Ever had tried to sleep in his own room, for a while -- had sprawled out on the little cot and stared at the ceiling until his whole world had focused down to a bird-like sprawl of something coppery red. It wasn't the bed that was the problem, though it was several inches too short, nor was it the blankets. Not even the dark dankness of the basement had really bothered him, since at least it was a roof over his head and a door that kept strangers from wandering in --

The problem had been Amory, telling him tales of who each of the stains had been, and while Ever found it very unlikely that his weapon had personally known every single one of them...he was a convincing liar.

Even after he'd shut up and told Ever to sleep well, it had send his imagination spinning.

So around four in the morning he'd finally given up, gone for a walk, found his way to a common room, and collapsed [gloriously] into one of the couches. And been asleep almost the second his eyes closed, still fully dressed and wrapped up in his new coat.

Cami had been up at the crack of dawn so that she could start gettin' her jog on with the best senpai that a Sun Trainee could have asked for. The whole time she'd found breath around the track she'd been all but singing about how she was going to go to Disney World and it was going to be the best thing ever. Now it was about breakfast time and...someone was in the common room. Sleeping. Normally the redhead would have walked by because Lord knew she'd done it more than once when coming to Deus. Poor b*****d probably had been sleeping in his basement room.

But, she also knew, that if you got caught one too many times they were going to start loading penalties and punishments onto the poor guy. Some people were stuffy as hell and would go out of their way to make sure that nobody was comfortable as long as the ******** rules were followed. So, gingerly, Camille walked over to bend over the back of the couch to shake the trainee slightly. "Hey, you gotta wake up. You can't stay here long."

The fact that he didn't try to take her head off, didn't jump up or wave a weapon in her face at the contact, was probably a sign of just how new he was. Instead, Ever just started, blinked up at her for a moment, assessed that she wasn't trying to steal anything of his [as if he had anything worth stealing anyway] and then made a quiet noise. Brightly colored blur above him resolved into a pretty girl whose face he had definitely seen, but he couldn't quite place --

"Uh." He didn't sit up, but he did shift to look around the place, wincing as he did. His neck hurt. His back hurt. His legs ached from the rough bunch of denim against skin. At least he'd had the sense to take his boots off and drop them under the couch, which mean worn-thin, mismatched socks dangled over one of the armrests.

"...no? What? What time is it?"

Plucking her phone out of the back pocket of her denim shorts the Caribbean girl held it about a foot away from Ever's nose. "8:30am. Rise and shine, trainee." Though it was a bit of an order her pose was relaxed, smile kind and untroubled, voice light. He was welcome to take his time getting up as long as he did...eventually. "Basement room?" She made the guess, flicking eyes over him in judgement. Like everyone on the island she'd seen him at least once before but couldn't quite pin the name on without having a contact in her phone. Resolving to end that issue she snapped a quick picture of the sleepy Lifer.

Tucking technology back where it had come from she grinned down at him suddenly. "I get sleeping up here if you don't like the basement, I spend actually zero time in my room unless there's someone down there to keep watch." Like Jasper, who she was missing terribly. "But I can tell you, from experience, if you sleep up here too often for too long, you'll get caught and some people get grumpy about it." Was he awake enough to comprehend what she was saying? Again a look flicked over the trainee on the couch, and she shrugged slightly.

"C'mon. We'll get you some coffee or something."

"My room was a torture chamber." It was blurry -- took him far too long to get it to roll of his tongue. As he spoke he fumbled upright, awkward, and her photo would catch him at the worst possible angle: staring up the length of his too-big nose, eyes mostly closed, and half of his hair sticking up epically. As he straightened, wincing again, neck twinging, he patted it down. Mostly.

The boots under the couch were battered but sturdy, steel-toed, taped together. He shoved his feet into them slowly, peering around the room. There wasn't even anyone else here, it seemed ridiculous that he was being thrown out already.

"Are there better ones?"

Trying to follow a train of thought that moved at the speed of smell was not always the easiest thing. Cami, starting to flop against the back of the couch like the lazy slouch she could be when she was feeling sleepy (which she was), she knit her eyebrows for a moment. Mouthing the question silently to herself, facing a direction Ever couldn't see her do it in, the light bulb went off.

"Better rooms? Well yeah, the whole first floor has better rooms but business is booming. I guess you can't move up a floor until you're 100% bona-fide, high-promoted hunter...or get one to let you live with them." She had plans for Otto that he wouldn't agree with but Camille had always been a dreamer who aimed high. Falling and failing wasn't as much a trial to her as others -- she'd done them both too often to care very much one way or the other.

"Basically, supply is not as high as demand. Just pay attention though and you might catch a room if someone uh...leaves." Permanently. "Or is promoted. That's all I know about things though. I asked a lot about it because I guess most of the second floor is totally empty and that's bogus." Super, duper, ultra bogus. Cami had no idea what she would have done without Mimsy's room to crash in.

Been closer to Peyton, maybe.

Laces done up and Ever settled back, squinting up at the girl -- more awake now, but my no means fully awake. He was used to different hours: working six to two, and sleeping while it was light out. If he had to get back to a morning schedule, the next week or so was going to be rough. Especially if he couldn't sleep in his own damned room.

"I guess I have to find someone cute, willing, and legal to shack up with." It was a little more coherent, now; a little more himself. Ever scraped a hand along his jaw as he stood: six feet of gawky twenty-something, with bags still under his eyes that made them look smaller and his nose all the bigger.

"Did you say something about coffee?" It was hopeful, distracted, as he tugged the hem of his shirt down.

Hearing his list of qualifications Cami laughed outright, shaking her head. "Take that list and pick two maybe. You might get cute and willing but totally underage. Of age? Well, they've probably been here long enough that cute isn't all that applicable." Looking him over it was impossible not to notice that Ever was rough around the edges, a little worse for wear before coming to the island, and she shrugged. "Then again my idea of cute comes out of a magazine. Yours might not which would be a little more convenient."

Picking herself up from the couch where she'd been slouched the redhead beckoned with a finger. "Come with me and you'll be in a world of pure imagination. But yes, coffee. Hot, delicious, life-bloody coffee." It wasn't hard to find the kitchen and it was less hard to find the coffee maker and everything you needed to put in it. Cami had been to college. Cami knew how to make coffee because you did not sit up doing treatises on colonization's effects on the Caribbean social strata without lots and lots of it.

Once it had perked she pushed a cup in front of Ever (because she was nice like that) and plunked down the creamer and sugar. Some people were snobs about taking it black and that was all well and good but she drank her coffee in a shade not too unlike her skin. "You haven't been awake long, huh?"

Apparently Ever, too, liked his coffee sweet as hell -- or, in truth, maybe he just wasn't all that fond of coffee. He'd dump packet after packet in, followed by a dollop of sugar, enough to wash away the cloying bitterness of the drink. At home, this wasn't his style. A simple cup of tea, preferably with honey instead of sugar, was one of the few edibles he actually paused to enjoy. But with his head pounding and body still dragging behind him, this would serve.

He was still tired enough that he almost replied not long at all, you just ******** woke me. It only took him a beat to figure out what she meant, though; out of the pod, the strange dreams, the deaths. Ever scrubbed at his eyes, trying not to think about it, even as Amory whispered in his mind.

// Going to ask anyone if all that really happened? //

"No." A pause; he peered up at her, redirecting his answer in her direction.

"Not long at all. Still figuring s**t out, I guess. This helps, though." He raised his glass, like a toast, and drank. "Is it okay if I grab something to eat, too? I probably should..."

Kidana, it seemed, had a prejudice against coffee. That was going to be a problem because as she watched Ever empty more sugar than a packet of Fun Dip had into her coffee, the redhead was treated to another tirade on how she should put more natural things into her body. Pretty interesting coming from the Ghost of Mistakes Past but that was part of why she didn't mind so much the lectures. Plus, really, Ki couldn't hold a candle to Camille's mother. No one could.

Sipping, sighing at the warmth of it rushing down into her stomach, she shrugged at the question. "Go nuts. I don't think anyone's dumb enough to keep food in here that isn't communal because, well, it'll end up communal anyway." Maybe some poor kid who'd never had a roommate or siblings might try it but she doubted it ended well. "I already ate before I went on my jog because, good God, jogging on an empty stomach is a nightmare. It'll perk you up even more though." And then, her lips curved.

"Then, trainee, we can work on getting that blood moving by going down to the training fields." Oh this was going to be fun. Cami hadn't had a real spar in a few days so potentially press-ganging Ever into sparring with her was...well. It was either going to be very good or very bad. Looking down at his steel-toed boots, her own tennis shoes, she frowned. Then shrugged.

Maybe she'd learn a thing or two.

He gave her a look over the remains of his coffee that was both skeptical and nervous -- because when pretty girls almost half a foot shorter than him suggested they got into a fight, he figured that meant they usually had some kind of ace up their sleeve. Still, simply interacting with another person was enough to rejuvenate Ever some.

He rose out of his chair to grab something quick, simple, and portable, finishing his coffee even as he did. For all that sugar he'd added, he had barely even taken the time to taste the coffee. "...how does that work, exactly? I mean. I have a weapon that pretty much looks like it's only good for killing people."

Snagging a croissant that had been sitting out she started to nibble regardless of the fact she hadn't been all that hungry to begin with. Ever's question had her blinking for a second before she grinned all over again. "That's basically the point. Though nobody bothered to tell me, before my first fight, that we're shielded against serious harm. You'll hurt as if someone were to punch you but say I were to stab you in the heart?" A shrug. "It'd just feel like I punched you in the chest. I haven't really tested the limits yet so I'd appreciate if you win you don't actually try to take my heart out of my chest when I'm unconscious. Or something." Vote of confidence? Check.

Totally.

Resting her chin in the palm of her hand she let out a bit of a sigh. "You're Life, right? I vaguely remember Pey saying something about that the other night. I'm Sun. Means that my life is basically spar, spar, spar, put life on line for cause. Sparring's not so bad though." Said the archer.

In reply, Ever twisted in place -- spreading his arms so she could get a good look at the branches that twined up the back. Life, most certainly, even at a glance, and he turned back around to shove an overly large bite of food into his mouth. It meant, of course, that he couldn't talk, so instead he gestured vaguely toward the door, questioning.

Were they going, or were they chatting? he chewed, slowly, and then swallowed. "I've been in a few fights, but never for fun. Mostly to keep my face from getting pounded into the pavement, with varying levels of success, and a couple times when the bouncers at work were slow to react..."

An eyebrow raised. That eager? Well, she didn't blame him, the sooner they did this the sooner he'd probably be able to go back to sleep. Hell, the sooner she'd be able to go back to sleep! There was a pillow calling her name back in Mimsy's bedroom and if she didn't clean the avatar statute today well, she wasn't supposed to be doing that anyway. Who would scold her? Bouncing up off her stool, leaving the dishes behind for whomever pulled that particular bullshit duty for the day, the magenta-hued bundle of Sun energy moved for the door.

Out on the grounds she worked their way down to the training fields, realizing she was very likely going to get her a** kicked. Again. Sighing she started to explain the process to Ever. Fear shields, about how they couldn't get seriously hurt but if one of them said to stop, they'd stop. No weapon charges. She didn't even really understood how they worked yet, anyway, so using them was probably not the greatest idea.

"Well, you'll probably win then." Once they were on the training grounds she materialized her longbow, sighing a bit at it. "Kidana's wonderful but in close-combat one-on-one it's not remotely optimal." She patted the frame of her beloved partner lightly, as if in apology. Apparently it was accepted.

For his part, Ever settled opposite her -- pausing, for just a moment, to roll his shoulders, to strip off his coat. He was supposed to wear it all the time, he knew, but it was too damned hot under the Bermuda sun in all those layers. He twisted in place to toss it away, draped carelessly over a rock, and slid fingers through his hair. Beneath his shirt was paper thing, with holes in the sleeves, holes in the hem, but damned if it didn't look comfortable, at least...

"Do you have to always use the weapon?" It was a genuine question, his eyebrows knitted together as he considered. "I mean, I read some, I know you have to use Fear to attack, but..."

He shrugged, tipped his head, rolled his shoulders and blinked across at her.

"Couldn't you also use a bit of hand-to-hand?"
