What was he even doing anymore? To Finn, who had fairly recently broken up with what was likely the best thing that would ever happen to him, and who had more recently been consumed by fire for the second god damn time in the Sahara, forcing him to cut his hair short again, it felt a lot like he was back to where he started when he'd first gotten to the island. He spent a lot of his time avoiding things, avoiding rounds, avoiding work, avoiding people. He spent a lot of his time thinking, interrupted often by the growling snarls of his weapon, who told him to get off his a** and do something, because Trynt knew what happened to hunters that became useless.

They went back into the pod.

Finn knew that too, but he also felt like he had just needed a break. A week, two weeks....and then he found himself going through the motions of island life without putting any amount of real effort into it. Fini slept over when she felt like sleeping over (and sleeping was all that went on). Finn did the minimal amount of work that was expected of him to do.

And then one day he finally felt like he was ready to socialize again, but he felt so completely out of touch of everything that was going on. Of course, that only meant that he should get in touch with the one person he thought might be even more out of touch then himself.

Jack.

Firing off a text to the green giant that morning to tell him to meet up with him that afternoon, Finn later that day and a few minutes early found himself leaning against the pole that supported a basketball net, arms crossed over his chest and a cigarette dangling from his lips as he waited for his friend to arrive.

Jack had a hangover and smelled disgusting, and worst of all somewhere in his nighttime activities he had tracked some vomit over his shoes (a pair of Florsheim's brown cap-toes with wing tips). He had actually been in the midst of scrubbing them clean and remembering what self-loathing felt like when Finn's message arrived. At first it was ignored, hoping to avoid social activities all day. Then he remembered Finn knew where his room was.

God damn it.

Well, whatever, Jack could have worse company. And who knew, maybe indulging a dude's afternoon would be enough to get the Moon off his a** about socializing. Plus, well, basketball.

Switching to a much sportier outfit, Jack arrived outside and stretched as he made his way over to the meeting place. "Yo. Ready to get your a** kicked?" he asked airily.

He wasn't waiting long before Jack arrived, flaunting with the usual air of one who knew he was better at something then his opponent. Finn really had nothing to argue back with, knowing that he lacked both the height and the skill to be much of a competitor against Jack, but hell, any opportunity to get active at this point was welcome, and for the sake of amusing banter and conversation, it was good to see that the other man actually decided to show up.

Taking a finishing drag off of his cigarette, he tossed it to the ground, stepping on it with the toe of his running shoes before turning to offer Jack a smirk. Nearby, a basketball sat waiting upon the ground, and Finn took a sidestep towards it, before booting it up in the air towards Jack, aiming for the other mans face.

"If proving you can best a one eyed man who's nearly a foot shorter then you at a sport that you excel in helps you sleep at night..then sure, why not. I am here for my a** kicking."

"Almost. I will be proving I can best a one-eyed man who's nearly a foot shorter then me at a sport that I excel in while recovering from a hangover," Jack corrected him with an appropriately cocky look as he caught the ball. "Do appreciate my handicap." Hopefully the pain pills would kick in soon enough, though, because god damn it was bright.

"Let's see. First to 21 points sound good?" He pointed out the boundary marks for one and two point shots before bouncing the ball back to Finn, making a grand gesture towards the basket.

"Ladies first. We both know Fini's the one who wears the pants."

A hangover? Interesting...or maybe not even remotely. It might have just been pathetic. " Oh, what were you celebrating? Your ascension into the kingdom of fagotry? Bet that throne of dicks is nice and comfy on your sweet homo a**."

To Finn's credit, he managed to snag the ball out of the air as it came bouncing towards him, his eye glancing back towards the indicated lines before he nodded, and dribbled his way to the one point line, hoping to make an easy shot off the get go.

Making a scoffing sound in the back of his throat, Finn took the shot, surprisingly sinking it, though only after the ball took a little spin around the rim.

"The only pants she was getting into were mine, a**-face, but those days are over now." Did Jack not hear about the break up, yet? In the practical fishbowl known as deus, Finn somehow found that hard to believe.

It was true, he did know about the breakup thanks to tending to Ian; but the more he pretended he didn't know, the better. It was easier to get information that way.

"Throne of dicks...Game of Dicks?" Jack snickered. "You want to talk about faggots, let's talk about how you lost a sweet piece of a** for what I assume was no good reason. No, wait: 'there was more d**k in your personality than in your pants', right?"

He hadn't heard that before, no sir.

Getting the ball, the giant lazily ambled to the line, squinted, and then just as lazily lined up a shot. Almost nothing but net.

"A man can drink as he pleases," Jack continued with a shrug. "I just felt like pushing the limit. Long day."

Finn shrugged his shoulders, watching as Jack sunk his shot before jogging off to retrieve the ball while answering. "I'm just not boyfriend material, I guess." He scooped up the ball, then wandered back towards the two point line this time, ready to take on a more challenging shot.

"Also, you're assuming that now I'm not getting any at all, which, lets be serious here. This." He gestured up and down his body with a free hand. "Does not go unnoticed or unwanted. Hell, Fini still insists on staying over as often as I'll let her. Some girls just can't let go." He lifted the ball up, lined up his shot, and let it fly.

It hit the backboard hard, off center, sending the ball spinning off side ways. Well, that was kind of disappointing, but he mentally shrugged it off, knowing full well that basketball wasn't his thing.

"Well maybe next time give a guy a call and invite him over for some drinks too, a*****e. I could have used some myself."

"I heard about it after the fact. Figured you wanted space more than booze for a while." And it wasn't like he needed to help Finn with the latter anyway. Jack had wanted to drink alone for that particular venture.

(He still wondered if she'd ever approach him about it, or if she'd just shrug him off. His handiwork was hard to misinterpret.)

"We could make a run for something after this," he suggested as he tossed another point, wryly smiling. "Nothing cures a hangover like more alcohol. No surprise bitches want the sex and none of the commitment, though." It didn't particularly matter to him who broke up with who--he knew Finn better than he knew Fini, and that was all it took to skew his perspective.

"Of course you heard it after. How could you have heard it before." Finn quipped in response, the words said without hesitation or even much thought, an automatic response to a silly choice of words. But Jack was right, Finn did need his space, and his booze, but mostly his space. Preferably both at the same time if he could get it, though his own supply had run a bit dry lately and he hadn't taken the time to restock.

Getting the ball back he didn't bother moving for a closer shot, still determined to get in one that was worth more.

Another mistake, as this one went even more haywire then the one before. Mock sighing, he raked fingers through his recently re-shortened hair.

"Right you are about that, Jackie-boy. And sure, I mean, if you're not to busy being a ******** hermit."

Jack paused, then chuckled. "s**t, maybe I'm more buzzed than I thought," he said as he moved to the two point line and tried with his same lazy technique to score. The ball bounced almost perfectly back to him as if to say nope.jpg.

"Are you seriously still going on about that? Look, I'll drink with ya since you're such a great pal and break ups suck, but I like my space, too." He passed Finn the ball with a look. "Besides, I'm not that antisocial. I went to the hide and seek thing, didn't I? And the disaster that was the beauty pageant."

Well he had been invited, but it still counted becasue he could have refused.

Finn managed to catch the ball with relative ease, perhaps the smoothest handling he had done of the damn thing thus far in their little competition. Giving Jack a long look before turning to the net and giving it another shot for a two pointer, he waited to see whether or not the ball would sink or miss completely before speaking again.

"I'm sorry I think I missed most of that. Something something blah blah blah oh hey Finn I think you should help me get out and meet more people! Oh Jack, of course I will!" He gave the other man the most innocent smile one could give without an ounce of emotion leaking into his gaze before tossing the ball back to him.

"I think I have just the idea."

"I thought you were blinded, not deaf," Jack grumbled, attempting his shot with more effort for . . . no reward. Wow, this was a good reminder not to drink before a mission no matter how tempting.

The ball bounced off the board and sheepishly bobbed and then rolled back to them. He gave Finn suspicious look. "No," he said immediately. "Whatever it is, no."

This was the man who had concocted the idea of making him wear duct tape shoes after all.

"Your mouth says no but I'm pretty sure your heart is singing yes. Yes, Finn. Yes." Finn smirked as he scooped up the ball and let it fly without barely even lining up the shot, so obviously not taking this little game of their's very seriously at all anymore, if he ever had been to begin with.

The ball, of course, didn't even hit the damn backboard, instead just sailing right on past and bouncing several times before stopping on the grass several feet away from the paved area they had been playing on.

Finn made no motion at all towards going to retrieve it.

and then he said two simple words.

"Blind dates."

Jack made a gagging noise not out of exaggeration of his displeasure, but out of sheer and literal amounts of disgust.

"What the ******** no. No." Thankfully his sneer was so practiced that even in mid-gag he could wear it perfectly well. "Go find some hole to ******** yourself, leave me out of it," Jack growled as he went to retrieve the ball and get himself some space.

The idea of it was violating, not because blind dates were loathsome to him, but because it meant someone like Finn Connor would be attempting to drive fags, greasy nerds, and crazy bitches his way for a good laugh. Not for a second did he think the Moon had concocted this vile plot for the safety of his friend's sexual appetite.

While Jack had his practiced sneer, Finn had his practiced smug smile combined with the too cold expression in his eyes, both of which he had settled on Jack, gaze following him as he retrieved the ball.

"See, that's just the thing, Jacky-boy. I can find a hole to go and ******** any time I like. But you? You I have no faith in whatsoever. You're probably still stalking your ex around the island and jerking off to old photos of her into some expensive pair of Louis Vuitton's to get your ******** jollies." Finn had settled in by crossing his arms over his chest, waiting for Jack to take his next shot.

"So yes. <******** yes. It is happening."
