With the threat of the cah no longer lingering (as if Sam would lose to such baser creatures), Levi turned his grimace in the direction the youngster had fled off to. He'd hardly even seen the small Khehora before it pelted from the fray, but Levi sure was upset about it nonetheless. "If my children are ever so ungrateful or spineless, I'll beat them over the head myself. Give them something to really be afraid of." He snapped irritably. It was probably a lie, of course. Oblivion doubted he'd ever do more than swat at any Orakoi he may have, but that certainly didn't mean he would condone such a useless attitude.

Sam smiled waywardly as he plodded over to Levi's side. Personally, he hoped all of his children were smart enough to flee should the opportunity present itself. Strange Khehora fluttering into battle could easily be a blessing or a curse. If it came right down to it, he'd rather his younglings escape safely than spend their time thanking some stranger for coming to the rescue. "She was just scared." He purred soothingly at the Diabi as he leaned down to rub the side of his face against Levi's neck. "Anyway, you wanted to take me somewhere, right?" Sam beamed brightly.

Levi sighed. Yeah, he had had plans... He couldn't let something as silly as this deter him and ruffle his feathers. With a huff, he leaned onto his haunches to like at a silky dark patch along his flank, smoothing the feathers down into order once more. "Don't dally, then. Let's be on our way." Sam had been the one that had pulled them down to investigate. No more side-tracking. Oblivion fanned his wings and weaved up into the trees, careful not to scrape himself against the branches. Sam followed, and they set out into the night once more.

As they flew, he vaguely wondered if he should warn the Gaili that there was a slight chance that they wouldn't be welcome. Levi's family had been nothing short of disowned from the clan when he'd still been pretty young, so there was a faint chance they wouldn't recognize him... Or maybe they'd think he'd matured enough by now, and- Bah, whatever. If they turned aggressive or brash, then Sam would surely defend him. The Diabi hummed in amusement. he would enjoy watching that, actually...

But that was neither here nor there. Levi's mother had only ever lain the one egg, which was fine by the Diabi. More attention for him. But it also meant she didn't have the experience that some of the other mothers had. Oblivion though that just having one egg was actually terribly depressing, especially for two parents. They each needed a youngster to care for, right? Yes, two was the perfect number. And he wanted to find a female of his old clan and talk to her about how she'd raised her young ones. It would be a good experience for Sam and Oblivion, surely.

He remembered a Firani Orakovan female. She'd always seemed reasonable to him. Didn't discriminate against young ones, even if she disliked the parents. And she'd had at least three eggs the last time Levi had seen her, many years ago now. Still, he hoped she didn't have many negative memories of him personally, then she might tell him and Sam the secret of the orakoi... He was only a touch nervous of being shunned by the clan before he reached her... Even if it was unlikely that such a group could really hold a grudge against someone like him so adamantly.

Oblivion rolled his shoulders then turned back to Sam. "Well, let's... head on down..." If the Gaili noticed his uncertainty, he didn't comment on it. Instead the two glided back down. They were actually many miles away from where Levi's mother and father had made their nest, and probably right around where they would find the old clan's nesting grounds. Or so Levi hoped. It was probably unlikely that they'd moved the entire group of Khehora. Right? Levi stood straight and strolled ahead of Sam, refusing to show any uncertainty in here.

They'd only walked a few paces, when Sam commented in no uncertain terms, "Levi, there's nothing here..." Nothing but dark trees, grasses, and the wind rustling through them.

Levi looked around. Sam didn't even know what they were after. But... He was right. There was nothing. No recently-used nests. No Khehora-y smells. No smells. If they'd been even remotely close at any time recently, there would be some kind of smell, at least, right? Levi's tail twitched. He plodded a few more steps, dragging his claws through the grass and brushing his maw against the dark leaves. "I... guess you're right." He grumbled, feeling a bit dejected about it, really.

Sam tipped his head. "Let's walk a little farther. Maybe we'll find something." Levi shrugged carelessly and trotted to Sam's side. "So, what were you going to show me?"

Levi glanced from the corner of his eye. The sky was black and the forest was dark. It seemed unlikely that Sam would want to search too far. And without even a scent or trail to guide them, it really seemed like a waste of time. "I wanted to show you the Orakoi of my clan... Maybe meet one of the mothers." Sam opened his mouth, and Levi could already just guess what he was going to say. "I know you've seen little ones and lived around the mothers of your clan. But my clan is different. Different perspective. And I don't think that's bad. I'd be interested in learning all I could, from everyone I could learn it from if I really had to take youngsters under my wing. That's... their lives I'd be protecting. It's important."

When Oblivion looked back to his companion, it was obvious that Sam was completely dumbstruck by the level and depth of thought he'd put into this. Levi did his best to hide the smug satisfaction at the Gaili's stupefied expression. "I have put some thought into it." Oblivion informed him.

"Well, I've-! I've thought about it a little." Sam admitted. "But just... since you mentioned it... It didn't seem like a very useful thing to think about before."

Levi decided not to comment on how strange it was that Sam hadn't put much thought into a nest before and was now suddenly hooked on it. The way the Gaili said it made it sound like some kind of split-second decision. And it shouldn't be. At all. By any means. Oh well. If he seemed to dwindle in his desire... It wasn't as though they were obligated to adopt a clutch of eggs. Not yet, anyway. "Let's head home for now. There's really no need to rush anything, I suppose." The Diabi shrugged.

Sam agreed with a nod, and the two prepared to take to the sky. As Levi's hind claws left the ground, something snagged his tail. At first, he thought it was his Gaili companion, but when his eye caught Sam ahead of him, flapping through the trees. With a confused gasp, Levi glanced back and saw only shadows as he was yanked back to the ground. Shock coursed through him. "Sam!" He howled as he noticed a large black claw reaching from the shadows.

A Diabi dragon.

They could bend the darkness to their wills like Oblivion himself could. Levi was very confident in his abilities. He was not confident in taking on a full-grown Diabi on his own.

Of course, he wasn't alone.

Sam came crashing down on that claw on all fours, stamping it down into the ground. The attached dragon melded from the shadows with a roar. While the Gaili Khehora took care of it with much gusto and vehemence, Oblivion inspected his tail for damage. The dragon had sheared off a few feathers. While it was hardly noticeable, Levi still found himself horribly annoyed. Annoyed and agitated that anyone, dragon or otherwise, would even dare to try and mar his lovely coat.

When a second Diabi appeared to aid the first, Levi moved to Sam's side. He didn't know how much use he would be when all he could wield was shadow magic of his own. At best, he could probably stop the dragons' magical assaults. And that was good enough. Sam moved in, slamming his tail on the ground and summoning a barricade that swamped over one of the dragons. While the creature was stunned from that attack, Sam shot forward with bared fangs and claws, ripping through scales and soft underbelly to land one win.

Levi ducked and weaved around the other, using his magic to keep him from harm. Here on Soudul, in this darkness, everything may as well be a weapon or a shield. The Diabi knew that. Sam was learning. Levi bound it with darkness, catching it around one hind limb while Sam landed the finishing blow, sending a boulder arcing out to crash into its skull.

The two deceased beasts dissolved. But even though they were gone, a rumbling still lingered. "Where is it?" Sam growled irately, a challenge to the beast to show itself.

The rumbling continued, and Levi sought it out with his magic, feeling along through the shadows for something that didn't belong. When he formed back at Sam's side, he gestured through bushes and trees until they found the half-shrouded form of a young dragon, no larger than an adult Khehora. "It's... a young one, Sam..." Levi grumbled as the dragon cowered away from them, still emitting a high growl.

"It's still a dragon, Levi." Sam retorted remorselessly. "It can hardly defend itself now, but when it grows it will be a danger. Diabi are powerful. And this is no exception. We should- Oh."

Sam cut off as Levi's black magic wrapped around it, heedless of how old, young, or powerless it was. The young beast had already exhausted its stores of magic while trying to hide, and it could do nothing to fend off Oblivion's suffocating powers. Nothing except writhe.

When it was finally still, Levi turned back to Sam to see horror on his face. "You said it should die." Levi said with a careless shrug.

"I'd... hoped for something a little quicker..." Sam murmured, as the small dragon faded to ash and dust.

Levi only snorted and moved to collect his well-earned orbs. Dragons were dragons no matter what age they were. Young and weak or aged and powerful, he didn't care. As long as he had the ability to quash them, he would do so mercilessly. If it was between his young and the dragons' young, he would always choose his own kind, even if Sam had any uncertainties himself.
