The night was young yet but at least it had been a quiet one thus far, something that was in short supply for Sailor Canopus as of late, so one would not hear a single complaint from her. Given the recent ordeals she and countless others had gone through, the prospect of a quiet evening was simply too appealing to her and she hoped it would have remained that way, even if only for a night. If she could have one night where she wasn’t fighting for her life or any other’s, that would have been great!
Of course, who knew what the fates had in store? The Dark Mirror senshi of Longevity would have liked to nurse the idea that this kind of tranquility would last to awhile so that she and others could recuperate, but perhaps it was the recent battles that wised her up to the idea that it would only last as long as the next Negaverse officer concocted a crazy scheme or the next senshi that saw her as a body snatcher and sought to cure of her of disease with death. And who knew how long that would have lasted? A day? A few hours? A couple of minutes?
Still, it was best to savor this peace while she could… especially when she felt a peculiar tingle of an Order aura nearby. It didn’t feel like anything she’s ever felt before- neither a senshi, a knight or a chibi. But it was definitely order, and Canopus found herself drawn to it, maneuvering around the tented up Fish Market and trying to ignore the pungent aroma of fish as she looked for the owner of said aura. All she wanted was a look, and nothing more… if they were dangerous they’d strike against her and she knew exactly where the mirror was to escape. But she had to know…
Who was she sensing right now?

Horatio was body deep in ice and fish and could not be happier! Some would point out that what she was doing was technically stealing, but the Himalayan felt that she had more than earned a treat because she had just spent the last few days kicking out every rat, mouse, squirrel, and bug she could find. Normally she wouldn’t spend as much time hunting vermin like a mere Earthian cat, but the owner of the fish market had always been nice whenever she was around. (Some could continue to point out that doing a kind deed was its own reward, particularly if he had already done her a favor, but the Mauvian just wanted to take a medium sized fish for a prank, and she was going to take a rotten one that he couldn’t sell anyway, and that made it all okay as far as she was concerned.)
She finally found exactly what she was looking for. A half-mauled trout that had seen far better days but one wonderfully stinky and brimming with scales. Yes, it would stink up the candy store nicely overnight until Daran came in to open up… and oh, the look on his face was going to be priceless. Horatio sunk her claws into the fishy flesh and pulled it out from under the other corpses before throwing it over the side of the cooler. She realized at that point that she was not alone, but she still waited and endured the cold a bit longer on the off chance that some salmon was nearby. No luck on that point.
“I know you’re out there, loser!” Harsh words spoken in her normal, chipper tone because as of yet said loser hadn’t done anything to earn her kitty forehead beam or a scratch to the face. She hopped out of the cooler and shook her fur to get rid of some of the chill even as she sniffed the air. Fish were potent, but this… this was distinctly Chaos, but tinged with… something? “Feel… weird, though. Your starseed sicker than normal or something?”

Canopus was startled by the words, but not because she couldn’t immediately find the speaker of that voice (which in itself was a bit of a surprise on its own) but because of the insult that was slung her way. She jumped to her feet and looked around the market, looking up on the rooftops and wondering if they had come from up there, though it sounded far closer. She saw no one, though that didn’t stop her from giving an angered huff. “L-loser? That’s… that’s not a very nice thing to say to someone who’ve never even met. And childish, too!”
Seriously, who slung out insults like that? Perhaps it was a Chibi senshi, which would have been exceptionally bad for Canopus because then it’d mean she wouldn’t be able to lift a finger against them in retaliation, even if her life depended on it. Hitting a child? She would NEVER! Suddenly there came movement from the corner of her eye and she jumped to attention, spinning around and almost causing her braid to whip around and smack her on the other cheek with the speed of it, and to her surprise… it was a cat!
And what an adorable cat it was! Immediately, Canopus almost found herself forgetting the insult slung at her earlier and resisted the urge to walk over and scoop the creature into her arms. It was almost as thick and fluffy as Rhys was from what she recalled, but this one was not only a different breed, but so much smaller, and so adorable! The guardian cat’s words almost went unheard as she brought her hands to her cheeks, trying to contain herself as she gushed. “Oh… oh you’re absolutely adorable, little guy! You’re a guardian cat… of the White Moon, right?”
It seemed like a dumb question, but she figured she was allowed one. Because it would have been rude to ignore the question, Canopus answered with some confusion tinged in her voice as well. “Thank you for your concern, but my starseed’s not sick. At least, not to my knowledge.”

Seeing how her companion looked around in confusion made it very, very tempting for Horatio to try and dart away before she was seen. Maybe she could pull a prank while gathering the materials for another prank, which would mean that the pranks had been doubled but--well, now she was seen and the reaction was still pretty good. She giggled and lashed her tail flag about whenever cutie faces were made in her direction. Whoever this loser was, she sure knew how to get on a Mauvian’s good side! (Or at least this Mauvian’s good side.)
“Sure am!” Horatio used a hind leg to scratch off some scales that had become lodged in the fur behind her ears, but she still made no move to attack and was, really, downright cheery! With absolutely no fear at all, she trotted over to the dark-haired girl. She was not going to let this one out of her sight, naturally, but as of yet there was no need to get violent. Maybe the Senshi would become a friend, and then with friendship the potential to become a winner, and any chance of new winners was worth however much effort it took! Besides, she was cooing and saying how adorable the Himalayan was (all true, all justified) and giving her as much limelight as her attention-whoring heart could ever need. “I’m Horatio, and I’m sorry, but your starseed is definitely sick, I can smell the Chaos from here and it says ‘alert, alert, loser alert, alert!’ like all the others, but there’s something extra too, something not… quite right.”
Her nose twitched as she tried to come up with a slightly better way to explain the sheer amount of wrong she felt with the other around. The cream-colored cat’s head suddenly jerked up and teal eyes met the girl’s face as she sputtered, “H-h-hey, I’m not a ‘guy’!” It was a fact that had initially been glossed over in favor of more important statements made, but Horatio wanted to be very very clear on this point! She puffed up her beautiful, creamy fur and pointed to the goggles on her face. “See how my lenses are pretty pink peppermints? I’m 150 percent lady!” Her defense made it clear that, unfortunately, she had to point this fact out entirely too often. A small pout rose to her face as she rubbed against the Senshi’s boot. A cuddle was clearly owed. (And would put her in closer proximity to that bizarro starseed!)

Canopus was a little surprised to see him take such offense to the confusion of gender, but she wasn’t going to play it off as if it was nothing. After all, she had found that one of the flaws in most other girls was that they were more often than not vain creatures and if they were mistaken for a man, either in person or over the phone, then that would have been seen as a personal strike against their self image, and no one, not even a cat, deserved that! Canopus’ gushing had immediately come to an end and she apologized quickly, hoping that the feline wasn’t too angry with her that she’d think her efforts weren’t sincere. “Oh, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to… I’m sorry, it will never happen again, ma’am!”
Yet, the rub to her boot was comforting and she couldn’t stop the giggle from escaping her throat when her fur brushed against her toes. It was such a strange concept to be talking to a feline, but Canopus liked to think of them as humans stuck in the form of a cat and there was nothing wrong with that, right? With that out of the way, though, she pondered what she had meant by the scent of her starseed, but then it dawned on her, and Canopus found herself smiling sweetly at the small cat, extending a gloved hand to her and hoping she’d let her pet her soft fur. It would have been a crime to see a cat so beautiful and fur so soft and not be allowed to pet it, right?
“Oh, you must be smelling the mirror’s effect on my starseed? I’m Sailor Canopus, senshi of Longevity, and I’m of the Dark Mirror Court. Instead of being awakened by a cat, like you, I was baptized through a mirror… that’s probably why my starseed smells weird to you. It’s Chaos, but… a different kind of Chaos. Not the bad kind, like the Negaverse.” Then, she finally asked. “May I pet you?”

The apology was immediately enough to make Horatio slip back into a smiling, bubbly mood. She might have been a loser… but this Canopus was really, really cute and seemed to want to be a nice person. She had made a mistake (well, in addition to being a Chaos girl), and mistakes could always be undone. Besides, she had a kind smile and Horatio couldn’t help but feel like this was the kind of person who would toss her some salmon or throw a sparkly ball to chase if she asked. “It’s okay, my humans used to think I was a dude too and I don’t really know why, but you’ve made your apology and if you don’t do it again then we’ll just forget it ever happened and… wait, what?”
The comment about the mirror and the idea that there could be a good kind of Chaos made Horatio fix her new friend with a queer look, one absolutely disbelieving of what she was hearing. It even got her to stop her rubbing up against the open-toed boot because this was some information she needed to let sink into her brain. Oh, Sailor Canopus and Longevity sounded a-okay and felt right but the rest made her shake her head. “I don’t know anything about a mirror, but Chaos is always bad news. You should’ve come to me, I’d have put you on the right side!”
The incredulous look only deepened whenever permission was asked for petting. Was she a feline? Check. Was she in front of a human with two working hands? Check. THEN YES, OF COURSE WHY WERE THERE NOT ALREADY CUDDLES AND PETS?! In response, the motormouth bumped her head against that outstretched hands in the clearest, most demanding act of attention seeking she could do. “Well, yeah, I’d be offended if you didn’t! No reason we can’t talk and cuddle at the same time, I mean, it’s not like you need your hands to tell me stuff and I don’t need to be at a distance to tell you stuff.”
To show her eagerness, the Himalayan placed two fluffy, though wet and fish-stank ridden paws, onto the girl’s leg. Up, up, up was where she wanted to go!

Canopus was simply to ecstatic that Horatio was allowing her to pet her that what the cat had to say about her and the Chaos within her hadn’t quite settled in, and she was surprised when the guardian cat ran up her legs and into her arms. It took a moment for Canopus to get the feline situated, but when she did, there was Horatio, snuggled between her arms and breasts like a babe, and the mirror senshi couldn’t have been happier. What an adorable cat! It was almost enough for her to forget all of her troubles! What a shame she couldn’t have a cat of her own in the dormitories…
Only when she had Horatio in the perfect position to cradle and pamper did Canopus actually consider what the guardian cat had to say, and some of her mirth faded with what she implied. Saying her side as the ‘right’ side, as though she were wrong to choose the Dark Mirror Court and follow the royals. Was Horatio one of those? At least she didn’t attack her mercilessly like others had, so this kind of disagreement was perfectly alright with Canopus. It was hard to be angry at someone’s opinion of them when they were an adorable little Himalayan cat, she told herself. “I’m sorry you feel that way… I suppose it can’t be helped that you feel like that. After all, you are meant to seek out senshi and awaken them so that they can fight, so I can understand that you’re upset that I chose the other side. But… whatever ill you may think of my court, we’re not all that bad.”
She considered her words, before adding, “Well… to my knowledge. Admittedly, there was a time where we actively participated with the Negaverse’s crimes, and perhaps our origins might be shrouded in darkness, but… I don’t think we all mean harm. I don’t, anyways. All I want is to find a place to call home… for me and my fellow court mates. Is that wrong?”
It was a deep question, but hardly treated with the same amount of respect of dignity, especially when she sought to assault the feline with cuddles!

Horatio was not exactly known for being a serious sort. Her dash up the body for cuddle time had been super successful and soon warm, strong arms were holding her up for hugs. She tried to give a response to the Senshi because she seemed like she really needed some guidance and, well, guardian cat duties didn’t just end jbecause the losers got to the Senshi first. “I dunno about all that. I know that your starseed is full of icky, nasty Chaos sauce and I’d clean it out for you if I could, but you don’t really want me to and I’d never do something like that without permission because, well, then I’d be the loser. And you’ve got a home, don’t you? There’s here and… well, Canopus up there.“
Her eyes moved from the girl’s face towards the night sky, a twinkling, magical sight that neither the putrid infestation of Chaos nor the heavy rot of fish could soil. Which reminded her. “Anyway… I just dug out a rotten trout and want to hang it from the rafters of a candy store. You wanna help?”
Not nearly as deep a question as the one Canopus sought to answer, but Horatio couldn’t answer that question. Whatever this mirror thingie was that her new friend was talking about, it was as impenetrable to her influence as a regular loser’s starseed. (In fact, if the Himalayan allowed herself to think about it… she knew that it was in some ways harder, sharper, in feeling. She simply didn’t want to think about it when the sweet girl gave such wonderful, wonderful cuddles.) She did not so much as wriggle in protest at her current position and instead began to thrum and rubbed her face against the girl’s chest.
Why wasn’t this one one of her winners? She was going to have to be even faster to make sure she didn’t lose anyone else this good to the wrong side.

Yes, this was definitely a nice change of pace, and Canopus welcomed the fuzzy companion that was nestled between her arms and chest, even if she was supplying the White Moon Court with more soldiers. That didn’t matter to Canopus in the least, though; she had willing worked alongside the White Moon court before and there was no harm in having friends on the other side, as it gave her the hope that perhaps they’d find peace in the future. That’s what Canopus hoped for, more than anything… because truthfully, she didn’t want to leave Destiny City. This was the only home she knew. Could she truly leave it, even if they found a place?
“I can’t reach my planet, sadly… though, from what I heard from a good friend, whose star shared the same system as mine, I wouldn’t like what I’d see… if my home was in the same condition as him.” She didn’t want to think about the condition her old home was in, as Avior’s retelling was far more painful than she ever wanted to admit. No, best not think about it… as she could not help it. To her knowledge, Canopus was unreachable, but at least it remained in the skies at night, its luster second only to Sirius in the western hemisphere, and that was that. “For now, though, Destiny City is my home… and I hope it can stay that way just for a little longer. I really do love this city, you know. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to destroy it or harm its citizens, not when there’s a more peaceful solution.”
Had other of her court members sought to hurt others? If so, then it was no wonder others reacted to violently to her and her kind. It was sad… were they truly not welcomed here? “But I don’t think we’re wanted here… it was something that the Negaverse and your court agreed on recently, so… I’m afraid we cannot stay here. Not so long others see us as a threat, so… would it not just be best to leave if we can’t broker peace?”
Still, it was such a heavy topic, one that threatened to drag down her mood, and that was something she wasn’t going to allow to happen while she held Horatio in her arms. She asked for her help, and Canopus was willing to lend a hand for a friend… if Horatio considered her one anyways. “What can I do to help? Anything, well… anything within reason, I’m afraid. There’s not much I can do, but what I can…. I’ll do my best.”

“Well, believe me, feeling would be mutual. Planets don’t like it when their Senshi become losers,” the Himalayan wasn’t sure if her words would help any, but she was never one to shy away from the truth. Her chin rested on the curve of the Senshi’s breast, but her purring didn’t stop. “But Destiny City is a pretty awesome too, aside from all the giant monsters attacking and such. We got fresh fish markets and arcades and playgrounds and pools and tons of fun stuff! As for Negalosers, they don’t like anybody. You’re okay. Maybe the rest of your court can just go and you stay here and be my friend.”
Horatio wasn’t that great at heart-wrenching matters. It became too complicated and threatened to make her race a neverending maze and… well, she was never going to stop giving her all. Not for Canopus, not for anyone. There were too many winners who needed her. The ones she already pulled into the game were stuck playing and would need power ups along the way. Winners who had yet to join needed a helping paw before Chaos came in and made them losers, and those already reeking needed someone to pull them out the muck. Yes, there were all sorts of stumbling blocks already keeping her from the finish line of victory, but at least the path was a straight away. So long as she dashed and dodged and used all of her energy, she and those with her were going to end up the victors!
So what should she do now? The dark-haired girl didn’t seem to really want to be saved, and Horatio had already said (and really didn’t believe) in forcing anyone. But that didn’t mean that she couldn’t take the girl on a night’s outing and help alleviate her worries some. They were all part of a war, and the Mauvian wasn’t saying that they were going to stop fighting. Just take a little break. A teeny, tiny, microscopic prank break. Then they would laugh and smile and everything would be better, at least for a while. She stretched out in Canopus’s arms to indicate the place on the ground where the trout had been left. “Okay, so we need to get that fish into the rafters of the candy shop. That way it can sit overnight and by the morning, when the owner comes in, it’ll be supeeeer smelly, but he won’t know where it is! Can you imagine the look on his face because I can and it’ll be super, duper funny. Problem is the door’s locked and, well, kitty paws aren’t exactly good for opening doors. You have any ideas?”

The idea that Horatio tried to put into her head was certainly a nice one, but perhaps she had grown out of her gullible state at last. After she had seen White Moon senshi and Negaverse officers working side by side to attack her own, it was just not something that she felt she could subscribe to any longer. Perhaps as individuals, but as a whole? It could never happen… she could never abandon her court, even if it meant to please this little Guardian cat. If there was a way, maybe she could accompany her?
“We’ll see,” Canopus eventually said, resorting to masking her skepticism with a soft smile instead of dragging the mood down. Neither one of them seemed to be the type to enjoy misery and she was happy to be able to move on with her life. “I’d like that, though… it’s always good to have friends, and I’d be happy if you were my friend, even if I’m a loser.”
And friends did whatever they could for other friends. Even when it seemed like pulling a rather cruel sounding prank. Normally she wouldn’t have resorted to such a thing, but she could not help but find herself enthralled by the cat’s enthusiasm, and it felt like it would have been a crime NOT to help her out! It would have been a blatant abuse of her power and it was likely wrong, both legally and morally, but… Canopus was so desperate for some kind of escape from the heaviness of her ordeals that she was perfectly fine with it. It wasn’t like they were going to ruin someone’s livelihood, right?
She retrieved the fish, and she hoped her giggle wasn’t too mischievous sounding. “I can open doors… tell me where to go!”
