Anella shifted positions where she stood on the doorstep, adjusting her outfit to make sure the trip over here hadn't left her with any bugs in her hair. The distance hadn't been far, and she hadn't wanted to deal with helmet hair so she'd come without it. Which meant she needed some quick hair maintenance. Quickly combing his fingers through, she double checked that she looked as fabulous as she felt and then knocked, loudly, on the door.

Today, they were going to cook. Or, at least try to; maybe today was the day something finally came out as perfect as she wanted it to be. And then she could run home about it and everything would be wonderful.

But, she was there for more than just food—and it had nothing to do with wanting to look at Nic's butt again. She wanted to see if what he said was true—if he meant it, about being done with the Negaverse. She wanted to see what he was like when there was no powered costume to hide behind. She wanted to see if he was as good as he said.

Nick didn’t really think he was going to have to teach Aventine to cook when she got here, no, he wanted to treat her to a great meal, and it was already cooking, and had been for quite some time. The apartment smelled wonderful too, the entire space taking on the smell of the lasagna that was bubbling away in the oven.

The blonde had his hair up in a pony tail, and went to the door, opening it and flashing a smile, only to blink in surprise a moment later. “Pound cake girl?” That face would stick out forever. The girl he had almost gone out with, the pretty one…what had her name been?

He thought for a moment, finally snapping his fingers. “Anella, right? It’s uh…” After a moment he sighed. “I guess…nevermind. I’m not the same guy I was…but…I’m Nick now. Nicholas…”

Damnit. He had to remember not to blurt out who he had been…what a stupid thing to do…he hoped at least, that this was Aventine…wait.

“Hold up.” His voice dropped to a whisper. “You’re Aventine? Seriously?”

Anella blinked at him, squinted her eyes, and seemed to be struggling to find whatever connection he was referring to. Pound cake girl. Pound cake girl?

…Mister Nice Hair?

"Nicolae," she said, realization suddenly hitting. "Nooooo," she said. "No, no, no—you don't look like, you know, him. No, you? You don't—Oh," she said, reaching a hand up to massage her temple. "Oh, this is not making sense. There's only one person who ever called me Pound Cake Girl, and sans having a nice face and nice hair, you…"

She paused and squinted again. "Well, I guess you kind of look like him. How did you—what, did you get plastic surgery or something? I don't think I ever would have recognized you. Wait, you were Mariposite! I never would have guessed! I was basically crushing on you!"

Nick gave a little laugh, shaking his head. “Well. Now that uh. All of that’s out of the way, come on in, Anella…” He held the door open for her and then blinked. “Wait. Crushing on me?” A grin spread across his face. “Well, I do hope that continues…I had hoped you and I would become something, to be honest…but then I found a nice girl. That ended though, so here I am. Alone and rather lonely.”

He wiggled his eyebrows and took in a great sniff, savoring the smell of the food he was cooking. “You’re going to love dinner tonight. I’ve been cooking for about four hours. I made the sauce from scratch. I hope you like lasagna.”

This had been most unexpected, and suddenly Nick felt kind of sick for the things he had done in the past, even though he couldn’t remember them. “I didn’t hurt you though, right? When I was Mariposite? I just groped you, or hit your boob or something…no lasting trauma? Because, seriously, I am so sorry…”

"No," Anella said, stepping in. "No lasting trauma or anything. I guess I was sore, but to be honest, I suppose you weren't ever even the worst of the Negaverse I ever encountered. I suppose you weren't so bad. So if it's keeping you up at night," she hesitated and then shrugged. "Don't worry about it. I thought about it, and I don't think I have anything against you. You seem nice enough. Cooking for me and all. Which, by the way, it does smell wonderful. And so, if you are as good as you say, you are going to have to tell me everything you did in the kitchen. And I will just tell you."

She paused to inhale slowly, savoring the aroma from the kitchen. "I love lasagna. So don't…beat yourself up for the things that happened in the past, I guess? Everyone…makes mistakes. Sometimes you can't control them. And I don't blame you. I mean, you're trying to get your life back together, right? You got out of that whole mess. I'm not going to be a b***h and hold it over your head. Well," she grinned. "Unless it gets me more free food. But, in all seriousness…"

She shrugged. "You're Order now, right? And that makes us a team. So, if you really need to hear it? I forgive you."

Nick closed the door behind her and nodded. “Thank you, thank you. I am pretty darn nice, if I do say so myself.” He was such a goof sometimes, though…when she got that look on her face from the smell of his food, he grinned. “Anella, just wait until you taste it. It’s going to change your life, I promise you it will.” The male paused and shook his head. “I’ll make you food whenever you ask for it…you don’t need to hold any grudges to get it. I like cooking. It’s my passion.”

Just like passion was his passion. Though, he was about to say something silly and stupid when she told him that she forgave him and it was as if a large weight was lifted from his shoulders. A weight he hadn’t even realized was really there…but suddenly it was gone and…and he felt his eyes burning slightly. That was dumb. Was he going to start tearing up now? How unmanly.

Of course, the only thing to do in this situation was the thing he did. He reached out, taking Anella by the shoulders and planting a kiss smack dab on her lips.

Take that feelings. Take that.

To say that Anella had not been expecting the kiss would have been an understatement, and it wasn't even until a few seconds after his lips were on hers that she even processed what was going on. The smell of lasagna had been too intoxicating—and the kiss wasn't bad.

In fact, she might have enjoyed it had she not immediately started thinking about Juniper's lips, and then suddenly everything clicked into place and she let out a muttered yelp. "Nick," she chastized, drawing away. Her face was read and she couldn’t deny that it had been nice, but she had loyalties to consider. "I thought I told you I was seeing someone! —Your lips taste really sweet," she said after a second, smacking her own. "—Is that chapstick or were you tasting your own sauce? What is that?" she said, finding it much easier to fuss over the new flavor than to acknowledge that this very attractive male had decided to kiss her out of the blue. And he was offering free food whenever, so as soon as she got over that kiss, she was going to have to solidify these mooching plans and maybe try to pick up some lessons.

Plus, it helped distract her from the warmth flooding her face, and she hoped the quicker she talked, the less he'd be able to focus on the color of her face.

She had kissed back. She had totally kissed back, but then she had pulled away, and mentioned she was seeing someone, and Nick sighed heavily. “No, you didn’t mention you were seeing someone, if you had, I wouldn’t have done that, and…” He hesitated, making a face and wiggling his eyebrows at her. “If you want to figure out what makes my lips taste sweet, we could always kiss again.”

He was watching her face, and it seemed like she had at least liked it, so that was encouraging…though he didn’t want to make her mad at him…
But he had to admit. He might be falling for this girl. Lord knows he had a huge crush on her before…and now that it was someone he could still…really be himself around, it made her all the more attractive.

“I wouldn’t mind kissing you again, is what I’m trying to say. I wish I would have just kissed you when we first met. You’re a very attractive girl, and you have a great personality, Anella. Whoever you’re dating…he’s lucky to have you…”

Hastily, Aventine fanned herself and leaned back a little further. "Yes, she is very lucky to have me. And she's very wonderful herself, and if you'd kissed me like that before I met her, maybe I would admit that you are a very nice kisser and I might not mind that again. But, seeing as I am quite taken and not interested in damaging that relationship, let's put the rest of this conversation on the backburner so neither of us gets too flustered about anything. So, enough about me and my love life. You have teased me enough with your kisses and food. I want to see if you are as good as you say."

And if he was? If his cooking really was?

…That was not going to help this ********, those were conflicting emotions. Especially when Juniper was just about the sweetest thing she could imagine.

Feelings were so unfair.

Nick blinked. Oh. She was. Oh. Interesting. He gave a little smile. “Yes yes. We’ll pretend none of this ever happened than, shall we? How about you come with me now to the kitchen, and I can win over your taste buds at the very least.”

So maybe this girl would be a little harder to win over than he initially thought…but…but that wasn’t an issue at all. He could do it, he knew that much was true.

It would just take time…and time was on his side now. He grinned and grabbed Anella’s hand, pulling her into the kitchen. First she would fall in love with his food, and then she would totally fall in love with him. Simple.
