Weaknesses of the Oubliette.
Sunlight: While the Oubliette might be considered living beings, they are a very different breed to humans. Oubliette are hyper-sensitive to sunlight and Vassals (those turned into a vampire by a noble) inherit this condition. Direct sunlight results in burning and prolonged exposure (five-minutes or so) will often cause the vampire to spontaneously combust. Filtered light is generally tolerable, hence moonlight and activity in curtained rooms is possible.
Diet: Vampires are sustained on blood and plasma; and their stomach and digestive systems are designed for this diet only. They can sip other liquids, but derive no sustenance from them, and solids will often send them vomiting a few minutes later. Young Vassals can hold solid food for up to an hour before they need to purge it out, and as the vampire tongue doesn’t taste other flavours outside of blood, they usually describe other food as ‘tasteless or like ashes'. Blood not only tastes better, but smells better as well. The Oubliette don’t taste the metal tang like humans do: instead, theyget a bouquet of flavours.
Stakes from sacred trees: All vampires can be incapacitated by being impaled. Usually because it’s the kind of injury they don’t recover from. But for very old Aristocrats, with strong physical powers (who might otherwise survive a blow to their heart), only a weapon from the Tree of Lilitu will work. No one is quite sure why only this type of wood affects them, but it is believed there is some mystical reason behind it.
Silver, Garlic and Holy Water: These do not affect vampires at all. Some Oubliette wear silver crosses just to show how strong they are against it.
Mirrors: Oubliette do have a faded, dull reflection and video tapes often fail to catch any colour in them, aside from their eyes. Strong mental powers often result in only their eyes appearing in mirrors, like Cheshire cats.
Sanctified ground/invitations: Vampires cannot enter sanctified or holy ground without an invitation. If they try, they feel ill and the urge to leave is overwhelming. They can enter any other location without issue, including homes and public places; but places of worship (including mosques, temples, shrines and churches) or specifically consecrated buildings are a problem. This issue is strongest in the more powerful mystically inclined Oubliette; some of whom cannot enter any buildings without invitation.
Sleep: The Oubliette have normal sleeping needs of a good eight hours, and due to their sunlight aversion, they usually take it during the day; but like any normal person, enough noise and you will wake them.
