Fortunately for Ian, he was discharged from the Infirmary only a week after coming back.
Unfortunately for Ian, he was forcibly stuck in a wheelchair for at least two more days after that week, thanks to a very irate and stubborn nurse who refused to listen to his protests that his legs were working just fine, thank you very much, and it was his hands that had been broken, not his feet.
Still, he had things to do and places to go, and if that meant he had to agree to the wheelchair for all of two days just to get out of the infirmary, then he would do it.
Now he sat in the damn thing in front of a certain office, his expression one of mingled concentration and hesitation. The bandages around his neck itched, Ian longing to just tear the stupid things off, but he left them on for vanity's sake, not wanting to see the scar he knew was beneath them.
At least he'd come back with knowing one thing had to change, and that was his division.
With a sigh, he knocked on Edith's door and waited patiently to see if she was in.

She wasn't.
But fortunately, before he could leave, Edith striding down the hallway and nearly passed by both him and the office door. The wheelchair received a flat look and a sighed, drama queens, before she asked shortly, "Did you need something?"

He hated the damn wheelchair. Ian folded his hands in his lap and looked up at the woman, a smile on his face.
"You're Edith, right?" he asked. "Head of the Moon Division? I'd like to request a Division transfer from Mist."

Edith gave him a once over and nodded before asking bluntly, "Why's that?"

He frowned slightly as he contemplated this.
"I've never felt right in Mist," Ian answered with a shrug. "It's a great division, and the people there are great - but I need to be in a place where I have a specific goal."
He scratched absently at his bandaged neck. "Mist is like...the backbone of Deus, y'know? They do everything, and while that's crazy impressive, I can't do that. I've gotta have a specific goal in mind, and I think Moon, with it's defensive and protective strategies is the way to go."
He smiled slightly. "Plus I've got people to protect, things to do. A division transfer to somewhere I can be of use is a step in the direction I want to take."

The petite leader gave him an approving look, "Then I'm glad to hear it. Have you got your paperwork squared away?"

There was a long pause.
"Uh. No?"

There was another long pause as Edith gave him the sternest of looks, full of grim judgement and the promise of a lot of paperwork, completed in triplicate. "One important lesson you'll be learning, young man, is the importance of preparation. Thinking ahead and you won't get dead." A solemn nod followed and there was every chance that this was the actual motto of his soon-to-be division.

Ian felt the full force of that look, shrinking a little in his chair. "Yes, ma'am," he said quickly, folding his hands together in his lap and trying to look suitably chastened. "Yes, I understand, you're absolutely right. I will get that paperwork done immediately."

Nodding, she frowned again at the wheelchair. "How long until you're out of that? Most Moonwork is physically demanding, if you're gonna be stuck in there, we won't have much use for you right, off."

Ian glanced down at the chair with a disgusted look on his face.
"The techs on duty in the infirmary made me leave with it, but tomorrow or the next day," he said, planning on leaving it anyway even if they told him to stay sitting longer.

Edith just rolled her eyes, "They just love putting people in the darned things, I swear. Playing like it's a 'popra, all General Hospital, grant me patience. But never mind that, just make sure that paper work is in by the time you're able to be useful, and I'll put you right to work as a Moon."

He smiled in pure relief. "It's ridiculous," Ian agreed, tugging at the bandages on his neck again. "I swear I'll get the paperwork in as soon as humanly possible, so you can use me as you see fit."
Ian leaned back in his chair. "I appreciate you seeing me."

"You'll be seeing me again soon enough," Edith flashed him a rare smile and then continued on her way.
