Carneli SORRYYYYYYYY *Flies into wall* Emily was entirely thrilled Cas called to ask to do something. Stupidly so - so she opted to hang out on a night her family would be out of the house or wouldn't mind if she was, and Emily was practically trying not to vibrate internally in her excitement as she changed to go out, throwing on a comfortable pair of old, dingy jeans that looked permanently stained, boots, and one of her more relaxed, dorky tees (Specifically 'Have you tried turning it off and then back on?', but she didn't want to hear computer help if she ran into someone else she knew), and she practically flew about, getting her piercings' jewelry in, and throwing on some gunmetal lipstick before hurrying out the door to the movie theatrer. It was a nice night, and emily enjoyed the coolness of summer and the calm of the evening as she walked along, beaming cheerfully. After all, it wasn't often she got to do things with friends in person, so the change of pace was nice. Hopefully she wasn't late, though.

Cas wasn’t sure when the last time he’d been to the movies was, but he didn’t object until the 11th hour when he realized he didn’t even know what was playing. What was he going to say? What was he going to wear? Normally the fact he went about his daily life in threadbare hand-me-down and out of style jeans didn’t bother him so much but the thought of having to exist relatively near someone who he wanted to be friends with suddenly put his awareness of his appearance on overdrive.
His hair was overgrown, he noticed just before leaving, but it wasn’t like he could go get a haircut now! But then every detail weighed on his mind as he walked to meet Emily. Pop culture knowledge, his appearance, his gait, everything was a detail that wasn’t up to snuff and was sure to be noticed and an embarrassing mark on his social record for all eternity.
Such was the common thought process of Cassidy Bresner, and his insecure self image permeated every mannerism as he approached with his usual hunched posture and resting race that looked like half a grimace.
“Ah… hey,” He managed, raising one hand in greeting when he spotted Emily.

If Emily knew half of Cas' fears, she would have pulled him to her right then, hugged him tightly, and assured him that his looks didn't matter to her; his pop culture knowledge she'd be glad to help with - and the rest? She didn't care. and any 'no thank you' would earn a pout but quiet acceptance. But then, he, in her mind, was one of hers, one of the precious few she knew outside the home that she trusted and felt comfortable with without having to posture. Many called her Albert's daughter for that alone. She would argue, but it was truth, and when Cas approached, Emily lit up brightly and run over, hugging him tightly. Part of her, admittedly, was scared he wouldn't show. He was gone and missing, after all, for so long - and now he was here, hanging out, doing something fun, and she was thoroughly thrilled just seeing him, and the girl beamed, almost squirming in delight. "Hey, how are you?" She said, almost vibrating in excitement. He was here! her day was made.

Cas did his best not to flinch when he was greeted with a hug, but focusing al of his will into not jumping or fleeing just resulted in standing there, very stiffly and uncomfortably for a hesitant moment before he did his best to try to reciprocate the gesture. It wasn’t out of dislike for her hugs, but Cas didn’t do well with sudden, physical contact. His world had been a myriad of violence and awfulness in the recent years, Emily’s sudden forward and friendly behavior triggered instinctual defenses.
Warmth in his chest settled in at her efforts and he managed a weak smile as he pulled back. “Hey.”
He looked up at the theater they were standing outside, watching titles scroll by on the sign and his face twisted in mild worry and confusion. “What are we going to see?”

Emily beamed, rubbing his back affectionately before breaking it off, turning to look up at the marquee, contemplating an answer calmly. "I'm not sure." She admitted. "Most movies lately have been a fifty-fifty shot."

“Ah… fifty-fifty shot? What do you mean?” Cas was not exactly a connoisseur of media lately, or really at all in years. Movies were two hours sucked out of your life where you sat quietly and waited for it to be over. He didn’t find childish excitement in fantasy adventure and superheroes anymore, and he hadn’t for a long time. The media consumption was just a feeble attempt to appear normal a his life had taken depressing and dangerous downturns.
“I-I… um… have you already seen most things playing?” At the very least he didn’t want her to die of boredom.

"No, but either they suck, or they're watchable." Emily admitted, somewhat embarrassingly. "I haven't heard much lately, though. One of the guys doing movie night online flipped his s**t and handed me the job." Wren seemed visibly and surprisingly uncomfortable with this. "I mean, showboating is fun, but the responsibility is surprising. That said, though, this one might be okay." Emily indicated a movie, sighing. "No bad reviews. Not an action film or anything though, so it's probably a romantic comedy... There's also apparently a movie about aliens. Again. And Bay's fourth film, but there's people saying Bay went off the deep end into the magical land of ******** and you."

“Job?” Cas blinked with all the displayed mental understanding of a zombie. Even in all his isolation, he did spend a lot of time on the internet once doing absolutely nothing. He grasped enough of how it worked to know she was probably referring to a webshow or a blog, but the reminder people their age did stuff like that was like a shock of cold water to his face. A hobby style job or responsibility that had no place in his world anymore and seemed to make such foreign sense to him now, especially knowing that somewhere once upon a time he had been a stupid but voraciously avid webcomic artist with weekly updates and everything.
Worse, she seemed to change moods when she talked about it, and he stiffly put his hands in his pockets and raised his shoulders as his eyes darted in the opposite direction. He felt like he should say something to her, but had no idea what. The urges to be comforting and optimistic were but the ability had left him a long time ago.
“No romance,” He ended up snapping back to attention to say, and then regretted it pretty quickly when she seemed to express distaste for the other options where the romantic comedy seemed to have gotten relative indifference. “I-... I mean, uh…” He could feel the heat rising in his dark complexion. “I mean unless you want to.”

"Yeah, I got handed off Moivie night. I've been trying to spam the Marvel movies." Emily shrugged, smiling a little to Cas. His distaste for Romance and romantic comedy was not amiss, and she shrugged. "No problem. Mmmm. Think there's something funny playing?" She asked sheepishly. "I mean.... Yeah. I know we'll agree on something!" She was positive!...Mostly. If but a little shy about it.

Cas stuffed his hands into his pockets and stood there stiffly. He could sense the nervousness, but he was the last person on earth to know what to say about it.
He glanced around at several points in the concrete and then leaned to the side, lightly nudging her shoulder with his.
"Then you clearly know more about this stuff than me," He said with a forced laugh that just reeked of its own brand of nervousness.
"So... I'll just trust you judgement."

Emily nodded before thinking, then motioned. "There's a monster movie?" Which was usually at least entertaining for a chuckle. But most kaiju films were.... Corny. "And we could try the actiuon flick. We never know."

"Yeah, the monster movie," Cas jumped on the suggestion and pointed to the title.
It was okay now that she had suggested it, but he was more than willing. A small, tiny little part of him would eternally withstand Chaos poisoning and that tiny part of him still had a soft spot for cheese.
"Come on, let's get tickets."

Emily beamed, following Cas eagerly towards the box office, a wide grin on her face. Cheesy movies were so fun, and she was incredibly glad they found something. "We need popcorn too. And sodas!" She offered up.A good monster film called for popcorn, mostly, because if it was weird enough you partly shut down enjoying it and getting absorbed. Popcorn completed the experience. Emily didn't know how, but it did. Besides, popcorn was plain tasty too.
