Well fellow Alliance members Rina's been out and about strongly suggesting that we might be getting another Prom on Gaia again. If we're getting another Prom then we're going to be needing an event thread for it. Aside from telling people about the Alliance, linking to our GCD thread, linking to the Public Records thread, and linking back here to the guild we're going to need some other things to do within the thread to really get people wanting to hang out and check out the Gaia side over in our thread and here in the guild. We'll need ideas for possible contests, games, freebies, and giveaways that we can easily run that will attract people to the event thread and get them to check out the GCD thread and eventually the guild.
Right now the guild has a little over fifty million in gold funds to play around with but we could always use more. The mule inventory that I will allow to be used for prizes and handouts is mostly a lot of event items and freebies along with some recent animated emotes, a letter from April 2008, and some Golden Aviations. I'm prepared to donate a five pack of the Townies gold shop animated item generator for possible prizes but we could always use more stuff to hand out. We don't know when this possible party Rina's been talking about will happen so we need to be prepared.
So let's get to planning our first event thread!
What I'm looking for from you are things you know work in event threads to keep people around to do more than bump and run and things that draw you into an event thread.

You can have an dice roll set at 100 for 20d20s. Place the big prize there. It will bump the thread. Then, if it is not won toward the end, raise the number. Also, a raffle could get back some of the gold lost.

I'll chip in some Gold- Tbh I don't have a whole lot, but as I've heard my whole life "Every little bit helps". As for some contests I was thinking on a Best Dressed; Like, whose prom outfit was nicely put together, and the person could be rated on how well everything matches. And we could allow "couples" (more like friends who want to attend Gaia Prom) to enter together, and the best matching ensemble could win a fancy prize! The first game that came to mind is: Dress the Captain; She's late to prom, her date will be at the door at any second, and the best-looking thrown together outfit to come out of it wins a nice prize. Freebies I'm not really sure?- "A Free Hug from Sinistro"? I don't know. Lol These are just ideas to get things flowing!

@ Gumby: Those are good starts but I'd also like to have some stuff that would encourage people to also stick around and chat too. I've found you get more out of an event thread as a participant if people are chatting and hanging out instead of treating it like a bump and run.
@Sin: You really don't have to donate but it's nice of you to offer. I was thinking of maybe doing an avatar contest for the event so that's a very definite possibility. Maybe we could do the "couples" aspect as maybe a Prom King and Queen deal. If TekTek is up and running at near full speed by then we could have something like that be a good theme for a TekTek contest.
For freebies I was thinking if someone did art and wanted to do quick chibis or maybe "Prom Photos" where people submit their avatars and someone works up a graphic that looks like a photo of them. Pretty much on top of things you know work in an event thread I'm looking for the kind of things that draw you into an event thread. Because there's only so many "Dress Bartob" styled TekTek contests and light role-play themes you can do before it becomes the same old same old.

My girlfriend, Lordress Viper, would LOVE to be one of the artists to do the Prom Photos- Just so long as the Avatars in question are simple (she thinks her art skills aren't that "up there", but I've seen different! She's a great artist)!

All the help and volunteers we can get the better. It doesn't have to be super fancy and super involved. If she can do simple quickie sketches and chibis (because they seem to be the quickest for some artists to knock out during an event) I'd love to have her on board.
Doing a prom king and queen contest for, say, a prize of one item with a crown pose per person in the winning couple would a blast. Especially if we work up the campaigning for votes in a way that doesn't violate the ToS. It could be a part of the whole light role-play aspect of the thread.
I even know exactly what the whole setting for the Role-Play aspect of the thread would be, the Porta Denia High School's Senior Prom. xp
A Prom you say? Oh, yes, we must be the best in show for this one.

Perhaps these things won't be relevant, but when there's a hint of an event, I always try to figure out what's been done before in terms of items. Even if the prom idea turns out false, there's always the possibility of a user-run one~
I was going to say art freebies because people seem to always like those during events...maybe even some quote games where someone would find an item (which is a picture of the lost item) someone lost at the party. The picture would be placed in a previous post somewhere within the event thread. Whomever finds the hidden pic of the lost item and quotes it would be the winner of the quote game.

Okay so the new event sprang up on us without warning so it looks like we're going to have a Spring Fling instead of a Prom. Still it looks to be a fancy dress ball kind of an event. I'll get to working on the guild thread for the event.
So here's what we can do on such short notice, like we were given a day to plan.
✖ Best Dressed Avatar Contest ✖ Spring Fling King and Queen couples Avatar contest ✖ A 50/50 raffle where we raise funds for the guild and give out half of what we raise (Pretty easy random number generator styled raffle) ✖ Freebie Spring Fling "photos" - Either freebie art or freebie graphics using people's avatars. ✖ Dice roll
If anyone wants to donate any items to hand out that's great. I'm going to pick up a bunch of Townie emote generator packs from Loyal once I get the thread worked up. So let's make this a reality gang!
Ok I'll see what I can donate and I'll get back to you...or send a trade right away. I'll see if I can raise funds too and let people know about the upcoming event.
...and I also do somewhat okay avatar art so maybe I can drop a few freebies during the event but it'll all be traditional art if that's alright with you.

I can handle everything since this will be the only event thread I'll be running so if you don't think you'd be able to do it it's no huge deal.
