Asleep under a tree at the edge of the field the little pronghorn looked like it may have been a foal left to hide while it's mother foraged for food. If it hadn't been raining most who noticed it would not even give it a second glance. As it was though, the creature was soaking wet and shivering.

Sunsinger was walking towards the trees, hoping to get out of the rain. She wasn't at ALL thrilled about this weather, having hoped to miss the rain by coming in spring. Instead, it seemed to be as rainy as home, since she'd arrived! She was about to snort in irritated disgust, when she saw a shivering shape under the tree ahead. She stared at it, surprised. Who but she would be so silly as to be out in this weather? Her eyes narrowed a little, though, when she realized how small the shape was, and how it shivered. She frowned mightily, as she came to the conclusion that there was a foal there!
... Who would leave a foal out in these conditions? She was shocked and picked up her pace, trotting straight for the poor little one. "Oh! Oh are you all right there?" She called ahead of her, to avoid startling the child. She didn't want to make it worse for the poor little foal!

The little creature raised it's head at the sound of Sun's voice. It had been expecting something, but that something wasn't her. Two bright eyes shone against the black of it's body, then, right when she got up close, a fifth opened on its' forehead followed by four more on it's front.
The little creature didn't move or speak. All it did was to sit there, staring at the strange mare in silence.
Enoch had been hunting in the forest. Sometimes he would bring back live prey for his little shadow to play with, but today he'd simply been too hungry to bother. These hunts were the only occasions where the tiny pronghorn was separate from his partner for long. It was just too difficult for Enoch to keep steady with the little shadow on his back.
This was the right spot, Enoch could smell his friend even from here. So why was there a white female there? If she looked up, she would see more red eyes staring out through the darkness.

She froze, startled. "Oh you... I'm sorry, I thought you were a foa..." She halted as the many eyes opened. Her own eyes went very wide, and she just went silent for a long moment, unsure what to say, or even do. Finally, after a moment, she takes a deep breath, and tries again. "I am sorry, I didn't mean to disturb you. I did not realize you were not a foal. You are, and I hope not to offend you, of or about the same size as one... So I thought you were some one's child, left alone in this nasty weather. As you are an adult, and can make your own choices, I would hate to intrude, if I am unwanted."
She glanced up, and froze completely. How many red eyes WHERE there? Why were there so many? 9 on the deer... more in the woods, she couldn't REALLY tell how many... What was going on here? "Ah... I..."

The tiny pronghorn jumped too it's feet then leaped into the woods in an attempt to hide behind Enoch.
Enoch payed no mind to the little shadow. It would find a way to get on his back, or stick to his heels. It always did one or the other. He kept going, stepping over the bracken at the edge of the forest and out into the lighter field.
He hadn't cleaned himself yet. When he couldn't bring back a live kill the little shadow sometimes would choose to lap at the stains on his fur instead. As Enoch left the shelter of the trees the rain began hitting him, diluting the blood and dripping from his fur like little rubies. He said nothing, expecting the mare to come forward with an explanation without him having to prompt her. As concerned as he was over the little shadow, he'd entirely forgotten to take his appearance into consideration.

She couldn't move as the stallion came into sight. She didn't know what she was facing, or who he was. All she knew for sure was that he dripping blood and had a lot of eyes. Finally, trembling all over, she whispered "I... I'm sorry to disturb you, sir, I didn't mean to bother anyone. I didn't realize he wasn't alone. I'm not trying to do anything, other then travel..."
She paused, then found herself wondering, given his appearance and the blood, if he was maybe some sort of territorial hunter. "I... I am just passing through! I'm not going to do anything to harm your territory. It's too wet to fly, you see..."

The shadow peaked out from behind Enoch's legs, curious. Depending what sort of mood Enoch was in, this could be interesting.
Enoch slowly twisted his head to one side, looking her over. She was pretty enough. Shiny. Maybe a bit too colourful and bright for his tastes. Still, he had seen birds fly in the rain before, and ducks flew after diving under water. Why couldn't she fly?
"Little birds fly through the rain. Why not you?"

She blinked at his words, looking at the pair of them. She really had no idea what to do, or what was going to happen. The mare stood, silently, for a moment as she figured out how to formulate her words. Finally, she said "Little birds have not the weight that I carry... And water weighs me down more. It is just more risky to fly in the rain.... And if it were to begin to thunder, I could be struck. I do not like being ground bound, but... Well I don't want to be injured." She was working hard to keep calm, her stomach in a knot with fear.

The little creature seemed to grow a bit braver and came forward to lap at the dripping blood on one of Enoch's forelegs. This was no good, if his partner stood in the rain too long he would be washed clean before the shadow could take any for it's self.
Still Enoch seemed to pay it no mind. He tilted his head at the female though, looking over her wings as though they would do something neat if he just kept staring.
"If you fare so poorly in the rain, why do you not seek shelter?"

"Wha... That's what I was doing, but then I saw your..." She paused, seeing the pronghorn licking the blood, and her eyes widened. "Your um... companion, alone and shivering. He's about the size of a foal, and I... well I thought it was a lost or abandoned child, and wanted to help." She nodded slowly, and inched both sideways and forwards, so that she was at least under the branches of one of the trees at the edge of the woods. "I'd hoped to find a large tree, one I could shelter under, you see..." She had to control the urge to laugh a little hysterically at that... After all, he surely saw far more then she did!

The eyes on Enoch's legs flicked up to watch his companion lapping the blood off his coat.
"I have a small shadow," he said simply. "I left him here so I could hunt. He hides well." He twisted his head again, his eyes flicking back to focus on her. Then he bowed, allowing the little pronghorn to jump on his back. "I know these woods, come with me."

"A... small shadow. So I see." She stared at the pronghorn a little more, then nodded slowly. "Thank you. I would appreciate that." Or she hoped... She wasn't stupid, these odd beings could be leading her into a trap, but... She didn't, at this moment, get that sort of feeling. Perhaps she would be safe. "It would be nice to get away from the wet." She moved closer to him, ignoring what was left of the blood for the moment.

The tiny black pronghorn curled up on Enoch's back, watching the new comer even as Enoch focused on finding the path through the thick woods. shut his excess eyes as he walked, only flicking them open here or there to inspect things from other angles as he passed, or to glance around without turning his head. He never directed his gaze back at the mare, the little shadow would alert him if she was untrustworthy.
They walked for some time in silence, before finally coming across a path. Here, Enoch turned to follow it uphill. It was only once they'd both stepped onto the path that Enoch spoke again.
"I am not leading you to a tree."

Sunsinger blinked quietly, then tilted her head. "Oh? And... if I may, where are you leading me?" Part of her quailed deep inside, but he hadn't attacked her, so she was hoping, very much, that he was just leading her to a safe location.
If not, she'd have to hope she could get to a clearing and into the air. Rain or not, he had no wings, so she'd be safer up there and could fly to a safer location. At least as long as no lightening was involved. And hills often had clearings on them, spots trees couldn't cling to, so she kept an eye out for a safe spot, just in case.
