He had planned it, thought about it, stood in the checkout line in grocery stores flipping through wedding magazines and checking youtube videos showing different takes on how to go about the big question – but in the end, Ladon decided that he and Billy weren’t like these people. These people probably never were placed in a situation where their lives were at risk, where they had to demand life and death, the vows at the altar, of the other and then see if the other stepped up to the plate. They didn’t risk their lives, fight each day, and see some of the horrors of war on a weekly basis.
Yet they still were these people. They dated. They fought. They both held the same passions and yet knocked skulls – especially recently. He reflected countless times of what he had put Billy through, and felt his stomach twist all the time about the challenges Billy had to face just being with him. Billy might have just picked him up that day for other reasons, but whatever those had been, they had moved a long way since that point where Ladon had received a sweet and unexpected comment from a silver-haired boy that one summer’s day.
Out of all these challenges, Ladon grew to know one thing. Billy was the only person on the planet he cared the most about, and would kill anyone in his way if even a knee was scuffed by the officer. He had been his rock countless times over, and while Ladon knew he could rely on him as both Billy and Bismuthtie, he knew he had a lot of growing up to do to be half the man in order to be there for Billy.
Despite this challenge, he wanted to be there. He didn’t want anyone in the world to take Billy from him, and he didn’t ever want to loose him. They had spent over a year living together, and the moment Paris started talking to him about his own wedding, something moved inside of him.
Why hadn’t he really looked at it this way himself?
After that night, laying on the floor in the bathroom together, Ladon knew he had to do something. Despite all the people and all the factors in his life that were unsure, Billy was the one thing he wanted to cling to. No one would take that from him, but he was going to make if official.
And so, on a cool summer’s day, Wolframite stood at the rooftop of the grand hall, and sent a text to Billy, who he knew wasn’t working, to meet him.
It was time.

Billy got the text as he was in the check out line at the grocery store. It would take a while for him to get there, but eventually he arrived. "Yo," He greeted, sauntering over with confidence and pride in his gait, less fabricated for show as it had been in his earlier years. Once he was in front of Wolfy, he ran his hand through the lieutenant's hair affectionately. "So, what're you up to?" Not that he suspected Wolfy was up to anything, it was just a regular question.

He tried to keep himself from smiling too hard, and he took deep breathes when Billy appeared.
Keep calm. Just pretend this is a patrol at first.
“I need to look into something and really could use the backup. The security guards on duty is already knocked out. I just need to check something inside.” He informed him, hoping Billy wasn’t aware of anything. Considering they had gone to this same building for their Valentine’s dance ages ago, he hoped he wouldn’t be suspicious.
He opened the door where he had propped a brick to leave it open in order to not set off the security alarms, something he couldn’t’ energy strain to keep quiet, and then gestured for Bismuthite to follow inside. He walked down the flights of steps easily enough, glad that being a lieutenant didn’t’ meant he exhausted too easily after going down some steps, before he was sure they were at the right level. It was dark and quiet, and he smiled as he took another deep breath. “It should be this way.” He informed his partner.
He opened the door to the stairs down the hallway, past equipment and personnel rooms, and even a wide room set full of costumes. He made sure just which way to go before he went to the double doors for the ballroom.
Turning, he opened the doors to the dark ballroom,
Dark. Except for a little light.
A small park bench set in the middle of the ballroom. Set around it were little candles on gilded pedestals (all taken from the stockroom of the building) and there were little vases of roses set about it. The colors pink, green, and black.
He took Bismuthite’s hand, and started to lightly lead him towards it, not saying a word. As he did, he shimmered out of his uniform. There were no cameras here to record them. It was safe.

Billy wasn't easy to fool, and he was bright and perceptive enough that he was able to catch on pretty early on that this wasn't just business. When the ballroom door opened, he knew what was going on. He didn't say anything, because he didn't wan't Wolframite, Ladon, to feel the surprise was ruined, so he simply adopted a warm knowing smile as Ladon led him. He was sure if Ladon looked, he'd know that Billy knew, but he wanted him to continue anyway. It was almost the look a teacher gives when they call on the star student - knowing with full confidence and pride exactly what was going to come. Honestly, Billy would have done this himself long ago, but he kept waiting, wanting Ladon to be the one to do it. He wanted it to be Ladon's idea, because he didn't want to feel like he was trapping Ladon, or forcing anything on him. Part of him couldn't help but think 'finally.'Billy would never admit to his own feelings of insecurity, as far as Ladon and their relationship was concerned, but he was always fraid of something taking Ladon away, or Ladon finding something better for him out there. That insecurity was probably why he wanted Ladon to be the one to propose, too. So there was releif there, too.

He wasn’t sure what Billy was thinking, but he hoped it was confusion. He wanted this to be a surprise, and hoped it was surprising so far. He wanted this to be perfect. Something that, if anyone ever asked, they would have a story. Something that, if they thought about it late at night years later, they could smile.
He brought Billy to the café bench and turned Billy and gestured to let him sit down. He hoped he remembered the bench. He hoped he remembered that time. Their anniversary of when they actually spoke past their first encounter. Turning, he reached into his pocket and fished out a stereo remote. He turned it on, and in the faint distance, a stereo played the ballroom song they danced to softly in the distance. It echoed in the wide expanse of the ballroom.
It was hard to recall much at the moment, but he tried to work through his own jittery nerves to recall the speech he had memorized. Weeks of countlessly rehearsing on top of numerous rooftops while in uniform, muttering it under his breath while walking the streets. Now was the time to make it perfect.
“It’s been over 3 years since we first met, when I crossed paths with you standing on the side of the road selling your art. Back then, I was just suspicious of who you were and the beautiful monsters that were part of a select world. I knew there was something different about you, and I wanted to know more. But it wasn’t until you came to me, sat at my table, right at this very café bench, that you made me feel special. You called me a gem, and from the start, you made me feel important and precious than any other person had that I have ever met. From that point on, you have always made me feel that way, and I wanted nothing more to do the same for you. You have gone with me and helped me when I was figuring out who I was and helped me every step of the way.”
He gripped his hands, smiling at him as his heart quickened as he thought about their long journey together. “We went through hard times. Times I’m ashamed to admit were caused a lot by me, but you were there. We have fought together, and you were the one to bring us back – here at the very ballroom. I was lost, and you were the one to rescue me, and help me when I was as worse as the monsters you painted. You went against me when I did things you didn’t like, and I regretted every moment that I might lose you forever. Through all those trials, I knew more and more that I never wanted to let you go. That there would never be anyone who would go that extra mile for me, and I knew there was no one in the world, in the universe, that I wanted to prove myself deserving of that more than you.”
“I’ve never been good at love. I always believed it, but when I was growing up, I never thought I deserved it. I never thought I’d really meet that person. I hoped, but I didn’t think I’d find it. Back then, I didn’t know what it even meant. I never knew how it could be tested, and am glad that I don’t ever have to lie by only giving half of myself to you through who we are and what we work towards.”
His hands slipped from Billy’s as he lowered himself to one knee. “I know they say that starseeds come back time and time again, and if there was a way to tether you to mine for all eternity, I would find it. All I can do it know that wherever we are in the future, in all the lives, that I will be the luckiest man to find you in any lifetime. The only one I can control now, is this one.”
“Billy Roadinger, through all the trials and battles of love and the world may throw at us, I want to lay down my life and my love for you. I want to be there for whatever may come, and if I can prove that I deserve even a fraction of your love, then I can say I’ve lived a happy life.”
He brought out a velvet box, and opened it. “For this, I vow myself to you. For all that you are and all I wish to share with you from here into forever, I wish we stay, starseed, soul, and heart, together.”
“Billy. Bismuthite. Will you marry me?” He opened the case, showing a strange ring. It shimmering in the twinkling candlelight, a strange purple crystal chiseled into a ring with a set, lighter purple heart at the center.

BIlly waited patiently through the speech, then at the presentation of the ring be barely spared a glance when one hand covered the opened box and the other cupped Ladon's cheek. "You don't have to ask me - you know you're all that I live for. You know I'd die just to hold you, because you are my night sky. I've always been right behind you, and I'll always be right beside you." Okay, one - long answer for a long proposal, and two - Billy wasn't going to say that he got his reply from a song. Like, ever. Because normally he was pretty good at being wordy, but he'd never really expected Ladon's proposal to be well...like this. Thorough. Well, at least Ladon had ommitted the fact that the whole reason Billy originally asked him out in the first place was for a little a**... Sooo, maybe not that thorough. But yeah. Yeah. Ummm.... Now what?

Ladon beamed as a smile stretched from ear to ear. He was sure Billy would say yes, but there was always the decimal percentage that worried that Billy might have a reason to say now. With the recent battle with the DMC, he had outright went against Billy’s wishes, and he wondered if he had pushed his boyfriend too far to the point he was now reconsidering a life with him.
He was beyond relieved to find this was not the say, and that despite hardships, this was another one Billy was either overlooking or working past.
Right now, he couldn’t think properly to dive too deep on what it was. What mattered was that, in his own way, Billy said yes. Taking the ring from the case, Ladon took Billy’s hand. “No matter where we go and what happens, I want you to know I’m there for you.” He slid the ring onto Billy’s finger easily before he reached into his pocket and brought out his own. It matched, a set of Rift Crystals etched into two rings. He had worked hard traversing the dark landscape to find the most beautiful set of crystal he could find. And for good reason – it wasn’t the only thing he had spent time working on. He’d have to thank a hard-working Nega Mau later.
He brought Billy’s hand to his lips, and then took the other to set it against his own heart. Then, bending down, he kissed the ring. A small light started to shine on the heart crystal, a steady if not fast tempo of purple light that matched in sync with Ladon’s own heartbeat. “That with your won lips, this is the only thing that will ever beat for you.”

"You've spent a great deal of time on this," Billy said, then smiled a bit "But I'd rather these lips touch yours."
Billy kissed Ladon, then gestured for him to join him back on the bench, certain that the hard floor was not at all comfortable.
Billy was impressed with all the thought and time Ladon had put in to this, and he supposed it was worth him putting off proposing over and over. Mmm, indeed it was. Even if he did feel slightly awkward. Billy wasn't used to not knowing what to do next, and right now his brain was drawing blanks.

He got up, slowly, and sat next to Billy. The music was still playing, and he brought out the remote to turn it off. Quiet now, he looked over at Billy and then at the ring on his own finger. He was tempted to kiss it just to see if Billy's heart was hammering as quickly as his was.
"I...wasn't sure what type of wedding you wanted. I guess that's something we have to talk about together." He managed, but really felt like now that things were official, it was rather startling. After the wedding, they would be officially together. No boyfriend business anymore. Husbands.
He swallowed and looked back at Billy, and for that moment, all he wanted to do was -
He leaned in and kissed him.

"Well, we've still got to find a house, and even after we find one, it could take a month or more to close on it, and get all that squared away, get finances in order... So there is plenty of time to plan. No rushing, or anything." Maybe by the end of summer, when the weather starts to cool down. Maybe if they got a nice enough place, they could have it there and save on venue costs... It wasn't like they really knew many people to invite anyway, just Ladon's friends and whatever family, so a nice home-y thing might be nice. One step at a time. Right now, there was a kiss to tend to.

He smiled as he kissed back, and then wrapped his arms around his fiance (boy that sounded nice) before whispering in his ear. "I love you."

"Hn," Billy looked at Ladon with a sultry, half-lidded expression and whispered back, warm breath and velvety voice purring in Ladon's ear, "Should I take you right here, or in our bed?" Points for Billy - he was doing well at controlling his hedonistic tendencies, but right now, there was something to celebrate, and just what was Billy's idea of celebration? Well, of course it was sex. ...and it had been some time. Weeks.... ...Since at least sometime before their squabble over Ladon's failed plan! So maybe Billy would have taken any reason.... No. No, this was special. .....Unless Ladon had any other plans. In which case Billy would willingly endure without qualm. ....but he sincerely doubted it.

He smiled and then looked to the side, arms still wrapped around Billy as he let a few fingers play with the scruff of hair at the back of his neck. "I..." He glanced around and then back at Billy before looking back down. "I did knock out security for a while." He whispered, and then leaned to press his face against Billy's shoulder, his ears going red as he more or less said yes.
It was a time to celebrate after all.
