Aminah had heard about a strange plant that was found creeping up in the Sauti mountains. It was said to be able to cure ailments that usually killed their victims before they could even be diagnosed by healers. One of the healers in the village had come to Aminah, one of her first visitors since the fire that wiped out her garden, and had asked her to get it. It seemed too good to be true to Aminah, but she wasn't the kind of person to turn down someone in need. She would just feel much too awful if she didn't accept his request and then someone from her own village needed the medicine.
She had packed her bags days ago and then dropped them off again with an inn in town before she walked the trails into the mountains. All she had to go on was a vague description, and she wasn't too familiar with Sauti plants, but it would have to work. From what she understood, the plant crept up the mountainside and clung to the rock, turning the rock behind it a yellow tint, making everything it grew on look like gold. It was hard to believe, but it wasn't Aminah's place to judge until she had seen for herself.
She was coming across a fork in the trail, one side leading steeply up the mountain and the other winding beyond her sight when she heard it. Something clicked from behind, like a rock chipping down the mountain face, but it had Aminah’s ears perking. She turned around slowly, knowing that there were dangerous things in the mountain that Aminah had never seen or been up against before. And she was right. There were two creatures behind her, looking like something she had overheard others whispering about on her previous travels through Sauti. They were sermals. From what she had heard, they were fierce, and Aminah reached behind her to pull her staff from its place on her belt slowly.
The two cat-like things stalked down the side of the mountain, their limbs moving fluidly and their eyes following Aminah as they seemed to stalk her. One gave out a low growling sound, a warning for Aminah to lay down and die she thought. It would be something they would like: an easy meal. Aminah had no intentions to give it to them.
She furrowed her brow and pulled her staff in front of her, readying her magic. She scooped her staff upward through the air, sending a blast of wind at the two sermals. One was caught in the gust and was lifted off the ground before falling and tumbling the rest of the way down the mountain. It seemed to be unconscious by the time it was at Aminah's feet. She backed away, readying herself for the next wave if the other sermal couldn't take the hint. It managed to avoid the brunt of the wind blast, but it continued to tread down the mountain and toward Aminah. It bared it’s fangs and let out a howling screech before pouncing the rest of the way down the mountain and before it could do any damage Aminah whipped a blast of air its way and took off down the winding road and away from the other sermal.
