    The Story Goes...
The orange trees all seem to hit their peak ripeness almost overnight -- sour and sweet and delicious fruit tumbling from branches to litter the ground in a dry area of the swamp. The result is somewhat horrifying, oranges that are going to go to waste, and so an intrepid wanderer sent a notice far and wide:

Harvest the Oranges, take your fill, bring them home to the family, and win a prize for doing it!

She has set up at the outskirts of the grove and grins at every kin that approaches, nodding them inward.

"He or she who collects the most oranges will get a little help to carry them home..."

    Rules
    • To begin with, write a response of how your kin got to the grove, and their reaction to the sea of oranges littering the ground, the wall of oranges still on the branches.
    • To do your harvest, starting in your second post roll 1d4 alongside a response of your kin gathering oranges. This response can be as long or as short as you'd like, each post, but you must write something to go along with your roll.
    • You can roll a maximum of 10 times!

She'd heard the call for aid to collect oranges, and though she was responding to it, she didn't think much of the issue. They were just oranges! How bad could it be?

Ascent nodded her head to the grinning kin that directed her to the field in question and, once cresting the small incline and nosing her way through the low hanging boughs, she came upon a sea of orange. The Kiokote went still, her eyes wide as she beheld what she'd heard of but certainly hadn't dared to believe, overwhelmed by the orange that stretched in every direction. It looked like a sunset had painted this entire part of the land and stuck, a vision of matte orange carpet meeting with the wall of equally orange drapery. That alone was impressive, but the scent -- oh MotherFather, the scent! It was pure heaven! The sweet citrus was overwhelming and thick enough to taste, but Ascent loved it. It was invigorating and only added to her excitement to get started.

Oh, but what sweet gems of orange could she retrieve from this plentiful bounty? There was only one way to find out.

Utterly overwhelmed, Ascent took her time picking through the mountains of oranges. Nosing one rather large one, she gingerly took it between her teeth, shivering a little at the bitter and sweet that mingled on the taste of the rind, and took it back to where she'd first come in. There, she put down the orange, starting her own pile.

Hm. The orange was choice in size, but the work was slow. Ascent returned to the heaping mounds of oranges and nosed together two smaller ones, placing her teeth just so to grab the sides of both. Pleased with her success, she trotted back to the pile, and deposited her prizes.

Finding a bough fallen from the heavy burden of oranges, Ascent plucked it up by its broken shaft and carted it - and the four oranges attached to it - back to her stockpile.

While she was making her way through a pile of oranges, her hooves knocked a few free, sending them tumbling. Stricken by the idea of it, Ascent carefully aimed her hooves and nudged a few oranges. They rolled, colliding with others and sending three more in the vicinity of her pile. Success!

A well placed nudge of her nose and a pile of oranges were scattered. Picking out the two brightest, she added them to her pile.

Oh! That was a large one! Not about to let it get away, Ascent plucked the citrus from the ground - large enough it barely fit in her mouth! - and proudly returned it to her pile.

Picking up a bit of the mess she'd made, she added a few more to her stockpile.

Ascent gathered a few oranges for moving to her pile, but her stomach growled. She'd been tasting the sweet juice every time she held the rind in her teeth and, glancing around, she hardly saw the harm in consuming a few of the brightly colored jewels. The Kiokote indulged in consuming two oranges - rind and all - before daintily picking a third and returning that rind to the floor. It was good for the soil, after all!

With one remaining, she added it to her pile, humming.

Another branch laden with oranges was found. Ascent tried to drag it to her pile, but it snapped, leaving her with a small mouth of twigs that three oranges precariously clung to. It was a worthy prize, one she returned to her pile.

She grew tired of carrying the oranges. It wasn't that they were heavy or even terribly cumbersome, but the constant back and forth, the picking and climbing through the mountains of fruit for just the right one...it was tiresome! Ascent decided she'd take a break and, taking her time, she rolled three more oranges towards her pile, and there she sat, enjoying the scenery and scent heavy on the air.
