Sellesion I did notice that. I don't remember ever being informed about the TOS changes, and reading them,is very alarming because all the changes are, are ones that say Gaia reserves the right to terminate the site without warnibg at anytime, and that users will not recieve, and are not entitled to, refunds or compensation of any kind for the money they've spent/will spend here. Its sleezy and worrisome. It feels like once the users stop buying their ridiculous sh**, they'll just turn the site off and call it a day without any warning or regard for us. That's because they're now entitled to not even tell you at all. It even says so in the TOS. A direct quote is included below.
Quote: Gaia reserves the right, at our discretion, to change, update or modify this Privacy Policy and/or our Terms of Service at any time, without specific notice to You. Apparently all of this has been in effect since last years December . . . That's what I was thinking too. It's as if it's our fault that they find it too bothersome to refund or are preparing for the worst.

It's as if it's our fault that they find it too bothersome to refund or are preparing for the worst. Lovely. So they amended it without telling us, to say that they can amend it without telling us. >> Ya know gaia, just cus you 'reserve the right' doesn't make it exactly legal. If someone spent thousands of $$'s on here, I'm sure they wouldn't mind taking gaia to court to dispute a refund if they just shut the site off without any warning. You can't reasonably expect users to re-read the TOS every day just in case you change something, and then quit and stop using the site without question if they have a problem with the TOS changes that are randomly made without any user consent. >> One day there will be a clear set of laws outlining people's rights regarding the internet I hope.
But yeah, I agree. It's like they're blaming the users for something we don't even know we did. And they're just gonna take our money and run. I got an add for 'Tentacl' claiming to be from gaia, using one of my gaian mule user names, in my email the other day. They were 'inviting me' to their 18+ site. Can't believe they named the damn thing Tentacl. >> That implies things more inapropriate than the recent trend of female items lately. And this is a 13+ site. Besides.. an 18+ site rule, isn't going to keep out people under 18 who will just claim to be older.

Basically, yup. I just wonder if this even violate anything in the law or not. Been doing some research, but not much has been found . . . but I'm still looking. "And now for our daily dose of the TOS." How about no. I hope so too, so far, there only seems to be things about copyrighting things rather than any of this business.
The old "you fault, not our problem" situation. Go Gaia. PFFFT HAHAHA GAIA. MUCH FAIL. FAIL FAIL FAAAAAIL. XDDDD "Can't believe they named the damn thing Tentacl . . . implies things more inapropriate . . . 18+ site rule, isn't going to keep out people under 18 who will just claim to be older." <--- THIS. VERY IMPORTANT POINT. What was going on in their hands when they were thinking of the name. Like, seriously?? Just looking at the name and the connotations behind the name makes me cringe. I just looked through the forums just a bit just to see and . . . it literally looks like another tumblr, but with avatars . . .

Yeah, I wonder too. Cyber stuff is still at a difficult point legally. Ya know, things like cyber bullying and stuff. All I've heard of otherwise is copyright stuff- basically working like artistic copy right. 'I made this website and you can't copy it for proffit.. blah blah blah'.
Yeap. Great job Gaia. >> Exactly! Hell, I was 12 when I joined up here. The TOS said something about, "unless you have parental permission" so I showed my non-tech-savvy mom the clean parts of the site and got permission. XD Hell, she even gave me money to donate and buy an MC or two. If young kids want to join that site, they'll just put in a bday that would make them 18. All it does, is make gaia or 'Tentacl' not responsible for inapropriate content they see, and things they may do.
I have honestly no idea what they were thinking with that site, and I have no temptation to join, what-so-ever. I highly doubt it's going to be any more 'mature' like that add tried to play it off as. The avatars really don't look like something I like, and Tumblr is a no-thank-you already. So are other sites like it. There's a reason I don't have Tumblr, Twitter, or Facebook. My choice of social networking was Gaia in say... 2011? >>

It makes one wonder how that stuff actually goes down legally. Especially when one party might be on the other side of the world. Whose laws will the judges follow, the defendant or the prosecuted? That in itself is a complicated thing to even bring up, plus the lack of laws regarding the internet . . . I tried to talk to my dad about the whole buy GC, TOS changes, site shuts down, and he said, "Why should you care about it? It's not your business." and when asked about if I was in a situation where I bought GC & they shut down, "Well, you're stuck." This irritated the hub bub outta me.
The TOS specifically stated that one has to be 13+ with parent permission to join the site, if I'm remembering correctly. This is actually a thing that is stated in the US law. Exactly what is the most troubling thing about websites & age limit things, it doesn't matter. Sites don't second guess the fact what age one puts in the birthday category. As long as you're qualified, you're good.
I have no intention to join either. It just looks like another site to chat & holds a strong resemblance to IMVU (Is that what it was called? The one site with those realistic avis) and Tumblr, smashed into one with a Gaia twist. I highly doubt it either. Like, reaaally doubt it. The fact that it resembles Tumblr doesn't appeal nor repel me at all. The fact they made a new website is the bugger. Tumblr is an okay site, sure it has questionable content (with people claiming that a major part of it is 18+ content), but I stray away from it. Mentioning anything about such content makes me uncomfortable. But even with my ninja dodging skills, such subjects still are able to leak through posts that suggest it. I honestly don't see the point behind Tumblr or Twitter, but I use Tumblr just to find new content or find resources/references. I can honestly say that Gaia was my absolute social networking site ever since I joined, more so when I found you guys, but ever since they started the "Win up to 234785987 billion gold" generators, RIGs, recolors, exclusive items, broken economy, GC items at like 1000 GC, and the crazy 70% OFF!!! *sparkle sparkle, buy buy, cheap cheap* flash sales, I've found myself going on Gaia less and less. Not to also mention the fact the new items have recently forked over towards feminine appealing styles . . . I can't make a decent guy avi anymore . . .
