“Gotta bad feelin' about this,” he murmured to himself, continuing his walk. There was no one here, no one to tell him if he as going about this the right way, or even to talk to. Rex tended to talk when he was nervous. He focused on breathing. In. Out. One step in front of the other until he realized he was no longer on stairs, but a room. He squinted, a bit, adjusting to the single flickering light that made his eyes water. His bad feeling hit him harder in the gut and he just rubbed the back of his neck and pushed his hair around as if he could wipe away whatever this feeling was.
This room he was in.. if it had been properly lit it wouldn't be half bad, he though. It looked like it could be fairly cozy, something inviting. Maybe warm, with just a few more torches. Though, this might be a good place to take a nap.
Something glowing caught his eye. A tablet? Or... a few, they were sitting there, winking at him like stars far off in the sky. Just as he got near to touch one, it blacked out and he drew his hand away, hesitant to touch it. “What on earth?”
He took a deep breath and then continued looking over these tablets, turning his body this way and that to look at the blacked out ones. They had some kind of shapes on them, some looked like swords, tridents, even guns, but what did it mean? No one explained anything to him.
Finally, Rex reached out to one of the tablets, stroking it quietly before something whispered in his ear. It sounded like his ear. It wasn't a word, per say. More like an elongated whisper. He tilted his head at that and moved to touch another one, wanting to figure out where it was coming from. The tablet he touched winked out but the whisper was slightly louder. It sounded more like a hiss. He turned around, looking for more tablets, more... maybe a person? Was there a person with him?
“Hey, someone there?” He asked frowning a bit.
Nothing but silence greeted him. Interesting...
So he turned back to the wall of tablets and sighed. “I bet 's ghosts tryin' ta talk ta me,” he drawled taking a step to the side, stroking over more and more as they blacked out under his fingers. The more he walked, the louder that hissing whisper was in his ears and he actually turned to punch the air behind him, as if to disperse whatever it was.
After what seemed like forever of touching these things, he put his hand on one that didn't go out when he touched it. However, when he touched it, the glow seemed to get brighter and something heavy landed in his hand. Heavy and cold.
Opening an eye he didn't know he closed, Rex stared down at the thing in his hand and blinked. “A.. p..pistol?”
Rex stared down at the pistol and let out a yelp, dropping it to the floor. It didn't go off, and he could have sworn the gun grunted.
The pistol was talking to him?! Oh, God, what did he get himself into.
“....Wh...How..?”
“Now, hang on there, little.. ...lady. Why are you talking to me?”
So this was the partner, he guessed. They said he would know when he found out. Sighing, Rex leaned down and picked up the gun again and just sighed. “Well, I guess it's you then? My partner they said I'd get?”
There was silence from the gun, but he was pretty sure he could hear the eye-roll. ...if the gun had eyes that is.
