“C’mon Casseth.” Kilian called as they stepped out of the city walls. This day had been planned for a while and Kilian was almost a little too excited for it to be here. “We’re never going to get this over with if we don’t do it now.” Kilian turned, narrowing his eyes at his son. They had skipped out on daily chores and Casseth had been dragged out of bed early just so that they could avoid the searing heat of the afternoon desert sun. “Lets get a move on.”

Casseth grunted as he pushed away from the wall of the city gate, muttering to himself about being up before the sun was and how he didn’t need to train with his father. Especially this early. He kept his mouth shut, though, knowing it would do him absolutely no good to argue with his father. He followed Kilian, knowing all too well the path they headed down. So when they arrived at the very same beach Lith and him had trained at before, Cas wasn’t surprised.

He stretched his arms over his head as he glanced out towards the ocean, memories of their first day there coming back to him clearly. Lithian had saved Cas twice that day. If not for him he would have had his leg ripped off or he would have drowned. Maybe even both. A shudder rippled through him at the throbbing in his leg. Cas could still remember the pain that had shot through his leg that day. Could remember feeling so very helpless in that moment.

‘Lithian…’ Cas closed his eyes as he remembered the party before his friends had went their separate ways. It seemed so far away and yet it had actually only been a few days. Just knowing they were no longer on Eowyn made it seem as if time had slowed down. A warm feeling spread from Cas’ stomach to his whole body as he remembered Lithian’s grin. He remember the way he’d reacted tof Araceli dancing so close to Lith. Of the stab of what he could only describe as intense jealousy when Lith had told him he’d kissed a guy.

Shaking his head, he cleared those thoughts away, focusing all his energy and thoughts on the training session to come. As he glanced up to his dad, Kilian grinned. “You can start Casseth. Show me what you can do.”

Cas


Casseth gripped the hilt of his ax, gaze focusing in on his father’s own blades. This was the first time he would be going up against such a seasoned warrior and he was nervous. It didn’t help any that it was his father standing in front of him. Should he hold back or go at him full force? He grit his teeth as he brought his ax up, lifting the heavy weapon as if it weighed nothing to him. Cas didn’t often use his ax so he figured this would be as best a time to practice as any. With a grunt, he took off towards his dad, swinging his ax down in a swoop and aiming for Kilian’s chest.

Cas


Cas cursed as his ax flew through the air. When Kilian came at him, Casseth pulled at his magic, erecting a barrier of hard sand at his right side. The clink of his father’s blades on his shield made Cas step back. He let the sand shield crumble away and at the same time he lunged, fists at the ready.

Cas


Casseth grunted as he stumbled back from his father’s attack. He rubbed his chest as he narrowed his eyes, concentrating on pulling his magic to him. As he stepped back, he brought his hands up and with them, a wall of sand pulled up from the ground. He thrust his hands out, willing the earth towards his father in what could only be described as a tidal wave made out of sand. The sand crashed down to the ground at Kilian but Casseth only cursed as his father jumped out of the way. Again he struck but Kilian was too quick for him. He pulled back at the magic, watching and waiting for his father’s next move.

Cas


Casseth, surprised at Kilian’s raised blades stumbled back, hitting up against a large rock as he did so. In a second, Kilian was on him, pinning him to the rock with the sharp edge of his blade against Cas’ neck. He didn’t move, didn’t dare to even breath for fear of nicking his neck on the blade. With a sigh, Kilian pulled away. “You have to stay focused. You must watch your opponent’s every move and expect everything.” Kilian sheathed his blades and held out a hand for his son. “I think that’s enough for today,” he said grinning. Reaching out, Cas took hold of his father’s hand and pulled himself upright. It had been tough, but Casseth had rather enjoyed training with his dad. Sweaty and out of breath, they both headed back home for some much needed rest.
