I always thought goit and smeg were real words. I dhouls have known better! This is RD, after all! Found this interview on the web:
ROB: And we wanted to invent a futuristic curse word which had the right sort of consonant and vowel arrangement to make it sound like a genuine...
DOUG: Swear word.
ROB: Swear word.
DOUG: Go on, go on. And this is interesting. It is a fascinating story. Yes it is.
ED: It is fascinating. I am absolutely hooked. My mouth is...
DOUG: It's interesting as well because just the way, you are actually in a corner here. You can see like there is a wall there and a wall there. He's in a corner both physically and metaphorically.
ROB: And so we tried many combinations of vowels and consonant. We had goit.
DOUG: We had goit. We did.
ROB: Which we use in a different {mumble} and we had gimboid. And smeg head...
DOUG: Yes.
ROB: ...felt very good.
DOUG: It did feel good. We felt that that worked didn't it? And by jingo it has.
ROB: It has.
ED: And it's lasted terribly well.
ROB: Do you know there is a company...
DOUG: Sweden.
ROB: Swedish company.
DOUG: Called Smeg.

A Swedish company called Smeg? Lucky little smeggers aren't they! They should feel honored.

I have vowed, ever since I saw one for sale in IKEA, that I would one day buy myself a SMEG fridge to complete my future home... whee blaugh 3nodding
I call people gimboids, goits and smegheads on a regular basis. It's always fantastic when someone turns round and says "OH MY GOD YOU LIKE RED DWARF!!!" Starts up lifelong friendships that does... 3nodding

Some kid, I guess who must've been about 11 stood up and said "What does smeg mean?" The cast members went bright red, started laughing and crawled off stage. Would they really have done that if it were a made up word?
