((This RP is between Sabishii Namae and Rhaegar Targaryen))

Sabishii needed a break. He was tired of the mazoku. He was tired of Rezo and his cryptic but urgent missions. He was tired of Xelloss, who was all smiles full of teeth. He was especially tired of Zenoskelis, the stallion that wasn't really his boyfriend but wasn't exactly anything else either. He was tired of trying to figure out what everyone expected of him and tired of trying to navigate the confusing and sometimes dangerous internal politics of the mazoku clan. He had the impression that there were things going on just behind the scenes where he couldn't see them. He had no idea what, but it was big and people were tense. Of course they didn't tell him. He wasn't a true member, just a servant.

Fighting the temptation to mutter to himself, he stalked along the well-worn pathway. He just needed to get away for a while and then would be able to handle it all again. That's all he needed, just a couple hours of vacation. He-

... Was that singing? He paused and squinted around, trying to pinpoint where the sound might be coming from. It did sound like singing, and like a soquili was the one doing it. Who could it be? Certainly none of the mazoku knew how to make music like that.

Rhaegar sang to himself as he walked. It was a song he had brought with from his homeland, one about two lovers kept apart by faith and family. He had never sang this song before while on Kawani soil and he found the idea haunting that this might be the first and possibly last time it was heard in such a place. While other soquili might sing to make themselves happy, Rhaegar only had heart for the sad or longing songs now. Any joy he had was lost with the death of his wife and children. His voice took that sorrow and processed it into beautiful melody. He did not sing to lift his heart, he sang to express the sorrow that was within it.

He walked through the jungle that day, a place and climate that he had little experience with. It really was quite lovely how the sun filtered through the many layers of leaves and set the place alight in a soft green glow. He could appreciate the beauty in that.

The singing was growing closer. Sabishii knew that t he intelligent response would be to avoid whoever the singer was. He didn't want to have to explain who he was or what sort of herd lived in these parts. That had always been what he'd done before, leaving stray soquili to their fate... but at irritated sigh cut through those thoughts. He had to warn whoever this singing idiot was that he was about to walk straight into kalona territory.

Stomping forward, he came into sight of the one who had been singing. A kalona crossbreed? He hadn't expected that.

Rhaegar's song cut off mid-note. He wasn't alone. He found himself looking at another stallion, a gray-toned regular with a blue mane and an aggravated expression. Had he been bothering him with his music? Rhaegar blinked slowly before greeting the stranger.

"I apologize if I disturbed you," he said. "My name is Rhaegar Targaryen and I mean you no harm." He had learned long ago that his kalona heritage could provoke a fearful response in some Kawani natives. Given the history of that breed in this place, he wasn't offended. He had just learned to announce his intentions swiftly.

That was an awfully fancy name. Sabishii eyed the stranger with obvious incredulity. He wandered around in kalona territory singing. Strange. He apparently had kalona blood himself, which made the singing even stranger. Finally, not only was he a singing kalona, but he wore the most intricate armor that Sabishii had ever seen. He looked like a warrior but wandered around singing like some idiot yearling poet. And he felt the need to assure Sabishii that he meant no harm? The stranger was the one in danger here, not him!

"You shouldn't be here, you know." Sabishii didn't feel the need to supply Rhaegar with his own name. He wasn't aiming to make friends here. Blinking again, he took a closer look at the armor. It did look solid. Maybe this fellow was a warrior as well as a songbird. Maybe he didn't even need a warning and would keep on singing even while the mazoku attacked.

Though Rhaegar was used to a rather wide variety of responses to his presence, he wasn't sure that he liked how this stallion was responding to him. The stallion stared at him with frank and utter disdain, forceful enough to make Rhaegar wonder if he somehow had some sort of reputation in the area. Could they have possibly heard of his father, the Mad King Aerys? Was this stallion about to call him the son of a skinwalker or one of the other insults thrown at him by the Usurper and his vile forces?

"I apologize again, then," said Rhaegar. "For trespassing." Distracted, he suddenly noticed features that he had previously assumed were markings around the stallion's ankles. Were those bloody slashes there? They certainly looked like it, but the stallion wasn't out of breath as one might be after an attack.

"You should really stop apologizing and start leaving," said Sabishii coarsely, not really caring if he offended this foppish Rhaegar character. "Don't you know where you are? The jungle isn't a safe place for outsiders." He was absolutely certain that Rhaegar was an outsider, because no local would be stupid enough to come this way.

"Even if you don't get killed by the kalona, there's a real grump of an angeni that lives way beyond on the other side of the great river. Even if you don't run into either, there are jaguars, giant snakes, alligators, and more biting bugs than you can shake your tail at."

Rhaegar's expression grew troubled. He had known of the natural dangers of this habitat, of course. His education as a foal had covered what sort of fauna he might encounter in a variety of habitats. It was the news of hostile kalona and angeni that was surprising to him.

He thought of the days of his youth. Back then, if he had heard of a situation like this he might have gathered his guards to gallop out to meet and drive out the dangerous characters. Those were the days when he still had been able to make a difference in the world. Now, he could only shake his head with dismay when he heard of such things. He didn't have the power to change large things anymore, just small ones. "I greatly appreciate the warning," he said with sincerity. "Might you tell me where these kalonas and angeni are located so that I can avoid them?"

This one apparently couldn't take a hint. He wasn't looking to strike up an intellectual conversation with Rhaegar about where the enemies where... he wanted him to just pack up and leave. Turn tail. Get out while he still could. Sabishii rolled his eyes a little and prepared a speech when he suddenly paused. His ears swiveled to catch the sounds that were unmistakably of someone approaching.

"Hell!" He hissed sharply and looked around. "That might be them." It would strain credulity to think that there could be anyone other than them and mazoku out here. "We're going to need to hide, all right?" He spotted a grove of tall shrubs that looked dense enough to shelter two stallions. "There! Go there!" He jabbed towards the spot with his nose, giving Rhaegar a small push against the flank to drive home the point. They needed to move and move fast!

Rhaegar's own ears pricked up when he saw the expression of his companion change. He could also hear the distant sound of hooves. It didn't seem like it could possibly be that many soquili. Probably two, perhaps three at the very most. Still, from the way that Sabishii reacted, it might as well have been a whole herd.

He didn't immediately move when Sabishii pushed against him. He stared into the sound of the approaching others with a slightly morbid sort of curiosity. He didn't think he could fight three seasoned kalona warriors, but perhaps two. It sounded like he'd be doing the inhabitants of this land a favor if he was able to defeat the monsters.

"I do not fear them," he said absently, more for his own sake than for Sabishii's. Still, he didn't move, eyes trained on the sound of approaching enemies.

"Damn you!" Sabishii's blood boiled with aggravation. Here he was, putting his own neck on the line for a stranger, and the idiot didn't even seem to notice. If Sabishii wanted to be smart, he'd shout and bring the kalonas on over. That'd be a nice show of loyalty, wouldn't it? He didn't know why he'd even bothered to try to help this moron in the first place, but for some reason he felt like keeping on doing it.

"Get your tail behind those plants or I swear I'll bite it off!" That was the sort of thing that he'd often heard the other mazoku snarling to him or each other.

That statement was enough to startle Rhaegar out of his reverie. He snorted in disapproving surprise at being addressed in that manner, though he immediately realized why Sabishii had spoken so. He was putting his companion at danger by not following his instructions. He might be able to risk his own life for a cause, but to drag in an unwilling participant was pure selfishness.

Without a word, he turned and hurried to the hiding spot. His armor clinked as he went, but there was little he could do about that. It was a tough squeeze to get past some of the branches, but he managed to squirm through. He hoped that the approaching kalonas would find the location similarly impenetrable if it came down to a fight.

They made it into their hiding place just in time... or so Sabishii hoped. The idiot armored soquili had made much more noise than he would have liked and moved much more slowly too. Sabishii wondered if the armor might be baking his innards and turning him stupid or something.

Sabishii knew that it would be safer to not even let his eyes be visible, but he looked anyways. He wanted to know which mazoku were around. Also, if they were about to get spotted, he hoped he would at least get some warning this way. As the sounds grew closer, he caught himself holding his breath. Exasperated at himself, he forced himself to draw more steady inhalations. Lots of things were breathing in the jungle. Even if they somehow heard his, it wouldn't draw too much attention.

Squinting, he was able to finally make out the figures. It was Tythoss and one of his siblings. Bad luck there. All of the mazoku were cruel in some sort of way, but Tythoss could be even worse than some of the others.

Rhaegar did his best to remain perfectly still. He was well aware of how noisy his armor was at even minor movements. The clinking of his chain mail wasn't so bad when he was just walking along, but if silence was what it took to save their lives, even small sounds could be dangerous.

He didn't have an excellent view of the ones approaching, but could make out some features. They looked like kalonas, and rather large ones at that. One of them looked like he had strange and small wings, perhaps stunted. Rhaegar was a little surprised to see that. He had somewhat assumed that the most vicious of kalonas would slay any child seen to be born with a defect. There were many questions that he wanted to ask Sabishii, but those could wait.

Sabishii was grateful that Rhaegar seemed to be holding his silence relatively well. He had been worried that he might have to tackle him to keep him from rushing out to try to attack Tythoss and the others, but that didn't seem to be the case. As Tythoss grew close, Sabishii's ears pricked up to try to catch fragments of their conversation.

Something about a kidnapping. That wasn't too surprising, he supposed. Kidnapping had always seemed to be a favorite game of the mazoku.
