It was a simple day.
Slow steady rain had been falling all morning and there was the smallest bit of light peeking out from behind thick clouds. For Orpheus, this wasn’t a bad day at all and he preferred days like this where he could enjoy a nice calming rain. He had been traveling recently so he didn’t do much stopping and the little bit he did do it was mainly for sleep. He was happy to be getting out a lot more. Being cooped up with family was nice, but it could only go so far and he wanted to see the world that he was deprived of when he was a colt.
Curling his long tail around his back leg, he walked through the damp forest feeling soft drops fall onto his back. It was soothing and he could hear the birds chirping above him. He always liked that sound. They were so free and could go anywhere they wanted to. Sometimes he found himself feeling a little envious of them, but he would never change who he was. He had spent a lot of time trying to figure himself out when he was a colt. A lot of time accepting himself with how different he was and not beating himself down for it. He had grown a lot and he was still slowly maturing into a really good stallion.
“Life is so simply isn’t it?” He said softly to a songbird on one of the branches above him. He was always talking to birds even though they couldn’t respond back to him. When it fluttered away, he continued on stepping out of the forest and into the open plains. The rain still steadily beating down with cracks of thunder every so often and lightening lighting up the dark sky. It was a pretty sight to him, but to anyone else it was morbid or horrid. He was strange. He knew this. Though he always felt that was the first thing anyone ever saw when it came to him. He didn’t need to prove anything to anyone and he wasn’t going to. If they didn’t liked him because of appearances sake, then they weren’t worth his time.
Stopping only a few feet from the edge of the forest, the stallion looked down at the remains of a small animal. He couldn’t make out what it was, probably a mouse or a chipmunk. He didn’t frown or look sad. He simply lowered his head and took its skull in his mouth very gently. He placed it in his pouch for later. He was going to make something out of it in remembrance to the animal.
He owed it to that animal since no one else was going to remember it.

Anchovy, played by Ryuukishin (Teepee) A roll of thunder rumbled amongst the clouds, their tell-tale boom hushed by the distance between earth and sky. Many a creature scurried away to avoid the worst of the rain, leaving only the occasional chirps to fill the forest. Earth turned to mud, stones were made slick and hazardous, and even the very colors seemed to melt off from the world. I used to hate the rain, Anchovy thought as the waters ran over her. But that was before the fire.
Her fathers met their end in a forest much like this one, surrounded on all sides by a ring of flame that cut off their escape. She had hoped one, at least, would have been able to fly away, but when she’d returned to examine the area, she’d found two blackened forms lying side-by-side. They had loved each other. It didn't take a genius to figure out what had happened.
Staysa had saved her, then, using her unicorn powers to turn charred flesh to blisters and blisters to fur, so that only a faint pinkish tinge marked the areas where she had once been so thoroughly burned. Soon those, too, would fade. No mark would be left behind of the event that had transpired – nothing to note the panic that had filled her when the trees were set aflame; the pain of being scorched and being healed, as destroyed nerve endings were brought back to life; the desolation of losing her parents.
The rain grew into a steady drum upon her back as she stepped out of the forest. The cool drops were a comfort, yet numbing, too, in their repetition. It was getting harder to think, to feel. She could see a soquili up ahead, but past noting the similarities of his black and white pelt to her deceased father’s, she didn’t think much of him. Whereas once she would have rushed up to any potential friend, she now lowered herself onto the ground, letting the mud soothe what remained of her burns, and wishing it could console her heart, too.XxXPandamoniumXxX ((Thanks for your patience! Flicking his ears up, the stallion paused his movements at the sound of something else in the area. Though it was hard to tell if it was from the lingering thunder or the rain. He looked around for anything noticeable and when he didn’t catch sight of anything, he lowered his head back down at the deceased animal remains. He took what he could then gave the land another look over trying to see if there was anything he could see or anything that really caught his interest. Then he saw something, which was what he probably heard before, a Soquili or creature submersed in mud. Was it in trouble? Did it need some help? He would never let another creature die when his presence was around. He would do all he could to try to save them until it was deemed completely impossible.
With a sway of his long tail, he wandered over being a little cautious just in case the other lashed out at him for being a little too curious. When he approached, he noticed it was a mare and then noticed the marks on her body. They looked painful and an unpleasant thing to have. Now he understood why she was in the mud. She was cooling those wounds, which only meant they were burns. Now he was curious as to how she received such marks. “Hello.” He said gently putting his curiosity behind him for the moment as he moved a little closer to get a better look of the mare. She was so small and a part of him felt over joyed at finally meeting an usidia unless he was mistaken. She could be a foal for all he knew. “Are you okay? Those wounds must be painful. Though the mud should help.” He had the most soft-spoken gentle voice and you could just tell he wasn’t there to harm anyone. He might look creepy or scary, but he was always looking to help others.
He placed his hoof in the soft soil before hearing another loud boom of thunder above them. The clouds were beginning to get dark again and he could smell rain in the air. “I know this isn’t my place since I’m a stranger to you, but..where did you acquire such burns?” Another boom sounded in the sky before a crash of lightening lit up the ever-darkening clouds. He gave her a curious look as if expecting her to tell him, but if she chose not to it wasn’t his place to pry.
“Forgive my manners..My name is Orpheus, but you can call me whatever you would like.” His gentle non-threatening tone lit up the air around them and he smiled slightly. A rare occurrence for him since he didn’t want to stretch or break what remaining skin he had on his jaw line. “What is your name?” He asked curling his long tail around one of his back legs. Ryuukishin Sorry about the wait ;~; But yes I would like to RP over AIM. I mean I'm faster with those responses then guild. I don't know why either. Though I am on at night most of the time since I work mornings unless it's my day off.

(( It has been continued over AIM ))
The only indication that Anchovy had heard was in the twitch of her ears. For a moment, it seemed as if that would be the extent of the conversation. Then, her eyes lifted, slowly, to meet his.
“Hello.”
If she was surprised to see the tufts of bone showing along his hoof and face, or the unusually thick tail that moved fluidly behind him, she didn’t show it. Indeed, she acted as if she didn’t see much at all; her gaze returned to the earth with such casual disinterest that some might have mistaken the action for contempt if her glazed, unfocused eyes, didn’t say otherwise.
They’re gone. My fathers. My baby brother and sister.
Her ears twitched again, and she realized the stallion was speaking. She stirred, straining to hear past the patter of the rain and the pounding in her head. She could hear the pounding of hooves, her name being called, the crack of dying wood falling and the smell of burning flesh. It was only when the stallion smiled that her mind cleared enough to hear him. She struggled to lift her head.
“Anchovy. My name is Anchovy... m’sorry, I didn’t hear the rest?”

Hearing her saddening words only made the larger stallion feel as though he had to help her. He knew that she was an adult and capable of helping herself, but he had been there before. Maybe not to the full extent since he did have his father there most of the time. His mother, sister, and brother were gone from his lives through his childhood and recently he had only connected with two of them. His sister would probably be lost to him forever since his mother and brother didn’t have a clue as to where she was. This fact always saddened him so much.
“Gone? Did they pass away, are you lost or did they abandon you?” He asked in a gentle tone of voice. He wasn’t trying to make her upset or avoid conversation with him. He simply wanted to know what was going on with her. She looked troubled or at least in some kind of troubling relationship with someone.
“It’s alright. I said nothing of importance.” He spoke softly not bothering to fret over things that didn’t matter. He watched her lift her head and simply stared. His mouth not moving to make a smile or a frown. He remained placid as he watched her struggling form. Everything about her seemed like it was a struggle. “You look weak..do you want me to help you to a proper resting place?” He was now at her side unable to turn away and abandon this helpless mare. He lowered himself as much as he could so that he was nearly on the ground beside her.
“I don’t know if you have the strength, but if you climb on my back I could provide you with a means of travel. It might not be comfortable, but it would at least give you some kind of rest.” If she denied this action, then he would simply have to try something else. He wasn’t about to give up that easily.

“No,” Anchovy shook her head, her mouth set into a grim line. Her words came slowly, as if it were a pain to speak, but grew strength as she continued. “They would never leave me. They were...they were killed!”
She looked more lucid than ever, and her eyes flashed – first towards him and then their surroundings, as if she might catch sight of the red-coated mare that had done this to her and her family. She rushed onto her feet, but too soon: her legs shook, and she sank back onto her knees, her eyes growing dull once more. If the stallion had looked closely, he would have noticed the faint tinge of healing burns coated her legs and belly as well.
“Thanks,” she said, breathing hard as a result of her recent exertion. She felt dizzy; she blinked hard, trying to recall herself. Lux wasn’t here – the rain was enough to let her know the mare would be long gone. “But I’m fine. I’ve got to go, as soon as I can.”
She had planned to leave it at just that, but... he’d been so kind. She didn’t want to appear uncivil. “What about you? You’re getting all wet.” She had left the shelter of the forest to ease her burns; he evidently didn’t need the same treatment, and he’d gotten himself all muddy, too. She dipped her head in silent gratitude.

He was taken back by her words, but he didn’t show it. He remained looking the same. Staring at her with an unwavering expression that didn’t show one bit of emotion. “I am sorry to hear that your family has passed.” He simply stated not wanting to say anything else that might upset her. She didn’t seem too upset talking about it, but then again she could be hiding it or it happened a long time ago.
“Your welcome and I can understand. You have your own things to do. But if you ever need help of any kind the offer is still there.” He wouldn’t push her to do something she didn’t want to do. He wasn’t that kind of stallion. “Though why are you in such a rush?” Once again, if she avoid the question he would leave it at that. He wasn’t trying to make an enemy here. As he examined her more closely, he noticed the burns as well as the ones healing. It pained him to see something so horrible on someone as small as her. Even if she wasn’t delicate it wasn’t really something he wanted to see on anyone. It looked so painful.
“Me? Don’t worry about me. I am part kelpi, so I enjoy the water. Any form of it really helps my dry skin. It gets that way if I don’t get it wet from time to time.” He said in another gentle tone as he raised himself up off the ground again. “If the storm does get worse then I will have to find shelter. If you don’t like the rain, maybe I can help you find a shelter or I could be a shelter for you?” He was rather large compared to her so he could easily stand over her and barely any rain would hit her. “If not then I’m fine with simply talking to you. I don’t want to be too pushy.” he nodded looking around for a moment.

“I have to find her.” The mare that burned her home to the ground had frequented Anchovy’s mind so often that she almost forgot the stranger likely had no notion of who she was referring to. “Lux. A red mare, with scales like my pa – a kirin – and hooves like a kalona. They called her a—a ‘suti, I think. The elemental folk. An’ she has spots all over. Do you recognize her?”
She was rambling, she knew, but it was getting hard to focus. A wave of vertigo hit her, and she rested her head against the nearest support: his side. She grunted; swallowed hard. “Ung. Maybe I do need help.”
The water that had felt so cool and numbing before now felt slick. She’d started shivering, too, and it was likely a result of cold as much as exhaustion. And – she didn’t say this out loud, of course – but they smelled like wet horses lying in mud. Which they were.
“You’re not. Pushy, that is.” She groped to keep track of their conversation. “What kinda shelter did you have in mind? And part kelpi, you say?”

“She doesn’t sound familiar to me.” He was being honest because he really didn’t know this mare. He wondered why she needed to find her, but he wasn’t going to pry it out of her. When he felt her head against his side, he looked over seeing that she was rather weak and exhausted. He needed to find a way to help her that didn’t cause her too much movement. “You should rest here then. If anything you should sink into the mud and regain some energy for a little while.” He nodded gently nosing the hair from her face since the rain decided to soak it so badly it was latching onto her.
He felt the shiver and wondered if there was some subtle way he could keep her warm at least until the rain stopped. “I try not to be. There is no need to rush with anything. There is all the time in the world.” He sighed lightly when he realized there was nothing he could do to warm her up. In a way, it aggravated him to realize this.
“Either a cave or possibly a small thicket if I could find one. Your shivering so I know your cold and if you stay out in this kind of weather any longer your going to end up getting sick. I can’t keep you warm as much as I would want to. I’m too big and cumbersome for that.” He was always so honest with everything. He looked away from her feeling the rain continue to run down his already damp coat. “Yes part kelpi. Even though you can’t tell, I’m also part wind and a lot of other breeds mixed in.” He remembered his mother telling him about them one day, but he couldn’t remember them all. He knew kalona was one of them, but anything else he was clueless.
“So what do you say about that shelter?” He turned his head to gaze upon her once more.

Anchovy nodded; she was pretty sure she and the mud had become attached at the hip already anyway. She didn’t question it when he moved her hair out of her eyes; her father, Mest, had often done the same, and the motion was familiar to her. She leaned into his touch.
“Hnn,” she replied, not disagreeing with the stallion, but not agreeing either. Lux was not purebred and she lacked the wings most ‘suti had, but her steps were still much longer than Anchovy’s, and there were a myriad of places she could have gone. The longer Anchovy waited, the harder it would be to find her. But, exhausted and as light-headed as she was, she was not delirious. She knew she couldn’t go like this.
“A cave sounds grand. I dunno the area, so you’ll have to lead, if that’s all right.” She rose, tottered a few steps, and sat back down. She recalled his previous offer, but didn’t want to burden him with carrying her or dealing with the mud she’d leave all over his back.
“Just—” she made a heroic effort to keep the panting out of her words. “Just let me know when we’re gonna start.”

The large stallion kept his eyes on the little mare unsure if he should begin leading her or not. She didn't look like she would be able to make it very far so he knew it would be a lot of stopping and then moving again, which he didn't mind at all. "I'm ready to start moving, but if you for any reason need to rest let me know." He said in a gentle tone as he helped her out of her predicament as best as he could. Carrying her would have been a lot easier, but he wasn't going to push the issue. He didn't want to end up with a angry mini mare on his hands. He gave her a small gentle nudge before slowly walking forward to lead her. She looked so tired and so beat up that he was pretty sure she didn't understand kindness very well. If others were kind to her, she probably thought he was strange especially with how he looked.
"The rain will help wash off that mud and cool you off." He told her looking back a few times to make sure everything was okay. The last thing he wanted to do was see her fall over or fall behind. "I know your not the talkative type or at least that is what it seems to be from my perspective, but..are you sure your okay with this journey? It's not close and I wouldn't mind carrying you." He was always the helpful stallion just like his father. He didn't like seeing others in pain or suffering. "Your running from someone by the looks of it. Lux right? If that is the case then getting to safety quickly is probably better." He nodded stopping to look back at her.
He didn't know why he was so fixed on helping her. Maybe it was because he could see how much pain she was in, both physically and mentally.
