Xander was getting better at the whole making friends thing. School done and career well underway he felt he had far more time to attempt being social. He was still awkward and kind of oblivious, but he was trying and that was more than he was doing before.
Currently he was headed into one of the movie theaters in downtown DC to meet a new friend and attempt to hang out. It was a laughable thought, really his sister hadn't believed him at all when he said he was going to the movies with a friend. Now he just had to decided what he actually wanted to see, as he didn't often go to the movies, after all he had a theater in his basement.
Heading inside he looked around wondering just where Donovan was.

Xander was not exactly someone Donovan usually considered within his friend circle. In his opinion the man was entirely too put together to put up with him. He had degrees from college for Christ's sake! All Donovan had was a job that barely tolerated him and a good eye for wildlife photos. If one of those things should vanish he's be screwed. Well, sort of screwed. His savings account was rather large due to the simple fact that he had few bills and manged to couch surf or live on the company dime for most of his adult life. He spotted Xander ahead and jogged up giving a grin. "Spider Man, eh? Now I can feel like a proper lad." He'd collected the comic books when he was younger. "Are you ready to go in? I got my ticket online."
Kao
Xander hadn't bought his ticket, so he shook his head, but he certainly wasn't going to wait in like. He went over to one of the little electronic kios and quickly bought his ticket. Left to decide on a movie, it'd probably take him forever, so it was good Donovan had that all taken care of.
"I'm sure you can tell, that I don't go out very often," he said supplying mentally 'more like ever.' "Got my ticket now though, so lets head in. Sometimes the previews are more interesting than the movies."
"Though I still find it weird why they keep finding the need to redo these movies over and over. It seems redundant, even if they change some things" he said walking with Donovan, while trying to remind himself to have fun. He hoped this hanging out thing wasn't a totally failed experience.

"Well, I'm surprised you wanted to hang out with me." Flynn thought he was hilarious but knew some people tended to be annoyed by his inability to take anything seriously. He tried to, often, but failed most of the time to even begin. He was determined to be on his best behavior now. "I know what you mean. They redo them and never follow the storylines of the comics. It's a little disappointing to a fan." But usually never disappointing enough to make him stop going. Flynn bought snacks, ever a dude's dude, and offered to share with Xander with date vibes that he had to laugh at himself for. He wasn't used to outings with fellow males that did not include drinking, some form of female entertainment, or food. A combination of all three was definitely a good night. "Still, it kills some time and we can be entertained, right? No harm in that." Though if he'd had to pay ten bucks for his ticket he never would have come. "I'm usually a middle man myself. Where do you like to sit?"
Kao
"Why wouldn't I? Honestly it's me who should be surprised you wanted to come," he said with a little laugh. He knew wasn't exact the funnest person to be around, although he did seem to attract women like bees to honey, still he didn't get it though.
Xander felt a little less like this was bad idea when Donovan agreed about the constant reproduction of the movies. He himself hadn't read comic books as a child, but he had read a lot and he'd seen some book turned movies and he wasn't always impressed.
Donovan's offer to share his snacks was politely declined, "I'm sure like always their will be to much food at home, no need to ruin my appetite," he said perfectly serious even thought the statement could probably taken as a joke.
Xander nodded, "no harm in that at all. Seriously with my job, I need to learn to, what was it the nurses say. Um, chill, thats it, chill." He was looking around when the question of where he like to sit was posed, "wherever to be honest, doesn't really matter to me, so pick a seat and I will follow."

Donovan shrugged. Everyone had their social ineptitudes, he supposed. He chose somewhere in the middle of the middle in the theater, an aisle in front of their seats with railings and a place for wheelchair seating in front of them. He promptly spread out his snacks and kicked his feet up on the bars, boots propped up with his seat tilted back as far as it would go. He was certainly not self conscious of what people thought of him. He could be comfortable and at home just about anywhere, truth be told.
"Chill is as chill does, Xander."
He chuckled and tried to offer something to his companion once more before the lights dimmed. Flynn wasn't exactly a cinema snob, he'd watch just about anything, but he wasn't exactly a fan of everything he watched. He'd go into movies knowing he wasn't doing much more than killing time and sometimes that was ok with him. He was determined, however, to be a good boy. When bored he tended to pick apart the films in a humorous manner, much to his fellow movie goers ire.

Xander followed Donovan to the seat he had chosen and had to admit, that he never sat in this spot before. He wasn't about to complain because he truly didn't care, it was just new and a little strange. He looked to the other as he got comfortable and spoke about chilling. This however served to make Xander give Donovan an incredulous look. He didn't think he was capably of his level of chilling. Feet belonged on the ground unless you were sleeping or swimming, still he did finally take some of the proffered snack as the previews started, although he definitely would not be take more than his polite palm full. It was a start.
Xander leaned forward a bit while watching the previews, mentally making a list of dvd's he would be buying in the future to add to the collection. Some of the movies looked like they were going to be very nice. He definitely like the trailer with the woman how began to access the full potential of her brain. It was completely absurd the things she could be but it was a very interesting concept which he thought he would enjoy.
"That's one I will definitely be buying for my theater at home. May even come back to the theater to see it," he said to Donovan quietly just before the movie appeared to be starting.

"Hot chick with super powers? What's not to like?" Donovan chuckled in return making the same mental note to come back and see it. He wholeheartedly approved of powerful women and knew all about a secret life and powers now. Donovan was only partly a chauvinist when the woman in question was not really tangible. And even then it was no more so than any other male on the planet though any degree at all would have gotten him smacked by Pappy if he was alive to hear it. No matter what Donovan did his grandfather always seemed to linger on with him, a huge part of his life even after his death.
He'd only really watched the previews with a passive eye. Too many times the movie studios gave too much away and basically told the story in the short minute and a half trailer. What was the point of seeing it then when you already saw the climax and the ending? In his mind they went teaser, teaser, explosion, explosion, kiss, title. He had to bite his tongue to stop from making that observation aloud to possibly annoy his companion before the movie even began.
As the opening credits began he tried to suspend his comic snobbery to enjoy the movie for what it was and not what he'd do if he were the one making the film. He was a lowly nature photographer and not a director. Please let this be halfway decent he prayed, hoping to eliminate at least some of the temptation to snark his way through what he was pretty sure was going to be a redundant train wreck. As it happened, it wasn't very much better than he'd expected. During one of the first few serious scenes he couldn't help but mutter under his breath.
"And now Peter Parker is going to whine about how he has to choose like he's done every step of the way because no girl wants a super hero in the bedroom. Why do these guys never use this to their advantage?"

Xander just sort of shook his head. They obviously wanted to see the movie for completely different reasons, not that that was a bad thing, because it wasn't but he like the concept and hadn't actually paid much attention to the woman. As the movie started he settled in what quietly before he eyes went particularly wide and and he looked to Donovan his lips purse together trying to keep from laughing. Even despite the movies volume, sitting beside Donovan meant Xander had heard his comment.
Xander couldn't help but to think that it was a pretty good description of Peter's moping, even if he wouldn't have phrased it as such. However, he was worried about how he was going to survive the movie if Donovan was going to be making such comments. "Seriously I would hope as a super hero, one would have more important things to worry about ... like not dying," he commented with a raised eyebrow in a whisper before turning back to the movie, choosing not to comment on the use of being a super hero as an advantage. He for one never thought it could be use for such an advantage and certainly wouldn't try even if he thought it would work

"You're thinking too small, Xander my friend. A thankful damself in distress is a wonderful thing." All of the movies said so and now he knew for sure with his own super powers. He'd only rescued one damself so far but with more to come, he hoped, not that he'd be so callous as to expect much of anything in return, he wasn't a monster, but was a kiss too much to ask sometimes? If it was comic books had lied to him his entire life and that thought was just too depressing to believe.
Spidey saved some woman and under the soundtrack Flynn provided his own commentary. "Oh, gee Spiderman, I'm so grateful! I would never have gotten out of the way in time. However can I repay you?" He made his voice a little high pitched for her and then lower for Peter. "It's nothing, ma'am. Think nothing of it. It's nothing any normal mutant wouldn't have done. Well, no, in fact that's not a banana. I'm just happy to see you."
Ok, so he probably had a much dirtier mind than his friend but it was nothing worse than what he usually heard on mystery science theater 3000. Or his usual bar room haunts for that matter.

Xander frowned at Donovan, but chose not to comment. He didn't expect anything from anyone he recued, although he had rescued a damsel and it has resulted in a stronger bond of friendship between him and her, but they had been friends before that. Somehow though Xander wasn't to sure that is what Donovan meant. He continued to watch the movie enjoying it for the most part.
Another absolutely incredulous look was given to Donovan at the next piece of commentary, followed by Xander looking around to see if anyone else heard. He saw some girls behind him giggling, one even winked, to which he poke Donovan. "If you're going to do that can you at least keep it a little less vulgar. I'm surprised that they," she said motioning to the girls, "find that funny at all."
Xander didn't really find it all that funny anymore, for he was definitely a grade A prude, but he wouldn't mind as long as their wasn't such inappropriateness.

It wasn't that Donovan, as Vesuvius, expected anything from anyone but if they were in the mood to be grateful he wasn't exactly going to tell them no, either. The sad fact of the matter was, though, that in this gig that had never once come up. This was a fact he viewed with no small amount of regret. As Xander spoke he was sufficiently chastized, however, and frowned. He fell into silence despite the perfectly obvious open reception of the girls behind them that he thought he and his companion should take advantage of. Humor won them over every time. Still, he didn't want to outright offend Xander and tried very hard to be quiet. "They were flirting with you, you realize. You could have at least asked them to join us."
Kao
Xander appreciated that Donovan quieted though it wasn't for long and his next words had his peering back at the girl again, who smiled and started whispering to each other. He frowned not thinking that giggle at guy in a movie theater was flirting, clearly he needed lessons. "You really think that's flirting," he asked looking puzzled, "I'm pretty bad at that sort of thing."
He sat back in his chair looking at the screen. He didn't think he should invite the girls to sit with them because that would lead to him probably feeling very uncomfortable and socially inadequate, but he also didn't want to upset them. He got enough of women going from happy smiley to irritated and eye rolling at work on a daily basis. One would think he would get it by now right. Ultimately he didn't have it in him, so instead he looked to Donovan, "yeah I don't think they really want to move, it will likely cause a distraction. Seems impolite."

"You need to work on how to seize the moment, my friend." Donovan watched Xander as he tried to talk himself out of admitting that those girls, in fact, were flirting with him. Just how repressed was this guy, anyway? A few d**k jokes seemed to bother him, he had no idea how to read the signs of the opposite sex. "Are you gay?" he asked, thinking that might be a likely explanation for one of the abnormalities. Maybe he was just in the closet...Flynn sort of lived for the distractions of life so he was not at all concerned with causing one. He turned around and smiled dashingly at the girls behind them. "Excuse me, ladies. My companion and I couldn't help but notice that two such lovely creatures as yourselves are sitting alone. We both think that is an absolute tragedy and invite you to sit with us to help right this egregious wrong."
Kao
Xander knew that Donovan was probably right, but his focus was just elsewhere. He could be a very driven person, but his drive pretty much revolved around school and getting his degree and becoming a doctor. He did those thing, but pretty singularly. Now his focus was on his career and his knight life, so while the latter was really helping him socially, it didn't lend to his civilian life most of the time. Donovan's question had Xander looking at him like he was crazy, of course there was nothing wrong with being gay, its just that Xander wasn't. He was pretty sure he had never looked at another guy in that way.
Donovan received a curt, "no," which Xander hoped was a clear warning never to ask that question again. Then the situation got worse as Donovan invited the girls to sit with them and they excepted. Now of course Xander wanted to yell at Donovan, but he didn't, instead opting for a furious whisper. "Why did you do that," he said while girl went about relocating themselves. He groaned sitting back in his chair just as one of the girl sat on one side of him and the other sat beside Donovan.

Flynn thought that there was absolutely nothing wrong with gay men. He certainly didn't judge even if he didn't happen to share those leanings. He could certainly admit certain men were attractive, had a pleasing aesthetic. He just wasn't attracted to it sexually. He no he got in return showed that Xander was A. not gay and B. probably pretty upset with him. He desperately meant well, trying to broaden the other man's horizons. The girls had accepted, hadn't they? What was the harm in that? "Because you wouldn't," he answered honestly to the sharp question. "If you never put forth any risk at all you will never reap any rewards." Which was something his Pappy taught him, too. He grinned as the ladies joined them, passing his snacks around.
Kao
Xander sighed and expected the situation. Donovan was right on both count, but that didn't really make Xander feel any better. Either way the current going on was making him miss the movie, so he definitely wasn't going to argue with him. The girls introduced themselves as Emily and Anna and seemed to be enjoying themselves, so Xander relaxed only a little, giving his name settling into his chair. He sat back watching the movie not saying anything even though the girl Emily was sort of watching him more than the movie.
Both girls seemed to want more commentary, with little do this scene, do this scene comments, to which Xander soon felt he might be mortified, but he hoped any comments would be more funny and less vile like the first one. He looked to Donovan because he certainly wasn't going to be doing it. They we're getting enough annoyed looks as it was, even if they weren't overly loud.

Donovan really didn't want to get himself into any more trouble. He figured out that his comments were what the girls were interested in but that was absolutely not what Xander seemed to want. He sighed and tried to figure out how best to remedy the situation. He did not like missing any opportunity to impress pretty girls. He made a few comments parodying the movie but were less vulgar and probably were not as funny. He made fun of the film making, the absurdity of Peter Parker's orgin as Spiderman and of the overly dramatic way one of the actresses was playing her role. He was certainly trying to please both parties, oblivious to anyone beyond.
Kao
Xander had to say that he appreciated the Donovan keeping the comments less vulgar and to show his appreciation he tried his best to relax and enjoy the company of the two ladies sitting with them. Making a comment here and there and even laughing at some of the comments Donovan made, not all of which he found funny, but some he certainly did. As the credits rolled he stretched and looked at the dou, now turned group. "That wasn't completely terrible," he said though whether he was talking about the movie or the situation probably wasn't very clear.
He stood getting ready to leave only to find the girl's seeming having a conversation over Donovan before they looked up at the pair of them and issuing a lunch invite with much sly grins, than made Xander want to bail. "Well ... um," he started about to spew an excuse before looking to Donovan and kind of just saying nothing.

"Of course we'd love lunch, ladies." Donovan wasn't about to turn down lunch with two very pretty ladies on an idle afternoon. Sure he was speaking for Xander but it was still in his best interest. The movie hadn't been terrible and everyone seemed to have been amused by it all. At the very least he hadn't been chastised again during the film so that was something. He drew Xander aside as they walked out, keeping pace with the man as they walked. "It's only lunch." He promised. "Relax, would I lead you astray?"
