User ImageIf there's one word that describes Elliot, it is lazy, and so his mother and father have assigned the task of running their festival booth to him. Although they hope that the temporary job will bestow their son with a greater sense of responsibility, Elliot is...not taking his task particularly seriously.

On the contrary, not only is he not making much of an active attempt to draw in customers to purchase his mother's beautifully arranged floral centerpieces, but he has a bad habit of also giving things away for free. His mother has left with him a box of small, flower-shaped, beaded trinkets--rings, hairpins, simple necklaces, and so on--to give away as bonuses to paying customers who purchase one of her larger and more pricy creations. Elliot, however, finds it far more fit to hand them out to those who he sees fit: namely, anyone who happens to temporarily dispel his boredom and keep him entertained, even if only for a few minutes.

Hey, free stuff is free stuff, right? Why not give it a go?

To play, roll a 10-sided die. Match your number to the prompt, and RP it out! If you're lucky, maybe Elliot will actually be awake and paying attention so that you'll manage to grab some free goodies! Otherwise...well...maybe it'd be best to leave and try again later?

If you want to enter the raffle for the Tailor Ticket, all you have to do is roll and answer one prompt and I'll add you to the list! Your RP post doesn't have to be long either--just write however much you're comfortable with, whether just a couple of lines or a paragraph or two. If you're interested in getting additional raffle tickets, read on!

Quote:
  1. Although you try to catch his attention, Elliot does not seem to notice you, too caught up staring off into space.

  2. You try to make conversation, but he just lets out an uninterested grunt.

  3. Something about you seems to have caught his eye, as he visibly perks up and calls out to you, asking if he can help you find anything or if you're just browsing. After a bit of conversing, he thanks you for keeping him company and hands you one of the freebie trinkets.

  4. Elliot is far too engrossed in the book that he snuck past his parents' hawk-eyed surveillance to pay any attention to you or the other customers.

  5. Something from the booth catches your eye, but when you turn to talk to the teenager manning it, you realize that he's sleeping very soundly. Roll one 4-sided die--if even, you wake him up and he offers you a freebie as an apology. If odd, he continues snoozing away.

  6. As you walk by, Elliot suddenly waves you down and gestures for you to approach, lazily drawling that you're the 123th person to walk by the booth (apparently he's so bored that he's been counting) and that you've won something.

  7. All you see from this stall is a mother and father scolding their teenage son for slacking off. Maybe you'd best wait until they leave before you check this booth out...

  8. Elliot abruptly asks you to tell him a joke or a funny story, offering to give you a prize if it makes him laugh. Roll one 100-sided die--if 60 or above, you succeed and he gives you something. If below 60, you simply receive a blank stare in response.

  9. ...There's no one at the booth but a cat and a sign that reads, "Out for a quick snack run. Direct all questions to the cat". At least...it seems as if he packed up and brought his mother's wares with him so that they wouldn't be stolen? Aside from the note and the fuzzy feline, there is nothing else at this booth at present.

  10. You hear a low groan from the peach-haired boy who is laying face down on the surface of the booth. When he realizes that you're there, he pleads for you to save him from his boredom, if only for a little while. If you choose to give in at his sheer desperation and spare him a few minutes of your time, he thanks you by offering you one of the free accessories.

One Tailor Ticket will be given out at this booth at the end of the event! Each person who RPs in the thread (by rolling/responding to one prompt) automatically gets added to the raffle list! Additional raffle tickets can be claimed by watching my avatar, which will swap between two different ones throughout the duration of the event.

If Elliot is reading (or really, if my avatar is some random thing), you can swing by and talk to him, but he's probably too caught up in his book to pay attention to you. If he's actually working though (probably after getting a scolding from his parents for slacking off!), drop by to chat with him for a bit, and you'll get an extra raffle ticket! I'll be switching between the two a number of times throughout the event, and you'll get an extra raffle ticket for each time you come back (when my avatar is the "Working Elliot") and do a bit of RP with me!

Please quote me if/when you manage to catch Elliot working (for once) and want to RP for an extra ticket!

*also mildly letting Elliot say things because Kai said he would buahaha ]]

Sebastian Schneider didn't care for flowers one bit, and probably would have walked right past the floral booth if he... something didn't catch the corner of his eye.

"HEY YOU, JACKASS." or if he didn't get yelled at.

Really, one should be offended by the language, but Bas simply shrugged his shoulders, turned on his heel, and slunk up to the booth in question. His eyes locked on with the booth's tender, a heavy silence falling between the two young men.

"Y'know, you're the 123rd person to walk by the booth today..."

"And you're the last person I'd expect to be suckered into it," Bas drawled with a lazy smile, leaning against the booth with both elbows resting on the wood, and his own chin laying in the palm of his hands. He gave Elliot a doe-eyed look for a few moments, "Did your parents sucker you into it? No, no, let me guess! Yes, yes they did."

Given the expression on his friend's face, he was assuming that was the case. Hah, and look at Bas! He was here actually enjoying the festivities while his 'bff' was stuck trying to sell flowers. Sure, it was the family business, but damn that had to be humiliating. "So should I just circle around again so I can be your 124th too? Wait here, I'll be right back," and Bas walked away, disappearing into the crowd for a few minutes.

He hoped Elliot enjoyed the fact that he was humoring him! ...and he may have gotten distracted by a candy booth on his way as well.

Bas may have made it back to the booth a little later than he had expected. Elliot told him he was number 128 now, which meant Bas had missed his goal, and more horrifyingly - was this booth popular!? The young man teased a sucker he had gotten from another booth between his teeth, not really sucking on it more than noisily clanking it against his teeth.

Perhaps Elliot was so eager to see him again because he had begun to believe that his friend really had ditched him. Bas would apologize later for the distress, but for a few good minutes he poked through some of the floral arrangements and lamented with his friend over the misfortune Elliot must be suffering through to have to run such a girly booth. C'mon, half the flowers were a pretty pink, and it didn't help matters when Elliot's hair was a pretty pink shade as well. Sure, it was toned down, but it was undeniably pink.

Bas leaned forward to fix one of the flower arrangements for his friend, since well, Elliot seemed to be trying to sneak in a few pages of whatever book he was reading. But, when he leaned forward to do just that Elliot, with an ungodly speed bestowed upon him by some flower nymphs or something, slipped a blue flower clip into hair and called him a pretty princess.

"...Thanks," Bas replied in a deadpan voice, and begrudgingly moved aside as another actual customer came to the booth.

Bas was about to make a grand escape before the masses of young women flocked to the booth for some flowers, but just as he was going to take his leave he heard his friend groaning is dismay. Bas made the grave error of looking back over his shoulder, light blue eyes narrowing at Elliot as the other young man slumped against the booth and hid his head in his arms. Sigh. Elliot was renowned for being lazy... and so was Bas. He really didn't want to come to his friend's rescue, but the bro code was calling... and you never left a bro behind. That was especially true when said bro was pulling off the abandoned puppy look.

His fingers dipped into his dark blue hair, and he massaged his scalp in preparation for the headache that was soon to come. Then, Bas swung his legs over the booth and hopped over to the other side to join his friend for a few minutes in tending to the masses. "You owe me, and free flowers don't count --"

Bas frowned as another flower clip was slipped into his hair. "I was thinking, like, a cherry pie or something." The real question, however, was why was Bas keeping these pins in his hair!? He was going to amount a considerable collection at this rate. The answer, however, was simple. Bas couldn't be bothered to pull them out. That, and he was already forgetting about them.

While he wasn't openly going to admit it, Elliot was honestly pretty damn thankful for his friend's presence. Truth to be told, the boy didn't even like to attend festivals in the first place, so having to man a booth during one was pretty much his idea of hell. It was just...all this noise, and all these people...! It would have been one thing if the flowers were a flop and no one came to check them out--at least then he could read his book in peace--but no, apparently people actually liked flowers.

A flower booth at a festival, and people were actually dropping by. Go figure.

"I will give you the biggest cherry pie I can find," Elliot promised once Bas had (in an act of being the best bro ever) joined him behind the booth, "...And possibly more if you decide to drop by more often to help." It was...a not so subtle attempt at bribery, but it wasn't like the boy had any shame when it came to asking Bas for favours--they had been friends for long enough that they were way past formalities.

He opened his mouth to say something else then when one of the girls who had been surveying the flower arrangements suddenly spoke up, catching his attention. Despite wanting nothing more than to ignore her and slack off, Elliot let out a sigh as he stood up and faced the girl, brows lifting expectantly.

She asked a few questions about the flowers--the usual stuff, really--but then things got a little weird as she began to diverge on a more personal line of questioning. Things like the fact that his parents owned this store, and oh he must have been helping out, and you know he had really nice hair...

He could see where this was going.

Elliot really had not subtlety about him. There were about a hundred different ways his friend could approach him over seeking more help with running his booth. But, then again, being outright desperate worked too. Bas arched a brow at his friend, staring at him hard for a few moments before slowly replying, "...how many cherry pies are we talkin', here?" Were they... going to haggle at the booth over cherry pies? Quite possibly, they were. Bas reached a hand up into his dark blue hair, fixing one of the flowery pins because damn, if he was going to wear them, he was going to look good doing so.

Before they could really get down to business, a new wave of customers came up, and while Elliot was a terrible salesman... Bas was, well, actually, he was pretty crappy at this too. "Uh, five dollars sound good?" he didn't sound very convinced on the price, but ended up leaning over the booth and putting a flower wreath over a young girl's head. He took the money from her, and then turned a questioning look to his friend. "Hey, do I get a cut of the profits?" Clearly his manly charm was what was bringing in all the new customers...

Except one was paying a painful amount of attention to Elliot, and even began to probe into his personal life. Instead of coming to Elliot's rescue, however, Bas leaned back and smirked. "And he's single!" Bas chimed in, waggling his brows playfully at the girl. All subtle attempts from the girl to get Elliot's interest were thrown out the window as well, Bas came right out and tried his best to make the situation as awkward and uncomfortable for his bestie as possible.

...Scratch what he was thinking before about Bas being a good friend--in reality, he was clearly a terrible friend considering the fact that he wasn't making any effort in helping bail him out from this awkward situation. Blunt as he was, Elliot didn't make a habit of hurting others (besides Bas) and was felt entirely awkward at rejecting someone outright...so he did what came to mind first.

"Yes, I'm single...for now," The boy piped up, his bored, half-lidded eyes sliding to his friend as he clapped a hand on his shoulder, "You see, we recently broke up--he cheated on me--" Yes Bas, you were the bad guy here, "--But I'm hoping that we will one day be able to repair things between us."

It was pretty clear that he was lying through his teeth--try as he might, Elliot was never a very good actor, what with that bland expression and tone of his--but the customer seemed to accept it at once. In fact, she seemed to support it, gushing something or the other about how she was so sorry, and how they looked lovely together. She left after buying a small floral centerpiece.

As Elliot counted the money in his hands, his gaze casually slid over to the other boy, speaking as if nothing had just happened.

"I'm paying you either in cherry pies, or the money equal to how much cherry pies cost. You get one an hour."

Bas stared Elliot down, trying to suppress his shock that his friend was going there (again, he might add). Sure, Elliot was a terrible actor, but some people were bound to fall for the little ploy. In that moment, he had two things he could do, deny it or accept it. Sighing rather loudly, the young man rolled his eyes and stared despondently at the ground. "It's only because you never put out! I have physical needs too, you know!" he grumbled, though it was certainly loud enough for the girl to hear.

He liked to think it was one of the reasons the girl was so quick to buy what she wanted and get on her way. There was no way anyone would like to overhear a lover's quarrel, unless she was into the idea of two men being together... Oh, god, he hoped they didn't start something with this. "You're an a**," he piped up after she had left, "but an irresistible one," he added with a dramatic arch of his brow and a sly wink.

His friend seemed to try to move on with his life by bringing up what was a ridiculous wage system. "You're kidding, right? That's not even minimum, and I'm doing good, honest work here!" A young boy passed by, and Bas graciously bestowed upon him a handful of pins. "I'm helping you out here when I could be enjoying the festival, and this is how you're going to repay me?" Bas even sounded betrayed! Clearly, he was a far better actor than his friend.

In the end, who was he to complain how that encounter had turned out? He had managed not to hurt the girl's feelings, she had backed off, and she had even bought something from them. Tucking the money away in the cash box, Elliot's lips pulled into a lop-sided smile at his friend's words.

Yes, he was most definitely an a**...but only to Bas, really.

"I'm pretty sure the minimum is half a cherry pie per hour, and I'm offering you a whole one," He protested, saying nothing about the fact that his friend had just passed off a bunch of pins to some random little boy, "And hey, don't give me that. You know that I'm not made out of money either, Bas."

At the very least, the Lindstrom family was well off--enough so to make a decent living--but they were a farcry from the rich families within Wall Sina. Still, Elliot did have to admit that the other boy was spending his free time here instead of enjoying himself at the festival, and...goddamnit. As hard as he tried to have a will as unshakeable as that bland expression of his, Elliot really was a soft-hearted pushover when it really came down to it.

"...One and a half pies an hour."

"I wonder what I'll do with all the cherry pies I'm going to earn..." Bas dreamily whispered. He knew he was incapable of eating a bountiful amount of pies, and that they would spoil in a couple of days. He'd need to conjure up some creative ways to handle the clearly amazing load he was going to pull in. It was the most effort his brain had been put through all week, and after a few moments he decided anyways that he'd figure it out when the time came. First, he had to earn them... and that meant bumming around with Elliot for a few hours, which was good and well when it didn't actually require effort.

They had a very easy, laid back friendship.

"Deal!" Bas announced quickly, before Elliot could change his mind. He really would have settled for one pie per hour, but it was always sweet to get a better deal. His expression immediately brightened, and he clapped Elliot on the back before doing some semblance of work. In reality, Bas had no idea how to run a booth, or even how flowers should be priced. He was pretty sure these things popped up everywhere, so why were people paying to buy them when they could pick and arrange flowers themselves?

Oh, because that took effort. Bas suddenly understood the business a great deal more. "Oh s**t, is that your mom over there?" Bas was already preemptively sinking down to hide underneath the booth. Elliot's mom was nice, but obviously she would put two and two together. If Bas was here, clearly Elliot wasn't working, and he'd be shooed away before he could earn any pies at all. "Is she actually... running surveillance on you?" He was rather concerned for his friend now. Man, Elliot had it rough.

Sigh. Well, he supposed he could count himself lucky to have a friend as lazy relaxed as he was, not to mention one who was willing to take cherry pies as payment for helping out. With the deal made, it was incredibly tempting for Elliot to just sink into his chair and relax while Bas did all the work, but even he wouldn't do that to the other boy.

...Besides, he didn't trust Bas to run the booth alone.

Grabbing a scrap of paper, he had been on the verge of writing out a list of what each specific floral piece was priced at so that his new coworker would have some sort of reference when Bas' words suddenly caused him to freeze. Chills running up his spine, Elliot's head snapped up, his eyes immediately scanning the crowd until he found the figure who was being referred to.

"Yes. Yes, that is my mom, and she's coming this way." Aw crap, this was not good. Although Bas had already begun to duck, Elliot decided to speed up this process by forcibly shoving his head down, eyes nervously focused on the woman who was making her way towards the booth. Scrambling to make sure that his friend was out of sight while simultaneously making it look like he was actually doing something, he smoothed out his expression and attempted to look as casual as possible.

"Oh. Hey, mom," He drawled, busily "fixing" some of the centerpieces by uselessly fluffing the flowers, "Come to check up on me?"

[4. Elliot is far too engrossed in the book that he snuck past his parents' hawk-eyed surveillance to pay any attention to you or the other customers. ]

Preacher liked pretty things, she genuinely did. It was just that, in her life, the pretty things never belonged to her. She wandered the booths aimlessly, the small bit of money in her pouch heavy and aching to be spent. A booth caught her eye. Flowers, dozens of them, spilled out of the booth. The bright colors made Preacher a little dizzy, but she stepped closer.

Like Thumbelina, a boy was nestled among the flowers. His hair blended right in; perhaps he'd been working here long enough that he had begun to become a blossom. Preacher open3d her mouth to speak, but noticed his surly expression. The boy huffed and turned a page. There would be getting no words out of him. Perhaps she should come back later....
