"Shut it."
He was in a small dingy unused classroom at the end of a long corridor in the main building, sitting on what would have be the lecturer's table. Remnants of his lunch was next to him: a couple slices of bread and a water bottle. He had left the door to the room slightly ajar in order to air it out. Dust drifted through the air.
He chewed on a piece of bread as he stared at the chalkboard. The bread was dry and tasteless, but he hadn't wanted to stay in the cafeteria. It had been mostly empty. No point in sitting by himself just to eat. Sure, there had been a few people sitting here and there, but Ughhhhhhhhhh. He wasn't the type to make conversation just like that, but he would have to do it eventually.
"Shut it."
Cress frowned at the chalkboard and ate some more bread.Chalkboard Hunter--'save the world', inhabit Island Island-- in Bermuda Triangle (?), headquarters, 'exists between worlds'==>how??? possible to connect to different 'world'??, weird stuffHalloween--'darkness,' 'evil,' enemy Weapon-- sentient, creatures from Halloween Runes--appears on weapons, binds Golems--here, name for robot? ===>how advanced, A.I. = self-aware? Fear--current research where, tangible or no? Missions <== where, what WHERE THE HELL IS THE LIBRARY??? is there one? Fine, maybe he didn't know much. Alright, alright, he knew practically nothing. He grappled with this thought for a bit. He hated not knowing anything. And now here he was, a so-called Hunter on the Hunter Island filled with goddamn Hunters who Hunted and other stupid cr*p and missions and there was no f***ing internet access for him to just Wiki the sh*t. Yes, he was suffering from minor Internet withdrawals. And now he had to find out stuff the ordinary way, at a f***ing snail's pace.
"Anything to add, Meer?"
hear your thoughts.>
"I know. This just lets me think clearer."
"Shut it."
He ate some more bread and frowned at the chalkboard.

Maybe you wouldn't feel so hot if you didn't wear so many clothes.
Harlow gritted her teeth at her weapon's voice chimed in head. She had a point, honestly, Harlow still wore many of her clothes that she wore when she lived in her Alaskan fishing town. The difference between there and the island was pretty big, but she just felt the most comfortable in her other clothes. The heat was something that she could deal with most of the time, but today was just rough. All of the adjusting that she had done seemed to go backwards. She woke up late this morning and had to skip breakfast, the food just tasted extra horrible, Neci was relentless with giving Harlow a hard time, the heat and she was just generally feeling horrible.
She grumbled a little to herself as she made her way down the hall. She wanted to get just eat her lunch in quiet, not only that but also make sure that she wasn't going to be late for her next class. She balanced a muffin and a water bottle in her hand as she reached her destination.
She awkwardly pushed her way in her other hand busy with cradling books. She held the bottle in one hand and the wrapper of the muffin between her teeth. She was so preoccupied with the door that once she pushed it back to being kind of opened, she turned an noticed another person in the room. She stumbled a little, dropping the muffin between her arms and then looking down and then back up to guy. "Oh, uh." She struggled for the words that she wanted to use.
Today was just getting more and more awkward for her.
No, you're just awkward.
She grimace was probably apparent on her face, before she remembered that she was some one else in the room. "I'm so sorry." She apologized, "I'm sorry if I'm interrupting, would you mind?" She asked curiously as she motioned toward the desk with her head, she was hoping the guy would be okay with some company. She really just wanted to stay where she knew she wasn't going to be late.

Cress was still frowning at the board, trying to figure out what else he could write on it when he heard the something behind him. He turned around. Was there actually going to be a class coming in here? But no, it was a girl. She was dressed oddly warmly for the weather on the Island but he supposed that some people might just have better tolerances for heat and humidity. In her arms was were some books, but she seemed to be looking in for a place to stay and eat rather than actually attend a class here. He followed her gaze briefly and stared the muffin and then back up at her. Well then.
I know.
No sh*t I'm not talking out loud now. I would look f***ing crazy.
An inner grin that did not belong to him.
Nothing. How can I possibly do anything in such a short-
How does that have anything to do with-
He rolled his eyes. No.
He blinked. CR*P.
Cress cleared his throat and walked over and knelt down to pick up the dropped muffin. Screw you Meer, screw you. She just laughed. He handed the muffin back to the girl. "Yeah, it's fine." He moved his bread and water bottle over to make space and sat back down again. "Name's Cress." He paused. This was feeling more and more awkward by the second. What the hell was he supposed to say now? Errr...small talk? What. He hated moments like this, those indeterminate spaces of time between seeing someone and actually having meaningful not-completely-boring-waste-of-time useful bits of conversation. He frowned slightly. "I'm new. Life division."
He could hear Meera's slow sarcastic clapping.

Harlow smile as the guy handed her the muffin that she dropped. "Thank you." She answered simply, she wasn't sure if having company was something that she wanted right now. But she knew that it was looking like she was going to have to deal with it at the moment, she was hoping that it was just going to be a pleasant lunch. Maybe they wouldn't talk much, or maybe they would have a good conversation. As long as it was something good she was going to be happy.
She say down and started to get herself comfortable, reaching into her bag to pull out the books that was was planning on thumbing through a little before class, and then carefully opening the plastic around her muffin, leaving it open as if it was 'plate.' "Cress is an interesting name." She said simply in response to his name.
Man he's a cutie, I think you should make real good friends with him.
She could almost feel the wink that Neci was giving her, but she just rolled her eyes. Her weapon loved to tell her to touch everyone's butt and flirt with them too. Harlow just wasn't about that though, she was pretty reserved with the people that she met. Even if she thought some one was cute she wasn't the type to make moves on them. she looked up at him remembering that she should probably introduce herself as well. "Harlow Rowan." She said simply with a smile. She reached forward to break off a piece of her muffin, eating it before she spoke herself. "I'm new as well, Mist division." She offered him a small smile, attempting to be as friendly as she could through the awkwardness. She wasn't that great about meeting people.

"Last name." He corrected. "Full name is Dietrich Cress, but I have this older cousin who used to be obsessed with this mutant green bunny named 'Dietrich' as well. Apparently he's some online community's mascot who has a vendetta against the Easter bunny or something." He bit another chuck out of his bread and chewed on it thoughtfully. Some of the things that came out of the creative community were just weird. "Well, anyways, she used to drag me on these bizarre expeditions to reclaim all holidays in the name of said evil green bunny and shove cupcakes down my throat. By the time I was seven, I fled from her on sight." He grimaced a bit remembering. "Of course by that time, my parents were pretty resolute on not letting me change my name. So now, it's just Cress."
He could hear her laughing inside his head.
Shut it, Gigglesnort. And my mother wasn't aware at the time that my name was the same as some dumb bunny's. More laughter. Stfu.
Cress ate some more of his bread. He didn't usually share so much about himself the first time meeting someone, but something with the timing and setting made him just more talkative than usual. All in the f***ing name of making new friends, ain't it? She better not start calling me 'Dietrich.' "Harlow is a pretty interesting name as well." He got drank some water out of his water bottle. "Used to the stuff around here yet?" He glanced at the books that she had just pulled out of her bag. Books! "May I...?" He gestured towards the books.

Harlow quietly picked at her muffin as she listen to Cress's explanation about his name. Dietrich was an even more interesting name, but before she pointed out to him she wasn't going to interrupt him. But as she listened to him she decided that it sounded like he really didn't want to, he didn't sound like that much of a fan of it honestly. She opened her water and drank it while arching her brow at him. "I can see why you want to be called Cress." she wasn't that sure of what else to say honestly but that was going to be about all that she said.
"I've been told that before." She laughed as he said that her name interesting as well. She sighed about his question though. "Well I'm adjusting as much as I possibly can, it's kind of frustrating though. I think I'm adjusting the best that I can though. You?" She questioned back to him. She leaned back in her chair and was a little confused about what he was asking about, "Oh! Yeah go for it." She said simply before sliding her book toward Cress.

"Getting used to it slowly." Cress answered simply. Life on the Island, for the lack of a better word, different. After all, the only people who lived here were the Hunters, and being a Hunter meant training, missions, save the world from Halloween, etc, etc. The idea still had some getting used to. He also had to get used to living in a hellhole with cr*ppy pay. He would have made more money working in an ice cream parlor. Granted, the use of the facilities, living space, and food were free, but it was still a pretty sh*tty, especially for life endangerment. Well, he supposed, that was just part of the cost of helping save the world--having to do practically free labor.
He nodded his thanks and took the book, leaving Harlow to eat her lunch in peace if she wished. The book was entitled "Golems and YOU" and had a nifty picture of one on the front. Flipping it open, he started making corrections to his chalkboard. He erased his previous notes on golems and wrote "Very basic A.I., do not seem to be self-aware." He frowned and added, "powered by FEAR --->from where?--->different levels of 'purity' of fear possible?" He raised an eyebrow at the description of the D-type golem. What did it mean that they looked exactly like the user? What 'soul'? He wrote "fear connected to 'soul'? or mutually exclusive." He paused and stared at the word "soul," frowning. It didn't seem right, but he couldn't think up a better term for it at the moment and it was the one that the book used.

'Getting used to it slowly'. I think that was the best way to describe how she felt, probably most hunters felt honestly. There wasn't really anything that she left behind, but now that she was here she felt like there was so much that was left behind. These feelings went back and forth all of the time, some moments she felt great about everything going on and then she hated it and just really wanted to go back to where she once lived.
She pushed her self into the back of her chair and lifted her legs and placed them on the chair on the other side of the table. She stared up at him, watching him scribble on the board, she pulled off a chunk of muffin and shoved it her mouth and swallowed it before speaking. "What are you doing?" She asked curiously. He took her entertainment for now, she wanted to at least find out what he was doing if he was going to use her book. She shifted in her feet and leaned her elbows on the table, resting her head on one of her hands.

”Trying to determine the parameters of the universe in relation to hunters, the supernatural, etc. and update my belief system accordingly.” Cress continued to flip through the book and add annotations here and there on the board. He crossed out ‘soul’ and wrote ‘thing’ instead. Then he dusted the chalk off his hands and sat back down to finish eating his lunch. He stared at the chalkboard thoughtfully as he chewed. After swallowing the next bite, he continued, ”One day we are just going on with our normal lives and dealing with our own cr*p and then baam, world turns upside down, stuff of fairy tales come true, we end up here.” He took a swig from his water bottle and grinned. ”It’s fine and all that; this place is interesting. But-“ He leaned his back against the teacher’s podium and turned to face Harlow. "I don’t know sh*t. For all I know, we could all be part of an affective death spiral. On the wrong side of this entire matter."
He bit another chuck of bread and swallowed. ”Thoughts?”

As he started to talk she leaned forward and crossed her arms on the table and leaned forward. What he was saying was really interesting and true. She honestly hadn't thought about it that much. She honestly hadn't thought about it much lately. She hadn't thought about it because she had nothing left keeping her where she came from, she only had her father left and he was dead. When she found out about the Deus she didn't think anything else but why not. It honestly sounded like a pretty good deal.
She sighed a little when he looked at her and she sat back in the chair, she raised her legs and rested them on the table. She crossed her arms in front of her and her brow furrowed and unfurrowed before talking. "Well you're right." She started simply looking down for a moment where Neci was on her keychain before back to Cress. "I haven't really thought about it that much but the main thing that I can say honestly is, we're here. I don't think there is any turning back that we can do right now. We're here and I guess we will just have to find out." She laughed as she made eye contact with him and smirked a little. "You look like you've been staying up at night thinking about this." She couldn't help but to tease, it was just how she liked to talk to people.

Cress made a face. "Force of habit." He really did tend to think an awful lot of about simple things, but in this case, it did involve being part of a mysterious organization and life endangerment, so he had thought about it more than usual. But face was, like Harlow said, he really could do nothing but wait around for the f***ing enlightenment cause he sure wasn't going to get any by continuously writing stuff on some chalkboard. Though writing on the chalkboard did shave off his restlessness a bit.
Shut it.
"F*** you."
He turned his attention back to Harlow. "Apologies, my weapon being a little sh*t. Anyways, done anything cool here yet?"

Harlow chuckled a little as she sat back in the chair getting a little more comfortable. She nibbled on her muffin as she watched what he was writing on the board. Whatever was going on in that mind of his was interesting that was for sure. But she was pretty startled once he cursed. She arched her brow, she wasn't sure if she should be offended or not honestly. Was he talking to her or what he just cursing.
She was about to open her mouth until he spoke. His weapon was being a jerk. She laughed again and smiled at him. "You know, honestly, mine is as well." She heard Neci grumble something to her but she choose to ignore it honestly. She wasn't in the mood to deal with it, her weapon drove her nuts from time to time. "I've met people... but that is about it honestly. So far it's been just kind of boring for me." She sighed pulling one of her feet up under her so that she was more comfortable.

He laughed. Pulling his necklace out from underneath his scarf, he held up the chain so that the katana and mace charm dangled. "Harlow, meet Meera. Once an ifrit, now a katana-mace-hybrid who won't shut up half the time. She-" He winced. She had stopped her singing and now was grumbling about something, no doubt how she was being under-appreciated or that he really should be lucky to have her, but he ignored it the best he could and went back to the conversation. "Still takes time to get used to. Another voice suddenly being inside my head and all."
"Have you tried going through any of the training courses yet?" He took another gulp of water before continuing. "I did a life division one with another mist hunter trainee, Noemi, maybe you know her, a few days back." He paused and frowned. "We played Jenga." He bit a chunk out of his bread and chewed thoughtfully. "The table was on a cement island in the middle of a tank of sharks." The sharks seemed to have been more for decor than anything else. "And there were red sniper lasers scanning the area." He bit another chunk of bread. "It was...errr, well, it wasn't boring at least." It had been semi-terrifying. "I'll be up for checking out a different training course with you sometime." He didn't want to do the life division training course again any time soon, but he was interested in at least peeking at what the other divisions' ones looked like. He did have a bad feeling about them since even the research-orientated no-let's-not-get-physical life division had ended up with such a dangerous, if not also dumb, course.

Harlow couldn't help but to laugh as the weapon introductions started to begin. Harlow leaned forward and started her own introduction. "Well Cress, this is Neci," she started grabbing the fluffy keychain on her side. "She is a harpoon, once a siren." As she said it she could hear the weapon scream. She cringed and then did a half hearted laugh. "Rusalka, but they're pretty much the same thing." She could hear the weapon continue the temper tantrum, she didn't really care right now.
She stretched herself out and listened to his training lesson, that sounded extremely interesting. Her training sessions had been pretty mundane, she was a little surprised but then again she wasn't that surprised. "No where near as interesting as that so far!" She laughed again and then nodded in agreement. "I think that sounds like a great idea. I think we can do one together being from different divisions and all." She wasn't completely sure about how all of that worked but then again she was new... She looked toward the clock and then back toward him. "Are you any closer to your answers?" she asked curiously.

Cress cracked a grin as he looked at the fluffy keychain. "Well, I didn't expect sirens, no, rusalkas to be so fluffy. Not particularly aqua-dynamic at the moment, is she?" Meera was muttering something about harpoons having very horrible taste in transforming and then there was really nothing they could exactly do to control what their unsummoned forms were and that if she had had her way, she would have been something completely awesome like the Crown Jewel except bigger and brighter, and all in all, more priceless. The trainee rolled his eyes and mentioned that he would definitely find a way to sever their soul-bond-mind-connection-what-ever-the-f***-it-was-thing if she were to transform into a gaudy jewel fit for two-year-olds to use as a chew toy.
He nodded. The other training courses could be pretty interesting. Cress glanced back at the board in response to Harlow's question. He sighed. "No. I suppose the only way I could get any closer is to sit on my a** and wait. There's not much to add without being more on the field.Yin-Bug Sorry for the late reply!!! @____@;;; Out of country right now, and don't have much internet access. orz;;;
