Otto never ventured into the basement. He'd never really had a reason to. For one thing, it was dark. For a second thing, it was dark. Otto was fiercely afraid of the dark. Dark, damp places often reminded him of his entrapment in the Horsemen Cave. It wasn't a place he cared to go to. But he decided to go there now. He wanted to talk to Kostya. Texting an apology seemed insincere. In hindsight, he could have just called and asked him to meet upstairs. That was his thought as he found himself in a dark hallway, lined with bars and doors, holding the brightest flashlight he could find. He shook. Trembled. This had been a terrible idea. So he tried to find his way back. Somehow? He'd gotten himself lost.

The hunter basement was rumored to be once a dungeon that many died, it was really really dark that you couldn't even see your hands without a flashlight or lantern. The corridor was a really long and straight one consisted of 99 rooms but even with the lighting, you couldn't really see what was in front of you. Otto surely picked the wrongest timing to visit the basement, it was so quiet. If he continued to walk into the deeper unknown darkness, there was a very weak but sad sobbing from the front. When he got closer but still within a long distance, he could vaguely see a girl figure curled up and sat on the ground. She was wearing a bleached whit dress and her long black hair completely covered her face, bare foot. The sobs didn't go away with time. All factors suggested that she should be a ghost, but on Deus Island, no Halloween creatures could get in. Still, it might feel creepy to see a little white girl figure blocking his way in darkness. If Otto decided to use the flashlight on the figure, he might find the she at far temporarily stopped from crying and looked at him. Just staring him without saying anything. Stare.

Otto hitched his breath, suddenly holding it in as he heard the faint sobs. This place wasn't haunted, was it? Just his luck. As a hunter on duty, he had an obligation to investigate. As a boy afraid of the dark? . . . He moved forward anyway. He could feel himself begin to lose the ability to breathe. His adrenaline told him he was in danger, and death would surely come quick if he dared go further. The slim sliver of reason he had left inside told him this was a fear he needed to conquer, If not, he'd get himself or others hurt. It didn't make it easier. His nerves worked against him, making every step, every breath, physically painful. The girl looked up as he shone his flashlight at her. The build up of adrenaline had Otto suddenly shout in fear, accidentally dropping his flash light. s**t! He couldn't see her now. What if it was a dangerous ghost? What if he got his light again, and she was suddenly right in front of him? Otto fumbled to the floor to grab the light again. He wanted to run away. He needed to run so badly.

Otto probably didn't watch many ghost movies or read about the safety advice when you encounter a ghost, they will haunt you when they know they can see them, so the best way is to ignore. Unluckily, his yell totally alerted the white figure. She stood up, slowly walking towards the hunter, however in the darkness, Otto would see that. When he crouched down to search for the flashlight, the figure began to speak with her feeble sobful voice. "I am lost. I can't find the way back." There were a series of light sobs followed. "Don't leave, please stay with me." The voice was low but it seemed getting closer and closer. Since the figure didn't wear any shoes, her steps didn't make any obvious sounds. Otto therefore couldn't gauge the distance between them easily. "Help me." The voice was finally like a whisper near ear.

No way. No ******** way. Otto froze as he heard the girl speak. This had to be a ghost. Or maybe he was imagining it. No normal person walked around in a white dress and no shoes, with long hair whispering and sobbing. When she whispered help me, Otto stopped breathing for a moment. All sound died for that moment, his ears felt as if they were stuffed with cotton. When he did breathe again, it was a sharp inhale. Almost a squeak. His curled himself into a ball, holding his head and repeating over and over; "Wakeupwakeupwakeup...."

It was so hard to locate Otto's position out of darkness if he didn't make some noises. The petite figure, the huntress known as Shu watched another hunter curled up and mumbled in a very weird way. She got closer and pulled the sleeve of his clothes (or hunter coat if he wore it). "You are not dreaming, please help me." She cried. "I am lost, please help me." to find her way back to her room. The Asian girl was panicked that she found herself sleep-walking into the middle of the corridor, not bring any lights or wearing shoes. The floor was very cold and she didn't know which direction was the correct way back, so after a while helpless, she couldn't bear the silence and the horror it may imply and burst into tears. She didn't know how long she had been staying alone. So when she saw someone appeared, she clung to him without hesitation but he seemed to be reluctant and wanna leave. No way. Who knows if she let him go how much longer she has to wait for another one. She pulled harder, and with a forlorn voice, she begged again. "I don't want to stay, please take me with you." back to my room. "Please don't leave," me alone, "Stay here." with me. She was so nervous, afraid that the hunter she grabbed would get away in the next second and left her alone in all the darkness. So she didn't mind to repeat one after another, to him, her voice was feeble out of tiredness and seemed like a shivering whisper. The coldness immersed from her foot to her body, she was freezing. He was her last hope to get out, she won't let go. "Please don't be afraid." Maybe her look was in a very horrible condition, especially she knew her hair would be a mess when she just woke up from bed. "Help me." The tiny white figure wept very sadly, Otto may feel her hand was icy cold if he wore a short sleeved top.

Her hands were like ice against his bare arm, sending a horrible chill up his spine and through his whole body. It wasn't a dream, but there was no way she could be human right? She kept weeping and begging for him to stay. To help. He wouldn't stay here. It was cold. It was dark. He was scared. " Help with what?" Otto asked in a struggling tone, trying to hide his fear and trembling.

The white figure, also known as Shu, sniffled and looked at where the voice of another person came from, it was too dark to see his face, but she was rather dissatisfied at his question. Did he listen to her? Even she knew he couldn't see it, her cheeks were puffed up, feeling easier with the presence of him in this endless darkness. She dislikes dark place, it reminded her of the room she was locked up. "I need your help, I need to find my way back." The tone might be a bit impatient, her hand grabbed harder. "It's too cold here, I forgot to wear shoes." The petite girl made a quiver, wishing the person could take action and led her back to her room. "Are you listening?" She asked, hand was intended to wave in front of his eyes from a distance, yet, because of the wrong gauging, she swept across his face instead. "Do you want to help me, where's your flashlight?" There were only two consequences: One, the figure was just a human girl. Two, she was a ghost and waiting for him to switch on the light so that she can scare him with a horrible close-up. Which would be the correct answer, Otto?

The more frustrated Shu got, the more Otto came to his senses. He was still terrified. He hated the dark, and not being able to see. However, she seemed less a ghost, and more a small, lost girl. He felt for his flashlight, lighting it onto the girl who clung s tightly. She was small, very small. Asian. She almost seemed like a child. "I didn't realize Deus recruited little kids as hunters..." He murmured, suspicious. He was unsure if he should trust Shu. She could be some wayward Halloween girl trying to lure him to his doom. The floor was cold. The basement was cold. "Why did you leave your room without shoes?"

The white dress was her sleepwear, and she should be already sleeping if not she sleepwalked. When there was a sudden light struck at her which made she squinted and a mini headache. The grasp was weaker as she drew back in reaction. Since it was so quiet, Shu could hear what he said, "Not a kid." She pouted, lips had a tendency to become that of a duckling. "You are also a big kid..." The big was a credit to his height. Yes, the floor was cold and she was shaking because her feet were touching directly to the ground. She didn't want to tell someone that she sleepwalked, it was so embarrassed to tell but she decided to be honest this time, if he can help her out. "Sleep-walking, and found myself here." She put a foot onto another, hoping it would be better. Shu felt like uncomfortable as if she was being interrogated. Waking up at night was a bad thing, and staying at a place she didn' know was even worse. She sniffled.

Otto narrowed his eyes, "Ain't a kid neither." He grumbled in response. He supposed his baby face would never let up, even if he was a bit taller now. The girl had slept walked, and her feet looked to be turning blue. Not only that, she looked to be crying again. Otto grimaced, wanting only to run out of this place and back to the light of upstairs. "So you woke up in the hall and can't find your room." Otto grumbled, "Where is it? I'll carry you so you don't catch a cold, but you gotta stop whining." After all, if she walked on the cold floor any longer she'd likely get ill. Even a Hunter Shield could only do so much with prolonged exposure.

Baby face was an advantage but also a curse sometimes, not to mention her height. Shu wasn't surprised he wasn't a kid, she just wanted to fight back. The petite girl nodded as a confirmation and her eyes widened with sparkles as he mentioned the word "carry". "Really? You will CARRY me?! You are sooooooooo nice!" She glomped on Otto, thinking she could forgive him if he did so. "Room is B04, let's gooooooooooo~" The girl happily commanded, treating it as a mini adventure as she temporarily forgot they were still in the darkness. If Otto was familiar with the room number, he would find that her room was just next to Kostya 's. "Have you been to the basement before? Did you hear any weird things of it like the bugs or torture devices?" When she was no longer afraid, it was chat time.

Otto grunted as he was flung a little hunter girl. Luckily, she was very light thanks to her size. Begrudgingly, he carried the girl in one arm while holding the flashlight in the other. Lucky Shu, he had strong upper body strength thanks to Tenya. Of course, since he was kind of lost himself, he had to check every door number to make his way to B04. "Not really. I try and avoid it at all costs." Otto murmured, his heart still beating wildly in terror of the dark. He tried his best to sound calm by keeping his voice low. "I heard about the bugs... not the torture stuff. Why the Hell do you people live down here again?"

Grumpy hunter is grumpy, but it's no use to Shu. The girl peeked at Otto and compared him with the tallest hunter she knew, she was impressed that he looked so slim but could carry her without difficulties. She blinked and blinked, curiously stared at the hunter with a "I am interested" smile. Seeing him checking the number of each room was amusing, many were empty, some with doors while some just have bars and peeking inside may be a bit scary. At least she thought so. "Don't try to look in, it's a bit creepy....." She was bored and started to play with his hair, "Not enough rooms." She blinked as if he asked a stupid question. "So I had to pick one in basement....It isn't too bad with the flashlight or lanterns and I picked one near the stairs!" She stressed, seemed to suggest that she made a clever decision. "How long have you been a hunter? Where are you from? Have you done many missions?" When the girl asked a lot of questions, it meant story time.

Otto grimaced, taking her advice after seeing something fairly horrible; just as she had warned him not to look behind the bars. Oops. It was probably a good omen that Deus was running out of rooms. It meant maybe that survival was up, right? Even if his own friends weren't so lucky. He allowed Shu to play with his hair, since it seemed to keep her from whining. He was to busy carrying her and trying to find her room anyway. Plus, her room was likely right by the exit. He'd be fine. "If you sleepwalk, you should just lock your door before you go to bed. That way you can't accidentally leave your room at night." He actually wasn't sure if sleepwalking worked that way, but it was fair advice. Talking actually helped distract him from panicking. The darkness made him feel as if he'd suffocate. "I've been a hunter for about two and a half years, I think." Although he'd been away from home much longer than that. "I'm from Louisiana." He gave her a short look, realizing her English was a bit messy. It was possible she didn't know anything about the states. "It's uh.. a state from the southern part of the US." He corrected. "I've been on a lot of missions." he murmured some more, getting closer to the lower numbers in the basement. Just focus on the light, not the dark beyond it.
