The Tools of the Almighty were, in the beginning, just that. Tools. The Sword, the Shield, the Lock, and the Key, all created to be used by the Almighty Creature Itself. The Sword and the Shield would allow it to fight, and to defend, to destroy, and to create, while the Lock and the Key would allow it to open things, and to close them, to seal things, and to unseal them. But then it decided to give them souls created from the four basic elements - a soul of Air for the Sword, a soul of Earth for the Shield, a soul of Water for the Lock, and a soul of Fire for the Key - and along with those souls, the Tools gained life. And a Consciousness.
When the Tools where released into the world, still in the form of those four obects, their souls learned to take on living forms that would allow them to shed the form they had as Tools and become living creatures instead. The Sword, whose soul was made of Air, gained a form that was later named the Papilita, and that eventually sprouted an entire race of butterfly-like creatures. The Shield, whose soul was made of Earth, gained a form that were given the name Koroyucu, and it is from this form that, among many others, the bear and the deer developed from. The Lock, whose soul was made of Water, gained a form that was named the Leviathan, and from that form a whole range of water-serpent creatures spawned. The Key, whose soul was made of Fire, gained a form that we now know as the Phoenix, and from which the entire Phoenix race descended from.
As time passed, and they spent more time in the world of Existence, they learned to take on the forms of ordinary people, and they were given names that were taken from the names of their forms, and they became known throughout all of Existence.
Ilita - The Almighty Sword, Medium of Air, and the first of the Papilita! Yu - The Almighty Shield, Medium of Earth, and the first of the Koroyucu! Levi - The Almighty Lock, Medium of Water, and the first of the Leviathans! Nix - The Almighty Key, Medium of Fire, and the first of the Phoenixes!
The energy flowing through the four, and the source of their powers, were the same kind of energy found within the Almighty Creature, so if anyone capable of sensing energy came close to one of them, they would immediately mistake them for being the awakened Sleeping One in mortal form - the Almighty Creature. Because of this, the four were made to be distractions - bait - to keep all harmful creatures and people away from the Sleeping One, and drawing the harm towards themselves instead. This put their lives in great danger, and it became clear that their form as people were far from immortal. They could be killed, just like anyone else. But their souls, created by the Almighty Itself, could never be destroyed, so they were all given the Gift of Rebirth. If they were to die, while in their form as people, they would be allowed to be reborn, and gain new lives as new people.
In one of the first great battles, the four were killed, and then reborn again, and it was then discovered that whenever the four are reborn, they lose their memories of who they are, and what they are, as they are born as ordinary inhabitants of Existence. It was then decided that they needed someone to guide them, and to protect them, so that they could keep doing their job, and continue keeping the Sleeping One safe.
Four very special people were chosen, all strong and wise in their own way, and they were given the task of guiding the four Tools. This task was an eternal one, and they were to watch over the Tool they had been assigned to and make sure that they never strayed from their path, even when they did not remember their true selves. As a reward, the Guides were given the Gift of Rebirth, to make sure that they would be reborn with their Tools if they ever were to die, and so that they would exist eternally.
Then eight more people were chosen, and these ordinary people were blessed with extraordinary powers, and they were given the task of protecting the four and being their personal Guardians. Each Tool were given two Guardians, and these people were to protect them until their deaths. Unlike the Guides, the Guardians were not given the Gift of Rebirth, as it was decided that new Guardians were to be assigned every time the Tools were reborn.
This is how things were decided, early on in the 1st World of Existence.
But things changed, already in their first lives - after their first rebirth - as soon as they had been assigned their first Guardians. It was Nix, the Key and Medium of Fire, as she had been born as a younger sibling, and her older brother was the one whom had been chosen to be one of her two Guardians. The strong bond of sibling love that tied the two together, surpassed anything anyone could have imagined, and, in the end, her brother gave his life to die along her as she died her second death.
This did not go unoticed. His soul was granted the Gift of Rebirth upon its death, as it was decided that he would forever be reborn to be her eternal Guardian, and from that moment on it was decided that if any of the Tools ever were to form such a strong bond to any of their Guardians, they, too, would be granted the Gift of Rebirth to serve as Guardians and exist eternally.
Throughout the entire Existence of the 1st World, things stayed this way without change. But, as they came nearer to the end of the world, it became evident that there were certain things that did not work as well as originally thought. The four would always be reborn if they died, but not unless all four were dead. If only one of the four died, they would not be reborn until the remaining three died as well, and this became a disadvantage to the group. Only when the four stood together would they be at their full strength, so if one, or more, were lost, then their strength would be severely diminished. Likewise, if one of the Guides were to die, they would not be reborn until all of the Tools were dead.
As the 2nd World of Existence was created, it was decided that each of the Tools were to be given a Partner. A person that would follow them, work with them, and, if the Tool were to die, absorb their very essence and become them. This Partner would sacrifice all that they were, to maintain the balance of the four, hosting the essence of the Tool inside them, until the remaining Tools died. In return, they were all granted the Gift of Rebirth, so that they could live once more as a reward for their sacrifice. The Guides, too, were to have someone that could replace them if they died before the Tools, but these people were not given the Gift of Rebirth, as new ones would be assigned every time the Guides were reborn.
And, finally, as the 3rd World of Existence - Arcaiia - was created, another change was made. Instead of just two Guardians, each of the Tools were to have four Guardians protecting them, to strengthen their defence, and each of the Guardians were given one replacement in case of their death. And that is how things have remained, to this very day. Each one of the four original Tools have one Guide, to be their strength and advisor, one Partner, to stand by their side and maintain the balance, and four Guardians around them, to protect them against harm.
And the name that the four original Tools were given, that they are still known as to this day, is the Mahajebs - an ancient word of the 1st World that means "almighty mediums of existence."

Kehljen the Tools of the 2nd World
After the destruction of the 1st World, and the creation of the 2nd World, the Almighty came to see exactly how important the role of the four Tools had been, and decided that only four of them were simply not enough. And so It decided to create four more.
These four new Tools were, in the beginning, created as four powerful creatures with unique forms and abilities. [author's note; exactly what kind of creatures is still unknown to me, so this section is still not completed] and they were to serve as the Almighty's protectors.
Then the Almighty decided to give them the four symbols of the original Tools - the symbol of the Sword for the ??, the symbol of the Shield for the ??, the symbol of the Lock for the ??, and the symbol of the Key for the Ayl'nieva - and this greatly enhanced their powers. Then the Almighty created souls for these creatures - a soul of lava for the ??, a soul of Nature for the ??, a soul of Ice for the ??, and a soul of Lightning for the Ayl'nieva - and along with those souls, the Tools gained intelligence, and a Consciousness.
When the Tools where released into the world, still in the form of those four creatures, it did not take long before they, too, learned to become people, taking on forms resembling those around them, and taking their place as a natural part of Existence. And then, they were given names.
?? - The Almighty ??, ?? of the 2nd World, and Medium of ?? ?? - The Almighty ??, ?? of the 2nd World, and Medium of ?? Eva - The Almighty Ayl'nieva, Key of the 2nd World, and Medium of Lightning! ?? - The Almighty ??, ?? of the 2nd World, and Medium of ??
Though these four new Tools did not share the same energy as the Almighty - like the Mahajebs - they were still fated to protect the world around them, thus placing themselves in harms way, and they, too, were mortal in their forms as people. But their souls, created by the Almighty as they were, could never be destroyed, and so they were given the Gift of Rebirth as well.
It was then decided that these four new Tools - just like the Mahajebs - needed guidance, and so four very special people were chosen, all strong and wise in their own way, and they were given the task of guiding the four new Tools.
Unlike the Guides, the Guardians were not given the Gift of Rebirth, as it was decided that new Guardians were to be assigned every time the Tools were reborn - unless a special bond between the Tool and a Guardian were formed.
The name these Tools were given, that they are still known as to this day, is the Kehljen - an ancient word of the 2nd world that means "holy protectors of existence"

Technical Information on the Kehljens
* Created by the Almighty before Its slumber and after Its creation of the 2nd World, using the power of the four Child Elements. * Does not have the same type of energy as the Almighty and the Mahajebs, and are thus not made to be bait * Primary function is to protect the world, and to back up the Mahajebs and support them with their abilities. * Were originally created as creatures - The ?, ?, ?, and Ayl'nieva - with powers and abilities unique to them, and them alone. (the Kehljen have the ability to take on this form both in every life, as well as inbetween the stages of life.) * Were given the symbols of the Mahajebs - the sword, the shield, the lock, and the key - but can only use the one inside them. (example - the Key Mahajeb controls ALL keys, while the Key Kehljen only controls the one within its soul) * Each have a soul created from one of the four Child Elements; Lava, Nature, Ice, and Lightning. Highly connected to each of their elements. * All have the ability to make use of, or host inside them, the power of all the elements - just like the Mahajebs. * Primary power functions around their original form as creatures, making them able to communicate and command all creatures similar to their form. * Are reborn after each death, into new bodies and lives, but lose their memories every time. Have one or several spare bodies as back-up. * Have one Guide each, but where only given two Guardians - and no Partner. * Can achieve a true Kehljen form that allows access to full power - only obtained through lifetimes of training, or by becoming a summoning.
Author's note:
The Kehljens main source of power is the form that they were created as. Whatever power that form has is the kind of power the Kehljen has to their disposal - along with being able to communicate and command all creatures related to their form. An example is the Ayl'nieva, which is a creature that is constantly producing energy, making sure it never runs out. The Ayl'nieva rarely sleeps, as it has no need to recharge like most other creatures, and it's constantly moving around. The Kehljen with the Ayl'nieva as its form - Eva - is therefore a person that is always very energetic, as if never really running out of energy, and a bit all over the place - and is generally a very cheerful woman with a positive attitude. The Ayl'nieva creatures are also the ancestors of a species of the 3rd world known as the Nievy, and Eva has the ability to communicate with those creatures, as well as command them if she needs to. She can also - when awakened as a Tool - learn to take on her form as the Ayl'nieva, and make full use of whatever powers that form has. Along with the powers scentered around her form, Eva also has Lightning magic, though she very rarely makes use of it on a daily basis, as she mainly just relies on her never-ending source of energy. She also has the key of the 2nd world inside her, which allows her to unseal things, but just like her lightning magic, she very rarely makes use of this.
The other Kehljen As mentioned, their main source of power lies within the original form they were created as. They also have one of the four child elements within them - lava, nature, or ice - though how much they can make use of that elemental magic can vary from person to person, and from one life to another (since the Kehljen are reborn every time they die). They also have one of the symbols of the Mahajebs in them - the sword, the shield, or the lock - that allows for some extra powers they can access, though how much of that power they can use can also vary from person to person, and from one life to another. The sword ability gives the person an upper hand when fighting with swords and blades in general, as they are a natural at all sorts of sword-like weapons - and they also have that one sword inside them that they can call out, and that can never be broken or stolen (since it's a part of their soul). The shield ability gives the person a boost in defence (they can withstand more damage than normal people - both magical and physical), as well as giving them general barrier magic (the type can vary), along with the shield inside them that they can call out. The lock ability gives the person sealing magic of various kinds (natural sorcery, spells, hexes - they can become skilled all types if they train themselves), along with the ability to block magical energies in another person or creature, as well as having that one lock inside them that they can call out (the lock comes with a chain of pure energy that can be used to literally chain someone or something down). It can also be noted that whatever symbol they carry can affect their personality - though that can vary from life to life. The Sword usually makes the person sharp - either in wits, or way of speaking (they may have a sharp tongue) - and may often be known for "cutting" their way through things. The Shield often makes the person more protective of those around them, and more willing to sacrifice themselves for others. And the Lock is known for making the person more closed off and reserved, often with great restrictions on themselves.
What kind of creatures the Kehljen is, aside from the Ayl'nieva, is completely unknown to me. All I know is what kind of creatures they aren't, and that list is as follows: Papilita (though they may be butterfly-like in appearance, as a homage to the first papilita of sorts) Koroyucu (though they may have a bear-like or stag-like apparance) Vaernix (though they may have similar bird-like appearances) Leviathiin (but might be serpent-like in appearance) Dragon (but it can be dragon-like in appearance) Any kind of feline or canine creatures, as the narakin (whom the felines and canines all descend from) was created after the Kehljen. (but it can be feline or canine-ish in appearance)
It is highly likely (though not guaranteed) that the creatures the Kehljen were created as spawned various subraces of their own (like how the Vaernix spawned a whole race of phoenixes, and they also spawned the thunderbirds and various other bird-like species, or like how the Koroyucu is the ancestor of all bear-like races, as well as all deers, moose, reindeer and similar species), and it is also very likely that the Kehljen are chimera-like creatures (as in, they look like a mix of two or more different species). Although they can also be something as simple as a horse - and thus the origin of all horse-like races. Or a fluffy bunny. Who knows~?

Jinthal the Tools of the 3rd World
After the destruction of the 2nd World, and the creation of the 3rd World, the Almighty decided once more to create four new Tools.
These specific Tools were, from the very beginning, created as four powerful souls using the essence of the four Ancient Elements - a Soul of Darkness, a Soul of Light, a Soul of Life, and a Soul of Death - and from the moment of their creation, they obtained a Consciousness.
They were then given four unique forms that only they could take on - the form of the Shalnarin for the soul of Darkness, the form of the ?? for the soul of Light, the form of the ?? for the soul of Life, and the form of the ?? for the soul of Death - and these forms granted them even greater powers than what they originally possessed. And, lastly, they were given the symbols of the Mahajebs - the Symbol of the Key for the soul of Darkness, the symbol of the Lock for the soul of ??, the symbol of the Sword for the soul of ??, and the symbol of the Shield for the soul of ??.
When the Tools where released into the world, still in the form of those four souls, it did not take long before they, too, learned to become people, taking on forms resembling those around them, and taking their place as a natural part of Existence. And then, they were given names.
Rin - the Almighty Medium of Darkness, the first of the Shalnarin, and Key of the 3rd World! ?? - the Almighty Medium of Light, the first of the ??, and ?? of the 3rd World! ?? - the Almighty Medium of ??, the first of the ??, and ?? of the 3rd World! ?? - the Almighty Medium of ??, the first of the ??, and ?? of the 3rd World!
It was then decided that these four new Tools - just like the Mahajebs and the Keljen before them - needed to be protected, and so four people were chosen, and these ordinary people were blessed with extraordinary powers, and they were given the task of protecting the four Tools and being their personal Guardians. Each Tool were given one Guardian, and these people were to protect them until their deaths. Though they were not given the Gift of Rebirth, as it was decided that new Guardians were to be assigned every time the Tools were reborn, exceptions would be made if a special bond between the Tool and a Guardian were formed.
The name these Tools were given, that they are still known as to this day, is the Jinthal - a Shalanteean word that means "sacred guardians of existence"

Technical Information on the Jinthals

Have one or several spare bodies as back-up. * Were only given one Guardian - no Guide and no Partner. * Can achieve a true Jinthal form that allows access to full power - only obtained through lifetimes of training, or by becoming a summoning.
Author's note:
The Jinthal's main source of power is the element their souls were created from, and their control over that element is nearly limitless. For example, the Soul of Darkness - Rin - controls all kinds of magic related to darkness and dark magic. It draws its power from the absence of light, from the space between the stars, and from the shadows all around us, and he can use it in any way he wants. He can travel from one shadow to another - and by creating a mass of darkness around him and the place he wants to go, he can also perform a "shadow-jump" which is a form of teleportation using dark magic - as well as let his darkness devour things around him and simply make them disappear. He also have the powers that comes with his form - the Shalnarin, and he has the key of the 3nd world inside him, which allows him to unseal things, though he has yet to learn to do so. (Rin has yet to awaken as a Tool in this life)
The other Jinthal They draw on the magic of the elements their souls were created from - light, life, or death - using it in all sorts of ways. The light element draws its power from all sources of light - the sun, the moon, the stars, a lamp, a candle; if it gives off light, the Soul of Light can draw power from it. The life element draws its powers from the world itself, and all life there, and they give life back wherever they go - they can heal the wounded, bring life force back to withered plants, and even revive the dead. The element of death draws on all things that come to an end, and their power includes necromancy as well as just simple draining of magic, energy and/or life force - and even, if powerful enough, taking life away with a simple thought. They also have one of the symbols of the Mahajebs in them - the sword, the shield, or the lock - just like the Kehjlen, and that allows for some extra powers they can access, though how much of that power they can use can vary from person to person, and from one life to another. And, finally, they also have the abilities that comes with the creature form they have been given - which entirely depends on what kind of form that is.
Just like with the Kehljen, I have no idea what kind of creature form the Jinthal has. The same list applies here as with the Kehjlen - and, naturally, the Jinthal does not have a form that is the same as any of the Kehljen. Also, it's very likely that whatever form the Jinthal has might have spawned various subraces - though it's not guaranteed.

The Tools Their relations to eachother - and to the Almighty
All of the 12 Tools share a bond between them that is unique to them, and them alone. Though they may not always feel that bond - in certain lives, the Tools might be less perceptive than in others - the bond still remains the same no matter what, and that bond makes it easier for them to get drawn together, and to trust in eachother and to rely on eachother. This creates strong feelings of friendships - sometimes even more (the Tools finding love among themselves have happened more than once) - along with a sense of belonging to one another. As long as they stand together, they are strong - they are wanted, and not outsiders - and they somehow always seem to understand eachother. They feel at ease in eachother's company - even if they have just met - because some part of them, deep inside their soul, feels that bond. Their souls know eachother - they always have, and they always will.
Of course, the bond only shared between the four Mahajebs is stronger, and so is the bond shared between only the Kehjlen, and only the Jinthal, seeing as they were all created at the same time, and thus share a stronger connection. The four Mahajeb was created at the beginning of the 1st World, and although they may have not spent all of their lifetimes together, they have been together for most of them, and thus their souls have had more time to bond with eachother, forming friendships that can never be broken. Every time they die, and gets reborn, they get drawn together somehow, and so they've spent lifetime after lifetime in eachother's company. Likewise, the Kehljen, having been created at the beginning of the 2nd World, has spent most of their lifetimes together, creating bonds between them that can't be broken, and so has the Jinthal after having been created at the beginning of the 3rd World. A Mahajeb will always get drawn towards another Mahajeb, in every lifetime, just like a Kehljen gets drawn towards another Kehljen, and a Jinthal gets drawn towards another Jinthal, which makes it easier for them to find eachother and stick together.
However, there is a different kind of bond between the souls carrying the same symbol - for example, the key Mahajeb, the key Kehljen, and the key Jinthal - which is because their souls are created from the same source, thus making said souls literally siblings. All three Tools carrying the symbol of the Sword are siblings, all three carrying the symbol of the Shield are siblings, and all three carrying the symbol of the Lock are siblings - though this is mainly the case of their souls. Of course, in some lives, they might even be born as actual siblings, as their souls has been drawn together by that strong sibling bond, causing them to be reborn together. This varies from life to life, but very often will they feel that bond - even when they have just met.
The Tools and the Almighty
The four Mahajebs - having been created from the energy of the Almighty itself - shares the same type of energy as it, and thus they will always recognize the Almighty no matter what mortal form it takes on. They can feel its presence, as they get drawn towards the energy the Almighty radiates, which is because they were created to be the personal guardians of the Almighty - and to function as bait to lure enemies towards them and away from the Almighty. There is no doubt that this has created a stronger bond between the Mahajebs and the Almighty, making sure that they always get drawn together in as many lifetimes as possible.
Though the Kehljen and the Jinthal does not share that same bond, nor can they properly recognize the Almighty in its mortal form (unless they are fully awakened as Tools - then they will know it if they meet the Almighty), their senses are still somewhat attuned to the Almighty. If they find themselves to be in the same world as the Almighty in mortal form, there is a part of them that will know so - though they may not always understand that feeling. If they spend enough time in the presence of the Almighty, they will grow more and more certain that there is something about that person, and they will feel a growing urge to be near the person - and to protect it. This is a basic instinct that is found within all the Tools due to how and why they were created in the first place.

Technical Information on the Tools
* They were all created by the Almighty, but lives as a part of Existence as ordinary people. * They get reborn whenever they die - though they forget about their previous life and what they truly are when they do so. * When reborn, their soul is in a state of slumber, and they cannot access their powers as Tools before they are awakened. * Once awakened, they can learn to make use of all of the abilities they have inside them. * Once one Tool is awakened, the others will follow shortly after - as a kind of chain reaction.
* The Mahajebs share their energy with the Almighty, and were made to be bait to lure enemies away from the Almighty Creature. Their true form is that of simple Tools, though they are now fully merged with Existence and can be seen as actual people.
* The Kehljen and the Jinthal does not share the same energy as the Almighty, as they were not created to be bait. They were created to be a part of Existence, and was intended to be people to begin with - not mindless Tools.
* The Mahajebs have one Guide, one Partner, and four Guardians. * The Kehljens have one Guide, and two Guardians. * The Jinthals only have one Guardian, nothing more.
The chosen Guides remember most of their lives (though not all of them), and they always know who the Mahajeb/Kehljen they are assigned to guide is - even before they have awakened as Tools (though it is important to note that there have been exceptions, and cases where the Guides themselves have had no memory of who or what they were, or their task). The Guides stay close to their charge, making sure they stay safe, patiently waiting for them to awaken, and then stepping into their role as Guides once they do. The Tools often form a very strong bond to their Guide, and they will trust them without question. The Guardians are chosen upon their birth, but are not given their full role as Guardian before the Tool they have been assigned to starts awakening. Then they will get drawn towards the Tool, and a bond will quickly form - The Tools can always sense their Guardians, and vice versa. Very often, a psychic link gets created between the Tools and their Guardians, making them able to communicate with eachother even when not in the physical presence of eachother.

Symbols of Existence
You've probably already noticed the symbols in this thread, and you might be wondering why they're there. Why are they so important? And why are they are part of the logo that represents my work - Souls of Arcaiia? Because these symbols represents the three worlds that has been Existence, which makes them three of the most important symbols there is.
The 1st World carries the symbol of the Golden Sun The 2nd World carries the symbol of the Bronze Crystal The 3rd World carries the symbol of the Silver Moon
