It wasn't the first time that such a thing happened. Here is was, standing right before the space of an alleyway, hardly large enough for him to spread his arms out wide. But he wasn't looking into it. No, he was looking up, up at the space that separated them both. This was a new area to him, a new place with new things to jump off of, new things to experience. Before he could do new things, however, he needed to analyze what the situation was. As eager as he was, as excited and giddy and ready to do this as he was, he wasn't about to do things stupidly.
But yes, he was in the way. More than just a few people bumped into him, cursing at the bizarre, raggedy young man, who just stood there, looking up and nodding to himself ever so often.
"The timing.. The distance.. Yes... Yes.."

Dominic was working through his latest cube without too much trouble, even whistling the Jeopardy tune to try and make things more "intense" as he puzzled his way down the road. His peripheral vision was pretty good so he was able to dodge most oncoming people-traffic, but for some odd reason he didn't see the guy just kind of...standing there, facing an alleyway. Maybe because he'd registered the figure as something else? Or maybe because he just managed to not really notice the guy because he'd chosen that exact moment to full concentrate on his puzzle?
All the same, it wasn't long before Dominic accidentally bumped into whoever it was, eliciting a short grunt and a step back, confusion written all over the 19-year-old's face even as he tried to apologize.
The other's intense gaze into the alley caught his curiosity, though, and with scrunched brows he tried to look in the general direction that he was. "So what are we starin' at?" he soon thought to ask when he caught sight of...well, nothing of note.

The little bump the guy gave him wasn't that bad; it hardly caused Marot to tear his gaze downwards to face him. There wasn't any shouting from it, so he didn't have to pay attention. A little muttered sorry was always best since people tended to want to leave the bizzare young man alone. No one wants to mess with those who seemed a little more than out of place. Atleast he wasn't begging. He knew those people REALLY hated begging. Not that he ever begged, nope, how could he take from people?!
The kid standing next to him was new, though. No one really ever stopped to look with him. No one completely random atleast! Such a curious thing deserved to be given a bit more attention so after what seemed like forever, Marot looked down at the guy, grinning at him.
"It's a space. A little space. Big enough to walk through, small enough to be easy to jump. That little space right there, between the buildings is what I stair at. These buildings are a good distance. I am going to jump it. Jump not fall, yes, jump between them. Because I like to run and do stuff like that, so I want to make sure it's safe. Well, no, never one hundred percent safe, but safe enough. I'mma do it. "

It seemed to take forever for the other guy to finally take notice of him, but Dominic didn't particularly mind. He took it as a challenge to find whatever it was the two of them were supposed to be looking at on his own and without any hints. When he was finally spoken to, though, and told what was so interesting about that particular spot in the alley, his expression fell. Only slightly, but it did.
For all of a second.
When he finally found the space this guy was talking about, he tried to see someone jumping it. Sure, it was probably cake if he were Ashur, but right then he wasn't and this other guy wasn't currently powered up, if he were among that group of individuals. Not that Dominic knew, but then.. well, he hardly knew any knights or senshi as civilians anyway. It wouldn't surprise him if this guy was one of them, that's all. In any case, as a civilian? He wasn't likely to make the jump...
"I'm guessing you do this kind of thing often, then?" the man finally thought to ask. "Can I help at all? Maybe I can video tape it and you can throw it up on the internet for people to see and give you the props you deserve if you make that." The alternative was....more grim, but hey.
"Name's Dominic, by the way."

"It is not that bad, no, not that bad. we can do it. Yes, it is not bad. Even like this, we can do it." He smiled at the boy beside him. He was younger, wasn't he? A kid. Not a kid kid, not a baby like little Massalia, but younger than he was. That was okay! He loved all sorts of people.
"I do, I do it, I love it. To be free, to run, it is my fun. It is like flying but not flying. I get hurt sometimes, but this, this is easy, yes! I am not stupid!" Not that anyone called him that. Well, yes they called him that sometimes, but not for that reason.
"You can help, you can do it too! It is not dangerous. No, it IS dangerous, but you will not get hurt. Because I am not stupid,we do tests, we see how it goes, THEN we jump. We know how wide this is, right?" Marot held his arms out wide, feeling the walls with his finger tips. "We make a mini version, then we test it, THEN we jump. Not just jump, but make a whole course! A nice long jump! Do you jump too? Oh, names.. Yes, names, My name is Marot. Mar-oh. I like Dominic. It is a good name, A wonderful name!"

Conversation with this guy seemed a bit less conventional, Dom thought in passing. His way of talking was certainly different, but much more interesting. Dominic listened, occasionally glanced over and gave the guy a look of skepticism, before looking back up at the gap between the buildings. "Jumping off of roofs is safe, huh?" was what came out of him next, though it was said without any sort of malice. Just...caution with subdued curiosity. "Can't say I've ever tried that," as Dominic, "but if you're alright with me tagging along then I say 'hell yeah'!"
A~and caution went right out the window.
Dominic gave Marot a clap on the shoulder, his sign of thanks for the invite, and grinned widely at the idea of actually doing something like this as a civilian. No powers. No extras. Just him and his penchant for trying new things. "Good to meet you, man. So." Going past his odd speech pattern and the compliment about his name -- Dominic had his own opinions about that, none of which he thought would be very relevant to the current conversation -- the youth tried to wrap his head around the whole idea that was just presented by his new acquaintance.
"Mini version? As in.. something closer to the ground?" Not a bad idea, he thought; it probably do much to help the nerves, but it'd be reassuring if he did make it across a gap that wide. "And course? Like.. with other jumps?"
That...might be a bad idea.

The slap on the shoulder was a surprise! No one liked to touch him, ever. He was gross and smelled but this kid was awesome! Just being friendly, fantastic man, he was! And with the question about the thing, the testing, he nodded, pointing further down the alley.
"We take stuff, random stuff, any stuff, and build it up higher. Like.. To here." He took his hand, putting it beside his knee. "Then we try to jump. Back and forth again and again. We test, and we try and if we get it all the times, then we are good! Fantastic. But we need to build it first! So you will help to build to test, right?"

Again, Dominic listened, always the eager participant when it came to new things. That's how he got led down an alley some time ago, though that time it definitely had a bit more of a malicious atmosphere. This time, though, with this guy? He seemed harmless. Just...excited, maybe? His blue gaze flickered from the gap to where Marot was pointing, then to Marot when he started to explain. When it seemed he was done, Dominic nodded along.
"Alright, I can see that being kinda...helpful..." he admitted and glanced back down the alley. "Wouldn't hurt as much to try just that far off the ground, so yeah, I'll help! Just lead the way."
The youth then shoved the cube he had in his hands into his backpack and started walking to where Marot had pointed. "So we find stuff, you said? Like plywood or something?"

"Mhm, Plywood. And.. those things. Those things they put things on.. Flat and square. And made of wood, of boards. They put things on them.. Um.. Pallets! They put pallets on them. Or they ARE the pallets. I do not know. But the stores, the big stores nearby? They have lots and they don't care. Just this way!" Excitedly he turned on his heel, heading into the ally. Where they were was right next to a rather large grocery store. All they needed was right there.
And just like Marot said, there were plenty of things available to step on, crates and palette steps. He went to work, stacking them up, making sure they were stable enough for his weight. He wasn't sure about the other guy though.. He was shorter, but was he heavier? Sometimes people were like that.
"Come on, you stack on that side. And I got this side.. Okay? Yes, good!"

Dom nodded along, not entirely sure what the other was talking about but trusting the fact that he'd done this enough times to know what it is they needed when he saw it. The two of them walked down the alley some, much to Dom's discomfort (courtesy of a certain incident when he was a lot more naive and had more of a tendency to throw caution to the wind), before they came upon the side of a grocery store. Lo and behold, Marot did indeed announce when he saw exactly what they needed.
The guy didn't waste any time, either, and got right to stacking. Crate and palettes, as he called them, and whatever else was around that looked good for stacking. Upon instruction, Dominic did the same, occasionally testing to see if it could hold his weight. So far so good, he noted, glad for once that his dad had forced him to exercise and lose all that weight when he was younger.
"So!" he said suddenly, more to interrupt that thought than anything else, and dusted off his hands. "How's that?"

Now Marot was standing on top of his little tower, jumping up and down on it a few times to make sure there was enough support there for him. When It checked out, he waited until his new friend was done with his, and then took a good few spaces back. heading back further and further until he almost had to shout for Dom to hear him.
"That's good. Perfect! Now... Watch out, okay?" His hand waved back in forth, trying to make sure that Dom was nice and out of the way. When he got the clear, he bolted, running as fast as his thin little legs could carry him, stepping up onto the crates and leaping across it as easily as if it were only a few inches apart.
"I knew it! I knew, I saw, I see, Do you see? Yes, it's easy! You can do it too. See, See that, I jumped way way far, father than we need to! We can do it, we can make it, so you try, we try many times. Like.. Like twenty times, and then we do it for real." With a bigger bounce in his step than before, he moved over to the side of the little set up, making sure that Dom had enough room to go run and jump if he wanted to.
"You must try now. You must try, and win!"

Their method to check the makeshift structure's stability was probably bordering on questionably dangerous, yet Dom couldn't help but give a bit of a laugh as he followed his companion's example and jumped up and down on his own little tower once it looked about as high as Marot's. When he deemed it stable enough, he looked over and gave a thumb's up before moving aside as instructed, not intending to be a roadblock to his new friend when he jumped.
"Think I'm far enough?" he asked, then his eyes widened when he saw that Marot had already bolted toward him. Dominic made sure to stay a good distance back from where he estimated the other would land, then whistled low and raised his brows when Marot stuck the landing. Clearly, he was impressed. He approached as the guy was cheering, grinning wide and forcing his nerves down as best he could as he gave the guy another clap on the back. "You did, yeah. I hope I can do the same," he laughed, then started readying himself as well.
The youth looked across to where he was supposed to land, the nerves he had been trying convince himself he didn't have surfacing and rearing its ugly heads as he took a few deep, measured breaths. No use psyching himself out, he thought, so he crouch slightly and counted down from three. And then he, too, bolted toward the makeshift ledge. Thankfully he had a runner's build, so he was able to accelerate quickly enough, giving him the right amount of momentum as he stepped up onto his tower and propelled himself to the other side.
He didn't quite stick the landing, but he did make it across and well past the little stack of crates that Marot had made...much to his genuine surprise. Dominic looked across and over at Marot, his breathing heavy -- adrenaline and nerves and all -- grinning wide and rather stupidly. "Again?" he asked, excitement evident in his tone of voice.

"OH! OH OH OH! See! See that right there! You did it! You did it and I knew you could! See, that was fantastic! You're fantastic! Great job, best job! Yes! Yes we have to do it again!" Marot could have jumped right out of his shoes in glee when he saw that the young man was able to leap over the edge. It wasn't that big of a distance, but still, it meant that he would be safe trying the building! But no, no of course not, one jump was never enough! The landing was messy, so messy, so he had to make SURE that the other was able to make it all the way across before they had gone to do it for real.
"Again. Again, and then guess what? Again! We must do it again and again, until you land on your feet, until we don't even have to try! Because then it's natural! Then it WILL be certain, because you know, because you have done it before!" He took a few more steps back thinking for just a moment, considering what advice he could give to the other before he allowed him to try it once more. "You must.. You do not start at that position, the crouch position. No, you start as if you were running from a ways away, because this is not just jumping from building to building, no, it is a full thing, a full course. we start from far side, of street, then make it all the way across the building tops, and THEN the jump!"
He had it all mapped out in his head, but he didn't quite know how to explain it at the moment. What he was thinking.. It was more of a show kinda thing than it was a tell kinda thing.
"You understand, yes?"

Dominic's smile was wider than it had been in recent weeks, courtesy of his own personal problems and such bothersome things, and Marot's excitement only widened it all the more. It'd been a long while since someone actually praised him about anything so plainly and with as much energy as this guy, and the youth truly appreciated it. It might have been a bit much considering making the jump probably wasn't that big a deal, not to mention he didn't even land properly, but all the same it meant...more than Dominic would ever admit.
"Again, you got it!" he said easily as he got into position again, this time on Marot's advice. It...still didn't make a whole lot of sense to him, but the other had been doing this quite a bit longer than him so whatever advice he had to give, Dominic would definitely be taking.
So he ran and jumped again, and again, and again...and again. He didn't even bother keeping track how many times the two of them practiced jumping from one platform to the next, but by the time he needed a break he was landing perfectly. And sweating quite a bit -- it'd been a while since he'd gone running -- but the smile was still on his face. "Think we're ready?" he started to ask, the lifted a hand in a gesture that said that he didn't want an answer yet. "Wait, wait. How 'bout we get some water?" In his mind he was going back to the fact that Marot had said something about a course or...something...which probably meant a lot more running.
He was winded and pretty tired, not to mention thirsty. Marot looked like he could use a drink, too -- at least he did to Dom -- so he hoped his new acquaintance would be alright with a water break before they continued.
