Orpheus Solon

Yaholo wasn't quite sure how much more walking he would be able to do today, even if he had only be moving about four hours so far. His body was weaker than he had originally thought it had been when he left the cave, proving that the journey home would be just as difficult on him physically as it would be emotionally. He grit his teeth as he went along, Yanenowi doing her usual wiggle-walk beside him, his eyes studying the sky. He had about three hours of daylight left... He would need to think about making camp soon.

"Well, girl, just a little further and we can stop." He said, though his legs told him otherwise. An hour at most before he'd collapse, he estimated, a sigh escaping his lips. Part of him wished that he hadn't been so reckless, but at the same time, he knew that he wouldn't have had the time to think things through anyway. This impulsiveness was a part of who he was and it was never going to change. He had to live with his mistakes and his choices, no matter if he wanted to or not.

"Gwaaaaa!"

"What is it, Yane?" He asked, turning his attention to where Yanenowi had leaped towards. He squinted his eyes and smiled... A camp. Maybe they would let him rest with them until the morning.

"Hello?" He called as he neared the camp. "I've run out of supplies and I need a place for the night... Do you mind if I settle close by?"

Rilind was feeling so exhausted today... and it was really grating on him. He had done very little, he'd gotten up from the tent that he'd been staying in, walked to a stream to get a drink and rinse off, then came back. That was it and yet it had taken everything out of him. He was back in the tent, once more laying down, grumbling to himself about how badly his body was failing him of late. It didn't help that the worst of his wounds, the one that was caused by the bug man pinning him to a tree with a sword, was so stiff as well. He knew that things were getting better, he wasn't dead after all, but it was a slow going recovery, so much so that it was weighing on him. From what he'd gathered in the time he was unconscious there had been a war. How had he missed an entire war?!

Given that he found it hard to sit up he supposed that it made sense. Even now, as he heard a bit of commotion outside the tent, it took everything he had to roll onto his side so he could attempt to better hear what was going on. He could hear a voice calling out from a distance, one that spoke of having 'run out of supplies' and seemed to need a place to stay. He had to say he was surprised that the guy asked to settle 'close by' instead of asking to stay with them. Most people at the moment seemed to be heading away from the attacking army and as such were desperate to be with others. Whoever it was out there was a rather strange one he thought to himself, letting his eyes close as he listened in.

Outside the tent the leader of the small hunting party, a group that was a mix of Shifters and Leaf Tribe, rose to his feet and started forward, "Good afternoon, traveler. You're looking a bit worse for wear, aren't you? We only have so much at the moment, prey has been a bit scarce due to those monsters Oba brought with them, but we can share what we have with you for a night." They couldn't keep him in their group, they were already too many mouths to feed, but one night to allow the weary man to rest, that much he could allow.

"Come, take a load off, and sit with us. We would appreciate any news you might have heard during your travels?" They were doing their best to stay ahead of the invading army and as such felt as though they were missing out on a bit of what might be going on elsewhere. Best to ask one who might know.

Yaholo appeared shocked at how open the group had been to accepting him for the night, but eventually made his way towards the man who had addressed him. He sat down slowly, his face twisting as his back muscles twinged with pain, and tried his best to sit upright and alert. As pleasing as it was to have a space to stay in for the night, it was more than a little embarrassing for him to be seen in the state that he was. He hoped that they wouldn't think him odd for looking so young but being so weak.

"Thank you so much, it means a lot to me." He said, his voice and face exuding gratitude. "It's been quite a stretch since this morning, and I was afraid that I was going to collapse within the next hour. My home is back through the forests, in Andile, so, I've got quite a ways to go."

He paused at the question he was given and immediately averted his gaze to the ground. Oh, great, he hadn't been doing anything of use while he was out here, at least anything that would be beneficial to his fellow fighters. He bit his lower lip as he gathered the right words to reply, and faced the group again sheepishly.

"I... I haven't got anything useful for you, I apologize." He replied. "I've actually been out here in mourning... The love of my life died saving a young boy before the war started and I came home from the fight to the news..." He paused again, heaving a heavy sigh, before continuing. "... As you can see, it's... Really teared me to bits."

"In these times, when it seems like we might very well get overrun, we can't really abandon those who are our allies." The man said, giving the visitor a once over before he moved to sit down, glancing around the group, before looking back at the one before him. He took in his look, the color of his skin, his eyes, his dark hair, finding him to be overall interesting to look at, like no mix blood he'd ever seen before. Then again the one that they did know, the one the group took in some time ago, was from far more distant lands. This one, he appeared at least like he hailed from closer by. Something that was affirmed for him when the stranger spoke of how he was heading home to Andile.

He gave a nod and said, "As far as I know the Obans haven't gotten as far as that though I could be wrong. When one moves the way we do, trying to stay ahead of the danger, we tend to miss out a bit when it comes to news." He said, giving a soft sigh when his guest said that he hadn't any useful news, that he had been in mourning, "Ahhh, I see. It seems to be a common emotion at the moment. The war was rough, many lost loved ones. I am sure you will be able to find those sympathetic to your pain that you can talk to. I find talking helps to dull the bite of any pain."

Another among the group, a Shifter with short cropped hair, leaned forward toward their guest and asked, "Are you in much pain? The way you move makes it seems as though you are, I can help if you need? I can't go all out, one of the members of our group is still in rough shape, but I can at least help a little." He offered, not wanting to stretch his powers too thin but couldn't sit by idly any longer.

Within the tent Ril roll from his side and onto his stomach, something that felt like a task in and of itself, scooting forward a little, so that he could peek out through the little crack between the tent door flap and the wall, trying to get a look at who was outside. He could see dark hair and dark skin, it looked familiar... but he decided that surely it wasn't him, right? He hoped not. The idea that 'he' might have had a love of his life bothered him after all even if he had told himself in the past that it was better if he did. Though, if the guy had died maybe it wasn't a good thing? But surely the one out there wasn't him, right? Naw, he was probably miles from here... not that Ril knew where here was.

Yaholo nodded as the leader spoke of the Obans and tried to focus his attention upon that, as difficult as it was. He hoped that the Obans had gotten lost or, better yet, poisoned by Menzuri, which would fill them with hallucinations and screw things up for them. The lack of information about their movements did trouble him, his thoughts dwindling to his children and family for a moment, but he figured that no news meant nothing was really happening, and that that calm before the storm was still going strong.

"Oh, uhm..." He mumbled, his gaze turning towards the shifter. "If you wouldn't mind, I do have quite a mash to my back that hasn't healed right... But if it's too much trouble, I can manage fine with it until I get home."

The man nodded, pushing to his feet, then came to settle down behind Yaholo, getting in the way of Ril's line of sight, making him grumble a bit. How was he ever supposed to figure out what was going on out there if someone sat in front of him like that? No matter, it wasn't as though it were actually the one that he was thinking about right now, right? It was just another guy trying to avoid the warring tribe from the South in the manner that he was doing. A part of him want to throw something at the guy... but knowing who it was, a rather good man, one who had saved his life, he wouldn't actually do so. Besides, if he was offering the stranger help it was probably warranted.

The man lifted his hands, letting them hover above the skin of their guest's back, trying to determine through his magic exactly what it was that he was dealing with. It seemed like quite a bit. There was quite the bruise, which anyone could see, as well what felt like strained muscles and some fractures if he had to guess. It was something that had him giving a bit of a sigh, the look on his face clear to anyone who looked his way.

He moved his hands along, getting a feel for everything, where it was located, and then set about the healing process. He would deal with what he could, aiming for the worst of the injuries, wanting to help their guest but in a manner that didn't strain his powers. He had the whole groups welfare to look after. He couldn't let himself get drained of all of his strength straight away. He had to use his powers in moderation to make sure he was able to take care of everyone who might need him.

While Yaholo was being tended to, Yanenowi, his Sailscale, had gone off on her own to rummage through the campsite. She happyily gobbled up any meat scraps laying about, purused the laundry, if any, and scuttled her way around asif she were checking the perimeter of the camp for trouble. Along her way, her nose picked up on an unfamiliar scent, which she followed straight into the tent where Rilind was laying. She cocked her head at the red-head, sniffed his hair, and flailed out of the entrance again.

"Gwaaaaa!" She cried. "I found a spy, Yaholo! Hurry hurry!"

The hybrid leaned forward to peer at Yanenowi and gave her a stern look.
"Yane, come here!" He called. "There's nothing in there that's for you."

As the strange creature came into the tent, not something that he had been at all suspecting given that he hadn't really been are of her, he couldn't help but to jerk upright. It was one of those things that he regretted instantly as pain burned through his shoulder. A hiss escaped him as he lifted a hand, clutching the wound for a moment before the rest of him seemed to curl inward into the fetal position while he waited for the pain to pass. Damn it but that hurt... not as much as well it first happened, not by any stretch of the imagination, but it still hurt.

Jerking his head up he was able to yell at the creature for being such a bother... but it was already stumbling its way back out of the tent again. He gave the beast the best glare that he could muster, his now green eyes narrowed, before he suddenly found himself starring at an all too familiar face... and it was as though the world had suddenly stopped. He was... he was... here? What was he doing here?! Out in the middle of no where, all alone, injured from the sounds of it. Not to mention that he was apparently in mourning as far as the 'love of his life' went. He felt as if he couldn't breath, arms wrapping more tightly around himself. What was going on? Was this another dream? At this point he couldn't recall how many of his fever dreams involved the big, muscular halfbreed. Many of them... but surely the pain he was feeling meant he was dreaming, right? It meant that Yaholo was actually here.

What should he do? Should he go see him? Talk to him? See how he was...? Or should he avoid him? He wasn't all that good with people, he never had been, but every part of him was screaming that he had to get up, had to go to Yaholo. Even if the other man wanted nothing to do with him, even if he'd moved on, even if he had a love of his life who he was mourning. He didn't even seem aware of it himself, the fact that he was pushing himself to his feet, stumbling over to where Yaholo was sitting, before the red head was wrapping his arms around the big man's neck, face buried against his chest, clinging to him.

The leader of the group blinked a couple times, looking a bit shocked, as did everyone else in the group who had gotten used to Rilind being so quiet and standoffish. The fact that he was suddenly clinging to someone, a stranger at that, it was quite shocking, "Is his fever back?" He asked of the Healer who was instantly checking, one hand coming to rest against Ril's back.

After a moment the man shook his head, "A little warm but not worse then he has been of late. Not feverish, just still a bit warm from all the energy he is burning to heal." He said, turning to look at their guest, "Please, forgive Ril, he has been quite unwell of late." The man said, hoping that Yaholo wouldn't shove him away, afraid that it might reopen some of the worst of Ril's wounds.

Yaholo's focus quickly shifted from Yanenowi and to the red haired man stumbling over to the group. Part of him was stunned at his wounds and the way he was walking and desperately wanted to usher him back to the tent, but as Rilind wrapped his arms around his neck, he felt as though he might be lonely inside the tent and wanting some form of comfort. If that was the case, placing him back in that confined space would be rude, and because this group was offering him a place for the night, he couldn't be rude.

He raised his hand and placed it gently against Rilind's back, giving him a soft pat, before his eyes drifted along the injuries that he had. Dear Aisha, so many scars, old, new, and these knicks to his ears, along with the new wounds... It wasn't until he spotted a bit of blue upon his skin that his heart began to pound. He had his mottled skin, and his scars, and his gems... Could it be? N-no... He was gone, there was a monument that told him so, he couldn't be alive! ...Could he? Tears welled up in his eyes at the possibility, his mind beginning to spin, before he wrapped his arms around Rilind.

"O-Oulix-es... Is that you?" He stammered, his body beginning to shake. "I... Thought you were dead! Everyone told me you died saving that kid! I was absolutely destroyed!" He placed his head gently upon the top of Rilind's and tried to control his sobs. "I've... Been so lost, without you. I missed you so much!"

Ril lifted his head up, his now green eyes opening up to stare up at Yaholo for a moment before he went back to resting against him. The fact that the other seemed to be glad to see him was nice. He felt himself relaxing against the much stronger man, a part of him wanting nothing more then to doze off right there... but he couldn't let that happen. What if this were just some sort of cruel dream? If he were to fall asleep here then he might very wake up for real and miss out on on this. He didn't want him to go! He knew that after as long as he'd run from him, after how many times he'd rejected him, it wasn't really fair of him to want him to stay now, was it? He'd wasted so much time running, letting fear drive him, and even when someone offered to help him he was to messed up to take it. It had only landed him in bigger and bigger trouble, hadn't it?

"I'm... sorry, Yaholo..." He murmured quietly when he felt the way that the bigger man was shaking against him. Was he crying? That wasn't what he wanted... he hadn't meant to make him cry he thought to himself. What he'd said though, that he'd thought he was dead... did that mean that he was still the love of Yaholo's life despite having been absent so long? He really was a strange man, wasn't he? Stupidly attached... and yet he kind of... liked it. He just didn't know how to express the words so instead he just continued to cling.

The rest of the group around them exchanged looks, then one of their leader asked, "Yaholo, is it? I must apologize, when we first found him he was... not in good shape, in fact we nearly lost him on a few occasions, that aside he was asking for you. We couldn't quite make out your name though, his voice was so weak and he was drifting in and out..." That was ages ago, before the war, if they had but known the real name of who Ril was looking for then they could have saved both of them a lot of time and pain. At least the emotional kind, Rilind would have still suffered through what he had thus far regardless.

The healer sat back when it seemed that the pair would rather cling ot each other then receive any more in the way of healing. It would probably help them both though more then any magical medicine could, to have someone their cared about so close. It might be just what Rilind needed. Giving a smile he settled down near to the boss of their group and said, "We always wondered what had gotten him into such rough shape. He wouldn't say, didn't really say much about anything in fact, so we had to patch him up best that we could knowing nothing about the circumstances of his wounds." He gave another smile then, "So you were fighting to protect someone? Interesting." So the guy was a hero, huh? A rather modest sort as well since he hadn't bragged at all about getting hurt protecting another. It made him that much happier that they had been lucky enough to stumble across him the way they had.

Yaholo's eyes were brimming with tears as he clutched Rilind close to his chest. He leaned his head down a bit as the other spoke, though, and responded to his words with a kiss to the top of his head. No, there was no reason to be sorry, not at least one that he could think of. All that mattered was that Ril was alive and here with him, nothing needed forgiving because no wrong had been done. He sniffled a few times, gave Ril another few kisses to his head, and heaved a huge sigh of relief.

"I am eternally grateful to you for finding him and saving his life." He replied. "Oul-Rilind, is my world, and..." He paused, leaning his head upon Rilind's again. "These past few months have been absolute hell without him."

When the healer spoke about how Rilind got injured, Yaholo cracked a smile and nuzzled Rilind.
"Oi, you have a monument and a legend now, you know." He said. "You're a hero for what you did, I'm really proud of you. I was devastated with the news... But I was still so proud about how valiant you were, and I hope you are, too."
PostPosted: Thu Jun 05, 2014 5:32 am

Ril gave a slight shrug at what the others were saying, "It was nothing... he seemed to get in over head a lot... was just trying to help him. Again." It wasn't the first time that the kid had needed his help though the second time was a lot more serious then the first time. There were more of those monsters involved, more of a struggle, more pain... but so long as the boy was alright then that was what mattered. It was a strange feeling, to actually care more about another person's life then his own. For so long all that mattered to him was himself and his desire to keep moving so that nothing would catch up with him and harm him again. To thrown himself headlong into a battle that caused him more pain then his father even came close to doing... well, it went against everything that had been important before.

Leaning more into Yaholo, enjoying the feeling of him so close by, Rilind felt himself starting to nod off. He was still recovering, still aching, still so very tired. He didn't want to move though, not that he exactly felt he could, but instead he just wanted to stay right where he was, nestled in Yaholo's arms, comfortable and safe.

The healer lifted a hand up, clearing his throat, before he said, "Yaholo, if I might offer a suggestion? You should take Rilind back to the tent, help him back to bed. He is still recovering from his injuries, it's a painstaking process but I think having you nearby will help him." At least that was how he felt, Rilind might be more open to healing sessions, not to mention he might rest a little easier. He seemed to contend with a lot of bad dreams which caused thrashing around, something that likely wasn't helping the healing process.

After he gave the currently cuddly pair a once over he was quick to add, "He needs to rest up, so while it's alright for you two to chat and carry on as you are you will need to refrain from anything more arduous, alright?" While he didn't think he had to warn the pair he would do so regardless, just to make sure the pair rested up, "After the two of you rest up I will see about doing another healing session with the two of you." He was sure they could both use it and as the group healer it was up to him to see to it that it was done right.

Yaholo wanted to protest and continue to say that Rilind was a hero and that it wasn't just "nothing", but the fact that he was being so cuddly made him calm down. He must've missed him, he thought, his hand moving up to gently tousle Ril's hair, a thought that sent his heart flutter. Ril missed him and wanted comfort from him... If this was a dream, he prayed that Aisha would never wake him up.

"Oh, of course!" He replied, nodding towards the healer. They were both tired and needed rest, especially Ril, who was the most injured. He lifted Rilind into his arms, stabalized himself as his back gave a twinge, and wandered towards the tent. "Let's get you back to bed, Ril. We'll be better suited to catch up in here anyway."
PostPosted: Mon Jun 09, 2014 6:41 am

Rilind gave a sound of surprise in his throat when Yaholo lifted him up so easily, as if he weighed nothing. There was a part of him that wanted to protest, injured or not he was still a man, he could at least walk as far as the tent! His pride said this but when it came down to it he really didn't know if that were the truth or not. What if he couldn't? Would it be worth it to make a huge protest over the fact that he could in fact walk only to fail if Yaholo actually put him down? It was a difficult spot that he found himself in but after giving it a bit of thought he decided that it was best that he just allow this. He owed Yaholo an awful lot after all, he could never make up for all that he had done in his single minded, selfish quest to try to out run his personal demons.

Turning to look up at Yaholo he starred at him for a long moment then murmured, "Don't think I will let you carry me all over the place like this. I do have at least a bit of my pride let." Even though he was trying to sound grumpy about getting carried it really didn't show in his tone. Hard to be mad when one was actually content for one. Despite all the pain, the fatigue, all of it, he was... happy. It was a strange feeling, one that he didn't indulge in often due to the fact that he feared such feelings to be fleeting and false. He felt that if he put to much stock in them that it would only turn around and bite him in the end. Something he'd felt that he'd right about in the past with a lot of things... just not where Yaholo was concerned. Strangely he was one thing that was consistent in his life even if they had been apart most of the time.

Within the tent that Yaholo was bringing them to was the blankets that he'd been resting on before Yaholo's appearance, as well as that of the Sailscale, had caught his attention, "We can rest there." He murmured, not looking directly at Yaholo as he said so. It just felt odd to give such an invitation after all so he couldn't really look the other man in the face. More things to attempt to get used to he supposed.

Yaholo peered down at Rilind as he murmured and shook his head in response. This had nothing to do with pride, and if that was what Rilind was so worried about, he needed to think about just how hurt he was. Besides, even if Rilind had protested, it wouldn't have made any difference. Yaholo would have scooped him up and snuggled him no matter what.

"There's no shame in getting the help you need, Ril." He replied as he laid Rilind down upon the blankets again. "Admitting that you need something is difficult, I know that for a fact, but there is absolutely no reason for you to feel as though you've lost any pride. Leaning on someone doesn't mean you've become less of a warrior or a man, it's a courageous thing in of itself."

He fussed over the arrangement of the blankets for a moment, ignoring the twinging of his back, and eventually curled up beside Rilind, wrapping his arms gently around him with a contented sigh.

"You being alive is a miracle." He said, nuzzling Ril. "How in the hell did you escape all that destruction?"
