Does anyone else obsessively comb old episodes, hoping to pick up on foreshadowing or ~ hidden meaning ~? (Blame my grade ten / eleven English teacher. Now I can't turn it off.)

Different colours usually mean different things - blue / white for angels, red / black for demons. Early on, bright colours were often a sign of Something's Not Kosher, considering how the show used to feature a dark, washed out filter (which they seemed to have kicked around season seven. I miss the creepy atmosphere.)

One thing I noticed specifically is that yellow tends to also pop up when Things Aren't Quite Right - Sam in particular has a couple yellow shirts that first caught my eye. ("What is and What Should Never Be", "Changing Channels" / most funny spell eps. There is a lot of yellow on both boys in "It's a Terrible Life".)

I wrote a whole meta (more of a list since I'm too lazy and scatterbrained to actually write / post meta) on it and I like to use it as a conversation starter because I think it's an interesting topic. Do you guys notice meanings attached to any other colours?

Oh my gosh.

I cannot WAIT to read your meta--I LOVE color theory within tv shows and this looks amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this!!!

It seems like it's perfectly possible. I will have to keep an eye out on Season 10 episodes to see if there will be any more possible occurrences in
relation to your theory.

Definitely an interesting read, and if you happen to update more let me know! I'd like to see what else you might find. 3nodding

UPDATES! (Thanks for reminding me of this post, guys. <333)

In the last few episodes, red has been more predominant (representing STAWP / Dean's demonic side) than yellow but that El Sol sign (and another one, not sure if it was the Kingdom sign from Holy Terror) popped up again in Reichenbach. Dean's mostly been wearing his red shirt - until "Paper Moon", after he was "healed" (quotation marks because I don't quite buy that he's 100% back). Previously in season nine he'd been wearing a lot of tan, which despite my "no beige" rule I think will count as representing his humanity slipping after he got the Mark. Sam hasn't been seen in anything yellowy / beige, mostly blue and green.

I need to look at the demons and, more importantly, the angels closer. I think for the most part, they're all wearing mostly black and white suits. Crowley continues to wear black on black, no Red Tie Take Warning even when he was manipulating / using Dean and later when Dean was using him back. Nothing about these characters particularly stuck out for me besides Hannah wearing jeans, representing her becoming more accustomed to humans. (Daniel and Adina were more casual as well.)
