******** was off tonight. He could feel it in his core. He wasn't able to close his eyes to recharge, sleep, whatever you wanted to call it. Bass couldn't relax. Something was keeping him awake and that was one of the most irritating things about his day so far. He supposed that could be good news... It meant he wasn't worried about an uprising or Wily giving him stupid color fur (besides the pink heart on his a**, damn it). It meant... he was thinking. His mind was whirling, replaying what he could remember. A blast, being sent backwards. Then waking up and his voice box being messed up, Proto messed up more than him. Blind, one arm, fur missing. He'd gotten to see Proto's eyes, though. Probably for the first time. He didn't say anything about it, because he would close them, but Proto had some seriously pretty eyes. ....Wait. Just as he was about to correct that though, the tell-tale scraping of Proto wandering to his bed hit his ears and Bass shuffled, pulling a pillow over his hair. He didn't have his helmet on, or his armor, so he was seriously feeling.. naked. Practically was. In boxers, basically. Swallowing a bit, he looked over when the scraping stopped and saw Proto basically staring at him, trying to figure out how to get in bed without waking him up, maybe. With no noise, Bass sat up and tugged Proto down on the bed, just being careful of his arm. He tugged the other bot against him, face pressed into Proto's hair and just took a deep breath. One hand moved up to stoke the spot on Proto's head he'd hit with a wrench earlier, almost as if he was apologizing. "...You're alright, a*****e." It just seemed plausible Proto was remembering what happened to him. He never really talked about it, but every once in a while, Proto let it effect him.

Proto wasn't sure exactly what he had expected when he wandered his way closer to Bass' bed. All he knew was that the nightmares his memory banks kept drawing up were rattling him, and for once he really didn't want to feel so lonely. Maybe just being closer would help? He could pull his cot over, or curl up on the floor or...anything really. Whatever was necessary to kill the ache in his core.
It was but a moment later that the other moved and Proto suddenly found himself tugged into bed and in a very protective embrace. At first he tensed up...but as Bass pressed against him and smoothed the fur where the wrench had struck him earlier Proto relaxed. ...Fully relaxed.
This was about as nice as Bass had ever been to him. It was...touching.
"...You're alright too." No insult....rather unlike him. Yes, he was definitely recalling his past. It haunted him often but not usually as bad as it was this particular evening. Behind his sunglasses Proto shut his eyes, just letting himself sink into the other's embrace.

Protective? It could be called that. He continued to smooth down the other's fur and hair, petting him in a sense. Bass shifted a little and got comfortable with Proto against him, not loosening up, not letting go. Now this was... going to be a thing that he wasn't going to ******** up. A little... tenderness, as it were. Soft touches, whispered words.
If anyone ever said anything about tonight, Bass would completely deny it and throw s**t at them and beat the ever living hell out of them. Sighing quietly, he nosed into Proto's hair again and then stared a moment before kissing that spot he'd been petting.
More of an apology that would never be said out loud.
"Yeah? Good because... this is all you get."
Not entirely true. Right now, Proto could ask for anything and probably get it.

This was all very strange. Not in an unpleasant way either. He just wasn't used to anything besides fighting, arguing, pain, that sort of thing. Tenderness? Care? What the hell -was- this?
Whatever, it was nice. The fur smoothing, hair petting...
...Was that a kiss?
For the moment Proto seemed content with this being 'all that he got'. He was quiet, perhaps he had drifted back to recharge? ....
No, he was just thinking. "...Bass. If....if it ever came to it. You wouldn't let me die would you?" And there it was, the other thing that Proto was terrified of beyond being reprogrammed. He had been 'born' fearless, but that stand had shaken his nerve. He would still fight for what he believed in, but the fear of being overwhelmed and ended this time was very real.
His words were quiet, whispered into the scarf he wore even during recharge. The metallic voice Proto spoke with cracked a little on the word die.

That... kiss had surprised him too, but Bass was glad Proto didn't comment on it. He would have hit him. Always with the violence but it was honestly in his programming OK? OK. But Proto seemed to be drifting to recharing and Bass was settling down to do the same until..
Well that was a wake up call. Bass flicked green eyes to Proto and he clicked his tongue as he thought. Slowly, he pulled Proto onto his chest, chest to chest and stroked down his back. "...Nah, not die. Suffer, maybe, but I wouldn't let you die." He was trying to be nice. "...Seriously though? I couldn't let you die. Wily... Wily and I would repair you, even get Light if we had to."
Maybe. It definitely seemed like something he would do. Proto was ...a comrade. A friend, some odd mix of emotion was involved and Bass didn't know what to call it but there it was. "...You'd be back before you knew you were offline for a short time." His own words were strained as he talked, as if his voice was tight, like sometimes the fleshbags did when talking about difficult subjects. If Proto died, who would he have, really?

Proto was limp as the other dragged him around. Usually defensive, for now he was just...going to give in and let Bass move him around at will. There was something almost relieving about letting go and letting someone else be in control for a while. Besides, he was safe, no need to close himself off to the world.
For now, at least.
"I like to think I've suffered enough in this City." There it was, he was finally going to talk about it. Or at least comment, should Bass want to continue that conversation he would as well. For the moment though, he let out the softest purr at the strokes down his back.
At the mention of Light his ears flattened back. Stupid..blue..ears. Light, his father. He hadn't seen him since that day. Idly, he wondered how he was doing.... Maybe. ....Maybe he'd give in and go to -him- for the memory repairs he needed.
But not tonight. Not yet.
Bass' words were touching, even if they were laced with not the nicest of phrases. Whatever, this was -Bass- they were talking about and this was scary nice for him.
"I wouldn't let you die either. I....like being around you." It was the first time he'd admit it. Perhaps the last as well.

"...Not so bad being around you."
Yeah it was one of those I will murder you where you stand if you ever admit to anyone, but for tonight, in this moment in the tower, in Bass's room.. it was honest. That little purr Proto gave him made him feel stupid and smiley and he hid it away as he pushed his face into Proto's stupid hair. He tilted his head to he side after a moment to bite at one of those blue ears, tugging it, a lot more gentle han if this would be any other time.
"Suffered enough, eh? Come on, Blues." He nudged the other, his knee to Proto's waist, wanting him to keep talking. Maybe that was a big reason Proto was rattled, he didn't lat anyone know about what happened other than he nearly died. He knew that much. He'd come online shortly after Proto came back, so he was... still new, basically. Still, Bass's tail came around to rest against the other's legs, covering him up as he got situated.

Oh, Proto would never breathe a word of this to anyone. The comments he'd have to endure would be terrible. Really, the fact that him and Bass were sharing this time together....that was enough. One person caring about him this much more than he had ever expected.
His free ear flicked around, the other a little occupied with being gnawed on. It wasn't entirely unpleasant, and not nearly as rough as other times Bass had focused attention on his ears. They seemed to be a frequent source of amusement for the other Audio, something about them being...tiny. And now they were blue.
Speaking of blue, Proto wasn't sure how to react to his name. It wasn't something that anyone really called him these days, and usually when they did he replied with snark. But....well he didn't even -correct- Bass this time. Even with the nudging he stayed silent, seemingly clamming up on the subject for the millionth time.
Then all at once it started to spill out. "I don't understand them. They wanted change, they wanted hope. I was that for them. Father told me I was their light in the darkness. That their will was strong but their flesh weak. They just needed someone strong to lead their charge and change would -come-. They followed me, you know, all the way to Wily's doorstep. They surrounded the area and watched the fight. It was the entire army Bass. Every last sniper and Master that was activated was out there and in that battle. And you know who opposed them? Was it this entire City? The Citizens who cried for change? No....it was me Alone."
Proto's voice had cracked several times. The absolute pain he felt about the memory evident in his voice. He had been a young robot so full of fight and hope. Change was something he was willing to pour his all into.
"I fought, you know. Long. Hard. Took out quite a few, injured still more. I fought tooth and nail to dismantle that army like my programming told me to do. But when my energy ran low and I fell...they simply turned their backs on me and left me to die. They don't want change. They want martyrs. I'm not willing to be that again. I don't -want- to spend a year in and out of stasis on Wily's lab table. I don't -want- to fear that at any moment I could wake up as someone not me. And I never want to feel that surrounded ever again." Even situations such as being in the break room with more and more robot masters piling in set Proto on edge. It was simply too reminiscent of being surrounded in battle.
Proto curled slightly in his spot, trying to hide from the painful memories of his past.

Proto spoke and the bot under him did nothing to interrupt. He stroked the other's back again and just let his face go into a neutral position least he give away how he was feeling. Proto never talked about this, not once before this. Hints, maybe, but this much from the red bot was rare. He just tucked Proto under his chin and took a deep breath and just held him tighter.
So the humans... he'd come to respect, those people the weaklings left Proto there to die at the hands of the oppressors. They didn't want change. Not from the way it sounded. It clashed with what he knew. Humans made bots. Humans... were generally kind, they stood against what they thought was wrong. At least, that's what he remembered. Before...
Bass stayed extremely quiet as he processed, fingers twitching now and then so Proto would know he didn't drift to recharge.
All at once Bass just crushed Proto against him and snorted.
"You won't go alone."

See, his feelings on citizens were so...conflicted. His programming still told him to help them, and sometimes he did! But only those who had proven they could stand for themselves. Screw the rest of them. Damned stupid citizens.
Proto was slightly startled by the sudden crushing, his body jerking a bit out of it's relaxed state. What in the hell?! This night had been full of unexpected things, but that move had managed to full startle him.
Those...words though. "Thank you." And he meant it too. For all the attitude he toted around and the amount of times he said he would be fine alone Proto ached for someone that cared to stand with him.

Stand with him? Yes. Bass would be there. Hope wouldn't be Alone in this.
Hope was his and he'd be damned if he was going to let anyone kill him. Bass's arms relaxed a bit and he just stayed that way, staring at the wall again as he continued to think on this, to try to sort out his feelings.
Proto was definitely complicating things. ..Maybe not in a bad way but the complications were glaring red at him. The fingers danced over Proto's back, down his good arm and then he clicked his teeth after a long moment of silence. "...Hey. Look up." Only when Proto did that did he pull down that mask over his face and he pressed a kiss to the other's lips. A quick peck. Then that mask was back on and he forcefully tucked Proto's head back under his chin so he didn't have to deal with the other looking at him.
Stupid pretty eyed ********. There was that thought again.
"Shut up."

Oh, Proto had looked up when Bass asked him to, and the sudden kiss to his lips had.....well s**t he had no idea how to react to that. He didn't get a chance to react either, since soon enough he was forced back under Bass' chin.
Um...o-okay. This was all very confusing, and...and... ....well hrm.
Pretty eyes huh? Well, Proto was moving to do something else he very rarely did. The bot shifted around enough to remove his sunglasses from his face and drop them off the side of the bed. They landed on his cot...and honestly he might regret that in the morning if the damn lights came back on. But for now it was nice to be free of them. Another mental shield he had put up between himself and the world.
He did have rather nice neon blue eyes.
That done, he settled back on the other and offered another soft purr. Shut up? Nah. Not fully.

At least it was purring and not talking. That was okay. Proto basically stripped himself bare by removing his glasses and Bass just curled closer, let his tail curl tighter around the other and he took a deep breath before just letting out his own purr.
That was a first, purring. It was odd, more like a low rattling, like a bolt was loose. Not quite as nice as Proto's.
Where the heck were these thoughts coming from and could they please go away? His ears flattened against blond hair and he just rolled his eyes a bit more. Bass let his fingers dance on the other's fur again, then pet through the back of his hair and was glad the sharp glasses weren't digging into him now. Far be it for him to complain about it at first. Proto looked like he'd gotten hit by a rocket.
...Oh wait.

Blue ears perked a bit as the purr came from the other. ....Well, there was a noise he never thought he'd hear. Look at that, Bass could purr. Hell Bass was capable of a lot of things Proto hadn't thought possible. All this time all he thought the other was good for was fighting and cursing. And curse fighting. Yes.
As for not being as nice...the purr warmed his insides. ...No really, perhaps for flesh and blood Audio it'd be heart warming? But for him it caused his internals to heat up a bit. It...was rather nice actually. Proto wouldn't be opposed to hearing that low rattling more often.
And it wasn't -his- fault he had to wear those glasses. Blame his father for making his eyes sensitive. He was sure there was some kind of reason for it. Perhaps it was so he could see better in dark places, since back then mine work had been quite popular? Or...well maybe Light has just messed up, who knew. There were parts of Proto that were far from perfect after all.
"...I'm so tired Bass." It was likely his co-general could feel his body fully relaxing again. Honestly, he just didn't have the energy to do...anything. "Sometimes it's so hard to recharge...I think something is wrong with my core. But my core is me, I don't want it changed."
Damnit, Bass had told him to shut up. He just wasn't ready to do that just yet.

See, if any of that was said out loud, Bass would roll over and squish Proto out of spite. But since it wasn't, he was unaware of the warming of anything and he just continued on, attempting to let himself drift to that prime charging state.
That voice drifted to his ears again and one eye cracked open to stare down at the other before sighing. ".... You think to much. Just stop thinking when it's time to charge." His voice was thicker, sleepy sounding, and the purr still came after he stopped talking, so it wasn't like he was mad or anything. Proto didn't know the meaning of the words shut up. "...Just stay here. Stay and charge. I'm not going out tomorrow. Too low to do anything." He murmured.
Nope the plan tomorrow as stay here, eat some E-pops, charge, do more e-pop eating, nap, maybe clean his room. But he wasn't leaving the tower. Telling Proto to stay here was his way of inviting him to join him. The room did stay dark until he got off his a** and opened a curtain, but he wasn't ready to face the sun or judgmental sky yet. He wanted to stay in his dark, cool room away from others outside the Tower.
Maybe Bubble would join them with E-Tanks. That'd be nice.
