Llik Meht Llikmeht watched as Ashur stepped forward toward the shadows in an attempt to bend the light. Bending the light...he thought about this. What was it to be in control of the light around you, to shun it so much that it actually bent away from you...then could you walk among the shadows? Like the light was something that didn't want to touch you or come near you...being able to walk among the shadows was actually becoming so dark that even the light feared you. This excited Llikmeht, he was learning quickly, and a great hunter he would become, maybe even be able to find new pups someday to join the brotherhood. Llik Meht's ears perked up...shadow walking. Finally the stories were over and now they were ready to start the real lessons. The lessons that might save them from death, and to help them conquer their foes. His adrenaline increased and he didn't even realize he was pacing back and forth tail straight and pointed his eyes fixated on his elders. He sunk his head low and his rear and tail high as if he was ready to attack, and a little snarl came out of his mouth. "I'm ready," he said as coolly as possible, trying to mask his excitement. I may not be as dark as Makya, but my colors will fit in well with the trees, leaves, and the small shards of light filtering in between the foliage, he thought. Llik Meht couldn't wait to get started. Makya Makya was a little uncertain of the talk of shadow walking...but that meant he could finally start hunting, of what though he wasn't quite sure. His new pack was different, colder, but stronger, better adapted; which made him feel stronger, tougher, and confident. "How do we start?" he asked, sitting on his hind legs with his head cocked to one side. If it meant being invisible, that was something he new he could do, he had tried it again and again before he got captured...obviously he had more to learn.Makya starred over at Asher, almost afraid of what would happen if he failed to impress the storyteller. Makya definately did not want to do that! He listened very closely to the storyteller, as he explained how to bend the light. Makya almost felt like he had already experienced that when he was in the woods all alone...running...and hiding. Sometimes when he got very scared he would concentrate so hard on becoming enveloped in the shadows around him. He would close his eyes and chant to himself..."shadow take me, shadow hide me, shadow protect me." Although he wasn't as timid and afraid now that he had found the brotherhood, and his new friend Llikmeht, now he could use the shadows to his advantage and to help his new family, his new brothers.

Firdaws made his way into the wooded area they used as the training grounds for the younger pups. It was a dense area, drier than some parts of the marsh but with ample cover -- plenty of shadows and light playing against the ground to provide practice. He surveyed the pups before him. Was this all? he thought, looking between them. He did a quick mental count. He was thinking they were missing a few pups, but perhaps they were at private lessons. How could he be expected to keep track of this sort of thing?
All this shadow-walking business wasn't even his department to teach. But Xihuitl was long gone doing gods-know-what, and somehow or another the task had fallen on the Huntmaster. Well, no matter. It was an important skill, and if these two wanted to learn it, he'd do his best to explain it.
Of course, they probably had some rather romantic ideas about how all of this worked, and that would need to be stamped out right away. The last thing Firdaws needed to deal with was some lofty-headed pup thinking he could do magic.
Moving gingerly, his rather embarrassing wounds still healing (and making sitting down a right unpleasant experience), the spotted wolf cleared his throat and addressed his students. "Right, then. I'll be teaching you the basics of moving in darkness. I expect you all to practice on your own afterward."
He glanced around again, to ensure nobody else was coming before he got started. He'd hate to get interrupted.
