Breaking into apartments was not a regular activity for Persephone, and a a few weeks ago she certainly wouldn't have imagined that wanting to help Bischofite would inspire her to perform an act of breaking and entering. But the man she'd found in the Rift deserved whatever help she could give him. He had suffered for his betrayal, and suffered more than anyone deserved, as far as she was concerned.

So she was kneeling in front of the door, slowly working with bobby pins and knowledge gained from a Youtube tutorial on how to pick a lock. She was pretty sure this wasn't its intended purpose, but oh well.

There was a soft "click," and she turned the handle and made a small noise of excitement when it opened.

Punching the air was probably not an appropriate reaction to a successful B&E, but she did it anyway, before slipping inside. Now to find sometihng easy to steal, small, and worth bringing back. Something that hopefully the inhabitant of this apartment had contact with.

She had to find a bedroom - that would be her best bet.

A BATTLE FOR THE AGES
PostPosted: Sun Jun 01, 2014 7:37 pm

Faust napped the lazy afternoon away upon his perch - Quenton's pillow, which lay slightly askew on the bed. Often he left deep circles of black fur on its otherwise pristine white surface, yet the owner never seemed to mind. Why should he? They had other troubles to worry about.

He woke to the hitching of the lock and stretched as he stood, muscles rippling. A long yawn came afterward, and he licked his chops while he blinked the sleep away. It felt a little early for Quenton to arrive home, but his injuries likely had something to do with that. But why was he rattling the knob around so damn much? Didn't the fool know how to unlock his own door by now? Faust grunted as he considered Quenton adopting Thraen's form to break in through the tiny balcony beyond the window. It worked better than embarrassing himself with the locks.

Until his senses finally settled in and he felt the overwhelming Chaos aura emanating from the other side.

His hackles raised, and Faust emitted a low growl as he dropped to the floor as silently as possible. Slowly he crept toward the disturbance, stopping short to hide behind the privacy screen separating the kitchenette from the combined living and bedroom space. There he sat, listening, waiting, for the chaotic being on the other side to either give up or finish the job.

Surely enough, the door swung open, and a peek around the privacy screen revealed a remarkably short girl with disturbingly long, green hair. He bristled when his eyes fell on the twin holes - both in chest and in head. It looked like someone shattered the poor senshi, overloaded her with rotten Chaos energy and veritably broke parts of her. Were he the sympathetic sort, he would've offered his condolences. As it was, she stood as an enemy to the cause and a violator of the law.

She deserved to die.

Finally Faust burst out from behind the privacy screen at full speed thanks to carpet offering traction, and he leapt at the last minute with a yowl as the claws came out to rend her asunder. He aimed for the face first - the eyes in particular.

Bischofite had warned her about the cat.

Bischofite had not adequately prepared her for the cat.

At the sound of an angry feline yowl, she threw up her hands to protect her face, which just meant that the claws sank into her arms. "Ow! Jesus!" She yelped, swinging her arm in an effort to throw the cat off. Alright, so she didn't particularly want to hurt an animal that was only protecting its home, but she also didn't want to be scratched up by a vicious, angry cat that was way heavier than any animal had a right to be.

"Get off me, I don't want to hurt you," 'I just want to steal from your owner, that's all.' Not that she expected to get anywhere by talking to a cat, but stranger things had happened to her.

Faust's claws found ample purchase in flesh, but the girl's quick swing sent him hurdling toward the floor. Landing came easily enough; paws found worn carpet and braced for the remainder of his inertia, which was translated into his forward momentum for a second strike. Her claims of disinterest in harm was met with a derisive howl.

Oh, like hell you don't.

In the split second taken to mobilize into a leap, Faust considered using the remembered kitty beam to immobilize his foe long enough to call Thraen. However, such actions would jeopardize Thraen's identity as Quenton far more than any meager good it might do.

Keeping with the original idea, Faust launched toward the blessedly short corrupt once again. This time, he targeted the chest - the gaping hole seemingly shattered into her skin begged investigation through claws. If he could manage a furry paw inside long enough, he might just knock her starseed loose. It stood visible enough as it was; anyone with even rudimentary knowledge of the gems knew that such a display was highly enticing as a quick kill.

Persephone took the opportunity of having the cat off her to start moving towards the back of the apartment, towards where she hoped the bedrooms were, and that turned out to be a mistake. Between her own momentum and the cat's, his weight slamming into her chest took the tiny Corrupt off her feet and sent her slamming back-first into the carpet.

"Oh my god, no, that is not a cat toy!" She flailed, pushing on the cat's face to try to get him off her. At least she was pretty sure he wouldn't actually be able to reach into the hole on her chest, because if he could, well, she could very quickly end up dead.

She started to push herself up, too, and considered how much easier it would be to teleport herself closer to where she needed to be - but she needed to be able to search, so getting the cat out of the way was absolutely critical.

Faust dug furiously at the hole in her chest, yet clawed kitty paws never truly penetrated the abyss. No matter his attempts, they simply slid along some invisible wall blocking him from ending the intruder without further incident. Faust groaned lowly, clearly perturbed by his failure, before the pint-sized corrupt effectively shoved him off by the face. Though he yowled unhappily and attempted another few swats at her hands, he soon discerned that keeping at her wasn't doing much good.

Time for plan B, he thought while growling. He remained hunched low, eyeing the corrupt with a snarl, while he stalked her in her pursuits around the apartment. He knew that the tiny size of Quenton's apartment afforded no privacy for a quick call to other senshi, as it lacked even the walls to clearly identify a single bedroom out of the space. Instead he'd have to keep with the normal feline guise and monitor her sifting until a bite on the ankle proved necessary.

At least he knew how to guide her, in some ways.

For the time being, he had the opportunity to observe a corrupt and the sickening aura that filtered off of her. He knew not why anything so perverse and malignant as a corrupted senshi even existed - it was against their very nature as warriors across the cosmos to harbor such dark energies. Was that why she sported cracks in her features?

Loosing another growl to keep his presence fresh in her mind, the black feline stalked dutifully behind her.

Persephone was glad for the strange magic that protected her starseed, because otherwise she may well have been taken down by an aggressive, mundane cat. A humiliating end, after all she'd been through to get where she was. Once she finally got the cat off her, she made a beeline for anything that looked even vaguely like it might hold potential, eyes flicking back to the cat occasionally.

He was definitely following her, and that was creepy as ********. Goddamn cats.

She started going through the trashcan next to what looked like an art space, and found a discarded sketch, which she put back on the desk to smooth out and then fold. That would do nicely, she hoped - and she considered taking more, but she'd already been assaulted by a cat once. She tucked the folded sketch into the front of her fuku and glanced aorund the apartment, considering for a moment.

Maybe just a little more poking around. Unless the cat attacked again, and then she was going to be out so fast.

Faust growled louder when the corrupted abomination's hand went into the waste bin and retrieved one of the sketches that Quenton finally tossed aside. It held no actual value to the cause, but it still amounted to robbery - and seemed entirely too strange for thieving Negaverse trash to take for monetary reasons. A sketch wasn't worth jack, and who the hell wandered around looting apartments of random s**t when they could be taking TVs or iPods or the like? Either this thief was monumentally stupid or she had one bizarre agenda.

Faust was willing to bet the latter.

He continued his tailing, while staying a few feet away in case he needed the running distance for another leap at her face. At this point he suspected that vigilance paid off more than violence, because she may be sifting about for more magical reasons. A few questions filtered to mind in his tailing: can the Negaverse deduce powered identity through random trash like this? Was she looking for a henshin pen and thought the drawing might be a clue? Or was she investigating Quenton under suspicion of a powered identity?

Finally Faust bounded on top of the shelving above the bed, watching the corrupt with a wary gaze. Luckily his bandage stayed in place during his leap; often times it sagged or sat askew after too much physical activity.

Again she drew near sensitive areas, and from his perch he had a perfect vantage point - Faust leapt readily toward her mass of olive air, fully intending to tangle it and shred every last scrap of scalp she had before she might find the strength to pry him off. A hiss followed, just as claws sank into the soft mass of hair.

Nothing yet jumped out to Perspehone insofar as possible items to give to Bischofite went, and she was starting to feel a little creepy rustling through a stranger's things. Even if it was totally for a good cause. So she was just about ready to go when the cat launched itself at her hair, and she shrieked.

"Oh, my god, get the hell off me!" She yelled, reaching back and grabbing at where she thought the cat was. It was a bit imprecise, particularly since she was working blind, but she was definitely not going to just lay down and be attacked. "I'm leaving, jesus, you crazy ******** animal!"

Not that she particularly thought that yelling a lot would fix anything, since the cat was clearly vicious. She really, really should have thought to bring something to appease the animal, but she hadn't expected a giant angry vicious mini-panther.

The girl's thrashing around offered little resistance to Faust's excellent grip on thick wads of hair, but the palm that shot up to grope at a particularly sensitive area startled the large cat with a yelp. He bounded down almost immediately, caught halfway between embarrassed and incredulous, but he turned to face the enemy despite her surprise attack on his goods.

Again he growled, slowly approaching the corrupted abomination in a low stalk. From the sound of it, he already had quite an impact - while he lacked the ability to attack her starseed directly, his feline presence offered enough deterrence to convince her to leave.

All he had left to do was simply chase her out of the damn apartment.

Loosing another howl, Faust readied his hindquarters and shot after her one last time, banking that she'd turn tail and run toward the door to avoid collision.

Persephone was very glad she'd managed that lucky shot, because once he was out of her hair she started running for the door, praying that the dangling ends wouldn't be some kind of weird kitty enticement. Right then, all she wanted was to be ******** you, you crazy animal," she said, leaning against the doorframe for a moment to catch her breath, and then she slipped out of the apartment, slamming the door shut once she was sure her goddamn inconvenient overlong corrupt hair wasn't going to get caught in it.

She'd meant, when she left, to relock the door somehow, but that seemed moot. Also she didn't want to hang around much longer and risk discovery. So instead, she teleported away, leaving the door unlocked. Surely it would be assumed to be a normal break-in, or a moment of forgetfulness. It wasn't as if the cat could rat her out, after all.

Either way, the hard part of her job was done.

Now, she just had to find Bischofite.

Faust loosed one last growl at the abomination before she cursed him out. Refraining from rebuking her in one last vicious attack demanded all of his restraint, but he managed it well enough once she showed herself out the door with a slam. Faust half-hoped her hair would catch, giving him an excuse to tear it to smithereens before she found the chance to free herself.

And just as surely as he sensed her, her auric energy dissipated entirely - immediately.

The hell? The cat thought, perplexed. Goddammit. Not only did some Negaverse b***h drop by to steal some s**t, but now I gotta tell Thraen that she went and ******** off before I could finish the job... Gotta try harder next time.

Returning to the bed, he curled up on Quenton's pillow to nap the remaining hours away in anticipation of delivering the grim news.
