It wasn’t unusual to see Ashe strolling through even the rattiest areas of town, poking through piles of rubble and half-collapsed buildings for anything that might prove saleable. What was slightly unusual was that today she had been to the outskirts to see an actual person- a fellow salvager, though not anyone she knew personally, who apparently had come across some hard to find parts she needed to fix a fridge.

Turned out, the dude was kind of an a*****e. She wouldn’t ever begrudge someone trying to make a little profit- everyone needed something to get by on, just like her- but yeah, this guy was a grade-A jerk. It had been a difficult negotiation, and though she had come away with the parts she needed in the end, slung over her shoulder in a ratty old sack, she was positive that she’d overpaid, and it was grating on her.

As she set a brisk pace back in the direction of her apartment, she was deftly juggling two notepads and a slightly-chewed pen in her hands, hastily scribbling notes and checking figures, trying to sort out just how badly the guy had screwed her over, how she’d keep it from happening again, and how long it’d take her to make it up.

Unfortunately, having both her thoughts and her nose buried so deeply in her notes was perhaps not the best thing to be doing while walking. As evidenced by the fact that she ran headlong into some other poor pedestrian, falling back flat on her tail with a pronounced ”Oof!”, and sending her bag of parts clattering several feet down the pavement.

Here you go! Hope it’s okay. ♥

Alesis was strolling down the street of the city, though one might say he was more like pacing the streets. He didn't have anything definite to do, he was just wasting time. He didn't want to go home just yet, especially feeling that he might be followed and there wasn't a meeting to go to. Not only that, he wasn't stupid enough to try and confront a robot master by himself.

"Hmm... what to do, what to do?" He mused to himself as he finally stopped pacing and idly looked down the street, not looking at anything in particular. As he pondered, he was oblivious to someone fast approaching him from behind, that is, until the crashed into him. Stumbling forward, he almost faceplanted, but fortunately, he was able to catch himself and stay on his feet, though he had lurched forward some distance. He groaned when he came to a stop, rubbing where he was crashed into. "Ow..." He muttered as he turned around and saw another Audio on the ground. "Oh, are you alright?!" He asked, completely uncaring that it was this Audio that had just bumped into him, as he hurried toward her.

For a long moment, Ashe didn’t move from her sprawl on the pavement- her mind had been so absorbed in her notes that it took her a second to register what had happened. “Ow…” Slowly, she sat up straight, shaking her head slightly- and then a concerned voice reached her ears, and she finally clued in that the unfortunate object she’d plowed right into had been another person.

Oops.

She scratched sheepishly at the back of her head as she looked up at the guy, waving off his concern. “Nah, I’m fine. Dignity a little bruised maybe, but that’s not new.” Her tail would probably be sore for a few days too, but it’s not like she spent much of her time sitting down anyways. “Man, I’m really sorry about that though- I should wait until I get home before shoving my nose into my work. I hope my hard head didn’t do you any damage?“

Suddenly, a look of almost-panic crossed her features as she remembered about her overpriced cargo- an unexpected meeting with the street would not have done it any favors. “Aw, s**t…” Not bothering to get to her feet, she flopped over backward in order to reach out for her sack and drag it over, then began rummaging quickly through the contents to check over the parts for damage. “Man, please don’t be broken, please don’t be broken…”

Alesis started to grow more and more worried as the girl just laid there on the ground. He was tempted to poke her to see if she was dead, but decided that would be rude if she happened to still be alive. Finally hearing her exclamation of pain, he sighed in relief backing away slightly as she slowly sat up. He was still worried though, hoping she didn't break anything.

When she had told him that she was fine, he looked uncertain. "Ar-are you sure? That was a nasty fall. He questioned, tilting his head, idly inspecting her for any injuries. He shook his head when she voiced her concern. "No, I'm alright. Here, let me help you up!"

He reached out his hand to her, but blinked when she let out the expletive before falling onto her back and reached out for a bag. He would have gotten it for her if she had just asked. Tilting his head more, he moved closer, trying to peer into the bag. "What's that?"

For the minute or two it took her to thoroughly look over her parts, she honestly didn’t pay any attention at all to the guy still standing above her- social graces could wait until she knew if her day was really, extra screwed. Fortunately, everything seemed to be in okay shape. She probably wouldn’t know for sure until she got home and tried to install them, but other than a few shallow dents, things were promising.

She sighed heavily in relief. “Man, that would have been the worst. She set the parts back in the bag- probably slightly more delicately than she had to, but she wasn’t about to take any chances here- and finally looked up at the other hovering nearby. “Ugh, sorry again, it’s been a long day and apparently my manners have hit ‘trash’ rating. These’re parts I need to fix a fridge I’ve got at my warehouse. I had to overpay hideously though, and the thought I might’ve broken them by being a moron was a bit panic-inducing.” She scratched at her head again, still looking sheepish and rather embarassed- this was not the sort of first impression she generally liked to make, dammit. ”Yeah, sorry- I swear I’m not usually like this.”

Alesis was utterly confused. This was the first time he saw concern literally shrugged off, or at least, ignored. Since he wasn't getting a response from her while she was looking through her things, he stood there silently, looking around idly and kicking at the ground... pretty much anything to keep him occupied while she was doing whatever it was she was doing.

Hearing her sigh, he looked to her, tilting his head curiously. He still wasn't sure if he should say anything as he watched her put the parts back into the bag she had. He listened as she explained why she was acting the way she did, but he didn't really understand the fuss over the parts. By what he saw, they didn't look delicate so they shouldn't be broken. Finally... "... But, you're alright... right?" He asked, obviously not really caring about the parts.

Hey, this was her livelihood we were talking about here- she had good reason to be worried about her cargo. And to be honest, personal safety frequently managed to end up somewhat lower on Ashe’s priority list than it should be. Bumps and bruises heal on their own after all- her wallet not so much.

It sounded like he was still concerned though, and she was quick to reassure him now that her attention was no longer divided. “Oh, yeah, yeah I’m good. Takes more than a little fall to slow me down!” She finally hauled herself up off the pavement- and couldn’t quite hide the slight wince as sore muscles protested the movement. “…Well, much, anyways.” She shrugged, with a slightly self-depreciating laugh. ”That’s what I get for not paying attention I guess. I’ll be fine though.” Better that she get the bumps anyways, when the collision was her fault- she’d have really felt like garbage if he were the one who took the spill.

Alesis understood that parts were rare in the city, but they were still more of those. You only get one body and one life, so he always felt that personal safety and health was more important that pieces. He wasn't going to argue though, especially now that she said that she was alright. He was a little skeptical though. "You really sure?" He asked, backing up to give her room as she got up. He looked her over, though that was little help, her clothes hid whatever scrapes or scars she might have gotten. "No.... no, I should have been paying attention too." He added, shaking his head when she said it was mostly her fault for not being attentive.

Well, they had rather different philosophies in that respect then- not to say that Ashe probably wouldn’t benefit from seeing things a little more his way, but she was stubborn and driven, and it would take something a great deal more serious to ever convince her to stop acting as though she were halfway to bulletproof.

She nodded firmly in response to his repeated concern, starting to absently brush the worst of the dirt from her clothes- damn, she was going to have to do laundry again this week. “I am absolutely positively fine. And no, dude, I came flying around that corner without even looking up- this was totally on me.” As fast as she’d been walking, and coming right around the corner like that, he might not have been able to get out of the way even if he had been looking her way at the time. She was absolutely not going to budge on being at fault for this one, and he was just going to have to come to grips with that.

”Anyways!” she went on a little more brightly, smiling and holding a hand out to him to shake. ”Hi, I’m Ashe. An actual collision is not generally how I like to meet people, so I’m going to apologise for that again, but other than that it’s nice to meet you.”

Alesis was still not completely sure as he gave her one last look over, but again, clothing made it hard to see if there was anything really wrong. For now, he would just have to resign himself to believe her word that she was alright. "Okay... if you say so. Even if you were flying around the corner, I still could have been looking. Perhaps, if I was, I could have had more of an opportunity to catch ourselves and less damage could have been dealt" He explained with a shrug. He wasn't much to argue a point, except with his older brother.

When she held out her hand, he smiled brightly, taking her hand and shaking it gently. "Hello Ashe, it's nice to meet you despite the circumstances of how. I'm Alesis!"

She had a much firmer handshake than he, but that was probably not too surprising- one didn’t need to be around Ashe for long to realize that she wasn’t delicate in much of any sense except her height. “Nice to meet ya!” And it really was- she could have just as easily run into a jerk who’d still be screaming at her over the whole thing, or some stab-happy crazy or something. You never did know, this far into the outskirts.

At that point she realized that her notepads and pen were still scattered over the ground around them (compared to the expensive parts, they hadn’t rated high on the immediate priority scale), and she took a quick moment to gather them up and stuff them into various pockets in her coat and belt- one collision was plenty for the day, she figured her notes and numbers could now wait until she got home (this time, anyways). “You still headed this way, then? Since I apparently need a lookout today and all.” She gestured down the street with a laugh and a questioning tilt of her head- they’d been heading in the same direction anyways, might as well have some company? And maybe a chance to redeem herself from the miserable first impression she’d made.

Alesis didn't mind the firmer handshake, he knew everyone was different. It didn't hurt, so that's all that mattered. "Nice to meet you as well." He paused in thought, "Have I said that before? Oh well, doesn't hurt to say it again." He said with a smile.

He watched as she picked up another thing of hers that she had missed before and stuffed it into her pockets, tail flicking softly behind him. He looked down the street she gestured toward, then back at her. "Well... I wasn't sure which way I was going to go, but it would be rude and negligent of me to let you walk on these streets by yourself." He told her, giving her a warm smile before slowly heading down the street.

She laughed lightly at his comment on escorting her, but while she was certainly entertained it wasn’t mean-spirited in the least. “How chivalrous! Nice to know there’s still a gentleman or two around.” If he actually offered her his elbow while they walked she’d probably die. Too cute.

She easily matched his leisurely pace down the road, though Ashe generally walked at a pretty fast clip, as evidenced earlier- time is money after all- she could afford to slow down once in a while. It’d probably do her good, in fact- especially when trying to carry on a conversation. "Seriously though, she went on, “You don’t have to worry about little old me, if you’ve got things you need to do? I can handle myself pretty well- you get in lots of practice, doing what I do. Not always a lot of friendly company though, so as long as I’m not keeping you from anything, it’s always nice to have a wandering buddy."

If he was honest with himself, he had wanted to offer her his arm, but thought that would be a little too forward of him...or at least, something a boyfriend would do with his girlfriend. Since they weren't that sort of pair, it was a little inappropriate. He did blush softly as he replied, "It's the least I could do. I mean, I like helping and seriously, in this city, it would be reckless of me to let you go by yourself."

He just walked down the street with her, tail swishing. He was in no rush, so they could take all the time they needed. He listened as she explained how she's not necessarily always in good company, frowning slightly. "No, I have nothing to do at the moment. But... if I may ask, why are you not always with good company?"

Ashe laughed again, and leaned suddenly to the side to give him a friendly little bump with her arm. “Well then, onward we go, my charming escort!” Sure, she poked some fun, but it was sweet, really. The place probably wouldn’t be such a shithole if there were a few more like him around, but that was just how it was.

It made her glad to hear that he had the time to meander around with her for a while though, and she was perfectly happy to answer his question as they walked. "Eh, salvage is a competitive business in this town, you know? It's not that everyone is unfriendly, though there are huge jerks out there, but when you're all after the same stuff, things get tense sometimes." She shrugged- it was just how things were, it didn't really bother her anymore. "And that's only when there's actually people around. If you're really good," here she paused to gesture at herself with a grin and wag of her eyebrows- she was a little full of herself and she knew it, but also wasn't above making a joke of it here and there. "Then you're into places where nobody's been for a long time- sometimes even since the fires. A few days picking through an area like that is a gold mine, but a little lonely too."
