Carlos ran a garage in town that serviced a variety of vehicles, but he loved to tinker with all kinds of gadgets. For that reason, the name of Carlos' Garage had become a bit of a misnomer. Only the regulars knew to bring to him their complicated "problems," but one would think that the extra commissions would keep the shop busy every day, but today was an exception.
Finishing up with one last appointment before lunch, Carlos decided to take a nice long lunch break, starting with baths for his helper pokémon, Oscillée the Reuniclus and Yaima the Vaporeon. Oscillée's telekinetic ability to make her heavy-lifting job mostly hands-off, and Yaima's ability to "melt" into water thus dispelling the grease that saturated her fur, made a bathing them almost unnecessary. Both pokémon would never pass up an opportunity to play in the fragrant water and bubbles, however. Needless to say, it was always a messy sort of clean.
Carlos showered while Oscillée lay down for a nap and Yaima ran up and down the halls. ("I'm drying off! Drying off! Wheeee!") He gladly traded his grease-stained coverall for a comfortable, well-worn pair of jeans and an old t-shirt. Yaima took a flying leap at the backs of his knees when he stepped out of the bathroom, then hopped upon his back howling gleefully. "Let's go to the park! Let's go to the park!" One wouldn't need to speak pokémon to know that she was ready to go.
So here they were. Carlos sat down on a bench with package of poffins and buns for their lunch while Yaima frolicked in the grass, leaving the fragrant scent of flowers trailing behind her. He chuckled to himself and shook his head, set their lunch on the bench beside him, and leaned back to watch.
Having stolen one of Carlos' favorite bandanas, Yaima held it with surprising gentleness between her teeth. It, too, trailed behind her like a flag or a sail. She could hear it whipping past her ear and it elicited a trill of happiness from her throat. Zipping about as quickly as she could manage, she finally leapt into the air-- for a split second feeling as if she might keep ascending, before gravity gripped her with its firm fingers. Disappointment did not crush her mood, however, and she tried again. And again. And again. Her fuel was adrenaline, and those cooling poffins would boost her again. Delicious, bitter berry poffins. If she wasn't careful, she'd start drooling on that bandana.

Lighting and her own trainer/mother/friend, Deanna, had decided to step out for a picnic. They had invited the rest of the family to go with them, but it seemed each of them had something of their own to do. So the two of them had packed up a basket of some of their favorite things to eat and headed to the park. When they got there, they found a spot under a beautiful oak tree and Dea spread out the blanket.
"It is such a beautiful day today, too bad the others couldn't make it. Maybe next time we can convince them to come with us,"Lightning spoke as she helped Dea sit down. She knew her friend was a lot better, but she still could use help from time to time.
"Looks like we are not the only ones enjoying the day,"Dea commented as she pulled out some sandwiches wrapped in foil.

When Yaima's legs had begun to tire from leaping through the air, she focused on tossing the bandana. The effects of gravity upon the square of cloth were fascinating to watch from below. Eventually, the shiny vaporeon tired out and flopped into the grass, panting.
She glanced around the park, seeing several people with their pokémon. She even saw a pokéchild. She was seated upon a picnic blanket with a human beneath an old tree. That looks comfortable! She sniffed the air and thought she could guess the contents of the basket. Sandwiches!
"Yaima! Are you ready to eat? Your poffins are getting cold."
She gave Carlos her attention while she listened to him. The end of her finned tail lifted as she cried, "Por!" Translation for her answer was unnecessary. After glancing once more at the pair beneath the tree, she trotted over to the man seated on the bench and hopped up beside him. Delicious bitter poffins! She couldn't wait. But she sat primly humming to herself while he pulled one out for her, placing it on a napkin.
He reached up and rubbed her head on either side of the dorsal fin. "Enjoy!" Then he pulled out a meat and veggie filled bun for himself. Hm, she had forgotten his bandana in the grass. He'd have to remember to grab it before they left.

Lighting was watching the interaction between a Pokemon and her trainer nearby, it made her smile. She saw the pair was eating and it made her stomach rumble, reminding her she needed to be doing the same. She turned back to where Dea had just pulled out some fruit salad and a bottle of lemonade.
"Mmmm, that all looks delicious, Dea. I can't wait to dig in,"Lightning grinned.
"Well, you can start digging in. I am sure you are hungry too,"Dea replied. Lightning nodded her head as she took one of the sandwiches and unwrapped it, before taking a bite out of it.

The way the bitter berries made her mouth wiggle inside never failed to make her laugh. It was different even from something that tasted sour. Her head bobbled side to side and her tail waved back and forth as she gobbled up her first poffin, careless to any mess she might leave upon her face.
"Hey, take it easy, Yaima," Carlos chuckled. He knew better than to give her the second one so soon, and waited until he had finished his. He liked to eat at a more sedate pace than she.
Meanwhile, she waited, as patiently as possible. "Faster, Carlos. Can't I have it now? I'm being very good and I worked so hard today!" But when he ignored her protests, she finally huffed and glanced away. He could be stubborn beyond all reason. Even if he might be right, on occasion.
Across the field she spied the picnic-goers she had seen earlier, the ones sitting beneath the old tree. Did she lock eyes with the pokémon-child? She was very curious about them! She blinked in surprise, feeling Carlos' hand upon her head once again. She trilled happily and looked up at him.
"Did you meet a new friend out there?"
"Por!" "Yeah!"
"When we're done eating, you should go see them, then."
What a fabulous idea! "Can I please have my poffin, then?" She nudged the bag with her nose.
"All right." He pulled out the poffin for her and set it down like before. Then he pulled out the second bun for himself, and started to eat it.
"Yay!" Promptly, she hunched down as if to eat it, but instead scooped it up and launched off the bench.
"Yaima! What are you doing!"
Well, it became abundantly clear when a moment later she came charging up to the picnic blanket and came to an abrupt stop, tail wagging gently. "Can I join you? I'm Yaima!"

Lighting happened to see the Pokemon look her way and her tail swayed gently, giving a friendly smile.
"Someone seems interested in other things,"Dea teased her friend lightly, a smile on her own face.
"Yeah, just watching that pair over there. They seem like they are having a good time too,"Lightning answered, pouring herself some lemonade and taking a drink, before pouring Dea some. They continued eating, but was surprised when the Pokemon in question had come over and asked if she could join them.
"As long as it is okay with your trainer, you are more than welcome to eat with us. My name is Deanna, but you can call me Dea,"Dea answered. Then realized the other might be surprised that she knew exactly what she had said. If the other asked, she would tell her, though.
"And I'm Lightning. It is nice to meet you, Yaima. Like Dea said, you can definitely stay here to eat,"Lightning piped up.

Yaima's ears and tail drooped a little. That's right, he said I could come after I was done eating. Feeling pangs of guilt, she glanced Carlos' way. When he noticed her eyes on him, he waved to her.
That silly girl, he thought, always getting ahead of herself when she's excited. When he was done eating he would wander over and make sure she wasn't bothering them.
"He seems all right with it," she finally replied, looking up at Deanna. If the shiny vaporeon didn't know any better, she'd swear Dea had known what she was saying word-for-word. But Yaima's question had been obvious enough for anyone to guess.
She sat down on the edge of the blanket, just in case her reply had not been good enough. Deanna seemed to be the authority between the two, so she looked to her for the final say. When she did that, she also set the poffin down gently so as not to make a mess. She turned to Lightning to address her, "It's great to meet both of you, I love meeting new people."

Dea looked over in the man's direction and when he waved to his Pokemon, she also decided that he was alright with it. She turned her attention back to the Vaporeon and her own poke child.
"Yes, he seems okay with it indeed. So you are more than welcome to visit with us a little bit,"Dea spoke gently.
"It is nice to meet you too, Yaima. It is definitely good to make new friends. If you don't mind me asking, what brings you and your trainer out here today? Dea and I decided it would be a nice day for a picnic,"Lightning explained.

Yaima tilted her head inquisitively. That time Deanna had most certainly responded to the vaporeon's language. What an interesting pair, indeed! She decided then not to ask about it, but rather see if she could guess the nature of Dea's ability. It would be a fun game to play with herself. "Thank you. I won't take much of your time. If you two came here for a picnic then you are here to spend time together, like my trainer and I. But we live nearby; if you've heard of Carlos' Garage on the main street, that man over there is Carlos, himself. We will undoubtedly meet again!"
To Lightning she replied, "It really is a great day for a picnic! That was why we decided to come. We finished our appointments for the day and decided to take a long lunch break. We got our food from our favorite bakery." Forever curious, she added, "What kind of sandwiches did you bring?"

Dea and Lightning exchanged glances at the head tilt of Yaima, a smile on Dea's lips. Then they both turned their attention back to Yaima as she spoke to them.
"Oh, no worries at all, you are not taking any time from us at all. There is always time for making friends, at least that's what I believe. And yes, we live near here too, my father is a scientist in the lab near here. I have never had to take my car there, but I believe my mother, Serenity, is one of his customers. I will have to keep that in mind, in case I need to at some point,"Dea replied.
"Yes, the sun is so warm and everything is so beautiful, definitely picnic weather. We decided it would be nice to get out of the house for awhile. Would have been the whole family, but everyone else was busy. Oo, food from the bakery, always a good place to go. I believe Dea packed us some tuna fish, some egg salad, and some peanut butter and jelly. Oh and some ham and swiss cheese, forgot about those,"Lightning answered.

The exchange between the woman and pokémon child was not lost on Yaima. Had they noticed her look? What expression had she made? Did they suppose that she supposed that there could be something profound that others might not notice? Had all of those notices and suppositions tied her brain in knots? Yes, indeed! A trilling laugh rolled up from her chest. They were both now playing her game.
"Oh! I think I know that lab! But I don't know anything about it. What does your father do... if it's not a big secret?" Understandably, she would love to know anyway, but she had plenty of things she needed to do that would be put into jeopardy should she poke her nose into the wrong people's business! "Is she? What does her car look like?" Should anyone ask, she would admit that it was most likely that she recognize the machine before the owner. "We fix all kinds of gadgets, not just vehicles. So you could probably bring any sort of machine to him! I think the only thing Carlos will not fix is a watch or clock. He says their fine-tuning is best suited for a time tinker. I don't really understand; they use gears too, don't they?"
"Yes, I think this is exactly why Carlos wanted to come out today. It is the perfect weather. We didn't actually bring everyone along. Oscillée, a reuniclus, worked particularly hard today so she decided to take a nap instead. It would be nice to bring everyone along, wouldn't it? But making plans can be just as difficult to uphold if the weather takes a turn for the worse." Yaima could think of other things to do during a rain storm that would be just as much fun as enjoying the sunshine. She sniffed the air as Lightning went through their inventory. She could smell all the different sandwiches she listed. "You packed enough for an army! Even so, would you like some of my poffin? It's still warm in the middle. I have to warn you that they are made with bitter berries. Definitely not to everyone's liking, but they'll make special orders like this for their customers. They're my favorite!"

Dea couldn't help it, a gentle laugh escaped her lips at all of Yaima's questions and talking. Somehow, she had a feeling she would feel right at home with this little one.
"Forgive my laugh, you are just reminding me of one of my Poke kids. Maybe one day I should introduce the two of you. My father is a scientist, he studies things about Pokemon. So the phenomenon with Pokemon turning into human like being is very...fascinating to him and he is studying it. Oh my mom drives a sky blue Pontiac, very pretty car. It has a bumper sticker that says 'I heart my family' on it. And ummm, clocks and things have smaller gears, a bit more..delicate,"Dea explained.
"Oh so you have a bigger group too, huh? Well, maybe one day we will get to meet more of each other's families. And yes, it is very nice to be able to make plans, though things can go wrong sometimes. Though, no one said you can't just adjust your plans if that is the case. And we are used to feeding an army..so yes, we are used to having a lot of food. Oh and sure, I wouldn't mind a taste of your poffin. Would you like a sandwich?"Lightning asked.
((Tis not a problem. And awww, she is soo cute. And no worries, as you will see in my post, they are used to dealing with such things lol))
