Pale rose eyes stared out from a tumble of dark green hair as the small body wiggled on the ground. Her shoulders hunched, sharp fangs slowly opening to the shining sun. One...two...LEAP! The female lunged forward at the bird, hands grabbing into the air. "RAWR!" Her own voice echoed back amongst the sound of frantic flapping. Slowly the midnight wings of the crow fell back down the ground around her.

Missed. She sank back to the ground with a grunt. Apparently she still wasn't ready for the hunt. "Sssssstupid bird. Flying away." Priya muttered under her breath even as she glared into the sky as the bird landed in a tree. Taunting her. "One day I'll catch ALL the birdsssss." Especially those Harpies her parents spoke of. Whatever a harpy was.

Not far away, Zulfiqar had been sitting around, quietly observing his sister's hunting tactics. He didn't even try to hide his exasperated sigh as she failed. Of course she couldn't catch it with that method; what was she, stupid?

Eh... Probably.

Luckily for him, he wasn't. He didn't bother to make any movement as she called out, instead raising his voice in reply. "Doubt it. All you got'sss a loud mouth, and yelling doesssn't make you any stronger." He shrugged, smirking. "All hissss and no bite."

An all too familiar voice reached her ears, causing her glare to harden further. Why that annoying little cretin... She softened her features before turning around to look at him. "Oh, it'ssss you Zul. Thought it was a gnat." She spat out, already in a foul mood from her failed hunting attempt. Priya needed to hear his nagging just as much as she would need a thorn jammed into her tail. "And at leassssst I tried. You're jussssst a lazy, boring worm." Her tail flicked as if to punctuate her insults further. Calling her a loud mouth, the nerve!

Her glare was met with a snicker and a shrug of his own. Reading her features was as easy as reading a book (not that he was literate or understood what books were). Was she trying to be threatening? "A gnat? A lazy, boring worm?" Hmph, child's play. "Can't you at least come up with an interesting insult, or is that too much for your harpy-brain to process." He shrugged. "I could easily catch a bird on my own if I ever wanted to. No way a girl could ever hope to be better than me." He flashed his fangs as he smirked at her, basically begging her to come at him. "It's pitiful that you should be one of the kids of the great leaders of the Naga Clan."

Oh...oh no. Priya practically bristled. To insult her mocking attempts was one thing. Even calling her a harpy brain could be tolerated. But to say that she was beneath him because she was female? Oh no. She slithered up to him, showing her fangs. "Lookssss like you're also SSSSTUPID on top of being a lazy, boring worm. You think you're sssssoooo much ssssstronger?" With that, she put all her might into shoving him, hopefully to the ground. "I'll put you in your place, you parasssssite!"

Zulfiqar merely raised an eyebrow as his sister approached, giving no reaction to her display of fangs and threats. While it may have appeared his full attention was on her, his eyes were actually glancing to the different parts of her, taking note of her movements and waiting for that moment...

...when...

...the moment she lunged, his own hands reached up to meet with hers and he turned, redirecting her force from him to pull her forward. "Stronger, probably." At the peak of her turn, he let go to let her fall. "Thanks for putting me in my place, sis, so comfortably higher than you~" his tone was practically dripping with sarcasm.

Confusion. How did he know? The female hissed as her body fell forward to the ground, but not before whipping her powerful tail around to try and knock him down with her. "Oof!" The female quickly rolled to get back upright to attack her hopefully downed foe. "You are SSSSOOOOO annoying. No wonder NO ONE LIKESSSS YOU!"

The lunge, that had been expected; the tail whip, not so much. Zulfiqar hissed as it hit his own, easily knocking him off of his balance and onto his stomach. His eyes quickly searched behind him, just catching her movement in time to catch her hands in his. He glared intensely at her for just a moment before smirking. "Did I asssk to be liked by the likesss of you?" He stuck out his (forked?) tongue before trying to flip her over.

HA! So he didn't have special mind-reading powers! She squeezed his hands as she pulled back her lips for a hiss. "Sssssuit yourself. You can jussssst die alone." For a moment she resisted his flip attempt, liking being on top for once. But then the female suddenly yanked in the direction he wanted. It caused her to flip over, yes, but with his force combined with her strength, the thought was the momentum would be enough to send them into a roll.

Poor Papa, needing to break up fights all the time since Naga don't 'play nice'

His hands squeezed in tune with hers, practically spitting back. "I thought we were talking about me, not you, you little slug!" As she tried to make them turn, turn they indeed did, spinning round and round, she then him on the ground, until they bumped into something hard. And cold.

And scaly.

Looking down at the two of his children that had run into his tail, the emperor Jahleel's powerful gaze would have been enough to send shivers down most pae'll's spines. Crossing his arms, he spoke slowly, not looking elsewhere for even a moment, "Explain to me what it is that you two are doing?" Play-fighting between siblings was alright, even quite openly encouraged by him, as a way for his offspring to improve their combat abilities and one day reign supreme as the strongest over all the other clans in this land. But this seemed a bit more serious than that.

The fights always seemed to be more than just for play.

Perhaps they were in need of a larger territory if just one clutch was enough to produce such aggression. But, really, this might have been a blessing. With fights like this, surely they would become strong.

Looking up, Zulfiqar blinked at the form of his father's body, rendered speechless by his presence. One day he would be even stronger than him, he would make it happen and prove himself better.

He made her so angry! The female practically saw red. "I hate you, you ssstupid worm!" She screeched as they rolled around the ground like animals, each trying to get on top. And then - thud. They stopped at the immovable force, causing Priya to slowly look up.

Uh oh. It was Papa. And he didn't look pleased. The female naga quickly scrambled off, practically shoving Zulfiqar away so she'd get free faster. "He sssstarted it!" Priya instantly blamed, looking almost meekly up under her fathers crushing stare. One day she'd have her clan's leader wrapped around her tail, her aspirations being the favorite mate. But for now, Jahleel could squish them with no effort. "He sssssaid I beneath him, jusssst cuz I'm a girl!" She looked down then with a frown as her voice softened. "And he made fun of my hunting." From the corner of her eye she glared at Zulfiqar. First he was a bully, and now he was getting them in trouble with Papa! He really was the worst.

When he was pushed, rather than push back, the first thing Zulfiqar did was glare at Priya. Glare with daggers. And fire. In his eyes. Well, not really, but it was a pretty mean glare. "Did not!" He yelled back. "I wasss jussst trying to help. It'sss not my fault she'sss a terrible hunter who takesss everything persssonally!"

It took everything in him not to just sigh and leave them to their bickering. Let them settle it out how kids settle things; a few scratches and bite marks would do any child good. His mate would be on his tail and a nuisance if he let things go as the were, though. How troublesome. There was something she said, though, that was a problem that needed to be snipped in the bud. Sternly looking to the boy, he questioned. "Zulfiqar, did you say that? Did you say you were better than your sister because she's female?"

"No! I said I'm better than her, but that'sss just becaussse she sucksss." Little brat, trying to pin this all on him. This was all her fault; it wasn't like he'd antagonized her or anything (b-b-b-baka).

As he spoke the female gasped before settling into a glower, her entire body wanting to jump on him again. It took everything in her not to butt into his 'explanation'. "Lying to FATHER?! Thatssss low Zulf!" She crossed her arms to pointedly glare back at him before looking up at Jahleel. Time to bury the little lying worm. "He ssssaid, and I quote, 'No way a girl could ever be better than me'." She remembered the line very well, as it was the reason why she went physical. Now back to glaring at the boy, more than happy to throw him under their fathers anger. He deserved every bit of it. Maybe Jahleel would eat him.

This makes me think so much of two kids caught fighting on the playground, each trying to look good in front of teacher XD

Jahleel outright glared at his son after Priya spoke, venom in his words. "Is that true? Are you lying to me?" Violence among siblings was one thing; even ill-intent towards him would be acceptable if it helped them to grow. But lying to him... Oh, that was one thing the emperor would simply not tolerate of his children under any circumstances.

"N-no dad, I..." he fumbled with his words, trying to come up with a reasonable excuse.

"You what?"

Maybe this would work? "I-I might have said that... B-but! What I meant to say wasss 'a girl like you.' Not jussst 'a girl.' It wasss a slip of the tongue."

Reaching down to pick up the boy by his hair, he dangled the child in front of him, glaring. "You know what, son? I think you are lying to me. Again, and again, and again. That's a dangerousss thing to do to me." Even more than before, his tone was soft but just seemed to drip with poison, the slipped hiss just noticeable among the words. "Do you know what I do with liars, boy?" A moment's pause. "Well, it isn't pretty."

Bringing the child up to his face so that their noses nearly touched, his eyes locked on the boys. "Now. Have you got something you'd like to say to me?"

As their father turned a glare on the little boy, Priya's own stare turned into a bright eyed smirk. And THAT'S why it was unwise to mess with females. No matter how crafty Zulfiqar thought he was, it was she who came out on top.

And really, did he honestly think lying to Jahleel was smart? Of all Naga's? As the boys small, fragile body was lifted into the air by his hair, Priya did her best to keep small and quiet. Her job was done, and any sound she made might deflect the adults wrath from the boy onto her. Maybe he really would eat him! That would be nice.

One thing was for sure, Zulfiqar would no doubt never lie to his parents again. He'd do well to be nicer to Priya too, but that was more of a stretch.
