IC In the depths of the Chibale forest, the elder Alkidikes gathered to discuss their next course of action against Oba. There is great conflict in this meeting, some feel they should take the offensive and make a move on Oba; others say waiting is the right course of action. Ilyra was summoned as one of the Sisters assigned to a pairing. Having received a note with her commands, she would have to meet at the rendezvous point; a camp just north of Neued, Jauhar. Part OneThis was an honor, and one she held very highly. It had taken so long for Briella to agree to allow Ilyra to volunteer, and Ilyra had a good feeling Briella only allowed it because she didn't think that Ilyra would actually be picked. However much to Briella's horror, and Ilyra's glee, she was chosen! She was chosen with a few others to be part of three pairs that were going to scout for information, or items, to help them win the war against the Obans. Today was the day that she set off the the camp, it was north of Neued so it was a little distance from her home tree, but she was certain she would be able to make it in two or three days tops. However on the day that she was set to start heading off, of course Briella made up an excuse for her to have to stay.
Supposedly something happened to Ilyra's bow, so she was set back a day while she waited for Dyakida to to make her a new one. Although it was a day and she was very very angry about it, she figured that she should at least be grateful to live with Dyakida, other wise she might have had to call off the mission all together. After a day of sitting in Dyakida's room and staring at the weapons crafter there was nothing left to keep Ilyra home. She kissed her family good bye and set off, everything she would need packed. From what she understood she wasn't spouse to stay around the Oban's for very long, just enough to get information and get back to the main island. They didn't want to take the risk of any sisters getting caught and kept captive.
As she walked through the forest she wondered who she would be partnered with. She remembered that her aunt had to pair with a halfbreed when she did her quest, maybe Ilyra would get one of those? Personally she hoped it was no one from her past, none of the girls who were young with her and would make fun of her. No that would be no fun at all, than again proving to them that she was the best might even be worth the pain... No, she wanted someone new, someone she had never met. Maybe a male halfbreed was fun, or at the very least someone who wouldn't flirt with her. She was in a happy relationship and didn't want anyone trying to get in the way of that.
It took more time to get there than she thought, and since she was a day late also in leaving she wasn't surprised to be the last sister at the camp. She apologized profusely, though the elder she was talking to wasn't going to have any of. The older woman didn't even talk to her, just pointed to one of the tents.
"Is that where my partner is?" Ilyra asked with a frown. The woman nodded before walking away. Ilyra sighed, well this was off to a horrible start. "This can't get any worse..." she mused out loud as she walked towards the tent. Of course she shouldn't have spoke so soon, because as soon as she opened up the tent doors she found her self looking down at the one person she had hoped to never see again. Her birth mother. At the sight of her birth mother Ilyra's vision slowly faded, until she passed out, falling to the floor.

Part TwoShe wasn't out for long, but Ilyra did wake up to both her birth mother and the other woman standing over her. She had hoped that seeing her birth mother was just a fake, a nightmare, but it was real. Her birth mother was standing there, her partner in this dangerous mission. How could she go into Oban territory with someone that she didn't trust? It was worse than that, it wasn't like she just didn't trust her birth mother, it was much much worse than that. This was the woman who kept her in a cage, that told her she wasn't good enough, that no one would ever accept her and that she was just a freak. No Ilyra was going no where with that woman. "I'm sorry, let me up." she said as she pushed away the hands that were trying to help her. "I'm sorry but I just cannot work with her. I still want to go on the mission. Just not with her." she said as she sat up, sending knives with her eyes towards Amaka. She would not work with her birth mother.
The elder wasn't having it though. She wasn't any happier with Ilyra at this time, if anything she more annoyed with the girls fainting. "No, you go with her or you don't go. And you can go back to the island and explain to the others why you didn't go." with that the elder turned and walked away.
The whole time Amaka had just been standing there, not saying a word. "Great, just great. I should have listened to mom and stayed home..." she said more to herself than anything else.
"I am your mother." Amaka said with a frown, breaking her silence.
"You lost your right to call me that a long time ago, my mother's name is Briella. You are just someone from my past. Someone that I guess I have to do this with." she didn't want to do this, but she wasn't about to go back to the island and tell them that she couldn't do it. No she wanted them to trust her, she had to get over her birth mother's role in the whole thing and just do it.
Amaka didn't bother saying anything else, again she was silent. Ilyra rolled her eyes. "Let's just get on with this." she said before walking out of the tent, Amaka close behind her. "We need to work together, but we don't need to be friends. We are not friends, and we never will be. After this I never want to see you again. Got it?" Ilyra barked as she walked. She looked back long enough to Amaka nod before turning back and looking forward once again.
The two of them went through the forests, being as careful as they could. Finally after what seemed like decades their happened across a camp of Oban's. There seemed to be only two or three of them there, but that would do. "Stay in the trees, hidden. I'll see if I can find anything." Amaka spoke for what seemed like the first time since she called herself Ilyra's mother. Ilyra rolled her eyes but nodded. She preferred the trees anyways. The two split up, Ilyra in the trees and Amaka on the ground. For the most part Ilyra had view of the camp, and of her birth mother.
Time passed, and although Ilyra heard lots of gossip, nothing was said that she could bring back. "Come on, give me something good..." Ilyra whispered as she looked around. Than before she knew it they were jumping up, grabbing their weapons and heading towards an area. In a flash she realized that was where she saw Amaka last! She jumped through the trees following where she assumed Amaka had gone. She saw where the Oban's ran off to, but there was movement to the left of where they went.
As she got closer to the ground she realized that it was her birth mother! Ilyra dropped as fast as she could, there was so much blood. So much blood around the arrow that pierced Amaka. Ilyra shook her head. "No, no..." she said as she cradled her birth mother. Looking at the wound she realized that there was no way that Amaka would servive. She was no healer, She had been learning a little magic, but it was just how to move rock, nothing that would save Amaka.
"Leave me, tell the elders that they are sending out scouts every other day, in small groups. They plan on scattering them all around the forest and than attacking... Go, tell them, make sure everyone knows..." she said as she pushed Ilyra away. Ilyra shook her head. No this wasn't happening. "Go, and my daughter, you will always be my daughter. And I couldn't be more proud of you..." and with that Amaka's eyes closed and Ilyra felt her soul leave her body. Amaka was dead, however the Oban's were still looking for someone and Ilyra could not linger there long. She kissed her birth mother's head before fleeing. She needed to get back to the elders.

Part ThreeIlyra couldn't believe it. The trip back to the islands was a slow one, and a sad one. She couldn't believe what had happened, couldn't believe that her birth mother was now dead... She was dead because she was protecting Ilyra. That changed everything that Ilyra had ever known. Her whole life she hated her birth mother, she saw the woman as a sort of monster keeping her from her potential. But now she knew that wasn't the case. Amaka loved her, her birth mother really did love her, she just didn't know how to show it. She showed it by trying to keep Ilyra safe, in the only way that she knew how... And what did Ilyra do? She went out and left her Amaka, left her and cursed her name to everyone who asked.
Now Ilyra was thinking about all the things she had said, everything she had ever told people about her birth mother. Her childhood hadn't actually been as traumatic as she made it out to be... Maybe she was a little dramatic about the whole thing? She use to think that she was 'escaping' from her house, but the more that she thought about it the more she realized that her mother was the one letting her out the whole time... She wasn't escaping from anywhere. Her mother always knew where she was, other than when she ran away for the last time that was. The elders had told Briella that Amaka went looking for Ilyra and couldn't find her. Maybe Amaka hadn't been such a horrible mother after all.
Although Ilyra didn't regret anything, if she had stayed home with Amaka than she would have never been adopted by Briella and joined her lovely family, she did feel bad for all that she said over the years. Briella was the one who raised her, who was there for her when she needed her, but at the same time it was Amaka that took care of her when she was young. Ilyra always thought that Aisha had done wrong in giving her to her birth mother, but it turns out Aisha wasn't wrong. Ilyra was stupid to question Aisha...
Alone with her thoughts for days she was harder and harder on herself. By the time she got to the islands all she wanted to do was to tell everyone about how Amaka gave her life to save both Ilyra, and to make sure that the information got back to her sisters. Ilyra went right to the elders, prepared to tell them everything. She was given an audience at once.
She bowed, but before she could say even a word one of the elders spoke up. "Welcome back Ilyra, but I thought this was a paired mission? Where is your partner?" she said looking around. Ilyra looked down at the ground. "My partner was Amaka, and although we went together into Oban territory we didn't both make it out sadly. We were able to find out that the Oban's are sending out scouts every other day, in groups of two. They plan on spreading out and than attacking us. Amaka was shot in the process of getting the information." she would let them figure out the rest.
The elders talked it out, and she was soon thanked and allowed to leave. They promised that Amaka's sacrifice would not be in vain. She left, passing by the house she grew up in before heading towards her current home. Right now all she wanted to do was be with Briella, be with her and tell her about Amaka and how she was wrong all this time about her.
