You're a brooding egomaniacal dark sorcerer, in this fairy, b***h.
I should like you by default!
....
But the delivery was so goram poor.
It started at a point that, to rights, should've been a good thirty minutes in after a good deal of character building. It made most of the main sleeping beauty cast look like blithering idiots.
....
Moreso than they were in sleeping beauty, at least. I mean, they were blithering idiots anyway, but not to this degree.
Their fairies were inconsistent. And it bothers the ever loving crap out of me.
And whilst I was hoping for a sympathetic portrayal, everything came across as extremely biased instead. Don't kiss the mistress of all evil's a** that much, man.
I'll forgive the major random plot point change 'cause if it was pulled off well I would've adored it, but you've still gotta make her fully evil.
Hnnnnng.
Like, ******** feel like it was a good idea, but it just wasn't pulled off well.
You say that the king sucked a** and everyone hated it. You could've shown that. It would've been character development for the antagonist that would've made him half decent.
You say that the old fairies are dead. You could've shown that. It would've made the main b***h more reasonable.
Hell, I kind of wish the entire thing was just Maleficent's childhood up until Aurora's birth.
Start with a pair of war fae fighting against a somewhat corrupt king figure, overextending the boundaries of their assigned role of the forest. The pair have a kid, a symbol of the hatred they have against the kingdom, and name her Maleficent.
Fill her head with tales of how untrustworthy the hoomies are whilst she's young, and one day get offed in a fight that they probably shouldn't have started.
All the while showing a parallel story of the aftermath of one of their raids, wherein they leveled a small farming community. Centered around a young stable boy who just watched his parents die in a fire because of frighteningly huge fairies with hawk wings.
Then have it go to the start of the movie, wherein the stable boy became a thief. Have the fae folk capture him, and then have the two reconcile their various differences and come to be friends.
And make the climax the stable boy escaping the fae woods after demonstrating just how much of an a*****e he can be, thus prompting sleeping beauty as it stood.
confused
Though I do enjoy the mentions of cold iron.
