else be happy. She loved seeing others be happy but him happy was even better.
"Have you ever had a peach before?" Maybe that was why he liked it so much because it was so new and foreign. Well that could also make someone hate something too. She was happy he liked the fruits. Fruits were her favorite thing to eat and she knew all of the good places around here to get the best fruit. She looked into those pink eyes when they lifted up to her purple eyes and she beamed even more. She inspected his pink eyes as he inspected her purple ones. She wondered what was in his past to make him the guy he was now. What had happened to him? But it would be very rude to just start asking those kind of questions. And he still seemed so out of it. She didn't want to push him.
She continued to swish her tail very quickly so that the breeze blew over him. She saw some curiosity in his face and tilted her head. She would answer any questions he asked her. Maybe it would be better to let him ask her questions and then she could ask him some of her own. That seemed fair and it would show what he was interested in.

Genuine. That was the word that game to mind when he listened to Alyssa speak. Her words were spoken with a level of kind sincerity that he wasn't used to. She honestly believed that there was something good and interesting in everyone. What was good or interesting about him, he wondered. He couldn't think of anything.
His ears perked up at the sound of her giggle. It was a... pleasant sound. He paused in his fruit-munching when she mentioned that he seemed to have loved the peach. Ah. So that was what it was called. Made sense. It peach-colored, after all. Was that where the color got its name? His ears perked up again at Alyssa's offer to retrieve more peaches. But then she asked a question and he was temporarily distracted from the prospect of more of the sweet fruit. "No, I haven't," he replied.
His pink eyes widened slightly as they inspected each other, a little stunned by the mare in front of him. Her expression was pure sunshine that glowed even more when his gaze met hers. Sparkling amethysts set in a face the color of peaches and surrounded by sunlit strands of golden mane... It was a strange feeling that was washing over him. Everything else seemed to melt away, even the heat. He was curious, but also content not to satisfy it. But the curiosity reflected in Alyssa's own eyes reignited his own. "Where are you from, Alyssa?" The question was out of his mouth before he even realized he'd opened it to speak.
(( His thoughts are waxing poetic. I think this is a good sign. ))

Alyssa was curious as to what he was really like. Sure he said he was gloomy but that didn't mean he was really gloomy. It was hard to judge your own character. She thought she was nice and genuine. She was a sweetheart but it was hard to know if that was how others perceived her. She continued to watch him and smile. It was nice seeing him eat and look better. He was looking much better than when she had first found him. He looked like there was life in him again. It was a very good sign in her opinion.
She watched his ears perk up when she giggled and hoped he would be ok with her laughing. She wasn't really laughing at him it was just he was so cute. She couldn't help but giggle. When he stopped munching she frowned just a little hoping he was ok. She went back to beaming when she saw his ears perk up when she offered to get him more. Yep she would get him many more peaches. She nodded when he said he had never had them before. "I'm very glad I was able to find something you liked so much. I'll get you more since you seem to love them so much." She beamed even more hoping he would be ok with that.
As she looked into his eyes she saw his pretty pink eyes widen. How pretty those eyes were. Such a bright and delightful color. They made him look so much nicer when they were bright and alert. She tilted her head when she saw a stunned look. Was she not pretty in his opinion? Was he stunned because she wasn't up to his standards? Did he wish a prettier mare had found him? She snapped out of her thoughts at his question. "I'm from the desert. Not sure where exactly though. When I was younger we moved throughout the desert and then the forests just a bit." She turned and ran off to get more peaches for him. She then placed them in front of him. She had grabbed as many as she could and smiled at him. She returned to her tail swishing to cool him off.
((Oh yay I'm glad that's a good sign. XD))

Despite his dazed state, Gamma noticed when the mare tilted her head at him. What was she thinking about? Had he done something odd? He was curious, curious to hear her opinions. But he didn't ask, as she was replying to the question that had already been asked. The desert and forests... Also... "We?" he repeated questioningly. Her parents most likely, and possibly some siblings as well. Or a herd, perhaps?
Gamma watched Alyssa dart off after she finished speaking to grab more peaches. Did she not like speaking of her past, or was it simply a convenient time to go and do the task? He happily ate one of the peaches she placed in front of him before looking up at her again to ask another question. "Is there... something you wanted to ask me? You seemed puzzled before." He was extremely curious about Alyssa now. Part of it was her personality, but he had also never been so stunned just by looking at another Azrein before...

Alyssa nodded at his question. "Yeah I used to have a herd when I was younger." She wasn't sure if he wanted to hear about her past or not. She moved her head and the flower she always wore was visible. She continued to watch him. He was starting to look much better far less out of it. And his gaze seemed more direct and focused. It was good she was very pleased that she was able to help him out so much. That always pleased her when she could help people. And he had looked like he needed a lot of help. Still looked like it but she didn't know if he would be ok with her helping him out. Or even offering to help.
She smiled a him as she got back from grabbing his fruit. She didn't mind if he asked her more about her family. But she had needed to get him his peaches. And that had seemed like the perfect moment. She giggled as he ate a peach so happily. It was just too cute. Her eyes widened a bit at his direct question and she smiled sweetly. "Yeah there are a lot of things I would love to ask you but I just didn't want you to think I was prying or anything like that. So I thought it would be better to let you ask the questions for a while. But I was wondering earlier why you looked so stunned when you looked at me?" she shrugged and smiled at him. She was really curious why he ha had been stunned. She didn't know what she had done that was so stunning so it would have had to have been her looks that had so stunned him.

"I see." A herd, huh? He wondered what it was like? There had been his mother and his eldest brother, but with a few, brief exceptions, that had been the only company he kept until Kadenza had led him to Beta. Perhaps it was similar to Beta's adoptive family, except more mobile.
Gamma nodded his understanding of Alyssa's explanation to her hesitance, a little grateful. She was considerate, much more so than many others he had come into contact with. Her question made him blink a few times, a pink undertone slowly spreading across the green like pink blossoms. "Because you're the first Azrein I've ever met that I couldn't tear my gaze away from," he replied, feeling a bit awkward admitting this despite the honesty of his words. "You're the most beautiful mare I've ever seen. For a moment, I thought my mind was playing tricks on me." But his eyes were clearer now, and they confirmed his original conclusion: she was indescribably beautiful.
