Erevu grinned excitedly to himself, walking away from Priderock, along a worn down path commonly used by fellow pride members. He had just applied to become a scout; now, just to wait for word from the leaders. Trying to soothe his excitement and anxiety, he pushed away the smile. Perhaps he should visit his family. Maybe. Considering, he put it off; no, he’ll visit if he was approved.
Still, as much as he tried to think worse-case-scenario to prepare himself for disappointment, he couldn’t stop himself from being optimistic. And, in his excitement and thoughts, didn’t bother watching where he was going. Missing the outcropping of a small rock, Erevu only noticed it when his paw stepped on it. Letting out a roar of shock and pain, he quickly tried to hop onto his other paws, ended up tangling his legs, before falling onto his stomach. With a pained groan, he picked himself back up.

Ijuba was spending his afternoon dozing very happily in the sun, having hunted that morning. As far as he was concerned, that was quite enough exertion for one day, and so he felt no shame over lazing about for the rest of it. He was not, strictly speaking, a lazy lion, loathe to do anything at all, but he was rarely inclined to do more than had to be done. If he had to be labeled something, he preferred words more along the lines of 'content' or 'relaxed.' They were much nicer.
Also not so nice were interruptions to naps. Ijuba started awake, legs flailing for a few undignified moments before he rolled over and found his feet, looking for the source of the disturbance.
"...you alright?"

Erevu picked up his front paw, turning it to examine the recently injured underside. As far as he could tell, no damage besides the shock of pain. Still, he rubbed it against the thin patch of grass, attempting to sooth it.
A voice caught his attention and, startled that someone was nearby, maroon eyes flew over to the owner of the voice. Blinking, he nodded absently. Had he seen? And more importantly, had he heard? Ears twitching back a bit in dismay, he lifted his chin higher in an attempt to save some dignity. Erevu’s eyes searched the area around for a moment, looking for just where the lion had come from, not even factoring the possibility that he just wasn’t paying attention. Finally he spoke. ”Um…. yea. Yea, I’m alright. Were you…” he paused, looking passed the lion for a moment in confusion. ”Were you here the whole time?”

"Nn, more or less," the lighter-colored lion answered, slowly looking the other over. Like many Pridelanders, he looked vaguely familiar, probably related to at least one of the big families. All the endless cousins in various degrees, history he'd never paid a great deal of attention. "Didn't see much of it, really, if you're worried. Just heard it. I was sleeping."

Erevu observed him critically for a moment before nodding, relief flooding through him. ”Ah, I see,” he responded lamely, feeling slightly awkward. Glancing away for a moment, he recalled the recent words, before rusty eyes focused on the other lion again. ”Sleeping?” he looked at the ground again before frowning. Had he woke him up? ”Ah… I’m sorry,” he said with a sheepish grin, sitting down.
He suddenly remembered his earlier excitement and, with mood uplifted once more and the embarrassing tumble forgotten, he grinned even wider. ”I’m Erevu,” he greeted excitedly, eyes bright. Straightening up slightly, he waited expectantly for a returned introduction.

"'s fine, I can always sleep more later," Ijuba said with a shrug, truly not perturbed. It had been a bit startling, yes, but nothing ruffled him for very long, and he was already comfortably back in his sedate state of mind. So much so that, as he plopped back on his haunches, he gave a great yawn before speaking again. "I'm Ijuba. Nice to meet you, Erevu."

Erevu nodded slowly, though still not comfortable with the fact he had awoken the other lion with his clumsy action. He usually wasn’t this clumsy; in fact, he particularly trained to improve his carefulness. That was always a desirable trait. Perhaps it had been excitement that had made a muck of his steps.
Ijuba? Erevu smiled simply, with a shrug. He was going to ask just why the male was lying randomly around here but decided against it; there were plenty of others who randomly plopped down where they stood to take a nap or simply rest. And really, Erevu shouldn’t find it strange at all; so why question it. ”Nice to meet you as well,” he responded cordially, eyeing the other curiously.
Suddenly, an idea shot through him, a slow grin slowly spreading across his face. His earlier excitement mounted back up in him. Why not have a pre-celebration? And if the other was planning to sleep later on anyways, it was just perfect! ”I have reason to celebrate,” he began casually, eyes alight. ”So… would you like to go buzzard chasing?”

"Buzzard...chasing?" Ijuba looked and sounded rather befuddled by this suggestion. "What do you celebrate by chasing buzzards?" There was no condescension in his tone, only genuine curiosity. Chasing anything that wasn't food wasn't an activity in which he ever participated. When he'd been a cub, yes, but...now? Nope. He needed his energy for chasing said food, for himself and for others, and his free time for lounging about.

Erevu stared, dumbfounded, before ducking his head in embarrassment. Why would he celebrate it that way? Of course, Erevu didn’t quite mind the childishness of it all… but it being pointed out with utter confusion served to be the perfect humiliation. He cleared his throat, shaking his head, and gave a sheepish grin. ”Ah… y’know what? Probably not. I’m sure you’re… busy,” Erevu hesitated, eyes drifting to the spot where he presumed the other lion had been sleeping.
True, he wanted to still do the activity; an excitement pulsed through him continually and, even with the slight dampener of sense, it wasn’t in the least quelled. ”What do you do for celebration?”

Ijuba was only further confused by the male's response. Why was he embarrassed? Was it something he'd said? He'd only been curious, but had he managed to offend him somehow? "Whoa, um. There's nothing wrong with buzzard-chasing, I didn't mean it that way. Well, the buzzards probably don't like it, I guess, but who cares? They're buzzards."
"I don't have much to celebrate, really. ...I mean, not that I'm sad or anything like that. Just don't do much that merits any fuss."

Erevu blinked, listening as the teal lion backtracked his words, before a grin was pulled onto his face against his will. The lion couldn’t help the slight relief that floated through him as Ijuba contradicted his worries and embarrassment. ”I suppose they don’t,” Erevu agreed, not bothering to linger on the thought. He didn’t hurt the birds nor would he ever. It was like a game of tag just… more one-sided.
His ears twitched at the admission, rusty eyes narrowing in puzzlement. Chasing birds didn’t always go hand in hand with a celebration. Sometimes, it was just fun. And it had been a bit since Erevu last had childish play. ”You don’t need to have something to celebrate,” Erevu pointed out before chewing over the idea again. ”I’ll tell you what… Next time I have a bit of free time, as well as you, let’s go buzzard-chasing. Without any reason to celebrate.” The idea excited him, rusty eyes glinting with anticipation.

The prospect of buzzard-chasing did not excite Ijuba by any means, and he had to think about it for a few moments. While unnecessary activity was not his thing, he was social; he quite enjoyed spending time with his fellow Pridelanders. So...for the sake of making a friend, he would chase some buzzards. "Y'know, sure, why not?"

Erevu grinned at the agreement. Finally. He ignored the nagging feeling that the other may not see things in the same perspective. Rather than getting discouraged by the prospect of Ijuba not enjoying himself, Erevu rather focus on showing him the thrill of it. Nodding his head, he let out a slightly chuckle. ”Alright then. We’ll go buzzard-chasing before the week end. I’ll come and find you when I’m free. Be ready,” he told him cheerfully, earlier’s wariness faded. He glanced up at the sky, closed his eyes momentarily as a light breeze swept through, before turning away from Ijuba. ”I’ll be heading back now. It was nice meeting you. See you again in a few days,” he informed him, before toddling off, away from Pride Rock.
Meepfur Finished. c: Are you up for a rp where they do go buzzard chasing? Or no? I have a bird that could be found in that one by Erevu.
