He had noticed that during his time here, missions and his own personal studies had sidetracked him from other projects he wanted to be better experienced in. One was his runic weapon clearances, which he had started but never fully completed all the courses. Most of the courses being the ones not associated with Life or Moon and were very rough to complete. The other project was runic crafting. Being a lifer, he wanted to be experienced in everything he could to be more useful on the field. He had been poking Harrison from time to time to learn more first aid, but runics were something he was sure could be valuable later on. If nothing, he could hope that he could maybe be of some use to the runic department from time to time and in turn cut the cost of his own runic conversions for items in the future.
There was on additional perk to runic crafting, and despite being dangerous, it was the swimming. Melvin hadn’t had the pleasure to swim in a long time, a pastime he enjoyed all his life, but due to all the monsters and no pool for anyone but full hunters, he was left to just stare at the ocean and sigh. He couldn’t even take a long bath due to a shared shower room.
Runic stone hunting was something that allowed him to be productive but also swim, so on that morning, beach towel and swimming googles in hand, he went to Sun swimming department to gather the air tank to breath and set out to go swimming.
He made sure everything was in working order, set his things on the beach, and then went into the water, ready to gather as many stones as he could.

Step One In the water surrounding the island there's numerous edlritch horrors of the deep waiting to attack your hunter.
Roll 1d6 1: a massive sea creature attacks you. Roll 1d20 to escape its gaping maw. If you roll 10+ you escape it, if you roll below you receive 10 damage and need to try again. 2: a bus-sized sea creature attack you. It has 30 HP and 5 auto damage. You can escape it by rolling 1d20 and getting 13+, failure results in auto damage. 3: a small-sized sea creature attack you. It has 15 HP and 3 auto damage. You can escape it by rolling 1d20 and getting 15+, failure results in auto damage. 4: you are safe. 5: you are safe. 6: you are safe. For the constant treat of attack, Melvin's decent down under the island was actually rather refreshing. It was nice to pretend, just for a second, he was on vacation. That was until Saliva pipped up to warn him he could be swallowed whole at any moment or torn apart with razor-like teeth. He decided pretending probably wasn't smart.
He did enjoy the simple swim down, and was in awe at the amount of caves and sea life under Deus.

Step Two Some of the caves house many useful stones, other house things waiting to kill you. You can keep on collecting for as long as your willing to risk it (or until you die.)
Roll 1d8 1: A few stones! Roll 1d4 to see how many you find in this cave! 2: Sentient sea weed aggressively gropes you! Roll 1d4 to see how much damage it does! 3: A nice amount of stones! Roll 1d8 to see how many you find in this cave! 4: Tentacles! Roll 1d8 to see how much damage they do! 5: A bunch of stones! Roll 1d10 to see how many you find in this cave! 6: This area becomes permanently mob free and reveals a large cache of stones, roll 1d20 to see how many you find in this cave! 7: The mermaids guarded several large, dark caves that are now open to explore. Hundreds to thin, snake-like tendrils shoot out from the darkness. Roll 1d12 to see how much damage they do! 8: The mermaids guarded several large, dark caves that are now open to explore. What appears to be a cave full of inviting stones is actually a huge toothy maw, patiently waiting to devour you. Roll 1d20 to see how much damage it does! The slopping curve down to the ocean floor looked more like a river bottom, where smooth sand was dotted with mounds of small stones. It was amazing how these tiny rocks were actually the basis for a lot of the power on Deus. Pulling out the small netted bag at his side, he leaned down and started to pick up rocks.

What appears to be a cave full of inviting stones is actually a huge toothy maw, patiently waiting to devour you. Roll 1d20 to see how much damage it does! There were a lot of caves here. More than he ever expected. It was crazy that there was essentially an underwater town of sorts down here. Had anyone really explored these caves fully?
He wondered as he swam into one carefully.

Quote: 5: A bunch of stones! Roll 1d10 to see how many you find in this cave! Now here were the stones he needed. A nice set, and he gathered as many that didn't chip in half or look as if they were just dirt clumps. He collected a handful before closing his bag and swimming out. This wasn't so bad.HP: 50/50 Stones Found: 8

Going longways, he went down and looked from the town into another cave before turning his body and swimming inside. It went a bit deeper than the other, but just as it went a little too dark, he found the stones he needed. Maybe he should get a runic, underwater lamp for next time.

Quote: 4: Tentacles! Roll 1d8 to see how much damage they do! In theory, it was a tentacle. What it actually looked like was a white tentacle with a strange, white fur growing out of it that moved with the air current and did not look inviting to touch. He could feel it stinging his skin through his suit and he kicked out to free himself before swimming out of the cave. HP: 42 Stones Found: 16

As he left the cave and got a bit of distance, he looked back to see that the creature did not follow. Actually, as he looked around, he saw none of the mermaids or creatures from before around. The entire area was eerily silent and he wondered if the appearance of the tentacle had made the creatures vanish. That or something else had spooked him.
Looking around and seeing no ominous shadow, he decided to seize the lucky moment and go towards one of the once-guarded caves.

Keeping his eye out, he swam into the nearest, once-guarded cave and looked around. Indeed there were stones, more than he found in the other caves, he and quickly started to place them in his bag. It wasn't until he heard something outside that he closed his bag and swam out just in time to see a few mer-people heading this way. Luckily, they didn't spot him stealing their things.

Just as he turned away from the mermaids to find cover, he found the tentacles that had once tried to grab him from before. The creature itself was indeed furry, looking like a strange blob, but he saw now that the waving fur was actually stingers on it's body and it changed from white to gray to a strange spotted pink as it reached out and went to grab at him again.
It really wanted to taste Hunter today.

Instead, he seemed spooked by the mermaids and swam right back into its cave. HP: 38 Stones Found: 26

Checking the cave entrance and the area around it, he went inside.
