The stray Radaku had become more vicious and Feral over the past few days, especially as its food was starting to rot away. It attacked anybody who came nearby, even when they were on the path yards away beyond the trees, returning always before anybody could clean up the scene.
Not that Jahuar wasn't doing it for them. The Jungle made fast work of all of its dead, and they were swiftly returning to the soil in one manner or another.
But the Radaku had to be dealt with.
Clearly, brute force wasn't going to be the way to deal with it - it was ferocious and fearless and its grief seemed to bolster it in nearly superatural ways. Plus, it was likely to be a painful death for it, and she did not want to give it that. Death, yes, but something kind - kinder perhaps than what its master had been given.
Sometimes, when she was out scouting near the road, she could hear its howls of anguish. It hurt to hear it, because she understood its pain. Loss had hurt for her, and she could only imagine how much worse it would be for someone with that kind of bond - between master and familiar.
She had no new ideas on how to deal with the Radaku, so instead she was guarding a shifter travelling home on that stretch of path. She was silent, as always, not being much of a conversationalist, and so she did not know the shifter's name, or occupation, or anything about them. They were simply a charge to protect, and she was satisfied with that.
She was not surprised when the Radaku growled at them, its eyes gleaming, half insane, from the trunks of the trees that formed the path's corridor. Nor was she surprised when it leaped out at her - it knew her, and it was likely annoyed with her. She fended it off as the Shifter ran for it, flinging it away. She could hear it snarling nearby, and winced at the gashes it had dealt with its claws.
She expected another attack, but it left her there, its paws padding as it went to deal with another thread...
